All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.shtml ======================================================================= BOURGEOIS, SHELTON JOSEPH Devoted husband and father Shelton Joseph Bourgeois, 77, died Wednesday Sept. 30 at 12:50 p.m. at Our House for Respite with his family at his side. Shelton was born Feb. 20, 1938 in Franklin, La. to Wilson Joseph Bourgeois and Mabel Dugas Bourgeois. Shelton was a member of De Lasalle Brothers from 1951 until 1966 where he was known as Brother Benjamin Michael. He graduated from De Lasalle Christian Normal School in 1956. He received his B.A. in math from Saint Michaels College of Santa Fe and his Master of Science in math education from The University of New Mexico. He left the Christian Brothers in 1966. He began his IT career at Burroughs Corporation for three years then returned to teaching at Episcopal High School where he taught math for five years. After leaving Episcopal High School he began a 25 year career at BASF Corporation as a Senior Systems Analyst. He retired from BASF in 1996. Shelton is survived by his wife of 46 years, Billie Southwick Bourgeois and his twin daughters, Kara D. Peters (spouse Bernard J. Peters), Shawn B. Oglesby (spouse David Oglesby), and Nicole B. Palfi (spouse Djole Palfi). He is also survived by six grandchildren Jacob William Peters, Lauren Kathleen Peters, Ava Michelle Oglesby, Ella Nicole Palfi, Marilyn Elizabeth Peters, and Aaron Brandon Oglesby; his sisters Maxine B. Hebert and Lee Ann B. LeBlanc (spouse Tommy LeBlanc). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Micheal Bourgeois, sister Elizabeth B. Clifton, and his brother Wilson (Buddy) Bourgeois. Shelton taught math in high schools in El Paso, Texas, Opelousas, La., and Baton Rouge, La. He was a greatly loved educator who will continue his gift of teaching even in death as he donated his body to scientific research. He was a gentle unassuming man who had a love for fishing, music, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was especially proud of his Cajun heritage. A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Johns United Methodist Church at 9375 Highland Road in Baton Rouge, La. Visitation was at 10:30 a.m. with the service beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a reception held in the church hall.
