An electrician, Gary was the person everyone would go to for help fixing computers, vehicles, boats, and other electrical gadgets. It was a rule of thumb that he could fix anything but a television. Kind and compassionate, Gary was also the person that everyone went to for assistance in general. He loved fishing in his spare time, renovating old cars, and spending time with his family. Gary believed deeply that family was the most important thing in life. Gary was a proud Masonic member of the Lafayette Lodge #87 and part of the Shriners. Gary leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years and child hood sweetheart, Helen Melancon; his mother, Adeline Melancon; two daughters, Leah Stelly and husband, Raymond, and Gini Ingram and her husband, James; one son, Gary Melancon Jr and his wife, Nadine; surrogate daughter, Valerie Guillot and her husband, Walter; six grandchildren, Whitney Lazarus and husband, P.D., Sadie Landry and her husband, Beau, Sydney Ingram, Joseph Stelly III, Evangeline Melancon, and Samuel Melancon; three great grandchildren, Luke Lazarus, Beau Lazarus, and Jayden Windmon, and another great grandchild on the way; and two sisters, Linda Beaubouef and her husband, Stan, and Dr. Wendy Melancon and her husband, Rusty Cousins; and numerous god children. He joins in heaven his father, Mark Melancon Jr. and his nephew, Cody Cousins. The family requests that visitations be observed Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 10am until time of services at 2pm at Hargrave Funeral Home. Gary will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum in Patterson. ===================
