All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.shtml ======================================================================= LAY, MARY ANN October 5, 1940 - May 23, 2015 Mary Ann Lay, of Patterson, Louisiana, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2015, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by her family. Visitation with the family will be held at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City, Louisiana, on Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 9am until time of service at 11am. Burial will be immediately following at St. Joseph Cemetery in Patterson. Mary Ann was born on October 5, 1940, in Baton Rouge to Carl and Anna Gill and spent her childhood in New Roads, Louisiana, with her parents and brother, Eugene Gill. Upon her high school graduation she attended USL where she graduated with honors and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. While in college she met the love of her life, Milford Woodrow Lay, Jr., whom she married in 1963. They later settled in Morgan City, Louisiana, where they started their family and worked together in the oil and gas industry, eventually founding Drill String Services, Inc., in 1989. Mary Ann loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren at her home on the Bayou Teche in Patterson. She was also a collector of antiques and enjoyed spending time gardening. Mary Ann is survived by her children, Milford "Trip" Woodrow Lay, III, and wife, Stacy; and Melinda Lay Morton and husband, Phillip. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Jordan Lay, Ross Lay, Hannah Lay, Madison Morton, Julianna Lay, Jaxson Lay, Aiden Morton, Joshua Thomas and Jacob Thomas; two brother-in-laws, Robert Lay, wife Ann and nephew Alan, and William Lay, wife Carolyn; one sister-in-law, Mary Gill and three nieces, Alita Gill Caparotta and family, Carla Gill White and family, and Kristen Gill Cantwell and family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Milford; parents, Carl and Anna Gill; and brother, Eugene Gill. Pallbearers are Ross Lay, Joshua Thomas, Jacob Thomas, Alan Lay, Jeffrey Day and Jaret Rentrop. Honorary Pallbearers are Wiley Magee; Norman Hymel; B.A. "Red" Adams, Sr.; Robert Lay; Michael Caparotta; Michael White and John Cantwell.
