(SHORT) January 10, 1926 ~ August 15, 2016 (age 90) Ruth S. Singleton, 90, a resident of Morgan City (Siracusa Area), LA and native of Gibson, LA, passed away on Monday August 15, 2016 at 5:17 PM at the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette, LA. Visitation will be observed on Monday August 22, 2016 from 8:00 A.M. until funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at the Railroad Avenue Church of Christ 1105 Railroad Avenue Morgan City, LA, with Stanley Rankins officiating the services. Burial will follow funeral services in the Union Bethel AME Cemetery in Ameila, LA. Ruth Singleton was born January 10, 1926 in Gibson, Louisiana to the late Warmouth Short, Sr. and Bertha Calloway-Short. She was married to the late Alvin Singleton, Sr. of Morgan City, LA with whom she had five children: Alvin Singleton, Jr. (Deceased), Lionel Singleton, Jackie Marie Singleton Jones, Anthony Singleton, and Virginia Singleton Alfred. Ruth was baptized into Christ on October 21, 1981 at the Railroad Avenue Church of Christ by the late Minister Johnnie DarDar, Sr. She loved all her children very much, her church family and was a faithful member until she became too sick to attend services. Ruth rejoiced and enjoyed the hymns and at one time she was a member of the Church of Christ song group. Mrs. Singleton was the perfect example of a hard worker, working three jobs successfully to make sure her children finished high school and received a good education. She helped them to get through business school, college, and medical school. She encouraged them all to work hard to succeed in life. She was a loving mother. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Lionel (Vera) Singleton, Sr., and Anthony Singleton both of Morgan City, LA,; two daughters, Jackie Marie (Joseph) Jones of Morgan City, LA, and Dr. Virginia Singleton-Alfred of Lafayette, LA.; one daughter-in-law, Julia (Susanne) Nelson-Singleton of Morgan City, LA; seven grandchildren, Jovian (Shairee)Jones of Morgan City, LA., Lionel (Ashunta) Singleton, Jr. of Houma, LA, Jermaine (LaShanda) Jones, of Dallas, Texas, Duriel Singleton, Christon Singleton, and Gabriel Singleton of Morgan City, La., and Justin Alfred of Lafayette, LA.; nine great grandchildren, Jalen Jones, Kaylen Jones, Destiny Jones, Madison Jones, Amber Jones, Dawn Jones, Koby Singleton, Kearstin Singleton, and Kristin Singleton; one sister, Betty Vee (Jim) Mitchell of Houma, LA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warmouth Short, Sr. and Bertha Calloway-Short; her husband, Alvin Singleton,Sr.; one son, Alvin Singleton, Jr.; one granddaughter; Jeanette Singleton; seven brothers, Warmouth Short, Jr., Herbert Short, Robert Short, Cleveland Short, Berwick Short, William Short and Norris Short; two sisters, Deloris Short and Virginia Singleton. ===================
