Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2015/sm1504.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Robert Leonard Schaff was called home to heaven and passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on April 11, 2015 after losing a long battle with Cancer. Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. He had a strong belief of values and good work ethic which he instilled into his two children. He was a veteran serving in the United States Navy completing two tours during the Vietnam Conflict. Robert began his career with Berry Bros. Contractors working for several different companies including Larry Doiron Contractors, Jag Construction, Environmental Treatment, and Athena Construction where he retired in March of 2015. He was a devoted husband, marrying the love of his life over 44 years ago. He was a great father and involved himself in his children's lives and coached them in numerous sports, earning the nickname "COACH ROBERT". One of his most coveted coaching achievements was when he led the 1990, Bayou Vista Dixie Youth 12 year old All-Stars, to the State Tournament in which the team finished fourth in the state. The team was also a recipient of the Sportsmanship Trophy, which was a reflection of what he taught his children and his players. He was a man with a strong belief in values; with these values he was involved with Masonry. Robert was a Past Master of Doric Lodge #205, Free and Accepted Masons, which he served as master of the lodge during three separate years. He was involved in many organizations that were branches of masonry which included, The Plains Commandery #11 Knights Templar Baton Rouge, LA, which he served as the commander of the organization. He was also involved with The Acacia Shrine Temple, St. Mary Shrine Club, Baton Rouge Downtown York Rite Bodies, and the Scottish Rite Consistory in Baton Rouge, La. He served in many different positions in the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana under several different Grand Masters including 12th Masonic District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Pursuivant, Grand Junior Deacon, Grand Inner Guard, and Grand Master Expert. He loved the values set forth in Masonry and contributed to the organization only making it better. He was a true believer that Masonry took a good man and made them a better man. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Rosemary Cortez Schaff, two sons Robert Leonard Schaff Jr. and his wife Natasha of Mandeville, La, John Michael Schaff and his wife Melissa of Morgan City, La, four grandchildren Matthew Schaff, Katelyn Schaff, Grace Toups, and Emma Schaff, one sister Donna Schaff Duplantis, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard Robert Schaff and Theo Cooper Schaff, and nephew Chris Duplantis. Visitation will be held on Monday April 13, 2015, at 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City, La. A Masonic Memorial Service will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. Visitation will reopen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 415 Union Street Morgan City, La on Tuesday April 14, 2015, at 8:00 am with a Catholic Service to begin at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at the Berwick Cemetery with the East St. Mary Veteran Funeral Squad officiating over military honors. The family will be having a gathering at the Doric Lodge#205 Masonic Lodge located at 506 Second Street Morgan City, LA shortly after burial.
