She was born September 17, 1927 to the late Annie Barradell and Raoul Tabor. The beloved wife of the late Elgin L. Arceneaux, Sr., she is survived by one daughter, April A. Mayo; one son, Elgin L., Jr.; one sister, Margaret T. Melancon and four grandchildren: Marylin A. and Carl J. Mayo, Richard L. and Jonathan L. Arceneaux. He was born March 3, 1928 in Long Island, NY. He attended Warren Easton High School, Tulane University and served the United States Navy in 1946-1947. He was a resident of Metairie, LA for much of his life, having also lived in Jackson, MS, Atlanta and San Francisco during his lifetime career with Colgate Palmolive Company. He moved to Mandeville upon his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed life as an avid antique collector, horticulturist, golfer, sports enthusiast, nature- loving fisherman and hunter, but most of all, as a proud father. He had recently celebrated his 80th birthday and 59th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzanne Reinhardt Blundell; his children: Gordon Lane Blundell, Jr., Wade Patrick Blundell and Bonnie Blundell Goeller; one sister, Virginia Blundell Simpson; eight dear grandchildren: Gordon L. Blundell, III, Eric Charles Blundell, Reid Marshall Blundell, Weston Wells Blundell, Christian Penn Oser, Bria Blundell Goeller, Anne Morgan Blundell, Harman Beccah Goeller and many nieces and nephews. Caballero Sr. passed away Tuesday April 8, 2008, at the age of 94. Herbert was a native of Mobile, Ala., but lived most of his life in New Orleans. He was residing in Slidell for the past nine years. He was the husband of the late Katherine Marsalis Caballero and father of Herbert Caballero Jr. and Katherine Caballero Guttierrez. He was the grandfather of Donald Rene Luminais Jr., Erin Elizabeth Luminais and Marsal DeMarigny Luminais. He was the great-grandfather of Michael Zucconi, Corey Crawford, Jacob Luminais, Ada Luminais, Camille Luminais, Danielle Davis, Thomas Luminais and Mark Davis. During his life, he owned and operated Caba's Hobby Corner in Metairie. Herbert is a Past Master of Albert Pike Lodge, Past Grand Royal Patron, Order of the Amaranth, State of Louisiana, Past Worthy Patron, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Knight's Templar. He was very active in the Masonic Youth organizations, including the Order of the DeMolay, Order of the Rainbow and the Job's Daughters. "Bill" Fisher, 91, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Eloise Fisher for 68 years; father of Ermilee Figueroa and William H. Fisher (Karen); and brother of Charles L. Fisher and the late George Fisher. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Ermilisa F. Shipp, William B. Figueroa, Linda Figueroa, Stephanie Fisher and Rebecca Roth, and seven great- grandchildren. A native of New Orleans and a longtime former resident of Lacombe, Mr. Fisher was a retired steel worker for Service Foundry, Dibert, Bancroft and Ross and Avondale Ship Yard in New Orleans. She was the beloved wife of the late Luke Fontana Sr. Salena was a co-owner of St. Christopher's Curve Inn Restaurant on old U.S. Highway 11 in Slidell for over 40 years. The Curve Inn was managed by Nick (Ignacio) and Matti (Matteo) Sansone. Salena and her husband were also co-owners of the Arcade Theatre in Olde Towne Slidell, along with co-owners Russell (Cy) and wife Ruby Fogg Carollo. The Arcade Theatre is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Selena was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, dating back to its original location on First Street. Salena is survived by her three children, Lucille Fontana Brennan, Nina Fontana Leonard and Luke Fontana Jr.; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Louise Carollo and Sister Mary Ann Carollo, O.S.B. Salena was preceded in death by five brothers, Frankie, Russell (Cy), Charlie, Peter and Victor Carollo, and one sister, Mary Carollo Siemssen. Mrs. Fontana was one of the earliest residents of the area that eventually became known as Slidell's historic "Old Towne." She was born on Carey St. on June 29, 1906. Her father, Andrea "Papa" Carollo, was the owner of Carollo's Grocery Store on the corner of Robert Street and Carey Street, the site of what is now the favorite Olde Towne restaurant, K.Y.'s. Andrea Carollo was also original owner of the Arcade Theatre. Salena's pre-deceased sister, Mary Siemssen, operated the Novelty Shop on Carey Street with her husband, Roy Siemssen, in the 1940's through the 1960's. Salena's two brothers, Peter and Victor Carollo, became proprietors of their father Andrea Carollo's grocery store after their return from active duty during WWII. Victor eventually opened Carollo's Supermarket in Lacombe. Salena's other brother, Charlie, was the owner-operator of Carollo's Furniture Store on First Street, and he later became a prominent Slidell landowner and developer. After the 1963 death of her husband, Luke Fontana Sr., Salena became alarmed over the deterioration and abandonment of her beloved Olde Towne Slidell. She began to slowly and quietly purchase some of the fading properties in order to keep them maintained. Salena was one of the original key players in bringing back Olde Towne Slidell. Salena's only son Luke Fontana Jr. is the executive attorney and founder of Save Our Wetlands Inc. Luke Fontana Jr. states: "I owe my love of nature to my Mother. She was a gentle soul, always working in the green green garden of peace ... an original flower child. Slidell is fortunate my mother blessed all of us for so many years." A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell, Saturday, April 19. During his first four years of teaching, he met Carol, at Leon Godchaux High School in Reserve, LA. After moving to Folsom, Carol's home, he spent 48 wonderful years in what he would call "God's country". He loved his yard of 400 Azaleas and many other flowers. Tommy retired after 20 years of teaching at Covington High School. He will be remembered for his years as a chaperone of the senior trips to Washington, DC, San Antonio, TX and cruises to Nassau. He served as yearbook sponsor and chairman of the Senior Class. One of his favorite responsibilities was announcing of the graduates as they received their diplomas. Ducky will be remembered for her devoted loyalty to her family: loving and caring for her husband Nip, her invalid mother for 10 years, raising her sons, Jim and Joe, and sharing her many talents as a teacher with so many children at Jean Gordon School, even teaching children of our local talent, Terry Flettrich. Up until the age of 92, Ducky was very active in life, walking her dog, Bell, and going for rides with Joe on the lakefront enjoying the view and watching people have fun. She took great pride in her garden and especially talked of the Magnolia tree that Nip planted for her as a gift. Ducky picked designated restaurants to dine with family and friends and you had better take to the one she chose that day. Jim and Peggy always made sure there was plenty of chocolate (she could eat eight pieces at once) and a shrimp po-boy for her eating pleasure.
