Rosemary Ricketts Anderson passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the age of 
69, after a lengthy illness.

Rosemary was born December 7, 1938 in New Orleans to her parents, the late 
Nathaniel William Ricketts and the late Ethel Baldwin Ricketts.

Rosemary is survived by her son, Eric William Anderson; his wife, Angela Green 
Anderson; granddaughters, Aeryn and Erica Anderson; a sister, Regina Ricketts 
Draper; her husband, Prahngar Vubrio Draper and a host of relatives and friends.

Rosemary is a graduate of Joseph S. Clark Sr. High School and Dillard 
University. Rosemary taught for over 30 years in the Orleans Parish School 
System and the California School System.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services 
on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 3:00 PM from E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 
2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Saturday beginning at 
1:00 PM.

Interment will be private.

grandchildren. Step-father of Russell Ross Williamson.

Russell Eugene Beshoner passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the 
age of 54.

Loving husband of 12 years to Karen Oser Beshoner; dedicated stepfather of 
Chelsea B. Breeden and her husband Shane, Brittan K. Alexander and her husband 
Brant and Kaylin R. Kirkham and her fiancˇe Trey; Adoring and proud grandpa of 
Ava L. Breeden and Brayson C. Alexander; cherished son of Elizabeth Walters 
Beshoner and the late Edward Charles Beshoner, Sr.; loved son-in-law of Doris B. 
Oser and the late John F. Oser, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward 
C. Beshoner, Jr. and his wife Linda and Michael W. Beshoner and his wife Donna; 
his sister Sandra B. Shurtz and her husband Tom; his nieces, Kathy (husband 
Andy), Alexandra and Annie; his nephews Eddie (wife Jen), Kai and Jack; and a 
host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Russ was born in Mobile, AL and was raised in Covington, LA, graduating from St. 
Paul's High School. He was a licensed U.S. Merchant Marine Officer with the U.S. 
Coast Guard. He owned and operated Bayou Ed's Charter Fishing Service for many 
years out of Delacroix Island. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his passion and 
knowledge of fishing with his family, his many good friends and his charter 
clients. Russ was affectionately known for his good nature, his hard work and 
his caring and generous heart. He will always be remembered as a fun loving 
story teller who left you wondering truth or trick? His greatest enjoyment in 
life was simply to enjoy being with his family. He will be missed terribly, more 
than words can express, by all those who knew him and loved him.

Winifred "Pat" Pretty Beter on Wenesday, August 30, 2006 at St. Tammany Parish 
Hospital in Covington, LA.

She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph Beter and loving of mother of Robert 
(Gwen), David (Betty), Richard (Liz), Brian (Ann) Beter and Lesley (Sheldon) B. 
Fleming. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive her.

A native of Birmingham, England, Pat resided in Covington and worked at St. 
Paul's school as the English Resource Coordinator and at Lyon Elementary as a 
Hosts Program Mentor. She was 79.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend Funeral Services on 
Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 11:30 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral

BRODERS

Gloria Neubeck Broders, 81, of Slidell, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008. She 
was a housewife and a member of The Village Church Lutheran in Lacombe.

Broders is survived by two children, Reid R. Broders and Mark M. Broders; and 
her daughter-in-law, Tammie Talbot. She was the grandmother of Michelle, Reid 
Jr., Beryle and Darlene. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, 
Angel, Erika, Devin and Ethan; and her dog, Missy.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at The Village Church 
Lutheran, 29180 U.S. Highway 190.

D.T. Williams Funeral Home of Pearl River is in charge of arrangements.

Bryan D. (Billy) Burns, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at the age 
of 80.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Burns Williams, her husband Randy Williams 
and their children, Erin Elizabeth Williams and Caitlin Ann Williams; one son, 
Bryan D. Burns, III, his wife Dawn Burns and their children, Elizabeth Fields 
Burns and Mary Brooke Burns; and one sister, Karen Burns Moise.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryan D. Burns and Lois Smith Burns; 
his daughter, Laurie Elizabeth Burns; his brother, Donald Clifton Burns; and his 
sisters, Dolly Burns Stroble, Jacqueline Burns, Bethel Joyce Burns and Carol 
Burns Bradley.

Mr. Burns was a native and lifelong resident of Covington.

Gretchen Ann Picou Clifton passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at the age 
of 39, after a short, but very courageous battle with lung cancer.

