Annie "Stella" Tabor Arceneaux passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008.

She was born September 17, 1927 to the late Annie Barradell and Raoul Tabor. The 
beloved wife of the late Elgin L. Arceneaux, Sr., she is survived by one 
daughter, April A. Mayo; one son, Elgin L., Jr.; one sister, Margaret T. 
Melancon and four grandchildren: Marylin A. and Carl J. Mayo, Richard L. and 
Jonathan L. Arceneaux. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian T. 
Arceneaux and Dorothy T. Batemps and a brother, Louis Tabor.

A native of Thibodeaux, she was a resident of New Orleans since 1944, a devoted 
parishioner at Immaculate Heart of Mary in New Orleans East and a member of the 
Blue Army of Mary.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass on 
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home 
2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

Visitation will begin Tuesday at 9:30 AM.

Interment will follow mass at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.

BARLOW RONALD DAVID 
(April 27, 1917 - April 3, 2008)

Ronald David Barlow passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008.

Beloved husband of Winifred Harris Barlow. Brother of the late Lillian James and 
Hilda Bates. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Aged 90 years, a native of Salford, England and a resident of Mandeville, LA for 
the past 39 years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services 
on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New 
Hampshire, Covington, LA 70433.

Amelia Blanche Beatmann passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2008 after a brief 
illness.

Beloved daughter of Arthur James Beatmann and Reyne Abadie Beatmann; sister of 
Jude Beatmann; and granddaughter of Emile Pat and Helen Abadie and the late 
Wilfred "Pete" and Blanche Beatmann. She is also survived by numerous Aunts, 
Uncles and Cousins.

Age 22 years, a native and lifelong resident of Mandeville, LA. A graduate of 
Fontainbeau High School, she attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans, 
LA. She was a Kitchen Manager at Petunia's Place in Mandeville, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass on 
Monday, April 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 
Lafitte Street, Mandeville, LA 70488.

Visitation on Monday will begin at 9:30 AM at the church.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, 2280 West 21st Avenue,

Gordon Lane Blundell died on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his home in Mandeville, 
LA after a two month illness.

He was born March 3, 1928 in Long Island, NY. He attended Warren Easton High 
School, Tulane University and served the United States Navy in 1946-1947. He was 
a resident of Metairie, LA for much of his life, having also lived in Jackson, 
MS, Atlanta and San Francisco during his lifetime career with Colgate Palmolive 
Company. He moved to Mandeville upon his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed life as 
an avid antique collector, horticulturist, golfer, sports enthusiast, nature-
loving fisherman and hunter, but most of all, as a proud father. He had recently 
celebrated his 80th birthday and 59th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne Reinhardt Blundell; his children: 
Gordon Lane Blundell, Jr., Wade Patrick Blundell and Bonnie Blundell Goeller; 
one sister, Virginia Blundell Simpson; eight dear grandchildren: Gordon L. 
Blundell, III, Eric Charles Blundell, Reid Marshall Blundell, Weston Wells 
Blundell, Christian Penn Oser, Bria Blundell Goeller, Anne Morgan Blundell, 
Harman Beccah Goeller and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 
parents, Gordon and Frances Noseworthy Blundell; one daughter, Rebecca Blundell 
Oser and his sister, Joan Blundell Davis.

His family will hold a private memorial service.

BROCATO, STELLA JENKINS 

Stella Jenkins Brocato, 53, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in Bogalusa.

Stella was a native of Independence and a resident of Folsom.

She was the beloved wife of Angelo Brocato; mother of the late Kimberly Jenkins; 
sister of Annette Jenkins and the late Jewel Edgar Jenkins, Preston Jenkins, 
Elizabeth Oalman and Mary Sharp; and daughter of the late Bertha Carlise and 
Nick Jenkins.

She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews.

Religious services were held at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home of Covington, on 
Thursday, April 10, 2008. Interment was in Willie Cemetery.

M. Mable Hulin Broussard passed away on Thursday, April. 10, 2008.

Known by most as "Nannie", she was the beloved mother of Steven K. Broussard and 
his wife Katherine, Carolyn B. Briggs and her husband David and Deborah B. 
Penney and her husband Reginald; sister of Edmund Hulin, Sr., J.D. Hulin and M. 
Sable H. Beadle (twin). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 9 great-
grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Broussard, 
Jr.; her mother, Etacia Norris Hulin; her father, Giles Hulin; three brothers, 
Preston, Dauras, and Aulton Hulin; and a sister, Laura H. Broussard.

Age 81 years, she was a native of Jefferson Island, LA and a resident of 
Covington, LA for the past 26 years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
on Monday, April 14, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral 
Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

CABALLERO, HERBERT "CABBIE" W., SR

Herbert "Cabbie" W. Caballero Sr. passed away Tuesday April 8, 2008, at the age 
of 94.

Herbert was a native of Mobile, Ala., but lived most of his life in New Orleans. 
He was residing in Slidell for the past nine years.

He was the husband of the late Katherine Marsalis Caballero and father of 
Herbert Caballero Jr. and Katherine Caballero Guttierrez. He was the grandfather 
of Donald Rene Luminais Jr., Erin Elizabeth Luminais and Marsal DeMarigny 
Luminais. He was the great-grandfather of Michael Zucconi, Corey Crawford, Jacob 
Luminais, Ada Luminais, Camille Luminais, Danielle Davis, Thomas Luminais and 
Mark Davis.

