A longtime resident of Berwick, Jean was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts, on May 16, 1946. Jean was an avid quilter and an adopted daughter of the Haida Indian tribe of Hydaburg, Alaska. She loved native American culture and history, and regularly made quilts and dancing blankets for the Haida tribe. Jean is survived by two daughters, Mary Battaglia and husband Joey of New Iberia and Jocklynn Keville and husband Bruce of Houston, Texas; four sons, Tony Richardson and wife Robin of Linden, TX, Dennis Richardson and wife Trelena of Ore City, Texas, Tim Mitchell of Morgan City and Gene Anderson and wife Karen of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a sister, Marilee Shaw of Daingerfield, Texas; a brother, Sam McCord of Texas City, Texas; nine granddaughters, Stacie Vining, Angelle Richardson, Amanda Campbell, Ashlee Mitchell, Amber Mitchell, Faith Rainer, Bridget Lindsay, Melissa Kappus and Erin Anderson; six grandsons, Adam Roy, Matthew Keville, Jonathan Rainer, Brad Anderson, Garrett Anderson and Mitch Anderson; and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Junius J. Mitchell; parents Willie and Eugenia "Dixie" McCord; sisters, Merle Shaw and Virginia Caso; and brother, Wendall McCord. A memorial will be held at a later date in Hydaburg, Alaska.
