He was 88 years of age. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Mandeville for the past 32 years. He was the husband of Joyce L. Abernathy and the late Mable T. Abernathy; the father of Carolyn Carter, Evangeline Lambert and Samuel Abernathy; the brother of Myrtle Purvis and "Bro" Abernathy; the grandfather of seven grandchildren; and the great-grandfather of 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington. Interment was in Mandeville Cemetery. Pearlie Jones Cox COVINGTON -- Pearlie Jones Cox died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. She was 90 years of age. She was a native of Franklinton and a resident of Covington for the past 60 years. She was the wife of the late Ernest V. Cox; the mother of Barbara Galloway, Ernestine Jenkins and the late Betty Jenkins and Herchiel Jones; the sister of the late Willie Jones, Edward Jones, Flemming Jones and Lula Jones; the grandmother of 13 grandchildren; the great-grandmother of 23 great-grandchildren; and the great-great-grandmother of eight great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Schoen Funeral Home in Covington. A religious service will be held at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Covington Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Barker-McManus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Rose Renegar Walker COVINGTON -- Rose Renegar Walker died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000. She was 85 years of age. She was a former resident of Covington and Baton Rouge. She was the wife of the late Thad R. Walker; the mother of Thad M. Walker, John W. Walker and Rosemary E. Commander; the daughter of the late Heronemus Renegar and Maude M. Conroy; the stepdaughter of Michael F. Hughes; and the grandmother of one grandchild. A funeral service was held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of Schoen Funeral Home in Covington. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. December 3, 2000 Elsie Reagan King Joseph Lawrence Nettles December 3, 2000 Elsie Reagan King DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. -- Elsie Reagan King died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000. She was 82 years of age. She was a native of Bogalusa, La., a longtime resident of Covington, La. and a resident of Diamondhead. She was the mother of Lawrence R. King Jr. and Glenn W. King; the sister of Sybil Paul, Helen Reagan and Frank Reagan; the grandmother of six grandchildren; and the great-grandmother of 18 great-grandchildren. A private funeral service was held. Joseph Lawrence Nettles COVINGTON -- Joseph Lawrence Nettles died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000. He was 90 years of age. He was a native of Gloster, Miss. and a resident of Covington for the past 43 years. He was the husband of Janie R. Nettles; the father of Jane N. Sanchez, JoAnn N. Gallagher, Jenna N. Core and Judi N. Taylor; the grandfather of 11 grandchildren; and the great-grandfather of 14 great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Covington. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. December 10, 2000 Ulysse Joseph Simoneaux December 10, 2000 Ulysse Joseph Simoneaux COVINGTON -- Ulysse Joseph Simoneaux died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000. He was 84 years of age. He was a native of Plattenville and a resident of Lacombe for the past 29 years. He was the husband of Edna W. Simoneaux; the father of Gary Simoneaux and Wayne Simoneaux; the brother of Hillary Simoneaux, Hilda Muzar, Geraldine Haskey and the late Harry Simoneaux, Lloyd Simoneaux, Louis Simoneaux, Theresa LeBlanc and Adeline Hebert; and the grandfather of two grandchildren. A funeral service was held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington. Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