During his life, he owned and operated Caba's Hobby Corner in Metairie. Herbert 
is a Past Master of Albert Pike Lodge, Past Grand Royal Patron, Order of the 
Amaranth, State of Louisiana, Past Worthy Patron, Order of the Eastern Star and 
a member of the Knight's Templar. He was very active in the Masonic Youth 
organizations, including the Order of the DeMolay, Order of the Rainbow and the 
Job's Daughters.

A private memorial service was held Saturday April 12, 2008, in Slidell.

Gregory Brian Coogan, born on February 14, 1954, passed away at his home after a 
long illness on April 21, 2008.

Beloved son of Constance C. Coogan and the late Gerard F. Coogan. Brother of 
Deborah Ann Coogan, Keith Paul Coogan and Gerard F. Coogan, Jr. Brother-in-law 
of Diane and Kimberly Coogan. Uncle of Nicole and Victoria Tripi, Chrissy, 
Kacey, Abigail, Alexandra and Ann Coogan. Also survived by many cousins.

Age 54 years. A native of New Orleans, LA, lived most of his life in River Ridge 
and his final days in Covington, LA.

Johnie Younger Cook passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2008. 

She was born January 6, 1930 in Eupora, MS to the late Barney D. and Exa 
Hightower Younger, was raised in Mayersville, MS and has been a resident of 
Mandeville since 1993.

The beloved wife of John G. Cook for 56 years, she is survived by one daughter, 
Connie C. DeGenova and her husband Thomas; three grandsons: John T., Matthew L. 
and Andrew P. DeGenova all of Kenner, LA and her sister, Barney Jean Allen of 
Clinton, MS. One sister, Mary Ray Davis preceded her in death.

Johnie graduated from the Mississippi State College for Women and taught English 
for a short time until she met her soul mate, John. She moved with him and his 
career with Halliburton Services around the country for 41 years making friends 
and devoting herself to her family. She was very proud of her family, especilly 
her three grandsons and their many accomplishments. She was also an active 
member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church and a former member of P.E.O.

Gayle E. Cooper, 77, of Slidell, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008, at 
Slidell Memorial Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Cooper for 58 years.

She was the mother of Larry G. Cooper and wife Debbie, Brenda C. Vercher and 
Cherry C. Martin and husband Rick; daughter of the late Robert A. Edwards and 
Montye Davis Edwards; sister of Robert K. Edwards, Ann E. Shumate and the late 
Rudolph Edwards, Nell Buie, Pauline Edwards and Laverne Edwards; and grandmother 
of Kimberly McDonald, Heather Frost, Cresta Bledsoe, Jeremy Cooper, Rebecca 
Daniels, the late Stephen Martin, Sam Martin, Katie Vercher, Nathan Cooper, 
Pamela Babers and Jeffrey Hettinger. She is also survived by 12 great-
grandchildren.

A native of Pontotoc, Miss., and a resident of Slidell since 1962, Mrs. Cooper 
was a retired real estate broker. Along with her husband Robert, Mrs. Cooper was 
a member of First Baptist Church in Slidell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nevis Crockett, Sr.; a son, Kevin 
Nelson Hunt; her mother, Grace Heck Jenkins; her father, Albert Jenkins; two 
sister, Inez Voss and Hazel Hunt; and two brothers, Warren Jenkins and Hebert 
Jenkins.

Age 80 years, she was a native and lifetime resident of Covington, LA.

On Sunday, April 13, 2008, Elois Evelyn Dammann, age 82, of Slidell, passed 
away.

She is survived by four sons, Ervin Gras, Ernest Lightell and Emile and Edwin 
Dammann; three daughters, Evelyn Penton, Eloise Smith and Elaine Penton; one 
brother, Wilber Swander; two sisters, Annie Campo and Lilly Swander; 22 
grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 18, from the chapel of D.T. Williams 
Funeral Home, 67525 Highway 41, Pearl River. Bro. Alvin Waller officiated. 
Interment was in Pearl River Cemetery.

Betty Drury, of Covington, Louisiana, passed away April 23, 2008 from liver 
cancer in LaGrange, Georgia.

She is survived by her step-daughter, Stepahnie D. Hall, her children, Betsy D. 
Kourkounis of Ocean Springs, MS, Jim Drury of New Orleans, LA, Marc Drury of Los 
Angeles, CA, Tom Drury of LaGrange, GA and Maggie Drury of LaGrange, GA, as well 
as her sister, Patricia Q. Brandon of Bronxville, NY, and her brother, William 
T. Quinn of Portland, OR. She is also survived by several grandchildren 
including: Erin Kourkounis, Quinn Kourkounis, Matthew Lewis, Anne Elise Lewis, 
James Drury Gonsoulin, Andrew Drury, Billy Drury, Tommy Drury, and Lucy Drury.

Betty worked throughout the New Orleans, Covington, and the Mississippi Gulf 
Coast in a variety of capacities including Medical Technologist, Interior 
Designer, Marketing Director, and with the St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce. 
She never met a stranger, and everyone who knew her instantly fell in love with 
her warmth and unique charm. Each and every one of her friends became family to 
her, and her love for them remained steadfast in her heart throughout her life.

A memorial mass and celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 
at 2:00 PM from the church at St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Rd., Covington, LA 
70435.

Visitation will begin 12:30 PM.

Interment will follow mass at Pinecrest Memorial gardens in Covington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Saint Clare's Monastery

Madelyn Lastras Egan 'muffined' on Monday, April 7, 2008 after a long, hard, 
courageous battle with Leukemia.

