Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2013/sm1304.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Teche Baptist Church in Centerville for Mr. John Wylie "Johnny" Blood, Sr., 88, a native of Long Pine, LA and resident of Centerville for the past 57 years, who passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013, at 11:52 PM at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Burial will follow in the Teche Gardens Cemetery. Rev. Lyndon Marcotte will officiate the services. Mr. John was a decorated World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater. He served as a Sergeant (T4) having his Expert Marksman Qualification. He fought in the Southern Philippines Liberation at Luzon and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, and the Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan). He was one of the first workers for Columbian Chemicals, helping build the plant. He retired at the age of 58 as Maintenance Foreman after 32 years of dedicated service. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing since the age of five. Following retirement, he continued to enjoy hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a loving and devoted husband and a proud father and family man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Alma Bass Blood of Centerville; four sons, Charles W. Blood and his wife Cassandra of Pineville, John W. Blood, Jr. and his wife Dinah of Youngsville, Herschel Glenn Blood and his wife Brenda of Centerville, and Ricky L. Blood and his wife Bridget of Centerville; thirteen grandchildren, Jeremy C. Blood, Jennifer B. Johns, and Lauren B. Michel, and their mother, Judith C. Blood, Scott Paul Blood, Danielle B. Marcotte, Jonathon D. Blood, and Christina B. Wiley, Brandon M. Blood, Angelle E. Blood, and Zachary Blood, and Cody Bergeron, Brandon Darden, and Jessica B. Hebert; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence and Mack Blood; and three sisters, Doris B. Franks, Janelle B. Hoyt, and Margie B. Bellanger. Mr. John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Franklin Blood and Julia Carpenter Blood; five brothers, Carl, Otis, Oby, Earl, and Jesse Blood; and three sisters, Edith Vidrine, Mary Canella, and Genevia Caniff. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, and again on Wednesday at Teche Baptist Church in Centerville from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Blood, John Blood, Jr., Glenn Blood, Ricky Blood, Scott Blood, and Brandon Blood. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Blood, Zachary Blood, Steve Franks, Lee Peltier, and Bobby Judice.
