She was 63 years of age and a longtime resident of Morgan City. She was born on Nov. 8, 1948, in Havana. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Miguel; her loving and devoted son, Roberto; her adoring sister, Elia Lusk; her loving brother, Luis Mateu; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Mateu and Celestina Marcelina Mateu; and her son, Ricky Martinez. Mirta always wore a beautiful smile on her face and had a positive uplifting outlook on life. Mirta was a gift of amazing strength and courage, and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her love for her family was the motivation and drive in her courageous battle against cancer. Mirta will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and wide circle of friends, whom supported her throughout her life and illness. Her family will be forever grateful for the support Mirta and her family received. Mirta took great comfort in the support given by the friends who loved her. The family requests that visitation be observed Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home. Visitation will continue Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, beginning at 8 a.m. until the time of dismissal at Hargrave Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be observed Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City with graveside services following in the Morgan City Cemetery. ===================