A kindergartner at Pontchartrain Elementary School, Madelyn was a life resident 
of Covington.

She was born May 30, 2001 to John J. and Gaylynn Englade Egan and is survived by 
her sister, Bridgette C. Egan; two brothers, Dylan M. and Ryan M. Egan and her 
grandparents, Amery J. and Joyce Bruce Englade. She was also the granddaughter 
of the late Joseph J. and Veronica Mangan Egan.

Join the family at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave., Covington, LA 
70433 to celebrate a Funeral Mass on Friday, April 11, 2008 at 11:00 AM.

Wake services will be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home 2260 W. 21st Ave., 
Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, April 10, 2008 from 6:00-10:00 PM with 
visitation Friday at the Church beginning at 9:30 AM.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Olga Ojeda Estopinal; her father, 
Wilbert Estopinal, Sr.; brothers, Adrian, Louis, Paul and Arthur Estopinal; and 
sisters, Helen E. Brooks and Ruth and Paula Estopinal.

Age 79 years. A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Pineville, LA most 
of her life.

Vivian Fricke Faciane, 89, of Slidell, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the 
Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.

She was the beloved wife of the late Norman B. Faciane; mother of Ethel F. and 
Ralph Friend and Norma Jean F. Gates; sister of Bert J. and Lou Fricke, the late 
Clyde M. and Archie Fricke; grandmother of Kimberly Bentz, Karen and Gregg 
Dobbs, Michael and Chelci Gates and Susan and Rusty Luker and three great-
grandchildren: Ryan Page, Cory Bentz and Kyle Luker.

She was sister-in-law of Anna Fricke, Janie Fricke, Francis Faciane, Yvonne 
Galatas, Ethel Faciane, Edwina Posey, Doris Frizzell, Raymond Faciane, Rev. 
Lawrence and Sue Faciane and Roland Faciane. She is also survived by a host of 
nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Faciane was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Fricke, and 
her in-laws, Max and Estelle Faciane. Mrs. Faciane was loved by all at Consolata 
Home in New Iberia for her kindness and love she had for others.

A native and lifelong resident of Slidell, she was a retired bus driver for the 
St. Tammany School System.

at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery) Monday at 
11 a.m. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Slidell. Visitation is Monday

FISHER, WILLIAM B. "BILL" 

William B. "Bill" Fisher, 91, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, 
at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Eloise Fisher for 68 years; father of Ermilee 
Figueroa and William H. Fisher (Karen); and brother of Charles L. Fisher and the 
late George Fisher.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ermilisa F. Shipp, William B. 
Figueroa, Linda Figueroa, Stephanie Fisher and Rebecca Roth, and seven great-
grandchildren.

A native of New Orleans and a longtime former resident of Lacombe, Mr. Fisher 
was a retired steel worker for Service Foundry, Dibert, Bancroft and Ross and 
Avondale Ship Yard in New Orleans. He served his country as a U.S. Navy Seabee 
in WWII. He was a member of the VFW, Lacombe Post and the Fleet Reserve.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery) at noon 
today. Visitation will be on from 9 a.m. until noon.

FONTANA, ROSALIE "SALENA" CAROLLO 

Rosalie "Salena" Carollo Fontana died Wednesday evening, April 16, 2008.

She was the beloved wife of the late Luke Fontana Sr.

Salena was a co-owner of St. Christopher's Curve Inn Restaurant on old U.S. 
Highway 11 in Slidell for over 40 years. The Curve Inn was managed by Nick 
(Ignacio) and Matti (Matteo) Sansone. Salena and her husband were also co-owners 
of the Arcade Theatre in Olde Towne Slidell, along with co-owners Russell (Cy) 
and wife Ruby Fogg Carollo. The Arcade Theatre is now listed on the National 
Register of Historic Places.

Selena was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, dating back to 
its original location on First Street.

Salena is survived by her three children, Lucille Fontana Brennan, Nina Fontana 
Leonard and Luke Fontana Jr.; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also 
survived by her sisters, Louise Carollo and Sister Mary Ann Carollo, O.S.B.

Salena was preceded in death by five brothers, Frankie, Russell (Cy), Charlie, 
Peter and Victor Carollo, and one sister, Mary Carollo Siemssen.

Mrs. Fontana was one of the earliest residents of the area that eventually 
became known as Slidell's historic "Old Towne." She was born on Carey St. on 
June 29, 1906. Her father, Andrea "Papa" Carollo, was the owner of Carollo's 
Grocery Store on the corner of Robert Street and Carey Street, the site of what 
is now the favorite Olde Towne restaurant, K.Y.'s. Andrea Carollo was also 
original owner of the Arcade Theatre.

Salena's pre-deceased sister, Mary Siemssen, operated the Novelty Shop on Carey 
Street with her husband, Roy Siemssen, in the 1940's through the 1960's. 
Salena's two brothers, Peter and Victor Carollo, became proprietors of their 
father Andrea Carollo's grocery store after their return from active duty during 
WWII. Victor eventually opened Carollo's Supermarket in Lacombe. Salena's other 
brother, Charlie, was the owner-operator of Carollo's Furniture Store on First 
Street, and he later became a prominent Slidell landowner and developer.

After the 1963 death of her husband, Luke Fontana Sr., Salena became alarmed 
over the deterioration and abandonment of her beloved Olde Towne Slidell. She 
began to slowly and quietly purchase some of the fading properties in order to 
keep them maintained. Salena was one of the original key players in bringing 
back Olde Towne Slidell.

