She was a Garden Designer and Landscape Architect, a longtime resident of New Orleans and more recently Franklin, Louisiana. She was born in Marshall, Texas. She graduated from Marshall High School and The University of Texas, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. She married James P. Evans, III in Marshall in August, 1965 and moved to New Orleans. Shannon loved plants, gardens and their design. She received a Master Degree in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University in 1988 and is a member of Sigma Lambda Alpha, the Honorary Society of Landscape Architects, the American Society of Landscape Architects and a Master Gardner. Shannon designed and installed many gardens in New Orleans. She was a member of the Riverfront Transit Coalition Group, Inc. installing the Riverfront Streetcar Line in 1988. She was Executive Director of the Riverfront Floodwall Corridor Committee, whose task was the beautification of the Riverfront Floodwall along the Streetcar line. Shannon was the Chair of the Franklin Street Light Restoration Committee. She was a member of the New Orleans Junior League, the Junior League Garden Club, National Society of Colonial Dames in Louisiana (past Board Member), St. Mary Landmarks Society (past President), St Mary's Episcopal Church Franklin (past Vestry Member) and Regent of The George Washington Foundation. Most of all, Shannon loved her family and friends. They reciprocated and remember her love of them and the good times they shared. She is survived by her husband, Jim, her daughter, Kelsey E. Rivera of New Orleans and daughter in law, Adriane K. Evans of Franklin, her grandchildren, Gustavo A. Rivera, Jr (Tavo), Maimee Lee L. Rivera and Amoret Frere Evans, her sisters, Claudia D. Ellis and Virginia D. Hamilton of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Virginia and Fred Dyke, her son, James P. Evans, IV, her grandson, Edward Parker Evans, and son-in-law, Gustavo A. Rivera. Her family wants to thank Sherry Carter, Sherise Henry, Connie Brown and the staff at Poydras Home and Desiree Deruen, Chartney Manuel and Amedisys Hospice. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Ibert's Funeral Home Wednesday March 30 from 5:00 to 8:00. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 805 1st St., Franklin, at noon Thursday, March 31.
