He will be laid to rest in the Franklin Cemetery. Father William Ruskoski will officiate the services. Ollen was a loving and caring son, husband, and father, and was a wonderful grandfather to his six grandchildren, who he loved to play with. Whether it was coloring, building puzzles and toy trains, or teaching them to shoot their pellet and airsoft guns, if the grandkids were around he was right in the middle of the action. He also enjoyed fishing and trawling. In his earlier years he played saxophone in a local band called Kerry and the Tempos. His entire adult work life was spent in heavy machinery, starting out with Boyce Machinery, which was located in Morgan City, where he worked for nearly 20 years. He then worked for various heavy equipment companies until joining Louisiana Machinery (now Louisiana Cat Power), where he dedicated another 14 years of service, until his retirement in 2010 due to his failing health. Ollen was also a compassionate and positive person, who was more concerned with other people's needs and concerns than his own. Even in dealing with his own battle with cancer, he could often be found comforting and encouraging other cancer patients. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to know him. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Karen Hoover Broussard of Cankton; three daughters, Donna Broussard Hunter and her husband Master Sergeant Kevin Hunter USMC Ret. of Geismar, Robin Broussard Yancoski and her husband Christopher Yancoski of Marrero, and Rebecca Broussard Rodriguez and her husband Larry Rodriguez of Dallas, TX; his parents, Clifford Broussard and Elise Rogers Broussard of Franklin; one brother-in-law, Ray Hoover, Jr. and his wife Beth of Lafayette; one sister-in-law, Sherri Hoover Nesom and her husband Arthur Nesom, Jr. of Glenmora; three nephews, Philip Hoover and his wife Leslie and their sons, Stephen and Colin, Dale Nesom and his wife Jana and their daughters, Destinee, Keely, and Layla, and Herschel Behr and his wife Brandi and their three sons, Landon, Dominic, and Daniel; and six grandchildren, Ryan Matthew Hunter, Catherine Elise Hunter, Quentin Joseph Yancoski, Matthew John Yancoski, Alaina Nichole Rodriguez, and Evan Michael Rodriguez. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Altia Rogers and Celestine Naquin Rogers; paternal grandparents, Wilson Broussard and Hortence Theriot Broussard; his parents-in-law, Ray Hoover, Sr. and Quintilla Robichaux Hoover; one nephew, Chad Hoover; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and other family members. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday at Ibert's Mortuary from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM, and again Friday from 8:00 AM until time of dismissal at 10:30 AM. Serving as pallbearers will be his three sons-in-law, Master Sergeant Kevin Hunter USMC Ret., Christopher Yancoski, and Larry Rodriguez, and his three nephews, Philip Hoover, Dale Nesom, and Herschel Behr. Honorary pallbearers will be his four grandsons, Ryan Matthew Hunter, Quentin Joseph Yancoski, Matthew John Yancoski, and Evan Michael Rodriguez. For those wishing to make memorial contributions, the family suggests donations in Ollen's memory to the American Cancer Society, 1604 W Pinhook Rd Ste 203, Lafayette, Louisiana 70508, 337-237-3736, or at www.cancer.org.