Salena's only son Luke Fontana Jr. is the executive attorney and founder of Save 
Our Wetlands Inc. Luke Fontana Jr. states: "I owe my love of nature to my 
Mother. She was a gentle soul, always working in the green green garden of peace 
... an original flower child. Slidell is fortunate my mother blessed all of us for 
so many years."

A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 
1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell, Saturday, April 19. Interment followed in Our Lady 
of Lourdes Catholic Church Cemetery, Slidell.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Our Lady of Lourdes 
Rebuilding Fund.

Madeline Martha Galloway passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2008.

Beloved sister of Hubert and Houston Galloway, Lydia Sharp and Louise Dawsey. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.W. Galloway and Alice Fitzmorris 
Galloway; a brother, Herbert Galloway; and a sister, Nora Dart.

Age 78 years, a native and lifelong resident of Covington, LA, she retired from 
Bellsouth Telephone Company after 25 years of service.

GARRETSON, JOSEPH RANDOLPH, III 

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Joseph Randolph Garretson III, known as Joe Boy, 
passed away. He was a native and lifelong resident of Pearl River. He was born 
on Aug. 4, 1939.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman his entire life.

Joe Boy was a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Delphine Cooper Garretson; a son, Jason 
R. Garretson and his wife, Stephanie; a daughter, Lacie G. Lingo and her 
husband, Billy Lingo. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Madison Lingo, 
Sophia Lingo and Tristan Pyles, and four sisters, Eldress Hankins, Fleeta 
Sadler, Lottie Harper and Vonnie Evans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph R. and Eldress Garretson II, and 
two brothers, Willy Garretson and Eugene Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11 a.m. from the 
chapel of D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Highway 41, Pearl River.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time.

Interment to follow at Crawford Cemetery, Pearl River. The Rev. Haskell Dunn

Trobie E Ginn, 74, died March 31, 2008, at his residence. 

He was born Jan. 20, 1934, in New Orleans.

He was preceded in death by his parents Trobie E. Ginn Sr. and Mary Vaultz Ginn, 
and one brother, Robert Davillier of Slidell.

He is survived by one sister, Isabell Ginn Jenkins and brother-in-law Claude Ray 
Jenkins of Slidell, three sons, Carlos Andre Ginn of Oklahoma and Dwayne F. Ginn 
and Derrick E. Ginn of Slidell; and one daughter, Daphne C. Ginn of Slidell. He 
is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He will be missed by many family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Hartzell United 
Methodist Church, Slidell. Visitation/viewing is from 9-11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Officiating pastor will be 
the Rev. Ernest Scott.
Interment will be at Harrison Cemetery off of U.S. Highway 190 E. in Slidell. 
Repass will be at the Hartzell United Methodist Church.

Joyce Van Hazard, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2008 at her 
Covington home.

Leatrice V. Schmitt and August A. Van, Jr (Myrle). Also lovingly remembered by 
nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by 
her husband, John J. Hazard, Jr.; her mother, Emma Acosta Van; her father, 
August A. Van, Sr; and her daughter-in-law, Michele T. Hazard.

Age 83 years, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Covington, LA for 
the past 27 years. She was a longtime member of the North Wilshire Heights 
Garden Club and received many awards for her floral designs. Many special thanks 
to her sitters, Chesney and Ms. Levada, the staff of Alpha House, the staff of 
St. Tammany Parish Hospital and Hospice; and during her final days Cathy and 
Literria.

James B. Hendry Jr., 77, of Slidell, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 
Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Shirley Rettig Hendry for 26 years; father of 
Cassity Hendry Caire and her husband Danny M. A. Caire; son of the late James B. 
Sr. and Charlotte Hendry; and brother of Myrna "Cookie" Abbott and husband Don 
Abbott of Estill Springs, Tenn..

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Chanse, Shae and Brielle Caire; one 
niece, Sandra Weddington; and two nephews, Dale and Danny Abbott.

A native of Harvey, Ill., and a resident of Slidell for many years, Hendry was a 
retired quality control inspector for Stennis Space Center. He served his 
country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the American 
Legion Post 185 of Slidell. 

Along with his wife, James was a member of Thompson Road Baptist Church in 
Slidell.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at Thompson Road Baptist Church, 59008 Highway 433, Slidell, at 11:30 a.m. 
today. Visitation will be at church from 10-11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in

HEWLETT, ADA LIGIA GOMEZ DIOTTAU DE 

Ada Ligia Gomez Diottau de Hewlett, beloved, cherished mother and grandmother 
and devoted wife, died Sunday, March 30, 2008, surrounded by family in Austin, 
Texas. 

Born on July 8, 1917, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, Ada attended public school in 
Puerto Rico and Canada and acquired a bachelor's degree in English and French 
from the University of Puerto Rico. Ada began a professional career as a French 
high school teacher in Puerto Rico and later trained as an administrative 
secretary in New York City. During marriage, Ada cared for her family as a 
creative and energetic homemaker, seamstress, chef, taxi-driver, babysitter and 
companion. Family meant the entire world to her.

Whether as a resident of Mobile, Ala., San Juan, Puerto Rico, Houston, Texas, 
New Orleans or Slidell, she was a loyal, treasured neighbor and friend to 
hundreds who were always welcomed in her home.

While in Slidell for over 40 years, she became a dedicated community activist 
for the Alzheimer's Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Women's 
Auxiliary, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Girl 
Scouts and American Red Cross and was a founding member of the Foreign Born 
Wives Club (FWBC).

