Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2013/sm1309.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Elouise Salone age 83, a resident of Franklin, La., died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 9:40 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, La. Mrs. Salone, the daughter of the late Mr. Dan Benjamin and the late Mrs. Ella B. Hurst, was born in Jeanerette, Louisiana, on April 5, 1930. She was the only girl and middle child among her four siblings. Elouise was baptized at an early age at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Franklin, Louisiana, where she sang in the young people’s choir called the “Echoes of Zion,” which was the first black choir to sing on the radio in her community. Elouise remained active in church and later became a member of the Senior Choir, the Deaconess Ministry, and other committees. She graduated from Franklin Negro High School in 1950 and later attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL). On March 3, 1952, Elouise married Mr. Ernest Salone and travelled with him while he served his country during the Korean War. To their union, one daughter was born. Upon returning to Franklin, Mrs. Salone worked at the Franklin Foundation Hospital and Teche Action Clinic for many years until her retirement. Mrs. Salone was a devoted member of the Crossing Place Fellowship in Franklin, where she served as a greeter, a prayer warrior, a member of the “Golden Heirs” senior group, and wherever and whenever needed. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, gospel music, spending time with her family, and helping others. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Crossing Place Fellowship, 1096 Northwest Boulevard in Franklin, from 9:00 a.m. until the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Salone leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Karen Salone (Lloyd) Smith of Franklin; one grandson, Jeohn Salone Favors of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Lynn Hurst of Franklin; other children she loved as her own including Reed Preston of Baton Rouge; Dennis (Sherry) Preston of Franklin; Dacia (Kimeray) Wells of Saucier, Mississippi; Cheryl Lockett of Baton Rouge; and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Salone was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Dan Benjamin and Mrs. Ella B. Hurst; her husband, Mr. Ernest Salone; three brothers: Mr. Leroy LeBlanc, Mr. Henry Benjamin, Sr., and Mr. Billy Hurst; and a surrogate son, Mr. Ed Ronn Boatmon. ===================
