Alford passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the age of 76. Beloved husband of 56 years to Joyce Givens Alford. Father of Marylyn Haislip, Beverly and Jay Youngs and Debbie and Marc Mistretta. Proud grandfather of Kristi H. Churchill, U.S.M.C. Staff Sgt. Jason and Sandra Haislip, Jonathan Youngs, Stephanie M. and Derek Anderson and Marc Alan Mistretta, Jr. and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Carol Bridges of Kentwood, brothers Wendell Alford of Long Beach, CA, and Ronald Alford of Denham Springs. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. After serving two years in the U.S. Army as Staff Sgt., Bob, then a brick mason, moved to Mandeville in 1959 when he began his 40 year career in law enforcement. After serving 20 years with the State Police as Staff Sgt. he retired to accept the position of Chief of Police in Mandeville for 3 years. Continuing his passion for public service he retired again with 12 years with St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs Office. With law enforcement still in his blood he became Chief of Security for Lakeview Hospital. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Mandeville where he gladly served on numerous organizations and committees. Alford, 52, passed away July 5, 2008, at Slidell Memorial Hospital of a massive heart attack. He was retired from the Navy after 21 years of service. After moving to Slidell, he worked several years with ABC Lighting and Texaco. He is survived by his sisters Carol Brown of Slidell and Mavis Toney of Houston; niece Jennifer Fogg of Dallas; nephews Jason Toney of Austin, Texas, and Christopher Lee Lyons of Slidell; and companion Roland Jarvis of Slidell. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, from 5-6 p.m. for family and 6- 8 p.m. for friends at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218. Funeral services will be held at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery, San Antonio, on Friday July 11, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. ======================== St. Tammany News (Covington, LA) - Monday, July 7, 2008 ALLEN, BILL Bill Allen, 77, a local builder and developer, died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Silverado Senior Living in Houston. Allen was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and graduated from Bossier City High School in 1950. He formed his first building company in 1956 in Shreveport- Bossier City, and moved to Slidell in the early 1960s. He lived in Slidell until 2004 when he moved to Houston. After moving to Slidell, Allen helped form the St. Tammany Division of the GNO HBA. He then served as president of the St. Tammany HBA and president of Louisiana HBA and was a charter member of the Louisiana Home Builders Association. For decades, Allen paved the way for the construction of new homes and businesses. As chairman of the LHBA Developers' Council, he worked to have a home builders' warranty law passed by the Legislature. He served as a LHBA national representative and testified before the U.S. Senate on wetland issues. Allen was inducted into the Louisiana HBA Housing Hall of Fame in 1997. He always attributed much of his own success to having listened to others wiser than he. In his community work, he was a member of the Slidell Noon Lions Club, the Slidell Chamber of Commerce, and a life member of Slidell Little Theater. He also served on the board of trustees at First United Methodist Church of Slidell. In 1974 he was the recipient of the John Slidell Award, which is the highest award given by the Chamber. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Roberts Allen, two sons, John Allen and Perry Allen, and a daughter Libby Brannen, two stepdaughters Lara Lechler and Maleah Corcoran and five grandchildren and five step grandchildren. Ann was surrounded by her family at her beloved home in Old Mandeville; she was 50. Ann was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, friend, potter and gardener. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Dorothy Mahoney of Metairie, La and her brother Robert S. Mahoney of Robert, La. Survived by her husband, Michael A. Dragna, sons Michael A. Dragna, II and Christian R. Dragna and daughter Kate A. Dragna. She had been a 37-year resident of Slidell and recently moved to League City, Texas, in 2004. She was born in Cardington, Ohio, on July 16, 1928 to Henry Harrison "Harry" and Marjorie Copeland Curl. Her spouse of 54 years, John Forbes, daughter Phyllis and son-in-law Dennis Grounds, and grandchildren Ross and John Grounds survive her. A son, John H. Forbes, preceded her in death. While a high school student in 1944 and 1945, she contributed to the WWII war effort by working summers at the US Ordnance Depot in Shelby, Ohio, making the 80-mile round trip commute daily by bus. After graduation from high school in Cardington, she attended Flora Stone Mather College of the Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, before transferring to Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio. After graduating from Otterbein with the class of 1950, she taught girls' Physical Education at Mansfield Madison High School in Mansfield, Ohio, until she moved to the San Diego