She is survived by husband, Ozell Hewlett, of 59 years; daughters, Dr. Michele 
Hewlett-Gomez and Jacqueline Hewlett Clifton; grandchildren, Jonathan Clifton, 
Stephen Clifton, Renee Hewlett-Blanchard, all of Austin, Texas; a brother, Dr. 
Herbert Gomez of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; a sister, Guillermina Nadal 
of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, grandnephews 
and grandnieces.

She was preceded in death by parents, Hiram Gomez Cintron and Guillermina 
Diottau Guffain; brothers, RenŽ Gomez, Salvador Gomez and Hiram Gomez; and 
sisters Fedora Hau and Myrta Clyde.

On Monday, April 21, 2008, a celebration of life will begin with visitation at 
9:30 a.m. followed by a mass at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Evangelist Catholic Church 
on 910 Cross Gates Blvd in Slidell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in 
her name to the local FBWC, NARFE, VFW-Women's Auxiliary or Alzheimer's

Clesi, Sr. She re-married years later to the late William H. Howard, Sr. She was 
the loving mother of Sam R. Clesi, Jr., Bobbie Clesi Parta, Joseph I. Clesi and 
Janet Clesi Drivon; mother-in-law of Noelle Clesi, the late Floyd Parta, Barbara 
Clesi and Edmond Drivon. She is survived by 10 grandchildren: Maureen Clesi 
Montalbano, Sam R. Clesi, III, Barbara Parta Ottesen, Sheri Parta Elliott, 
Michelle Clesi Scandaliato, Bryan J. Clesi, Jeffrey, Amy, Jennifer and Sarah 
Drivon and 18 great-grandchildren.

Thomas Hugh "Tommy" Landry, passed away on Friday, April. 11, 2008.

Beloved husband of 48 years of Carol Morse Landry; loving father of Melanie 
Sharp and her husband Louis "Chuck" and Michele Pennington and her husband 
Dustan; grandfather of Kestin Maggio and Hailey and Peyton Pennington. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, K.P. and Amanda Landry and seven 
brothers.

Age 78 years, he was very proud of his Acadian heritage. Tommy was born in 
Rayne, LA and grew up in Kaplan, LA. He spent many years in school at St. 
Anthony's in San Antonio, TX. After serving in the United States Army, during 
the Korean Conflict, he received his bachelor degree from Southwestern Louisiana 
Institute of Liberal and Technological Learning, now known as University of 
Louisiana at Lafayette and a masters degree in education from Loyola University. 
During his first four years of teaching, he met Carol, at Leon Godchaux High 
School in Reserve, 

LA. After moving to Folsom, Carol's home, he spent 48 wonderful years in what he 
would call "God's country". He loved his yard of 400 Azaleas and many other 
flowers. Tommy retired after 20 years of teaching at Covington High School. 

He will be remembered for his years as a chaperone of the senior trips to 
Washington, DC, San Antonio, TX and cruises to Nassau. He served as yearbook 
sponsor and chairman of the Senior Class. One of his favorite responsibilities 
was announcing of the graduates as they received their diplomas.

Many heartfelt thanks to the Doctors and Staff of St. Tammany Parish Hospital, 
especially Dr. Barry Kusnick and Dr. Gregory Groglio, also the staff at 
Lakeshore Hospice.

LANGENHENNIG, DOROTHY DICKS

Dorothy (Ducky) Dicks Langenhennig passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008.

She was born October 3, 1910 to the late Henry Arthur and Mary McGill Dicks and 
was a lifelong resident of Mandeville. 

She was the beloved wife of the late August (Nip) Langenhennig. Having no 
children of her own, she was a mother to two nephews, the late Joseph M. Dicks 
and James A. Dicks, daughter-in-law to Peggy Schoen Dicks. There is a large 
extended family, primarily nieces and nephews, who survive her. 

She was preceded in death by six siblings. 

Ducky will be remembered for her devoted loyalty to her family: loving and 
caring for her husband Nip, her invalid mother for 10 years, raising her sons, 
Jim and Joe, and sharing her many talents as a teacher with so many children at 
Jean Gordon School, even teaching children of our local talent, Terry Flettrich. 

Up until the age of 92, Ducky was very active in life, walking her dog, Bell, 
and going for rides with Joe on the lakefront enjoying the view and watching 
people have fun.

She took great pride in her garden and especially talked of the Magnolia tree 
that Nip planted for her as a gift. Ducky picked designated restaurants to dine 
with family and friends and you had better take to the one she chose that day. 
Jim and Peggy always made sure there was plenty of chocolate (she could eat 
eight pieces at once) and a shrimp po-boy for her eating pleasure. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Pontchartrain Guest House for six 
years of devoted care.

LEITZ, JEMISON "JIM" 

Jemison "Jim" Leitz, 78, of Lacombe, went to his heavenly home on Friday, April 
25, 2008 at Northshore Regional Medical Center, Slidell. 

He was the beloved husband of Maris Pravata Leitz and beloved father of Karen 
Clayton her husband Robert and their five children Rob, Gregory, Katherine, 
Kenneth and Patrick of Ferriday, Deborah Hadaway and her husband Brian, Theresa 
Leitz Ball and her son Michael, James Leitz and his sons Ross, Phillip and 
Stephen, Lisa Charitat her husband Andre and their sons Andre and Brandon and 
Patricia Leitz and her son Maurice Phillip Gaudet. He is also survived by two 
great grandchildren, Zachary and Madelaine. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Jemison and Anthony Leitz, wife 
Palma Scumaci Leitz of McKees Rocks Pa., two brothers Norman and Anthony "Nonie" 
Leitz and three sisters, Mildred McConnon, Dorothy Leitz and Lillian Leonick all 
of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area. 

