She will be laid to rest in Ibert's Memorial Park Cemetery in Patterson. Rev. Steven Kelly will officiate the services. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday at Bayou Vista Baptist Church from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and again Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service. Mrs. Shafer was a native of Galveston, TX and a 58 year resident of Berwick, who fought a long and hard battle with many illnesses during her life, until being called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side holding her hands on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. D'Lynn was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She graduated from Nicholls State University with a Bachelor's Degree in English Education and a Minor in Library Science. A woman of strong Christian faith, she was a longtime member of the Bayou Vista Baptist Church, where she sang in the Choir and participated in church plays and cantatas. She also taught Sunday School and worked with VBS, touching the lives of many children and leading them to the Lord. A very gifted woman, Mrs. D'Lynn sewed, painted and also had a love of reading. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, William "Bill" C. Shafer; two daughters, Rebecca S. Eremia and husband Tony and Christy S. Fontenot and husband Jim; three grandchildren, Joshua Eremia, Katherine Eremia, and C. J. Fontenot; one brother, Dan L. Dodds and wife Janice; one brother-in-law, Guy Shafer and wife Kathy; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant son, William C. Shafer, Jr.; her parents, Dan and Frances Stevens Dodds; and her father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Bernita Walzel Shafer. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center ICU and especially to D'Lynn's caregiver, Kahydeisha Wesley, for the loving and compassionate care given. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc., 1111 Lia Street, Patterson, LA ===================
