A Mass of Christian burial for Frederick John "Fred" Roy will be celebrated at 
11:00 AM Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in 
Baldwin. 

He will be laid to rest with Honors in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. 
Father Bill Melancon will officiate the services. 

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Cunningham, Al LeBlanc, Clint Breaux, Kent 
Mire, Dustin Fuselier, Nicholas Dupuy, and Marqus Christian.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday at Ibert's Mortuary in 
Franklin from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM. 
Visitation will resume Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in 
Baldwin at 9:00 AM and continue until Mass time.

Fred was born in Franklin on January 9, 1955, the oldest of four children, to 
Bert James Roy and Yvonne Hairford Roy. He was a graduate of Hanson Memorial 
High School, and Loyola and USL, where he received an Associate's Degree in Law 
Enforcement. 
His career in law enforcement began at an early age, volunteering as a reserve 
officer for the Baldwin Police Dept. where he later became a full-time officer. 
He also was a volunteer fireman in Baldwin. His love of public service then led 
him to the Louisiana State Police Academy, where he completed his training and 
became a Louisiana State Trooper, Troop C, as well as a pilot for Gov. Edwin 
Edwards, and undercover narcotics officer. He retired from the LSP with the 
rank of Sergeant following 20 years of dedicated service. Unable to leave law 
enforcement, Fred went on to work for the Chitimacha Tribal Police as Chief of 
Police. Following his time with the Chitimacha Tribal Police, Fred moved on to 
work as an Investigator for the 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office, where 
he was a commissioned officer for St. Mary, Iberia, and St. Martin Parishes, 
and was later promoted to Supervisor of Probations and Issuing Worthless 
Checks. He was also a longtime Investigator for the St. Mary Parish Coroner's 
Office.

Fred was also a very faith-filled man and a leader in the Christian community. 
A devout Catholic, he was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic 
Church in Baldwin, where he served at various times as a catechism teacher, an 
usher, as well as Eucharistic Minister. He was a 4th Degree member and past 
Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Baldwin Council 6873, of which he 
joined as a junior in high school, was an attendee and spiritual mentor of 
Cursillo Retreat and Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House in Grand Coteau, and 
was a bereavement care volunteer with Hospice of Acadiana. Fred's faith life 
also led him to the Blessed Seelos Shrine in New Orleans, which he served as a 
Blesser for the Acadiana Area.

His hobbies included cooking, especially with his black iron pots. He won 
multiple cook-offs and was always eager to share his meals with family and 
friends, especially his mother. He was an avid gun collector, gunsmith, 
shooter, and all around gun enthusiast, an avid reader, was a skilled handyman, 
craftsman, and woodworker, played the guitar, piano, and saxophone, enjoyed 
hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and landscaping, and was a dog-lover. But 
most of all, he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, 
uncle and friend who loved his family dearly, always had kind words to say, and 
was always ready to help anyone out. Fred's final act of love and caring for 
others was his desire to be a tissue donor, which was fulfilled through Fred's 
generosity as well as that of his family.

Fred passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at 
Franklin Foundation Hospital at the age of 59. He will be deeply missed and 
fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Lorie Cawthon Roy of Four Corners; his daughter, 
Lauren Roy Dupuy and her husband Nicholas of Youngsville; his mother, Yvonne 
Hairford Roy of Baldwin; two sisters, Wavely Cunningham and her husband Bill of 
Shreveport, and Countice LeBlanc and her husband Al of Baldwin; one 
granddaughter, Noelle Rose Dupuy of Youngsville; five nieces, Emily, Adrienne, 
Mandy, Rebecca, and Victoria; one nephew, Clint; two great-nieces, Alexia and 
Jentci Christian; one great-nephew, Marqus Christian, Jr.; and his faithful and 
beloved pet dogs, Bear, Tasso, and File'.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bert James Roy; his brother, Shelton 
James Roy; his maternal grandparents, John and Elphia Ducote Hairford; and his 
paternal grandparents, Frederick and Adele St. Martin Roy.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc., 1007 Main Street, 
Franklin, LA
