Please go to http://usgwarchives.net/la/sttammany/photos/obits/2008/st0806/ and click on the name of interest. ========== Betty Ann Murray Alexander, beloved wife of Dennis Francis Alexander, passed on to the Lord after a lengthy battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 6:30 PM. Age 59, Betty was the daughter of the late Ceni Rodman and Edward Murray. She is survived by her husband; her brother-in-law, Alfred Hayward and his wife Theresa; one nephew, Andrew Hayward; her cousin, Marjorie Calato and a host of friends and god-children. A native of New Orleans, Betty has lived in the Folsom area for the past 22 years. She attended elementary school at Shaw and high school at St. James Major. She received a BA from LSUNO, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, and her Masters Degree from Plus 30. Betty was a teacher in Orleans Parish at St. Louis, King of France and St. Gabriel the Archangel. In Metairie she taught at St. Christopher, where she also directed the summer school program for nine years. After moving to St. Tammany Parish, she began teaching first grade at Abita Springs Elementary. In 1993, she was selected as Teacher of the Year. The following year she became the school's Resource Helping Teacher. She also received the Jack Greenbaum Excellence in Teaching Award in 1998 and in 2008 the St. Tammany PTA presented Betty with a Distinguished Service Award. For several years she volunteered her skills to teach CCD at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Folsom. She also served on the Church Parish Council, was a member of the Bereavement Committee, Liturgy Committee, served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Mr. Anglin was a retired maintenance worker. He is survived by his wife, Keitha Marie Brauckoff; six children, Michael Ray Anglin, Gilbert Alan Brauckoff, Stephen Graig Brauckoff, Ronda Gail Grishom, Laurie Ann Gurganus and Bonnie Marie Gianakis; a brother, Allan Hall Anglin; and a sister, Sue. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kristin Nicole Gurganus, Colbee Esponge, Nicholas Sean Davis, Patrick Morris and Allison Joyner-Brauckoff. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Sean Brauckoff; two brothers, Ernest and Travis Anglin; two sisters, Catherine and Pauline; two grandchildren, Tiffany Laurie Brauckoff and Amanda Kay Gurganus; and his parents, Manard and Rosa Anglin. Dr. Beatty was born April 6, 1932 in Clarksdale, MS to Edwin M. Beatty and Rubye Lawson Beatty who preceded him in death. He spent his high school years in Tiptonville, TN where he began his football career. He attended the University of Mississippi and played football on a full scholarship where he became all SEC. In 2004 he was given the Bill Wade Unsung Hero Award representing the University of Mississippi by the All-American Football Foundation. Upon graduation he was the first round draft choice of the LA Rams. Prior to the season he returned to Ole Miss where he was an ROTC honor graduate. After graduation he served six months on active duty as Second Lieutenant at Fort Seal, OK. After rejoining the LA Rams, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers where he played from 1954 to 1956. In 1957 to 1961 he played center for the Pittsburg Steelers. He broke many records during his career and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for recovering the most fumbles in a single game. He attended the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry, Memphis, TN where he graduated in December 1962. He along with his wife, Margaret Crook Beatty, who preceded him in death, and his children, Diana and Sam moved to Louisiana and began his dental practice in the Covington, Folsom and Mandeville area. After his retirement from private practice he served as the dentist for the U.S. Army until 2001. Dr. Beatty was a member of St. Michael's, Mandeville, LA. In 2004 he became a licensed Eucharistic Minister in the Diocese of LA. Ed enjoyed life. He was an avid golfer and loved playing foursomes at Beau Chen with his friends. Dr. Beatty is survived by his wife and best friend, Gaylen Hansbrough Beatty of Madisonville, LA, son Sam Beatty (Jackie), Spencer and Devon; daughter Diana Duggar (Kevin), Grant and Mimi of Carlsbad, CA; sister Carole Feisal (Vic) of Memphis, TN. Mrs. Burns had been receiving treatment for cancer throughout this past year. Born October 28, 1928, she was the daughter of George Hypolite Koepp and Mildred Caroline Schoen of Covington, LA. She married Philip Frederick Burns (now deceased) in 1961. George Helen is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University. She went on to receive her masters in social work from Louisiana State University and became a psychiatric social worker. George Helen retired from Southeast Hospital