Born at home on Sixth Street in Morgan City on Dec. 17, 1920, Mr. Dewey
Brupbacher Walsh died at his home on Second Street with his wife at his
side, March, 4, 2013. 
He was 92 years old. 

Mr. Walsh was the second sonof David Connel Walsh Sr., and Julia Cecelia 
Brupbacher Walsh, both of Morgan City. Pre-deceased by his parents and his 
older brother, David Connel Walsh Jr., he is survived by his wife, Astrid Von 
den Brincken Walsh.

Mr. Walsh was a businessman who worked in commercial and residential
real estate, a job he learned from his father. One of his first jobs was
at the Ford dealership and garage in Morgan City owned by D.C. Walsh Sr.
For many years he maintained numerous rental houses in the Morgan City
area, and until his death, he remained president of the D.C. Walsh Co.
Inc., a family business.

A graduate of Morgan City High School, he received a Bachelor of Science
degree in Agriculture in 1942 from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now
the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. His interest in botany was
manifest by his beautiful garden, which was of primary importance to him
throughout his life. He grew numerous vegetables in his backyard each
spring. Friends and family eagerly anticipated his home-grown tomatoes.
For years he nurtured an antique rose which he grafted from a bush in
his grandmother, Ozia Trosclair Brupbacher's, yard on Second Street.

After college, Mr. Walsh joined the U.S. Coast Guard in which he proudly
served during World War II.

A dutiful son and nephew, he took loving care of his mother who was
widowed in 1962 and his two aunts, Violet Brupbacher Hannaford, a widow,
and Mabel Brupbacher, a retired math teacher, until their deaths in the
1960s. In his mid-forties he met his future wife, Astrid Von den
Brincken, a native of Latvia, through friends in New Orleans. After a
beautiful courtship, they married in April of 1967.

He was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he served in
various capacities over the years, from sexton, which his duties
included wiping the pews, mopping the floors and carrying wood and coal
for the potbellied stove, to superintendent of the Sunday School. He
held a soft spot in his heart for young children and small animals.

In addition to his wife, Astrid, he is survived by three nieces and a
nephew, Allison Walsh Trosclair and Catherine Walsh Colvin, both of
Austin, Texas, their children and grandchildren; and his niece and
nephew by marriage, Karen Anderson of Lafayette and Tom Anderson of
Vail, Colo..

The funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Morgan
City at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013. Family and friends are welcome
to come to the wake which will be held in the sanctuary beginning at 10
a.m. 

Burial will take place at the Morgan City Cemetery immediately
following the service.

Rather than flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Trinity
Episcopal Church or to the charity of one's choice.