Gretchen was born on August 16, 1969 in New Orleans, LA to adoring parents, 
Dianne Bologna Picou Boland, and the late Lee J. Picou, Jr. The family moved to 
the Abita Springs and Covington area when Gretchen was 2 years old, so she 
always thought of the North Shore as her home. 

She is the beloved wife of David W. Clifton, and is survived by her life long 
best friend and brother, Brian Steven Picou, sister-in-law, Kimberly Decker 
Picou, nephew Vincent Lee, and niece Gretchen Angelle Picou. Gretchen felt very 
fortunate to still have her beloved maternal grandparents, Nana and Paw-Paw, 
Antonio and Anna Duclos Bologna living close by and she was very devoted to both 
and will be greatly missed by them. Gretchen was the granddaughter of the late 
Lee J. Picou, Sr and Catherine Selhofer Picou. Surviving also are her parents-
in-law, Charles J. and Leatrice Dours Clifton, and a hosts of numerous aunts, 
uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

A graduate of the class of 1987 from Covington High School, Gretchen went on to 
learn and earn her Medical Assisting career in Pediatrics, first being employed 
by Children's Medical Center and at the time of her illness and for the last 
thirteen happy years of her life with Fairway Pediatrics where she was loved and 
respected by physicians, coworkers, parents and patients alike.

Relatives, friends, physicians, coworkers from both clinics who were fortunate 
enough to have this devoted employee are all invited to attend a wake on Sunday, 
August 24, 2008 from 6-9PM at E. J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W 21st Ave., 
Covington, LA 70433 with visiting hours again on Monday, August 25, 2008 from 
noon until 2PM, at which time the funeral Mass will begin promptly.

Interment will follow the Mass at the Abita Springs Cemetery.

Helen Sandifer Collins of Covington, LA passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2008 
at the age of 84.

Beloved wife of the late Cecil Collins. Mother of Nell Leveque, Sam Collins, 
Tammy Lewko and the late Duke Collins. Step-mother of Cammie Peneguy and the 
late Cecil Collins, Jr. and Robert Collins, Sr. Loving grandmother of ten 
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by two brothers and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

She touched many lives in her service to the community for 26 years at Kiddie 
Land Kindergarten and Day Care.

Billy Barnett Cook, 67, of Slidell, passed away on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at his 
home.

He was the beloved husband of Nancy R. Cook and father of Thomas Cook of 
Slidell. He was the son of the late Charles and Mattie Cook of Kilbourne.

He is survived by six grandchildren, Taren Cramer, Krysten Verdin, Kelsey 
Cramer, Kali Cramer, Ali Hendricks and Shelby Cramer. one great-grandchild, 
Dustin Hendricks; two brothers; two sisters; and 12 nieces and nephews. 

The wake will be held today from 3-8 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home, 200 E. Noble 
Street, Oak Grove, LA 71263 (318-428-3263). 
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 9, at Kilbourne United Pentecostal Church, 
626 Ashley St., Oak Grove.

Daniel Gene Cox passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008. He was born in New 
Orleans October 2, 1956 to Audrey Larrieu Cox the late Captain William P. Cox, 
Jr. and was a resident of Covington.

He is survived by his only son, Chad D. Cox; one sister, Sandra C. Tumminello; 
four brothers: William P., III, Bruce D., Christopher D., Keith R. Cox and his 
former wife, Sandra Cox Sagona. The beloved nephew of Russell Larrieu, Olga 
Hubsch, Betty Lotz and Marilyn Chavanell, Daniel is also survived by many 
cousins, nieces and nephews all of whom he cherished deeply.

on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel at Tammany Oaks 
Church of Christ, 3700 Highway 59, Mandeville, LA 70471.

On Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, Loretta Crawford, 41, of Pearl River, passed away.

She is survived by her husband, Eric Crawford; three children, Clayton and Sean 
Crawford and Erica Delaune; her parents, Curtis King Sr. and Lillian Easterling; 
two brothers, Curtis King Jr. and William King; and three sisters, Debbie 
Easterling, Angel King and Linda King.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Colin, Alex and Ethan Delaune; her 
mother-in-law, Barbara Crawford; and her father-in-law, Larry Crawford; and she 
was a beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews and a beloved sister-in-law of Alan 
and Linda Crawford and Stacey Neff.

She was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Crawford, and a sister, Robin 
Hollingsworth.

She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at 1 p.m. from the chapel 
of D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River.
Visitation is Monday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time.
Interment will follow at Audubon Cemetery, Hickory.