He served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and 
retired from Chevron-Texaco in 1986 after 30 years as a Helicopter Mechanic.

He loved his ministries; Marriage Encounter, Engaged Encounter, and in more 
recent years, as a lay chaplain in bereavement ministry with his wife Maris. He 
was a charter parishioner of St. John of the Cross Church in Lacombe, his 
cherished church.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of the Northshore since 1973, he was an 
avid Saints, L.S.U., and Tulane Fan. He was a recipient of The Order of St. 
Louis IX award in 1988 from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. His quiet strength 
and gentle ways will be missed by all who loved him.

Catherine Meyer Mauthe passed away at her home in Folsom, LA on Tuesday, April 
1, 2008. 

She was born April 9, 1908 in New Orleans to the late Anna Mayer and Nicholas 
Meyer. 

She and her husband of nearly 50 years worked a dairy farm in New Orleans until 
opening a grocery in 1939. In 1957 they moved their children and business to 
Folsom, LA.

The beloved wife of the late Henry F. Mauthe, Sr., she is survived by one 
daughter, Annabelle M. Labatut; one son, Henry F., Jr.; four grandchildren: 
Randy Mauthe, Cindy H. Hebert, Kathy Mauthe, Kenny Mauthe; 13 great-
grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her 
brother, Jacob A. Meyer.

MELANCON, CLARK L. 

On Sunday, April 6, 2008, Clark L. Melancon of Hammond passed away. He served in 
the U.S. Army and was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Chalmette 
since 1964.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa L. Melancon, son Mark L. Melancon (wife, 
Tomya) and two grandchildren, Kai and Luca Melancon. He is also survived by his 
two step- children, Joseph E. Constance Jr. (wife, Stacey) and Julie C. 
Desselles (husband, Barry), his brother Thomas Melancon Jr. (wife, Magie), seven 
step-children and one great step- grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Bert Melancon, and two sisters, Etta Lou 
Heller and Vira Richard.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke 
Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell with visitation from 9:30 a.m. till

MALTER, KENNETH 

Kenneth Malter, also known as "Ken"and "Big Boe," departed this earthly home on 
Thursday, April 17, 2008.

He was 50 years old. He was a resident of Slidell. He attended St. Tammany Jr. 
High. He was employed as a cook for a short time and also employed by Original 
Tire Co. Kenneth was an easy-going person and was well liked. He enjoyed 
cooking, fishing and working on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Estella Burnett and Louis J. Malter, 
and his sister, Emma Mae Malter.

Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, Louis J. Malter (Felicia) 
and Calvin Malter of Slidell; four nieces, Tracy Pierce (Paul), Gina Williams 
(Lenell), Janice Washington (Eric) and Rheba Boyd; nephews, Johnnie Malter and 
Michael Malter; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He 
will also be missed by his good, longtime friend Manuel Darby.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 9 a.m. Funeral services 
will follow at 11 a.m. at Doyle Funeral Home, 2430 Fourth St. in Slidell. Rev.

MICHNA, DONALD JOSEPH 

Donald Joseph Michna, 78, died April 6, 2008, in Slidell after a one-year battle 
with pancreatic cancer.

He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Rita, and is also survived by sons 
Michael and his wife Karen, Paul of Littleton, Colo., Douglas of Oakland, 
Calif., and Edwin, his wife Catherine of Newport, R.I.; two grandchildren, 
Christopher and Ella; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Candell; 
brothers Robert, James and John and many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia.

Born and raised in Rice Lake, Wis., he then served in the Air Force as an 
airplane mechanic instructor.

Following discharge, he attended college and worked as an aeronautical engineer. 
While living in Colorado.

he was an avid mountaineer and climbed eight of the Colorado Fourteeners. He 
enjoyed running and participating in marathons. He was a licensed private pilot 
and after retiring from Lockheed Martin, he designed and built his own 
Ultralight, which he enjoyed flying cross-country to an annual buddies' reunion 
in Texas.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass at Our Lady of 
Lourdes on Saturday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will begin at 10:a.m.

MOORE, MACK ELREE 

Mack Elree Moore passed away on April 10, 2008.

He was the devoted husband of Trula W. Moore, loving father of Stephen M Moore I 
and Connie L. Moore and proud grandfather of Stephen Moore II and Jessica Moore.

He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Carla Moore, brother, Don Moore, sister, 
Margaret Mahfouz, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Beulah Moore. and a brother, 
Travis Moore.

Moore was born on Sept. 20, 1922, in Noble La. He proudly served his country 
during WW II in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He worked offshore for Texaco 
Oil Co. and later at Michoud Facility, where he was President of the Union. He 
was a longtime member of the Slidell Masonic Lodge, No. 311.

He was a resident of New Orleans for 23 years and a resident of Slidell until 
2005.

Due to Hurricane Katrina he had to move to Hammond.

He will be greatly missed by all. Visitation at Geisler Funeral Home, 1190 
Highway 51 N, Ponchatoula on Sunday, April 13 from noon until the service at 2 
p.m. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Michael Alan Murphy, 79, of Slidell, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008, at 
Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Muriel C. Murphy for 42 years, and the father of 
Megin Ann Murphy, Kathleen Healy Nuber, Timothy John Healy, James Edward Healy, 
Kathleen Murphy and the late Colleen Joyce Healy Lott and Deborah K. Healy 
Entrekin.

