Hansen Baublitz, 95, of Slidel, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter B. Hansen by first marriage and Samuel A. Baublitz by second marriage. She was the stepmother of Thomas and Timothy Baublitz and Beth Evans, loving mother of Phyllis H. Mandot (Paul, Sr.) and Robert S. Hansen; daughter of the late Frederick Gardner and Anna Miller Gardner; sister of the late Ruth Gardner Smith and Mildred Gardner Gault. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Baublitz was a native of McKeesport, Penn. and a resident of Slidell for the past 15 years. He was 64. Joseph was a native of New Orleans, he lived his early years in Arnaudville, Louisiana. A resident of Covington, Louisiana for the past 9 years. He is survived by his beloved wife, Andrea Bernard, his daughter Monette Garon and her husband Richard, his sons Ellis Bernard and Wesley Clark and two grandchildren Rance Robertson and Ricky Garon. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Georgia Bernard. Joseph was a 1964 graduate of Alcee Fortier High School. He completed the New Orleans Police Academy in 1968 and retired from the New Orleans Police Department in 1983. He later joined the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office in 1987 and retired in 1999. While at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office he actively organized neighborhood watch associations and promoted participation in National Night Out Against Crime. He was also a founder of Community Action for St. Tammany (C.A.S.T.) which organized sock hops for children to fund local D.A.R.E. programs in the 1990's. Joseph was a founding member of the Police Association of New Orleans (PANO) and served as their first Treasurer. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12072 and a parishioner of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He was a faithful friend of Bill W. for the past 13 years. He was a retired Aerospace Engineer with Chrysler and Martin Marietta having worked on the Redstone, Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the Space Shuttle programs. He also was a retired Professor at Southeastern Louisiana University, Dept. of Industrial Technology. A graduate of the University of New Mexico in engineering and earned Master Degrees from the University of Michigan in Mechanical Engineering and the Chrysler Institute in Automotive Engineering. He was one of the first civilian engineers to go to Huntsville, AL to study Rocketry from the German Scientist Wernher von Braun and one of the first engineers chosen by Chrysler fro the Aerospace Division. He was the holder of numerous patents including the patent on optical character recognition and biomedical sensing devices. Served in the Navy during WWII and a member of the Ancient Mariners, an organization of former sailors. Beloved father of Thomas Buell and spouse Dawnell, Duncan A. Chima, born and raised in Austin, Texas, graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Chima loved her Lord and worked diligently to share her love and belief with others. She shared her time, talents and passion for music with the children and youth at Briarwood School and Memorial Drive UMC in Houston, Texas for 18 years and then for the next 9 years at Cedarwood School and St. Timothy UMC in Mandeville, Louisiana. She directed children and youth choirs and was a very active member of both the Adult and Handbell Choirs. She loved and cared about so many and was a best friend to all. Chima was preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Karleen Williams, a stepmother Beth Stone Williams and a brother Gerald E. Jr. She is survived by Buz Clanton her loving husband of 37 years, a son Kerry Hughes, a daughter Leah Chima, a brother Jerry Williams and his wife Denise, a sister Jinx Lacey, a stepbrother Rhett Stone and his wife Candy, two wonderful caregivers, Sindy Robinson and Mary Howell, and many, many other fantastic family and friends. The beloved husband of Mary Yuhasz Clement for 62 years, he is survived by two sons, Denis and Robert Clement; six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Gloria Jean Martin. Mr. Clement owned and operated Clement Service Station, a gas station and wrecker service, for over 60 years. He served his country during WW II as a paratrooper in the Army's 82nd Airborne and became an Ordained Minister of Jehovah's Witness in October of 1985. He faithfully carried on his preaching and teaching about Jehovah's established Kingdom as the only hope for mankind up to the time of his passing. Delcarpio of Slidell passed away on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at her home in Slidell. Florence was born on Feb. 20, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Mich., and moved to Slidell in 1969. She married her beloved husband of 37 years, William M. Delcarpio, a retired Bellsouth Telephone employee, on her birthday in 1971. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Olson, who died in 1967. She worked for a short time at Methodist Hospital in New Orleans, however she decided to retire and raise her five children whom survive her: Thomas J. Olson, Candace R. Olson, Neil S. Olson, Mary V. Sarduy and Joseph T. Olson. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Victoria and Stanley Zyskowski. She is also survived by her sister, Doris King, and her brothers, Stanley and Ron Zyskowski. Florence was very active with her husband in the B.P.O.E. activities which she served as Lady President, and the Palm Lake Angler's Club socials in Slidell. She also enjoyed playing golf, bowling at Bowling USA and fishing with her husband. She will be sadly missed as a companion. He was born December 19, 1947 to the late Kathleen McCoullough and Max J. Derbes, Jr. in New Orleans, LA and has been a resident of Covington since 1960. He graduated from St. Paul's High School in 1965 where he was student council president for both his junior and senior years. He received his B.A. in Administrative Sciences from Yale University in 1969. He was also captain of the Yale judo team and won the Connecticut State Championship in 1968. Max was a loving and devoted husband of 42 years to Julianne Pott Derbes and is survived by three children: Alexander Benjamin Derbes, Zachary John Derbes, Christina Claire Derbes; one brother, David Stephen Derbes and two grandchildren, Mia Marie Derbes and Max Benjamin Derbes and daughter in law Kelly Marie Derbes. He will remain in their hearts as a great and loving husband, father, brother and grandfather forever. As President of Max J. Derbes, Inc., his life work was in the Real Estate Industry. He was actively involved in the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, Counselors of Real Estate, CCIM, the Elmwood Business Association and Legatus Northshore. Max won numerous awards over his career in Real Estate, most recently was the top overall industrial agent by volume for 2007 and handled the largest industrial real estate transaction during that year. COL. ROBERT M. "BOB", SR Lt. Col. Robert M. "Bob" Gambrell Sr., U.S. Air Force, retired, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, from complications of diabetes. He was the beloved husband for the past 40 years of Elizabeth Underwood Gambrell. He was the father of Michael Gambrell (Laine) of Slidell, Maj. Robert M. Gambrell Jr. (Kelly) of Ft. Polk, Sandra Welter of Lakewood, Ohio, Catherine Lindsay (Pete) of Goodbee, Paula Haefner (Don) of Mandeville, Anne Shay (Doug) of Corinth, Texas, and Tina Gambrell of Metairie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene Gwin and Leslie Gambrell Sr., and his brother, Leslie Gambrell Jr. He was the brother-in-law of Dan Underwood (Virginia) of McDonough, Ga., and Paula Barry of Houston. He was the loving grandfather to 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a native of Mobile, Ala., and a longtime resident of Slidell. At the beginning of WWII, he entered the U.S. Army Aviation Cadet Program , and upon completion of flight training served in Europe with the 349 Troop Carrier Group until the end of hostilities. He remained in the Air Force for 25 years, serving in different countries around the world. He continued to fly after retirement, teaching instrument flying to Army pilots going to Vietnam and then flew helicopters for Chevron Oil Co. for another 15 years. He was a longtime active member of First United Methodist Church of Slidell and the Slidell Noon Lions Club. He was a Slidell Memorial Hospital Hospice volunteer and a member of Pinewood Country Club, where he enjoyed many happy hours playing golf with the ROB's. He was a member of the Ozone Camellia Club, the Camellia Club of New Orleans and the Camellia Club of Mobile and a certified judge of the American Camellia Society. Growing camellias for show was a favorite hobby. Bob was admired as well by all who knew him for his zest for living and the courage and good cheer he showed throughout his long illness. He was a member of the Local Ironworkers No. 58 and the Police Mutual Benevolence Association, and he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also received his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University, graduating with distinction. Jere was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as Captain and continued to serve in the USAF Reserves. During his successful business career, Jere held various senior executive positions and served on the board of directors with numerous industrial companies and financial institutions. He served as Chief Executive Officer of Newpark Resources, Republic Drilling, Halter Marine, Rice Capital Corporation, and Imperial West Chemical Company. Jere most recently served as Chairman and Chief Restructuring Officer of the Babcock & Wilcox Company and Director of Geneva Steel, Qualitech Steel Holdings, and C.F. Bean Companies. Jere achieved numerous entrepreneurial successes, including the development and opening of four Ruth's Chris restaurants in Indianapolis (2) and Notre Dame, IN and St. Louis, MO. He was a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), where he served as director. Jere was truly a captain of industry and will be sorely missed as a trusted advisor. Jere was a long-time resident and board member of Tchefuncte Club Estates. He was a parishioner and Senior Warden of Christ Church and chaired the Search and Finance Committees. Jere was a life-long car and boat enthusiast, racing cars in his youth, and enjoying spending time with his family and friends on his boats "Foolish Pleasure" and "Livin' Large". He was a board member with the Madisonville Maritime Museum. Mike was born on December 28,1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a graduate of Sam Barthe School and De LaSalle High School in New Orleans, and received the degrees of Bachelor of Arts in English from Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, Louisiana, Master of Fine Arts from the Goodman School of Theater in Chicago, and Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law. While at Goodman, he was honored as best amateur actor in Chicago, and he later toured with the National Shakespeare Company, playing many roles, including the lead in Antony and Cleopatra. He later was Assistant to the Director of the Duke University Press, and, upon graduation from law school, engaged in private law practice in North and South Carolina, and for many years was a Claims Consultant with The Hartford in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to his most recent illness, he was a language arts teacher at the Estill Middle School near Hampton, South Carolina, where he was honored last year for outstanding progress of his students. Mike was larger than life, and had a great sense of humor. He loved and cared for people, especially his family and students, lovingly cared for his mother during her last illness, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
