Gaudet, 82, known to all as "Sonny", a lifelong resident of Morgan City, died Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City. Sonny loved life, and the many things it had to offer, especially being on the water. He was a man of great marine knowledge and wisdom. He will always be remembered as a good man with charm and a wonderful sense of humor. He had a unique ability to think about life and a love for his family, friends and his fellowman. But nothing compared to the love he had for his family and that of his wife, Beryl, of over 61 years. He exemplified the spirit of Christ in that he was a servant to many. He always made an effort to put others above himself. He was a man that people could depend on for just about anything. Sonny was a self-sufficient man that believed in working hard and doing the very best you can for your family and took great pride in the family business, "Gaudet Towing" a Marine Transportation Company. Sonny believed in the importance of teaching his children the value of hard work and the love for God. He always made sure that his children went to church and learned to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. Sonny attended the Church of God of Prophecy for over 65 years and loved to worship the Lord. The members of his congregation were all considered as family to him. He had a relationship with Jesus who sustained him through many storms in life both physically and spiritually as in the "Valley of the Shadow of Death" that David wrote about in Psalm 23. He was not only a great father to his 6 children and their spouses, but he was like a father to all of his nieces and nephews and many church kids. He loved the open water and taking friends and family out on his boat to share with them the experience of fishing and shrimping the way his father had taught him. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he impacted in his own special way. He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin Joseph "Jack" Gaudet and Ethel Katy "Sister" Topham Gaudet and a sister Evella Gaudet Bronson. He is survived by his wife, Beryl Landry Gaudet, of Morgan City; one brother, Charles Roger Gaudet of Morgan City; Three sons, Terry Gaudet of Morgan City, Gary Gaudet and his wife, Lisa, of Berwick, Patrick Gaudet and his wife, Rachel, of Bayou Vista. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, there righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