He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Murphy was a native of Spokane, Wash., and a resident of Slidell since 1968. He 
served his coutry in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired 
chief chemist for Kaiser Aluminum, and after his retirement he worked for H&R 
Block.

All services are being held privately. Donations to the American Cancer Society 
are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Homer A. Olivier entered into eternal rest in the arms of his loving father on 
Friday, April 18, 2008.

Homer, a resident of Slidell, was 95 and the beloved husband of the late Doris 
Dubuisson Olivier for over 70 years.

He was father of Don Olivier of Lacombe, Bruce Olivier and Lynn Cooley, both of 
Slidell and brother of the late Felix, Jimmy, Jules, Lucille and Billy Olivier, 
Agnes Groh, Frankie Nett and Millie Stockton.

He is also survived by six grandchildren, Steven and David Olivier, Jenee' 
Landry, Renee Olivier, Russell Olivier and Scott Cooley, and four great-
grandchildren, Danielle Olivier, Noah and Payton Landry and Katherine Olivier.

Mr. Olivier was the owner and operator of Olivier Plumbing and Heating in 
Slidell for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell and a 
former member of the Slidell Kiwanis Club.

Miriam T. Palmer, 96, of Slidell died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at her 
residence. 

She was a native of Smithburg, Md., and a resident of Slidell for the past two 
years. Mrs. Palmer was a homemaker and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, 
Chapter No. 70 in Townson, Md. She was the beloved wife of the late William 
Palmer and mother of Tom Palmer of Hagerstown, Md., and Deborah Palmer Chairs of 
Slidell. She was the daughter of the late Matthew and Minnie Kuhn Tracy and 
sister of Florence T. Splanglar of Virginia.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many 
nieces and nephews.

Linda Sue Travis Penton, 48, a resident of Pearl River, passed away Sunday,

of Hawaii; two sons, Shane Penton of Carriere, Miss., and Van Penton of Newport, 
W.V.; and two granddaughters, Anna Leigh Thigpen and Jade Holley Thigpen.

She is also survived by two sisters, Sharon Ann Travis and Buffie Singletary; 
three brothers, James Louis Travis Jr., Joseph Travis and John Crawford; two 
brothers-in-law, Dennis Freeman and Charles Singletary; and one sister-in-law, 
Shonda Travis. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews 
and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Holly Penton; mother, Barbara Ann 
Mabry; father, James Louis Travis Sr.; stepmother, Bernice Travis and niece, 
Suzanna Davis.

Special thanks to her sister, Sharon Ann Travis, brother-in-law Dennis Freeman, 
Aunt Jeannette Singletary, cousins Marie Mitchell and Anita Crowe, who never 
failed to provide loving care.

John Mack Roper, a 20 year resident of Covington, LA and formerly of New 
Orleans, LA, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 4:30 PM.

John was the loving husband of Susan Armand Roper, the best father on earth to 
John Howell Roper and his wife Jennifer O'Brien Roper, Abigail Elizabeth Roper, 
and Christyl Angelle Elizabeth Roper, and grandfather to Spencer Allen Nicholas 
and Madeline McClendon Roper.

Born in Washington, DC, the son of John Howell Roper and Mary Polhill Roper, 
John attended Sidwell Friends School and later earned degrees from Washington & 
Lee University in Lexington, VA, Tulane University of New Orleans and LSU Law 
School in Baton Rouge. John worked as an attorney for Exxon Corporation until 
his retirement.

John is also survived by a sister, Sandra Roper Hardy, and other loving family 
in Florida and Georgia.

Beloved wife of 63 years to Richard Lee Schaus; mother of Daniel R. Schaus and

Schaus and his wife Heather, John Bradley Schaus and his wife Monica and Whitney

Besides her daughter, she was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Lelia 
Hager Head and her father, Birdie Daniel Head.

Age 81 years. A native of Wilmington, CA, she had been a resident of Mandeville, 
LA for the past nine years. Betty owned and operated for several years Village 
Togs in Bonita, CA, she was involved with women's fashions and did numerous 
fashion shows. Once she moved to Mandeville, she became an artist and was 
selected artist of the month, which allowed her the privilege of exhibiting her 
art at the Mandeville City Hall. She was a member of the St. Tammany Art 
Association, a volunteer at Lake Ponchartrain Maritime Museum and was a member 
of Northcross United Methodist Church.

Pamela Jane Shaneyfelt, 61, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at 
Northshore Living Center in Slidell.

She was the beloved mother of Marc A. Crawford and wife Valerie Lauzon Crawford 
and Carla C. Schuler and husband Stephen L. Schuler; daughter of the late Carl 
L. Geiger and Minnie O'Steen Geiger; and sister of George Earl Geiger, Carl 
Louis Geiger and Mary Lynn Bechtel.

She is also survived by four grandchildren; Marc A. Crawford, Jr., Douglas 
Schuler, Jake Crawford and Benjamin Schuler.

A native of New Orleans and a former resident of Violet, Mrs. Shaneyfelt was 
most recently a resident of Slidell. She was a retired administrator for St. 
Bernard Manor.

Sharp and the late Ottis Sharp.

Age 57 years, A native and lifetime resident of Covington, LA. He retired from 
Bellsouth after 35 years of service.

Michelle Fate Slaughter, 30, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008. She was a 
lifelong resident of Pearl River and attended Jesus' Name Apostolic Church in 
Pearl River.

