Maria was born Oct. 18, 1927, in Roloffseck, East Prussia, the daughter of Ferdinand J. Schmeling and Wilhelmine Lech Schmeling. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sons, Thomas J. Collins and James J. Collins; two daughters, Karen C. Marin and Lynn C. Theriot; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven step- great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand J. Schmeling and Wilhelmine Lech; her husband, Albert “Buddy” Collins; and two brothers, Alfred Schmeling and Johannes Schmeling. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, July 28, 2012, from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Maria will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
