SHIELDS, JAMES, SR.
(August 24, 1937 - May 8, 2012)

Mr. James Shields was born August 24, 1937 to the late Sterling and Sydonia 
Shields in Sorrell, LA. He attended public school in Port Arthur, TX and 
Jeanerette, LA. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Morton 
Salt Company after 39 years of service.

In December, 1957 he married Ms. Janell Alex of Weeks Island, Louisiana and to 
this union four children were born.

On Tuesday, May 8, 2012, in Port Arthur, Texas, he answered the call of his 
Heavenly Father ending his struggle with illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mrs. Janell Shields; one 
son, James Shields, Jr., one sister, Shirley Sims, three brothers, Earnest Sr., 
Sterling Jr. and George Shields.

Those who remain to cherish his memories are his two daughters Patricia Smith 
(Henry) of New Iberia, LA and Sheila Shields of Palm Bay, Florida; one son, 
Kenneth Shields (Keisha) of Bossier City, LA; four grandchildren, Kentrell 
Loston, Jermaine Shields, Ashley Shields, Kyra Shields; 2 great-grandchildren, 
Grayson Jones and Ryley Rountree; daughters of the heart, Marquita Manuel, 
Valerie Bowie (Troy), Anita Drexler; two devoted sisters, Mrs. Viola Rhine 
(Clarence) of Jeanerette, LA and Mrs. Margie Mitchell (Robert) of Port Arthur, 
TX; two brothers, Millie Shield of Port Arthur and Edward Shields (Sherry) of 
Houston, TX; three brothers-in-law, Leroy Sims and Carlton Alex of Houston, TX 
and Horace Alex of New Iberia, LA; one sister-in-law, Florida Mae Londo of New 
Iberia, LA; a dear and devoted niece, Cheryl Wilson of Houston, TX; and a host 
of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Jones 
Funeral Home in Jeanerette, LA with a viewing from 9 a.m. until service time. 
Burial will follow in Sorrell Community Cemetery 

under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur, TX and Jones 
Funeral Home in Jeanerette, LA.
