Visiting hours will be observed Wednesday, November 28, at Ibert’s Mortuary from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Thursday at 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Dupre was born April 9, 1928 and died Monday, November 26, 2012, at her home. She was 84 years old. She was a lifelong resident of the Franklin area and graduated from Franklin High School in 1945. Marie also graduated from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She and Merlin Mark Dupre married November 20, 1949, and then put her career on hold to raise her family. She joined the working world in 1979 with St. Mary Parish Health Unit and later with St. Mary Parish School Board as a School Nurse. Marie enjoyed traveling with her husband, Merlin, and family throughout the country. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and in her later years, quilting with her sisters, Reba and Leatrice. She is survived by her children: four daughters, Elaine Dupre Granger and her husband, Kenneth G. Granger Sr., of Youngsville; Becky Dupre Landry and her husband, Glenn F. Landry Sr. of Franklin; Donna Dupre Miller and her husband, Michael C. Miller, of Charenton; and Patti L. Dupre of Lafayette; five sons, Merlin M. Dupre Jr. and his wife, Kitty Pannell Dupre, of Brenham, Texas; Wayne M. Dupre and his wife, Donna Charpentier Dupre, of Charenton; Timothy L. Dupre and his companion, Celeste Gauthier, of Franklin; Gary P. Dupre of Jeanerette; and Thomas J. Dupre and his companion, Mona Sedatol, of Franklin; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one sister, Leatrice Chauvin Hanson. Mrs. Dupre was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin M. Dupre Sr.; one daughter, Susan Lynn Dupre; one grandson, Glenn F. Landry Jr.; her parents, Joseph Pastor and Celina Rodriguez Chauvin; seven brothers, Preston, Henry, Elwood, Jess, Manly, Herman and Bobby Chauvin; and two sisters, Malvina Chauvin Broussard and Reba Chauvin Hebert. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Heart of Hospice, 201 W. Vermillion Street, Lafayette, Louisiana 70506.