She is survived by her parents, Jo Ann and Richard Bice and John Mitchell 
Slaughter; brother Walter Penton Jr.; two sisters, Gina K. Buras and Stacey 
Marie Simmons; her grandmother, Juanita Bennett; two nephews, Jarrett and 
Daelen; and four nieces, Raven, Katliyn, Megan and Ke'Lea.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Jack Bennett Sr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. from the 
chapel of D. T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Highway 41, Pearl River. A memorial 
service will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Lester Smith Sr. of Pearl River, and two 
daughters, Bernice Smith Jackson of Oloh Community, Miss., and Ethel Dean 
Walters of Pearl River.

She is also survived by her brother, R.C. Miller of Sumrall, Miss.; her sister, 
June Stuckey of Prentice, Miss.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 
22 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Smith; two children, 
Gladys Smith Stringer and Wayne Smith; two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today from the chapel of D.T. Williams 
Funeral Home, 67525 Highway 41, Pearl River.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Rowena Fair Smith, 82, of Slidell, died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Northshore 
Regional Medical Center.

She was a resident of Slidell since 1971.

She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert J. Smith Sr.; mother of Rita S. 
Findorff (Earl), Leonard J. Smith (Donna) and Herbert J. Smith Jr. (Mary); and 
sister of the late Mildred C. Coley.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, E.J. Findorff Jr., Lisa Ann Beach, 
Angela Marie Lange, Jami Lynne Faciane, Melissa Michele Meyers, Megan Ann 
Meyers, Bridgette Ann Smith and Kelly Ann Smith, four great-grandchildren and a 
nephew, Bill L. Stevens of Lufkin, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell, at 2 p.m. 
today.

Albert N. "Paw" Sommers, 76, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008, at his 
residence. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Lacombe for over 11 
years.

He was the beloved husband of Rita B. Sommers for 58 years and father of Rita S. 
VanVrancken (Eddie), Marilyn S. Crawford (Bill), Albert N. Sommers Jr. (Diane), 
Arthur J. Sommers (Donna), Brian J. Sommers (Debbie), and Wayne A. Sommers.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Michelle, Duane, Bill Jr., Kelly, 
Jeffrey, Lisa, Christopher, Kevin, Chad, Jeremy, Brittany, Lauren, Joshua, 
Stephanie and Lindsey, and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon, Meagan, William 
III, Braden, Dylan, Landon, Keelee, and Baby Rice, due in October. He was 
preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Jadyn Rose.

Services were held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel and interment 
followed in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery. The family would like to 
thank Hospice Care of Louisiana/Mississippi for their loving care and concern 
during this difficult time.

C. S. "Sonny" Walle, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2008.

He was born March 11, 1930 in New Orleans to the late Irma Terry and Cornelius 
S. Walle, Sr. and has been a resident of Covington since 1979.

The beloved husband of the late Hazel Davis Walle, he is survived by six 
children: William "Bubba" Wilson, Carol W. Miller, Wanda R. Causin, Jerry Davis, 
Cindy M. Vice, Randy E. Vice; 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 
great-great-granddaughter. He is the brother of Elizabeth Giambronne, Yvonne 
Cancienne and the late Barbara Mason.

From 1954-1991, Sonny was a Bus Operator for New Orleans Public Service, now 
RTA. Prior to his career with NOPSI, he served in the Navy as a seaman in the 
1st Division aboard the Destroyer USS Turner. He was also a football coach at 
Delta Gym in Metairie during the 1970's.

WOOD, RITA YVONNE 

Rita Yvonne Wood, 60, of Macks Creek, Mo., passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 
at her residence. Rita was born March 4, 1948,, in Oklahoma City, Okla., a 
daughter to Emanuel and Elena (Martinez) Gomez.

She was united in marriage to Michael Dale Wood on Feb. 28, 1968.

Rita was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew and 
loved her. She was a longtime resident of Slidell before Hurricane Katrina in 
2005.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Dale Wood. She had five daughters: 
Rochell Wood Kurucar and husband Paul of Picayune, Miss., Margarita Diane Wood 
Lachney (Margie), of Macks Creek, Mo., Claudine Fabre Tardo (Dede) and husband 
Quinn, Marie Odile Klobas (Meme) and husband Ronald, Rita Yvonne Wood (Bonnie) 
and one son Michael Earl Wood of Slidell.: eight grandchildren, Brandi Nicole 
Ward of Slidell, Melissa Lee Kurucar of Picayune, John George Cook V of 
Kentucky, Quinn Anthony Tardo Jr. (Tony), Sam Michael Tardo, Jessica Marie 
Klobas, Ashley Nicole Klobas, Dylan Patrick Suddeth of Slidell.; two sisters 
Margaret Castillo of Warren, Mich., and Rachelle Zajciw of Sterling Heights, 
Mich.; one brother Roger Castillo of Tampa, Fla.; and stepfather of Emilio 
Castillo of Clinton Township, Mich.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by her mother Elena Gomez Castillo; one sister 
Yolanda Horn; one son, Michael Dale Wood Jr.; and one grandson, Mark Ryan 
Martinez.

Funeral services were held in Macks Creek, Mo., on Saturday April 12, 2008, at 
Hedges-Scott Funeral Home. There will be a Service of Resurrection & Victory for 
her honor on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. at The Village Church-Lutheran, 
29180 Highway 190, Lacombe.

Memorials to honor Rita's life are suggested to the American Cancer Society and 
to Community Hospice of America.