Jane E. Daly Cunningham, a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, 
and friend, passed away peacefully on, Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at her 
residence surrounded by her family.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Tom. Beloved mother of De, 
Ginnon, Sean and Tara, mother-in law of Harold Aucoin and Kathleen Heston and 
devoted Mema to Brendan and Caitlin Aucoin. She is also survived by her loving 
sister A. Audrey Wilcox, brother, J. Gordon Day, sister in law Geri Maher and a 
host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Jane was preceded in death by her parents Loretta and J. Gordon Daly, her sister 
Ethel Concagh and in laws Eileen Daly and Joe Concagh and nephews Gary Wilcox 
and Glen Newboldt.

A native of New Jersey where she grew up, married and raised her four children. 
She grew to love St Tammany Parish during the 20+ years she resided there. She 
loved the beach and sun especially Long Beach Island, NJ. Jane was in one of the 
first graduating classes of the Jersey City State College where she earned a BS 
in Nursing and a degree in teaching. She became a dedicated nurse and educator 
and was well respected and loved by students, parents, fellow teachers and 
administrators. She was most happy though when teaching nursing to the next 
generation of nurses and health care providers. She loved reading which she 
passed on to all her children and was an avid learner. Jane volunteered for many 
causes throughout her life including CASA where she received a special Court 
recognition for her quality and caring work. A beautiful, fun loving and unique 
woman, she touched the lives of so many in so many ways.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial mass at 11:00 AM, on Friday, August 
22, 2008 at St Anselm Catholic Church, 306 St. Mary St., Madisonville, LA 70447.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday at the church.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery.

Clifford "Lonnie" Cutrell, Jr. passed away on Thursday, August, 14, 2008 in Lake 
Charles, LA.

Beloved husband of 25 years to Karen Bethke Cutrell; loving father to Kristopher 
Martin Cutrell, Kelsey Elizabeth Cutrell and the late Clifford Ryan Cutrell; 
son-in-law to Lucy Bethke Keefe and her husband Patrick; brother of Patricia 
Lynn Cutrell-Hughey and her husband Carl, Gary Lee Cutrell and his wife Barbara 
and Vernon Leslie Cutrell and his wife Ellen. 

Besides his son, he was preceded in death by his mother, Selma Lorice Brewer, 
father, Clifford Leon Cutrell, Sr. and father-in-law, William Martin Bethke.

Age 60 years, a construction manager, he was a native of Pine Bluff, AR and a 
resident of St. Tammany Parish for the past 30 years.

Lorene Burnes Downey, 73, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2008.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by eight children, George, Albert, Pat, Willie and Edward Downey 
Jr. and Ruth Jochum, Terrie Mann and Jane Landry; a sister, Ruth Burnes; 18 
grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Downey Sr.; a daughter, 
Virginia Faye; her parents, Osborne and Jane Burnes; and a grandson, Albert 
Downey Jr.

Funeral services were held Saturday at D.T. Williams Funeral Home, Pearl River. 
Interment was in Hickory Memorial Gardens, Pearl River.

Benny Joseph Edwards passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008.

Beloved husband of 31 years to Jacqueline Spiers Edwards; loving father of Keith 
David Edwards and Christine Fitzpatrick; father-in-law to Robin Edwards and 
Caswell Fitzpatrick; grandfather to Victoria Fitzpatrick, Matthew Edwards, 
Dillon Fitzpatrick and Katherine Edwards; brother to William "Bill" Edwards, 
Jr., Douglas Edwards, Laura Cronic, Patricia Wright and the late Edna "Kitty" 
Chaubert. 

Besides his sister, he was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Louise Boyles 
Edwards and his father, William Horace Edwards, Sr.

the past 30 years. A United States Air Force Veteran, he was a graduate of 
Tulane University. He was the manager of Tesoro Petroleum Corporation, designer 
and owner of Claiborne House, Inc., owner of Benjamin's Bistro, and presently 
the developer of Claiborne Trace Condominiums.

Dixie Yeargin Faciane, 53, of Pearl River, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008.

She managed the Pink Panther Trailer Park and was an active band booster with 
Northshore High School.

She is survived by her husband, Freddie Faciane; two sons, Freddie E. Faciane 
III and Cory Brandon Faciane; and two daughters, April Rusk and Lori Jeanette 
Faciane.
She is also survived by two brothers, Chester B. and Lester R. Yeargin; her 
sister, Patsy Burnam; and two grandchildren, Cheyenne and Jazmine Rusk.