in Mandeville where she had worked for 25 years in 1995. During her career she had also worked for Associated Catholic Charities and Lurline Smith Mental Health Clinic, both in Saint Tammany Parish. A founder of former River Forest Academy, George Helen was very active in creating the River Forest Community Fair. She was a devoted patron of Playmakers. Georgie, as she was called in her social circle, was a devoted and loving friend who enjoyed many life long friendships. She was known as a gracious hostess and gourmet cook. She is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn Burns-Pedersen, Ruth Joubert, and Ann Sacco, two sisters, Meda Koepp and Lurline Alexius, and three grandchildren, Cailidh Pedersen, Collin Pedersen and Sophia Sacco. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Lee Cutrer Sr., and loving mother of Sheila Ann Schaefer (and husband Robert Schaefer), Lee Cutrer Jr. (and his wife Andra Cutrer), and Sylvia Ann Rabalias (and husband, Craig Rabalias). She was adored by seven grandchildren, Allen Schaefer, Barbara Schaefer Hart, Bobby Cutrer, Braque Cutrer, Barry Cutrer, Brian Cutrer and Kristen Rabalais Ray, and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Kathryn Kirsch, Myra Blackwell and Val Keller, and a brother, Maurice P Healy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecelia and Lawrence P. Healy Sr., sisters Geraldine Daly and Joycelyn Rasmussen, and a brother, Lawrence P. Healy Jr. Mrs. Cutrer was a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of St. Tammany Parish. She was a former deputy with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office (tax division). Mrs. Cutrer was an avid gardener and a fan of her favorite baseball team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Davis of Christwood Lane, Covington, LA died on Saturday, June 7, 2008. He was born May 20, 1923 in New Orleans to the late Bemiss N. and Hazel Pettit Davis and has been a resident of Covington since 1959. The beloved husband of June McCarty Davis, he is survived by four sons, Eric N. Davis of Morrison, CO, Kent M. (Carty) Davis of Pinehurst, NC, Lee M. Davis of Lawrenceville, GA and George R. Davis of Hammond, LA. He is the brother of Helen Davis Morrison of Limon, CO, R. Lee Davis of Jackson, MS and the late A. Berkeley Davis of Jackson, MS; grandfather of Dillon, Brookes, Brandt, Madelyn, Piper, Parker, and Bryce Davis. Mr. Davis was an Army Veteran of WW II. He served in the Combat Engineers in the 3rd Army as a Tech Sergeant. After graduating from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, he attended Tulane University where he graduated in 1948 with a BE degree in Civil Engineering. While at Tulane, he was a member of the Sigma Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Mr. Davis retired as President of Broadmoor Corp. in 1986 and was past Vice- President of Boh Bros. Construction Co. He was President of the Bayou Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC); he also served as their State President and on the National Board. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Louisiana Engineering Society. Mr. Davis was an active member and Lay Reader at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington for 38 years. He was a Lay Eucharistic Minister, served numerous terms on the vestry, was Senior Warden of the parish on several occasions and was a past Deputy to the National Convention. Prior to moving to Covington, he was a member of Annunciation Episcopal Church where he served as past Senior Warden and a member of the vestry. He was a founding member and past president of Tchefuncta Country Club and was a member of their first Board of Directors. He also served on the Board for the Solomon Episcopal Conference Center and the Salvation Army Advisory Board. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, the former Dr. Madeline Phillips Heidelberg; son, Jeff V. Hare (Cindy) of Salisbury, Md.; and stepchildren, Billy Heidelberg of Slidell, Ruth H. Starr (Mike) of Slidell, Dr. Stephanie Heidelberg of Charlottesville, Va., Madalyn H. Smith (late Kenneth) of Ringgold, Ga., Martha H. Lewis (Pete) of Slidell and Stephen Heidelberg of Slidell; and sister- in-law Miriam Hare of Evansville, Ind. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Dr. John H. Hare and Imogen Varner Hare and brother of the late Dr. Daniel Hare. Dr. Hare was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Evansville, Ind., a city named for his ancestor Robert Evans. He graduated from Bosse High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from Indiana University in 1941, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and ROTC during WWII. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1944 and completed his residency in pathology at the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1948. During that time he conducted research projects at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md,, and Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City. He settled in Oxford, Miss., as Chair of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine Pathology Department, eventually moving to Jackson, Miss., with the medical school in 1953. While in Jackson, he served on the medical staff of Baptist Hospital. Dr. Hare's extensive cancer research and numerous published articles, along with his diagnostic skills and intellect earned him great respect from his peers. He retired in 1979 and moved to Mandeville, where he married Dr. Heidelberg. After returning to Tennessee and living for 16 years, the Hares moved back to Lacombe, where he lived until his death. His hobbies included fishing, stamp and coin collecting, working crossword puzzles and reading the daily Wall Street Journal. His clever wit and sense of humor will be sorely missed. James Kenneth Harrison, USAR (Ret) passed away June 7, 2008 surrounded by his family, he was 83. He was preceded in death by his parents, Iva Irene Willis and Bert Kenneth Harrison; a brother, Bert Harrison; and a son, James Kenneth Harrison Jr. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Elaine Pearce Harrison; a brother, Fred Harrison; his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Wayne and Marian Gautreaux Harrison; and two grandchildren, Bradley Kenneth and Natalie Marian Harrison. He was born September 11, 1924 in Mineral Wells, Texas; he resided in Covington for the past 48 years. Harrison began college at the University of California at Berkley, but his studies were interrupted by World War II. Before being deployed to Europe he met his wife, Elaine Pearce, while stationed in Baton Rouge at Harding Field. Harrison was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He obtained the rank of full Colonel. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 16 oak leaf clusters for combat action in Europe flying a P-47 Thunderbolt. He participated in the D-Day invasion. Harrison graduated from Louisiana State University with a Master's degree in Geology. He worked as a geologist for Shell Oil Company for 32 years and was an early pioneer in the company's use of computer technology. Harrison was a member of First United Methodist Church of Covington. He was one of the founders of Boy Scout Troop 110 in Covington and served as the troop's Scoutmaster for seven years. Harrison was a Ham radio operator and a member of the Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) for 55 years. He was a past president of St. Tammany Historical Society and Playmakers. James Kenneth Harrison was a warm, loving, and thoughtful person who loved his family and always put others first. He is admired and respected by all who knew him and will be deeply missed. She was the beloved wife of the late N. Alan Hays. Mrs. Hays was the daughter of the late Anton John and Millie Pitr Voznica. She was preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Casey, Eleanora Fike, Antoinette Wilson and her brother John E. Voznica. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Hays, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was born and grew up in Waco, TX where she attended The Convent of the Assumption and Waco High School. After graduation she worked for the phone company as an operator and later as a secretary for the McLennan County Health Department. She met her future husband on a blind date when he was stationed in Waco with the Army Air Corps during WWII. After their marriage they lived in Austin, TX for several years while Mr. Hays finished graduate school. They spent the next 5 or 6 years moving almost constantly because of Mr. Hays' job as a geologist. In the early 50's they were transferred to New Orleans. They moved to the Northshore in 1961 where they made their home for the rest of their lives. Mrs. Hays was very active in her church, Our Lady of the Lake, where she was a member of the Altar Society and earned the Senior Service Award for her work in the parish. She was a long time member of the St. Tammany Art Association and was a volunteer there for many years. Mrs. Hays delivered meals to people who were homebound. She was active in several Carnival Organizations. She was fond of opera, dancing and traveling. She loved nature and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed flower arranging, making rugs, needlepoint and sewing. She made wonderful pies and delicious tiny chocolate chip cookies. Mrs. Hays claimed not to be an animal person, but cared for many pets, all of whom worshiped her, over the years. She adored babies and babies adored her. A native of Memphis TN, he