He was 57. He was the father of Jennifer Tensley (Joey), Norman Abney (Brooke) and James Abney(Kristen); son of the late Wilbert N. "Scrappy" Abney and Sylvia Jemison Abney; and brother of Sam Abney (Cynthia), Bruce Abney (Jaynee), Amelia "Bootsie" Nores (Gerald), and the late Charlotte Abney. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Oliver Gunnar Tensley, Tyler Alan Abney, Haley Nicole Abney and Cameron Leigh Abney. A native and lifelong resident of Slidell, he was the owner of the Slidell bar called "The Fish" and an avid LSU fan. He is survived by his wife, Helen Alexander of Covington; one daughter, Melodie (Bernard) Penn of Covington; six sons, Carnel (Barbara) Alexander Sr. of Alton, Ill.; Sandy Alexander of Palmdale, Calif.; Deon Alexander Sr. of Mandeville; Percy (Pam) Alexander Jr. of Atlanta, Texas; Bryan (Stacy) Alexander Sr. of Covington; and Adrian (Donna) Alexander of Covington; one sister, Mathilda Fulton of Mandeville; 27 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Miller Francis Armstrong III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and priest passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at 12:10 p.m. at home in Baton Rouge, with his family by his side. He was 80. Father Armstrong's life was a beautiful passion of lifelong service to his family and all who crossed his path. He began as a priest in 1953 and was rector at St. Paul's Holy Trinity in New Roads for 28 of his 55 years of service. He was born November 27, 1927 in Searight (Covington County), Alabama, the son of Exer Phillips and Alfred Bozeman. He was a Chaplain's Aid in the U. S. Army in Hawaii from 1946-1948. He was a graduate of Dozier High School, received an A.B. from Samford University in Birmingham, AL, a B.D., Master of Divinity, Master of Religious Education, Specialist in Religious Education, and EDD in Psychology and Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Welby was married August 28, 1960 to Jeanine Cannon of Dozier, AL. He was pastor of churches in Alabama from 1950 - 1967 (New Hope Baptist Church, Dozier Baptist Church while concurrently serving as Principal of Dozier High School, and Westside Baptist Church in Elba, Alabama). In Louisiana, he was Pastor of First Baptist Church of Chalmette and Tangipahoa Baptist Church in Tangipahoa. He was Professor of New Testament and Religious Education at Louisiana College in Pineville, LA from 1982-2000. After retirement, he served as interim pastor for numerous churches in LA and was currently serving at Grace Baptist Church in Folsom, LA. Welby had a life-long interest in vegetable gardening, fishing and shrimping, reading biographies, maintaining physical fitness, and he never lost his love of learning. He lost his lengthy battle with Chron's Disease on March 18, 2008 in Slidell at Northshore Regional Medical Center. He was 51 years old. He is survived by Susan Edmonston, his wife of 29 years; his children, Andrew Allen Edmonston, 25, Robert James Edmonston, 24, Dawnelle Marcia Edmonston, 22, and Michael John Edmonston, 20. He is also survived by his father, James Matthew Edmonston Sr.; his sisters, Thereasa Edmonston Welch and Diane Edmonston Johansen, and several nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Voncil Snelgrove Edmonston; his stepmother, Carolyn Palmer Edmonston; a son, James Matthew Edmonston III; and a daughter, Maria Ann Edmonston. During his college years he was a radio disc jockey in Ruston and Hammond. He was in the U.S. Navy for seven-and-one-half years as a fire control technician and achieved the rank of E-6, first class petty officer. He served on the USS Woodrow Wilson ballistic submarine SSBN 624 for most of his career. After being given an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1986, he worked as an electronics technician at several manufacturing plants before beginning to work offshore as an offshore electrician. During high school and before working offshore he was active in the local drama theatres, Playmakers and Slidell Little Theatre. A private memorial service was held March 22 at Pearl River United Methodist Church in Pearl River. His body was donated to science. The Archdiocese of New Orleans awarded him the Order of St. Louis Commendation. Prior to retirement Mr. Fargason served in an executive capacity in a variety of companies including New Orleans Cold Storage (NOCS), Superior Casing Crews, and owner/CEO of Royal Lincoln Mercury in Gulfport, Mississippi. While living in Gulfport, Mr. Fargason was elected President of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce and assisted in founding the Harrison County Tourism Commission. Mr. Fargason was a man of many talents and interests. Among his favorite hobbies were raising his daughters, sailing, reading, cooking, storytelling, and racing cars. Bill was born January 23, 1923, in Catonsville, Maryland, and had just celebrated his 85th birthday at a surprise party given by all his children and grandchildren. Bill lived at Christwood Retirement Community, where he was blessed with many wonderful friends, as well as all of the caring staff at Christwood. Prior to his move to Covington ten years ago, he had lived on the Westbank of New Orleans for 25 years. Bill grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee, attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans, and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at UT, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He began his career with General Electric and spent his 42-year career with GE as a power transformer sales engineer, living in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He retired in 1985 as the District Manager of the New Orleans sales office. He was an active volunteer throughout his life in various capacities and locales. He was actively involved in the Elfun Society, a volunteer organization of General Electric executives. He also devoted time to his church, most recently Christ Church, Covington, and