Michael retired from the United States Postal Service. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine in Vietnam, where he was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. Michael was a devout Catholic who strived daily to serve the Lord. He was a devoted husband and said that his wife gave him a glance of what to expect in Heaven. The pride and joy of his life was his son, and he was overjoyed when he was blessed to become a grandfather to his two grandsons. Michael loved traveling and the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and enjoying nature. Michael is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Merinda Gaspard Léger; his son, Michael Christopher Léger; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Léger; and two grandsons, Dominic and Rémy Léger. He is also survived by his sister, Lela Léger Rulf; his brothers, Paul Léger Sr., and Carrol Léger Sr., as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Wilson Léger; his mother, Theresa Fuselier Léger; and his brother, Gerald Léger. Pallbearers will be Michael Christopher Léger, Paul Léger Jr., Carrol Léger Jr., Leslie Rulf Jr., Cedric Dupre Sr., and Floyd Gaspard. Honorary pallbearers will be Dominic and Rémy Léger. The family requests that visitation take place Tuesday, November 19, 2013 from 8am until time of service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City with a Mass of Christian burial beginning at 10am. Michael will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Mausoleum with the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad rendering military honors. ===================
