Minster Melvin Jackson was a native of Sorrel, LA and a resident of Franklin, LA. He was born on August 17, 1949 to the late Leroy Jackson Senior and the late Cora Gable Jackson. He began his Christian journey at an early age at St. Moses Baptist Church. He attended public schools in St. Mary Parish and graduated from Park Avenue High School in 1967. After high school, Melvin attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from Southern University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. While in college, Melvin became a member of the Southern University Marching Band, but then after a year, he devoted his time to his studies. His degree in Business Management afforded him almost 20 years of several positions as both assistant manager and manager at Eckerd Drugs (now CVS); and manager of one of the largest volume TG&Y stores in the country. Later in life, he moved back home to the Sorrel area, and began to encounter his spiritual walk with the Lord. While on this journey, he met his beloved and devoted wife, Andrea Theriot Jackson. Minister Melvin and Andrea were united in Holy Matrimony on August 28, 1999. Together they not only raised a loving family, but were also building their future together in the Lord. Minister Melvin was a hard worker. During this time, he was also employed by SMI Fabricators, Bay Offshore, and he retired with Superior Fabricators. He delivered his first sermon on December 3, 2011. At AMG Speciality Hospital in Lafayette, LA, Minister Melvin went home to the Lord on Friday, February 26, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Andrea Jackson; three sons, Aaron Climax (Torsha), Josh Diaz (Emoni), and Damien Jackson; two daughters, Dashella Taylor (Troy) and Andrenique Climax; two brothers, Cleveland Sr. (Amy) and Ernest (Mary); two sisters, Ida Mae Swan and Blanche Charles; three granddaughters, Faith Phillips, Trinity Climax, and Tia Taylor; three grandsons, LaZarion Butler, Chase Taylor, Cody Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