previously St. Philips Episcopal Church, New Orleans. He was an avid golfer and very involved with the Louisiana Seniors Golf Tour. He loved to travel, and he journeyed over waters near and far. Bill is survived by his wife of 10 years, Erin Sullivan Wohlbruck Garity of New Orleans. He had been married to Jean Mitchell Garity of North Rose, NY, for 43 years until her death in 1991. He is also survived by three daughters, one son, three stepsons and their spouses: Susan & Francisco Zamora (VA), Nancy & Daniel Baker (CT), Cynthia & Joseph Kueck (LA), and William & Chang Garity, Jr. (CO), John Wohlbruck (NY), Jim & Nancy Wohlbruck (NJ), and Eric & Cindy Wohlbruck (TN). Charlie was a church lay leader and Past President of United Methodist Men. Recently he was given a Lifetime Achievement Recognition Award on behalf of the United Methodist Men's Club at First United Methodist Church of Slidell. He was an Eagle Scout and was involved in scouting activities for over 20 years. Throughout his career, Charlie enjoyed working as a salesman, soda "jerk" and Avon dealer. His hobbies included gardening, tennis, hiking, bicycling, square dancing, Mardi Gras festivities, singing in the choir, writing poetry and songs and volunteering at church and the hospital. He was an avid "BAMA" fan and a collector of rocks, keys, sticks, buttons, knives and foreign coins. Charlie lived life to the fullest and humor was a hallmark of his life. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Charles Sansom III. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Catherine; two sons and daughters-in- law, Alan and Ginger Hogue, Mark and Stephanie Hogue; three daughters, Nancy, Pamela, Janis; two sons-in-law, Chris Feucht, Bob McCoy; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was the first baby born into Kings Highway Christian Church in Shreveport, LA and was the Louisiana State Doubles Tennis Champion during her high school days at Byrd High School. Her adult life was spent as a devoted Christian, wife and Mother. She was a Sunday School teacher, award-winning floral arranger, Heart Fund Volunteer, Scout Leader and PTA member. Her life was truly spent in service to others. After moving to Abita Springs, LA in 1993 and the death of her husband in 1994, she continued her volunteerism by working for Meals on Wheels with her daughter Pamela. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Concerned Care Hospice for their nurturing care of both Mrs. McIntosh and her entire family. Without their devotion, it would not have been possible for her to remain at home during her final months. Lois L. Meyer, 87, Slidell, formerly of Lake Mills, Wis., died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell. She was born on Dec. 2, 1920, in Lake Mills, the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Schrank) Gottschalk. Lois married George E. Meyer of Lake Mills on Nov. 16, 1940, at Dubuque Iowa. He died on Nov. 19, 1998. She was a graduate of the Lake Mills High School, class of 1937. She then graduated from the Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee in 1938. Lois was employed as a secretary for the State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture until her retirement. She was a longtime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Lois was a past president of the Clarence Bean-Warren George Post No. 67 of the Lake Mills American Legion Auxiliary. She also had served as president of the State Child Welfare Committee. Survivors include one son, Donald (Maureen) Meyer of Medway, Mass.; three daughters, Evelyn (Michael) Drake of Yorktown, Va., Jean (Richard) Lamrouex of Bowie, Md., and Lorraine (Charles) Nahmens of Lacombe; and 10 grandchildren, John (Crystal), James and Jeffrey Lamrouex, Jeannette (Timothy) Jumbelick, Deborah (Ronald) Crain, Douglas (Ellen) McBride, Michelle ( Douglas) Richardson, Kimberly (Michael) Martinez and Lynn and Mary Nahmens; eight great- grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of the late Rev. Dr. Donald W. Minton and mother of James Lockhart Minton of Fairhope, Ala., and Donell Minton Williams of Slidell. She owned and operated Champagne's Department Store in Old Towne Slidell, which was established in 1937 by her parents. It remained open for more than 50 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Bayou Liberty Garden Club and the 50 Year Club of Slidell High School. Mr. Pertuit, born in New Orleans Jan. 2, 1916, was a lifelong resident until his move to Slidell 12 years ago. Mr. Pertuit proudly served his country during World War II from November 1940 until December 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy as a permanently appointed Chief Petty Officer, Aviation Electrician. He was there at Pearl Harbor on that fateful day. Mr. Pertuit was the sole owner and proprietor of Standard Broom and Mop Manufacturing Co. in New Orleans for over 50 years. He was also a former member and Past Master of the Fidelity Lodge in New Orleans. Mr. Pertuit is survived by his loving wife of 59 years and his sole "caregiver" for the past few years, Frances Smith Pertuit; children Jean Knight (Andy), Jane Cormier (Jay), George Pertuit Jr. (Adana) and Jack Pertuit (Sonya); grandchildren Jeff Singley (Necole), Chris Singley, Leslee Flowers (Myron), Kyle Cormier, Rachael, Michelle and Natalie Pertuit; step grandchild Trenton Knight; great grandchildren Avery and Reagan Flowers and Savannah Singley. She attended Covington High School and devoted 20 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse to patients at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Bush and beloved by family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Charlotte Thomas Harwood and Cheryl Lee Thomas; her son, Ronnie Edwin Thomas; two grandchildren, Vanessa Ann Thomas and Stephanie Elaine Thomas; four great-grandchildren, Madison Leigh, Ethan Joseph, Alyssa Marie and MacKenzie Lynn; a sister, Mary Loyd; and a brother, David Fauntleroy.
