Smith, Sr., age 97, a native of Shadyside and a resident of Franklin, La., died Monday, March 17th at 6:35 AM at his residence. Howard was a long time employee of Oaklawn Sugar Company. Visitation will be Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Crossing Place Church in Franklin, La., from 10:00 AM until funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Nazarene Baptist Cemetery. Howard leaves to cherish his memories; his loving wife, Nonnie J. Smith of Franklin, La.; two sons, Howard (Gail) Smith, Jr., of Patterson, La., and John Ray (Denna) Smith of Centennial, Colorado; four daughters, Ruth S. Sterling of Lafayette, La., Patricia Smith Verdun of Verdunville, La., Rosemary Smith of Tomball, TX., and Judy Milton of Farmington Hills, Michigan; two stepdaughters, Elaine (Ricky) Vining and Susan (Ronald) Murray both of Patterson, La., three step children, Kevin J. Chatman of Youngston, OH., Darlene (Dewayne) Givens of Atlanta, GA., and Courtenay (Terry) Chatman of Columbus, OH. , a son-in-law, Charles Dabney of Houston, TX; 34 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives, and friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Lawrence and Mary Louise Smith and a daughter, Heloise Dabney, his infant son, James Smith, five sisters, Teresa Guy, Carrie Willis, Stella Willis, Dorothy White and Isabella Mallard; two brothers, Larry Smith, Sr., and Charles Smith, Sr ===================
