In life, Joe enjoyed being surrounded by the whole family for a good meal and good times, and his last few days were celebrated the very same way. Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Curline Marcantel Matte and the children they shared including sons and their spouses, Timothy (Andrea)Matte, Steve Matte( finance' Anne Menard)Matte, Brad (Jan)Matte, daughters and their spouses Debra (Timmy) Hymel, Anna (Kenneth) Cefalu, Lisa (Steve) Orlando, and Marlene (Brent)Ledet. He is also survived by their grandchildren, Jeffrey and Eric Matte, Jonathan and Nicholas Matte, Ashley Matte, Kelly Burch, and Bradley Matte, Ryan, Morgan and Dylan Hymel, Bobbie Waguespack, Elizabeth Leonard, Emily Bergeron, and Helena Cefalu, Jason Orlando, Noelle Montgomery, Justin, Jared, and Jessica Orlando, J.P. Doiron, Kolby, Kyle and Brandon Ledet, and Maggie and Paige Landry. They also shared their love with 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Zelema Matte, his first wife, Gloria Olivier Matte and his nine sisters. Joe moved to Morgan City in 1962 to open the Anthony's Department store (formally American Dept. store) from which he retired in 1997. His life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at noon on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. His grandsons' will serve as pall bearers. The family will greet visitors beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 11, 2015. He will be laid to rest at the Morgan City cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in his memory to either Central Catholic High School, Holy Cross Elementary, or Holy Cross Catholic Church ===================
