Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2013/sm1307.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Sylvia Ruffin Wilson, age 78, a native and a resident of Morgan City, La., died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Teche Regional Medical Center at 12:08 PM. Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2013 at Mt. Esther Baptist Church from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will be Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Siracusa Recreation Center from 9:00 AM until funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Morgan City Mausoleum. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes' and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4 Sis Sylvia R. Wilson born in Morgan City, La., on September 27, 1934 to the late Arthur (Booze) Ruffin and Julia Watson-Ruffin. Sylvia, Ma Syl, Nannie Mama was educated at Morgan City Colored High School graduating in 1952. Furthering her education she attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Second Education. she further her education back at Southern in the 80's to get her degree to teach Algebra at Morgan City High School. Sis Sylvia was baptized at the New Zorah Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Birdelon at an early age. She later met and married john Wilson of Morgan City, Louisiana. She taught at Willow Street Elem and Hattie Watts in Patterson after receiving her college degree. She retired from St. Mary Parish School system after 38 years of teaching. Ms. Wilson as most of her students would call her was an avid teacher of Algebra, Typing, Bookkeeping and Shorthand. She was also a licensed Notary for the State of Louisiana where she obtained her license from the late Fox McKenneth. Ms. Wilson was also teacher of music. Some of her students were (Ms. Carol Jean LaSalle, Ms. Orlean Robinson, Bro Travis Short and Terrence Ruffin). Under the late Rec. N. W. White, Sis. Wilson and the late Irma White formed the New Zorah Baptist Church Jr., Choir and then later the New Zorah Mass Choir. Sis Wilson played and sung music until her untimely death. She was still part of the Christian Fellowship Choir where she loved to travel and do anything that was asked of her. She loved to shop, eat, ride and most of all visiting other churches. Sis. Wilson leaves to cherish her memories to her husband John Wilson of (51) years of marriage. her daughters, Sandra (Alvin) Wilkerson, Joan Denise Wilson and Tracey R. Wilson all of Morgan City, La; a stepson, John Cooper, Sr., of Morgan City, La; seven grandchildren, Tanisha and Shanelle Wilkerson, Stefayne Carter and Sabrina Madison, John, Jr., Shawn and Quenton all of Morgan City, La; four great-grandchildren, Rashaud A. Thomas and Lessix D. Thomas, Landon t. Wilkerson and Micah S. Wilkerson all of Morgan City, La; six godchildren, Gail R. Bass, Michael L. Ruffin, Melony August, Lloyd "Pete" Wilson, Woodrow Parker, Jr., and Angela Grady. She also leave to cherish her memories to family, friends, and other relatives including children that looked up to her as a mom know as "Mama Sylvia. Sylvia R. Wilson was preceded in death by her grandparents: Nathan Ruffin and Julia Gates-Ruffin, her parents, Arthur (Booze) Ruffin and Julia Watson-Ruffin, a brother, Shelby Arthur Ruffin, Sr., and other uncles, aunts, cousins and family members. ===================
