Rita, the third child of 14 children was born April 30, 1930 to the late Louis and Leola Lockette in Ashton, and a long time native of Four Corners (St. Mary Parish). She left Louisiana and moved to Salinas, California in 1957 to live with her sister, Dorothy Prevost. Rita married Fermin August and from that union she was blessed with three children, Diane and Theopholis (Manzy) and Vinger who passed shortly after birth. She later married Murray Jones in 1960. Beautiful and cherished memories will forever linger in the lives of her husband, Willie Cooper; son, Theopholis (Manzy) of Galveston, Texas; grandson, Roy Roger Parker and wife, Francis Parker, of Phoenix, Arizona; great grandchildren she adored, Marcus, Jordan and Naima Parker; stepdaughter, DeAudrian Cooper; mother-in-law, Doris Cooper; sisters-in-law, Denice and Yolanda Cooper; brothers-in-law, Otis Cooper and Anthony Crockette; godchildren, Alexander Prevost Jr. and Larry Casimere; sisters, Dorothy Prevost of Oakland, California, Elizabeth (Milton) Joseph, Savannah Bing, both of Jeanerette, Eldonia Charles of Franklin and Evelyn Rhodes of Houston, Texas; brothers, Louis (Minister Lillie Mae) Lockett Jr. of Jeanerette, Raymond Lockette of Charenton and Lionel (Arlene) Lockette of Four Corners; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends; and loyal friends, Sister Peaches, Sister Linda and Sister Jane. Preceding her in death were daughters, Diane Parker and Vinger August; and sisters Ruby Sweat and Rose Casimere. Evangelist Rita had joined her husband at Vision Hope Church under the leadership of Pastor Bob Jackson. She was a selfless servant of the Lord and we are saddened by her passing but firmly believe she rests peacefully in the hands of the One whom she spoke so highly of and served so well. ===================