area to become the comptroller assistant at TV station KFMB. There she met and married John Forbes, a dashing young Navy aviator stationed there. After a career of teaching mathematics, physical education and bookkeeping in Ohio and Texas high schools, she obtained a data processing degree in 1966 from San Jacinto College in Pasadena, Texas, and subsequently began work in the aerospace field as a math analyst for Chrysler Corp., where she was responsible for analyzing and converting telemetry information on the Saturn 1B flights into digital tapes for engineers. She was selected as one of the first women to represent the Chrysler Corp. Michoud Assembly Facility as part of the Manned Flight Awareness Program for NASA, to attend the launch of the Skylab III launch from the Kennedy Space Center. In addition, she was a senior systems analyst for Lockheed Space Division, Earth Resources Laboratory at the Stennis Space Center, where she retired in 1988. Jo Anne. Forbes was a member of the Ohio department of the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 97, for 74 years. She excelled at contract Bridge and was an accomplished pianist, seamstress and a passionate quilter. A memorial service will be held on her birthday, July 16, at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Seabrook Texas, with an interment in Slidell on July 19. She lived her entire life in Tickfaw, and her farthest travels took her to Rockford, Ill., and to touch the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida on her honeymoon. She enjoyed cooking, making bread and caring for her family. Her 10 grandchildren were the delight of her life. She devoted much of her life to caring for her aging parents and her younger sister, Sally. She was born on Monday, July 24, 1933. Mrs. Pisciotta was a member of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Tickfaw, and her presence will be greatly missed. She was the beloved Wife of Harold E. "Rusty" Shelby; mother of Conrad Shelby (Margaret) and Mary "Lizzie" Shelby-Rogers (Neil); daughter of Dr. Merrill O. and Beth E. Challman of Louisville, Ky.; and sister of Tim, Dan, Don and Ron Challman and Carolyn Lanham. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Isabel, Jackson and Carter, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was a native of Rock Island, Ill., and a lifelong resident of Slidell. She had a career as a dental hygienist for 25 years, but her passion was painting water color and mixed media landscapes, primarily of the bayous and waterways that surrounded her home on the Northshore. She had many shows here on the Northshore and had a local following. She was a longtime member of Chamale Cove Raquet Club, was an avid boater who photographed many of her subjects from a boat before she painted them. She also traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. When she first had cancer in 1998, she did research for treatment here in Louisiana and discovered Dr. Augstin Suarez of Slidell Memorial Hospital, who was a member of the "21 Club" and a top notch oncologist, who cured her of the first cancer. She was surprised to find the availability of top notch treatment here in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, considering most misconceptions of the health care industry. She had a green thumb and loved to cook, spending countless hours in the garden and kitchen. She was strong willed, generous, extremely giving, compassionate and empathetic to everyone she came in contact with and touched the lives countless friends and family members. Lucie, still vital and active, would have been 95 years old this August. Lucie was a remarkable, self sacrificing, spiritually motivated woman who met every one of her life's challenges head on, with strong convictions of meeting her responsibilities, and doing the "right" thing. She operated the Lucie Shoppe in Harahan, La., for over 20 years. Then, after retiring from Loyola's Office of Human Relations, she went on to graduate from Loyola University earning a BS in Liberal Arts in 1980 at the age of 67. She loved learning, enjoyed intellectual conversations, and the pursuit of all knowledge. She traveled extensively to the European countries seeking first hand knowledge of the cultures, life styles and antiquities she so loved. For the past 6 years, Lucie, with declining vision, continued to independently care for herself while a resident at Rouquette Lodge in Mandeville, La. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver William St.Pe Sr., and her son Oliver William St. Pe Jr. She is survived by her loving children Philippi Pierre St. Pe, Suzanne St. Pe Keegan McLellan, Renee St. Pe Allen and Andree St. Pe Laubscher along with eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren, who affectionately called her Mawmaw. He was the devoted Grandfather of Blakely Thompson, Brandon Tallo, Blayre Tallo, Adam Ackel, Jr., Austin Ackel, Alton Ackel, & Alexandra Ackel. Mr. Thompson was a graduate of East Jefferson High School in Metairie. He went on to pursue a career with Delta Airlines, retiring after 32 year of service. He touched the lives of all who knew him and will be greatly missed. He was the son of the late Margaret Thompson and Samuel Thompson.
