"Trace" Barras, III, will be held Monday, February 23, 2015, at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian burial. Father Bill Melancon will be the celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. He will be laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baldwin. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at the Church of Assumption from 10:00AM until time of service. Serving as pallbearers will be David Aymond, II, Robert Box, Jr., Scott Naquin, Jared Caviness, Jonathan Walden, Nick Bailey, Jessie Mendoza and Nick Mendoza. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nathaniel Caldwell, Cody Thibodeaux and Brennan Caffery. Trace, a native of Franklin and lifelong resident of Baldwin, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at University Medical Hospital in Shreveport, surrounded by family. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, who will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, his unforgettable laugh, and for having the kindest heart of any man his family and friends have known. Trace also was a member of a very competitive fantasy football league and will be greatly missed by his league. Survivors include his father, Herbert P. "Bert" Barras, Jr. of Charenton; mother, Lisa Ibert Barras and her fiancé Peter Stark of Port Barre; sister, Bailey Barras Caldwell and her husband Justin of Lafayette; nephew, Nathaniel Caldwell; best friend/brother, David Aymond, II of Carencro; maternal grandfather, Charles Bordelon of Franklin; maternal aunts and uncles, Denise Ibert Lane and her husband Tom of Houston, TX, Brian "Ki" Ibert and his wife Kye of Rockwall, TX, Brad Ibert and his wife Trish of Mire, and Paul Ibert of Franklin; paternal aunts and uncles, Lynn Barras-Leyse, Ann Barras, Blythe Lyons and Lon Randall, all of Lafayette; maternal cousins, Kate Lane of Boston, MA and Mark Lane of Houston, TX; and a special family friend, Kim Hidalgo. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles Smith Ibert and Nancy Bailey Ibert Bordelon; paternal grandparents, Herbert P. Barras, Sr. and Hazel Hebert Barras; maternal uncle, Glenn David Ibert; paternal aunts, Cecilia Barras Wilson and Aimee Barras Parro; and paternal uncle, Dean Leyse.
