Johnnie was born in Red River County, Texas, the youngest of six children, to John H. and Virgie Mae (Hicks) Compton. She was voted “Most Beautiful” in high school. She graduated from Avery High School in 1952. Johnnie married Robert L. McDaniels on September 24, 1952 and later moved to Dallas. She worked for Mutual of Omaha before giving birth to Michael in 1961 and John in 1963. She was a devoted mother and wife until her divorce in 1980, leaving her a single parent. She was a very loyal mother and friend, sacrificing her own needs to help others. One of the most joyous times in her life was becoming a grandmother, or “Papa,” to Robert Dale McDaniels in June 1989. She retired from the Iron Workers Apprentice program in 1999. One would often find Johnnie manicuring her yard and tending to the many beautiful flowers, trees, and bushes she planted. Her passion for gardening provided enjoyment for her until her declining health prevented it. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Virgie Mae (Hicks) Compton, her brothers, Tom Compton, Willis “Dump” Compton, Joe Compton; and her beloved sister, Sara Oleta Compton. She is survived by her sister, Mary Presley of Franklin; her youngest son, John McDaniels and wife, Sherry, of Mesquite, Texas; oldest son, Michael McDaniels and wife, Cheryl, of Arlington, Texas; grandson, Robert McDaniels and wife, Rachel, of Waxahachie, Texas; longtime friend and companion, Evan Swinford, of Rowlett, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. ===================
