Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/stmary/obits/dateobits/2016/sm1608.htm and click on the name of interest. ========== Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baldwin during a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial for Grace Barras Resweber, a longtime resident of Franklin who passed away peacefully at the age of 100 at the Franklin Health Care Center with her family by her side. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Father Bill Melancon will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. Serving pallbearers will be Glen Darce, Jake Parr, Jeffery Resweber, Ryan Resweber, Mikeal Barbay, Blake Steiner, and Charles Durand. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 p.m., led by Ms. Grace's son-in-law, Deacon Harry Darce. Visitations will resume Thursday at Sacred Heart at 10:00 a.m. and continue until time of Mass. Grace was born on June 24, 1916 in St. Martinville to the late Hypolite Barras and the late Cecile Moity Barras. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother who had a generous heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. A longtime former parishioner of the Church of the Assumption, Grace was also a past member of the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters. At the time of her passing, she was the oldest surviving graduate of the Convent of Mercy in St. Martinville, having graduated in 1933. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her four children, Geraldine "Gerry" R. Darce and her husband Harry, Kirk Resweber and his wife Mary "Ginger", Joan R. Stirling and her husband Guy, and Julie Anne R. Parr and her husband Chuck; 14 grandchildren, Michelle D. Steiner and her husband Russell, Stacie D. Prejean and her husband Brennan, Glen Darce and his wife Liz, Julie D. Mire and her husband John, Jeffery Resweber, Ryan Resweber, Kamala B. Benedietto and her husband Randy, Kristian Barbay, Scott Stirling, Kaci Stirling, Katy Parr and her husband Larry Orbeta, Lisa Parr, Jake Parr and his wife Jolynn, and Amy LeBlanc and her husband Jake; 18 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Olan J. Resweber; her brothers, Clarence Barras (infant), Lawrence Barras, Milton "Red" Barras, and Charles Bertrand; her sister, Eunice Barras; two great grandsons, Ellis Cook and John Michael Steiner; and an infant granddaughter, Sadie Spain.