She is loved by her multiple "adopted" children.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Williams 
Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Visitation is today from 
10 a.m until service time.

Shirley Falkenstein died on Tuesday, August 26 of natural causes at the age of 
79.

She was born on December 11, 1928 in Colombia, South America to Fay Whaley and 
Chester A. Stewart. She was married to the late Adam J. Falkenstein and is 
survived by her sister Lois Stout, her four children Lynn Fresh, Barbara 
Gennusa, Bruce Falkenstein and Jeff Falkenstein, and 9 grandchildren.

Shirley spent the early years of her marriage assisting her husband in the 
management of the A.J. Falkenstein Bakery on Cohn St. in New Orleans. After 
spending several years in Airline Park, Shirley and her family moved to 
Covington in 1959. She was well known in the community for various roles that 
she served. In the sixties, she was Parents' Club president for St. Peter's 
School and SSA, and owner and operator of the Auto-Lec store on Columbia St. In 
the seventies and early eighties she was known for her work as President of the 
Military Road Civic Association, for her presence at the Covington Community 
Center watching her boys play ball and for the Falkenstein's Bakery in Covington 
which she owned and operated from 1974 until 1984. After her retirement, she 
became known for her work with the hospital auxiliary at Highland Park Hospital 
and then with Lakeview Regional and the Surgery Center in Mandeville. She will 
be remembered as a strong woman with a devotion to her husband, her children and 
her community.

A memorial service will be held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home 2260 West 21st 
Ave. Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 3:00 PM visitation from 
2:00 PM until service time.

Wayne Thomas Fontenelle passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 20, 2008.

Age 53, he was born in New Orleans to Roy B. and Ruth Dorsa Fontenelle and was 
most recently living in Covington. 

The beloved husband of Kate Gundersen, he is survived by two daughters, Chloe K. 
and Clare R. Fontenelle; two sisters, Gail A. Glesener and Rene' F. Brockhoeft; 
four brothers: Gary B., Steven J., Charles E., and John B. Fontenelle; mother 
and father-in-law, John and Dagnar Gundersen; his brother-in-law, Sten Gundersen 
and 11 nieces and nephews.

He received his undergraduate and law degrees from LSU. He was an attorney for 
the Office of Community Service and also worked as an Orleans Parish Indigent 
Defender. He will be sadly missed and his loss will truly be heartfelt by his 
family and friends. Private memorial services will be held by the family. E.J. 
Fielding Funeral Home of Covington has been entrusted with arrangements.

(August 4, 1930 - August 29, 2008)

Charles A. Frederick, Jr. passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the age of 
78.

He was the son of the late Maria Charles Frederick and Charles A. Frederick, 
Sr., and the brother to Andree Dupuy and the late Yvonne Crowder. Charles was 
the beloved husband of the late Yvonne Fussell Frederick; Father of Maria 
Frederick Vincent; Step-father of Janis Johnson and Iris Cooper; Grandfather of 
William Evan Johnson II, George Frederick Johnson, Otha Ray Jenkins III, Melissa 
Chandel Jenkins, and Kaley Maria Vincent; Great-Grandfather of Amanda, Sarah, 
and Emily Jenkins; Uncle of Robert St. Romain, Pat Bartholomew, Judy Gernand, 
and Renee Bethel, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Buster, as he was known by family and friends, was a servant to his country and 
his community. As a member of the United States Army, he served in the Korean 
War. Closer to home, he was a Master Plumber by trade, a skill handed down to 
him by his father. He went on to establish and operate Frederick Plumbing for 
many years. Though at times Charlie had to travel for the armed services or for 
work, he always returned to his place of birth, Abita Springs. He called Abita 
"The Springs" and it was where his heart lay. He was a life long resident of the 
Abita Springs community and a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. 
Charlie accomplished much in his lifetime. He was a member of the American 
Legion, an Abita Springs Alderman, a member of the Abita Springs Men's Club, and 
served as Board Member for the St. Tammany Parish Hospital for 38 years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service to 
be held at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Abita Springs on Saturday, 
September 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:30 and will continue 
until service time.

passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Forest Manor in Covington. 

She was born in New Orleans on November 3, 1916 to the late Ruth Dobson and 
Wiltz LaFrance and has been a resident of St. Tammany Parish since 1994.

