Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2015/sm1505.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== A Mass of Christian burial for Ethel Theresa Martin Lowery will be celebrated Monday, May 25, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baldwin. She will be laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum. Father Michael Russo, of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin from 10:00 AM until time of dismissal at 1:30 PM, with the rosary being prayed at 11:30 AM. Ethel was a native and lifelong resident of Baldwin. She retired from the US Post Office after 34 years of service at the Baldwin Post Office, 17 years as the Post Master. Ethel loved her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They affectionately called her Grannie. Ethel was a wonderful cook and was known for her pies, coconut cake, and "Grannie" spaghetti and meatballs. Ethel was active in her church parish, having been a past member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Good Samaritans. She also served as an adorer at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel in Franklin. Ethel was known for her dry sense of humor and quick wit, as well as being "canaille." She always said she didn't want to behave because "behaving wasn't fun." Survivors include her children, George Martin Lowery and wife Dolores, Bonnie L. Millet and husband Leo, Patricia L. Venetis and husband Steve, Paula L. McRae and husband George, and Perry J. Lowery; her brother, Francis Martin and wife Babs; her sisters, Genevieve M. Boudreaux and husband Sidney and Eloise M. Albares and husband Eddie; her grandchildren, Christopher Venetis and wife Tara, Jennifer Venetis Couvillion and husband Kevin, Sandi Millet Gonzalez and husband Robert, Katie Millet Moga and husband Mike, Jonathan McRae, and Colin McRae; as well as ten great grandchildren, Sarah, Rebekah, Adriannah, Alaynah, Arron, Caroline, Katherine, Connor, Cameron, and Abigail. She was preceded in death by her husband, Royal Lowery; and infant son, Henry Robert Lowery; her parents, Bernard Martin and Gabrielle Derise Martin; her brothers, Alton, Ernest, and Lou Martin; and her sister, Milda Denton; as well as by two infant sisters. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Alfaretta Broussard and Christine Deshotel, as well as Hospice of Acadiana for the wonderful, loving, and compassionate care given to their mother.