was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Antonio Perez of Key West, FL on November 1, 1934, he has been a resident of St. Tammany Parish for the last 41 years. He is survived by his twin sister Cecil Bick of Key West, FL and her six children; and his two daughters Stephanie Reeder of Carmel, IN and Stacey Stewart of Fairhope, AL. He was grandfather to Tony, Austin and Brooke Reeder of Carmel, IN and Gabriel and Jacob Stewart of Fairhope, AL. He is also survived by his longtime companion Ms. Paula Lester and her son Dwayne Lester of Belle Chasse, La and his former wife Barbara W. Hallam of Vero Beach, FL. A United States Army Veteran, Mr. Perez was an accomplished artist who studied at LSU in the mid 1950's before going to the Chicago Art Institute to study fine arts. Tony began his professional art career working at the FAA as a graphic artist. In 1961 he joined Chrysler's missile division in Huntsville, AL also doing graphic art work. His big thrill came in late 1961 when he was sent to Cape Canaveral to work with the astronauts and Wernher von Braun. While at Cape Canaveral he painted portraits of all 7 original astronauts for NASA. Of his many accomplishments he was chosen to paint the American Flag on John Glenn's space capsule for the Mercury project which stands in the Smithsonian Institute. He also illustrated the book The Evolution of Space which is available for viewing at the Library of Congress. He was later transferred to work on the Saturn space program at Michoud in New Orleans, LA. In the late seventies he was commissioned for the restoration of the Saenger Theater in New Orleans. Over the next 2 1/2 years he transformed the theater's magnificent interior from a movie theater to Broadway Theater. Tony was honored by the Smithsonian Institute in 1985 with a traveling solo show of his artistic Illustrations which depicted artist concepts of the Redstone rockets, the Apollo and lunar landing missions. In 1999 he was commissioned by the St. Tammany Maritime Commission to design the St. Tammany Wooden Boat Festival poster. In the last years of his life he spent his time creating various commissioned portraits, paintings and wood carvings. He has left behind a lifetime legacy of beautiful artistic creations that will be cherished and enjoyed by all who knew him. Tony was a compassionate man that put his heart into every project that he undertook. He will be missed by many and remembered for his smile, kindness, generosity and willingness to listen to every person that he met. She was completely devoted to family and friends and was a lifelong member of P.E.O., in which she held many offices over the years, including presidency on more than one occasion. Her life was highlighted by the birth of her children and in raising them to be kind and loving men, an absolute reflection of her gentle, caring personality. Everyone who knew her came to love her. God truly gave her the magnificent ability to brighten the lives of those she met. She will always live in our memories and inspire us as she did in life. He was born on August 16, 1930 to Frederick Benjamin Williams and Caroline Dutsch Williams. Beloved husband of 53 years to Shirley Jenkins Williams, brother to Robert Williams, Sr., Yvonne Spradley, and late Katherine McDaniels. He is survived by his children, Bruce R. Williams and his wife Brenda, Brenda W. Finnegan and her husband Chuck, Nathalie W. Henderson and her husband John, Charles R. Williams and his wife Marlene and Patricia W. Schoen and her husband Michael. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was a graduate of Covington High School class of 1948. As a member of the Armed Forces of the United States, he served during the Korean War. Mr. Williams worked in the construction industry as a lifetime member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 60. As a lifelong member and former Chairman of the Board of Waldheim United Methodist Church, Mr. Williams worked tirelessly for his community and served on the St. Tammany Parish School Board for 22 years. He was instrumental in the establishment of the St. Tammany Parish Collective Bargaining Agreement for all school system employees. His advice was invaluable during the initial design and construction of various St. Tammany Parish Schools. He served on the St. Tammany Jury Commission for approximately 20 years. As Scottish Rite Administrator of the Speech and Language Center located on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University, he oversaw its opening and advised operations. He served faithfully in many community service organizations and will be missed by his Brothers in the Covington Masonic Lodge #188, the Northlake Shrine Club, and the Scottish Rite Consistory of New Orleans. He was an enthusiastic and loyal member of the Abita Men's Club.
