She was a resident of Berwick and a native of Morgan City. She was married to Clayton “Buster” Canty, who was the love of her life. They resided together in Berwick with their beautiful blue chihuahua, Isabella Catherine. She was a tribal member of the United Houma Nation. She loved music and dancing. If the band was playing, she was surely there to dance the night away. She shared her love of music by teaching dance lessons for five years. She was also a nurse’s aide at Lakewood Hospital for many years. Shirley was the best in her kitchen, where she made delicious Cajun delights for all of us to enjoy. She was a former president of the Berwick Housing Authority Resident Council. She is survived by her husband, Clayton “Buster” Canty Sr.; her daughter, Gwendolyn Tucker and her husband, Jerry; two sons, Michael Boudreaux Jr. of Basile and Jude Boudreaux of Berwick; one stepson, Clayton “Clay” Canty and his wife, Dottie, of Morgan City; and one stepdaughter, Christine Canty of New Iberia. She had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Florence Breaux of Berwick and Eva Dell Tabor of Amelia; and one brother Jerry LaCoste Sr. of Amelia. She had one godchild, Brandon Aucoin of New Iberia, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her “Momma,” Mary Billiot LaCoste and her “Daddy,” Richard Hilton LaCoste Sr.; her mother, Leola Elliott; her brother, Richard Hilton LaCoste Jr.; and her sisters, Louise Leblanc of Morgan City and Martha Bergeron of Amelia. Also preceding her in death were her niece, Darlene White and her nephew, Seth Charpentier. ===================
