Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2013/sm1308.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00am, Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baldwin, with the viewing starting at 9am for Raphael Etienne Rodriguez Jr. 73, a resident of Ashton, who passed away on August 7, 2013, at his resident with his family by his side. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Fr. Gregory Cormier will officiate the services with Deacon Gerald Bourg co- celebrating. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patsy Naquin Rodriguez of Ashton; one son, Raphael "Chuck" Rodriguez III and his wife Jonni Jo of Ashton; three daughters, Rebecca L. Rodriguez of Ashton, Patrice R. Picard and her husband Brian of Four Corners, and Rachel R. Ecuer and her husband Gerald of Charenton; eight grandchildren, Raphael "Jake" Rodriguez IV, Rebekah R. Vallot, Rock E. Rodriguez, Robin R. Hebert, Winifred R. Rodriguez, Margaret C. Rodriguez, Olivia M. Picard, and Brian "Hunter" Picard; two step grandchildren, Haden A. Ecuer and Gabriella A. Ecuer; five great grandchildren, Layken Rodriguez, Raphael "Ray" Rodriguez V, Charles "Trae" Vallot, Celia Rose Vallot, an awaiting great grandson, Andrew Jude Hebert due in September of this year; one sister, Lily Rodriguez Helms of Bradenton, FL; one brother, James J. Rodriguez of Ashton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael E. Rodriguez Sr. and Druscilla Wiltz Rodriguez; his father and mother-in-law, David T. and Marie Naquin; one brother, Martin "Mott" Rodriguez; and one granddaughter, Celia Marie Picard. Pookie was President and Owner of Josephine Plantation, Inc., Past President of the St. Mary Sugar Cooperative having served for 29 consecutive years and honorary member of the Board of Directors, Past President of St. Mary Parish Drainage Board, Glencoe Charter School, St. Mary Parish Fair Association, and Past Council President of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Baldwin, Honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, past member of the St. Mary Parish Farm Bureau, 4-H Advisory Council, American Legion, American Sugar Cane League, Louisiana Cattleman's Association, St. Mary Parish School Board Vocational Association, First Commercial Banks Citizen of the Quarter in 1991, and Reigned as Grand Marshall of the Baldwin Mardi Gras Parade in 2006. Pookie also served in the Army National Guard for three years. He was also honored as the Outstanding Young Farmer by the Jaycees and has received recognition by schools and organizations throughout the area which are too numerous to mention. In his earlier years Pookie loved to garden and pursue his hobby of cooking. Serving as pallbearers will be Jake Rodriguez, Rock Rodriguez, Hunter Picard, Gregory Rodriguez, Todd Rodriguez, Terry "Doo" Conner, Charles Vallot, Matthew Hebert, and Brian Picard. Readers will be Rock Rodriguez and Robin Hebert. Serving as guest speaker will be Mrs. Donna Lancelin. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Heart of Hospice-South Louisiana, to the Staff of Franklin Home Care, to Pookie's dedicated nurses, Barbara Jackson, Terry Dwyer, Terry "Doo" Conner, to his granddaughter, Margaret, and to Dr. Roland Degeyter and staff for the loving and compassionate care given to Pookie during his illness.
