Samuel Smith Died 22 March 1888 Merlin Swanson Died 22 March 1888 These graves are in a fenced enclosure with trees growing inside the Small fenced area. It is in a large field, and can be seen from the Road, going North on left side of road, The location is in St. Tammany Parish on Lee Road past Howze's Creek, line. close to Washington Parish Line. According to St. Tariwnany Parish inquest records, these two men were killed by pistol shots inflicted by party or parties unknown. The "St. Tammany Farmer" issue of 24 March 1888 said they were found shot to death on the gallery of the Jones & Swanson Store, located 13 miles from Covington. The store had been opened only a short time. Mr Swanson came from Washington Parish, but was originally from Vicksburg, Miss. Mr. Smith was an employee, well known in Covington. The paper also said a reward of $100. had been offered for the murderer. We saw this grave site on 2 June 1976. Doris Martin Holden & Dolores P. Butler
