He was born March 28, 1955, in Atlanta, Ga., to Charlie Johnny Smith and Mena Claire Brown Smith. Visitation will be held at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home of Coushatta today, Friday, June 8, 2012, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Liberty Baptist Church with Bro. Harry Bamburg officiating and Bro. James Hester assisting. Interment will follow in Liberty Baptist Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Rae Presson Smith; one daughter, Ashlie Michelle Smith; his two grandchildren, Brock David Keith and Riley Gage Keith; three sisters, Cindy Brown Smith McLaren and husband Phillip, Lisa Charlene Smith-Shaw and partner Lori, and Jonna Claire Smith Dupree and husband Greg; and one brother, Charlie Johnny Smith. Extended family includes numerous nieces and nephews, Justin David Keith and the Keith/ Layfield family, and the congregation of Liberty Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandparents, John Tedder, Eva Smith, Walter Malone, and Eula Lee Brown. Steve and Cindy were married April 29, 1978, in Morgan City and later moved to Coushatta to raise their family. Not only was Steve a wonderful husband, but he also took pride in watching his little girl grow up on horseback to becoming a beautiful mother of two boys. He will be remembered greatly for his love for God, his family, and the outdoors. From his Nebraska buddies to his wife, daughter, and grandchildren, his unconditional love will be missed. Pallbearers will be Phillip McLaren, Charlie Smith, Justin Keith, Terrel Hester, Colt Dupree and Roy Paige. Honorary pallbearers will be Olan Thomas, Jerry Lane Hester and Kiley T. Phillips.
