Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2013/sm1303.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, March 22, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Assumption for Mr. Alton Lawrence Broussard, Sr., 78, a native of New Iberia and a longtime resident of Franklin, who passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at 7:05 AM at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will officiate the services. Alton was the owner of Franklin Janitorial Service and a retired employee of the St. Mary Parish School Board where he served as a bus driver for 28 years. He was a veteran of the United States Armed forces as an Army National Guard, and a reserve of the United States Army. He was a member of the Franklin Lions Club, and a lifetime member of the Franklin Elks Lodge #1387, the Opelousas Elks Lodge # 1048, and the St. Mary Parish Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Krewe of Teche, and the King's 12th Knight Club, a member of the Franklin Golden Age Club, and the St. Mary Parish AARP Chapter # 4435. In his earlier life, he was a member of the United States Army National Guard softball team, and had the pleasure of driving the Hanson Football team throughout its State football championship years. Alton was a very devout Catholic, and a member of the Church of the Assumption in Franklin. His favorite hobby was to make wooden yard decorations for various holidays for his family and neighborhood kids. He enjoyed every moment decorating the yard with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going camping with family and friends. He was an avid LSU football and baseball fan, and a New Orleans Saints fan. He was a wonderful husband to his wife, EmmaDel for 57 years, and a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. His memory will be treasured. Alton leaves behind his wife, EmmaDel Luke Broussard of Franklin; five children, Hope B. Uze' (Jerry) of Franklin, Faith B. Ownby (Mark) of Fairview, TN, Alton "Buffa" Broussard, Jr. (Faith) of Verdunville, Jeffrey A. Broussard (Katherine) of Centerville, and Mark L. Broussard of Franklin; one brother Larry Broussard (Barbara) of Franklin; one sister Judy B. Dantin of Franklin; twelve grandchildren, Blaine Uze' (Ashley) of Harrisburg, IL, Antoinette Uze' (Michael McIntyre), and Chantelle Uze' of Franklin, Heather Pickering of Baton Rouge, Jeffrey Broussard, Jr. of St. Martinville, Bailey Broussard of Centerville, Seth Broussard, Alee Broussard, and Logan Broussard of Verdunville, Luke Ownby and William Ownby of Fairview, TN, and Duncan Broussard of Franklin; six great grandchildren, Kayla McIntyre, Kylee McIntyre, Charity Maturin, Adrian Uze', Landin Uze', and Aubrey Uze'; two step-grandchildren, Jadin Stricklin and Kaden Pickering; one brother-in-law, Antoine "Bozo" Luke (Margie) of Franklin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Baudry Broussard; and his father, Adrian Broussard. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday at Ibert's Mortuary from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 7:30 PM, and will continue Friday at the Church of the Assumption from 9:00 AM until Mass time at 11:00 AM. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeffrey Broussard, Seth Broussard, Luke Ownby, William Ownby, Logan Broussard, Duncan Broussard, and Michael McIntyre.