The beloved wife of the late Herman Lionel Gardner, she is survived by her son, 
Wayne J. Gardner, wife Jan Galatas Gardner; one daughter, Phyllis Gardner 
Marsolan, husband Fernand J. Marsolan, Jr., and four grandchildren: W. Jacob 
Gardner, Brian J. and Alan J. Marsolan and Catherine G. Marsolan. 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen LaFrance.

of 78.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Eleanor Barrios Gioia. He was 
the father of Adeline Walsh, Linda Hughes, Joseph Gioia Jr., Michael Gioia Sr., 
Dominick Gioia Sr. and Penny Erato; brother of Mary Galland, Phillip Gioia and 
Catherine Russo; and son of the late Carlo J. Gioia and Lena Maltese Gioia.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of 
nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Gioia was a resident of St. Bernard Parish until August 2005. The family would 
like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Care of Slidell.

Mr. Guarino was a native of New Orleans, a longtime resident of Braithwaite and 
a recent resident of Covington. He was a retired Lt. Colonel with the Louisiana 
Army National Guard, past president of the Washington Artillery Veterans Assoc. 
and former chairman of Ducks Unlimited St. Bernard Chapter.

Ellen Riggs Heintz died on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Christwood Retirement Home 
in Covington, Louisiana.

She was the beloved wife of Louis Cochran Heintz of Covington. Ellen Mary was 
born in Baton Rouge, LA on December 28th, 1923 to William Alvin Riggs and 
Winifred Colite Maine. She was the sister of the late Winifred Riggs Smith 
Cogswell, Laura Riggs Fleischman and Mary William "Billie" Riggs Eustis.

She is survived by her children Lucie Heintz Walters, Susan Heintz Phillips and 
son-in-law Troy Phillips her son Ludwig Cochran Heintz, MD and daughter-in-law 
Beth Beyl Heintz. She was a caring and loving grandmother to Marty Magnani, 
Summer Magnani Lumino, Skyler Courtney, Lindsay M. Walters, Ludwig C. Heintz II, 
Laura H. Prisco, Caroline J. Heintz, Forrest Riggs Heintz, Elliott B. Heintz, 
and William T. Heintz. Her great grandchildren are Amanda Cozette Lumino, Kyle 
Isaac Heintz, Louis Cochran Heintz, and Joseph Michael Prisco III. She was loved 
by her nieces and nephews.

Ellen was a dedicated nurse for many years at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. She 
was an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution and other 
organizations.

He was a teacher and coach at St. Paul's High School; past president of St.

Krewe of Covington; and president of TKE, national fraternity. He was a faithful 
Eucharistic Adoration adorer and parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Carroll Jones, 74, of Pearl River, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008.

Jones was a retired chief engineer - motor towing vessel for McDermott 
International. He was also a member, deacon, Sunday school teacher and 
discipleship training teacher at First Baptist Church in Pearl River.

He is survived by his wife, Stella Harper Jones; three children, Rebecca 
(Stephen) Parker and Anita (James) Harris of Pearl River, and Kevin (Twylla) 
Jones of Columbus, Miss. His also survived by three brothers, John D. Jones Jr. 
(Evelyn) and Patrick Jones (Barbara) of Picayune, Miss. and Herbert Jones 
(Virginia) of Oaklyn, N.J.; his sister, Gracie Pearson George (Bill) of 
Carriere, Miss.; and five grandchildren, Tabitha Parker, Shaunna Harris, Aaron 
Harris, Dennon Jones and Kirsten Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillie and Johnnie Jones Sr.; three 
sisters, Margaret J. Carver, Cordell J. Kehner and Elsie J. Mckeon; and one 
brother, Corbett D. Jones.

Robert (Bobby) Lee Key, Jr. passed away surrounded by family and friends, Sunday 
afternoon, August 17, 2008 at the Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans LA.

He was 49 years old. A resident of Covington LA, he was born in Warner-Robins 
Ga. Bobby is a 1976 graduate of Warner-Robins High School. He graduated from 
Middle Georgia College and the University of Georgia where he was a member of 
the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After college, Bobby moved to Baton Rouge, La. 
to manage Champs Sporting goods and other subsequent business ventures. He was a 
devoted UGA sports fan. His favorite hobby was gathering with friends. Bobby 
never met a stranger and spent his life making innumerable friends. All who knew 
him will miss his stories, quick smile and genuine concern for the well being of 
others.

He was a tremendous father figure to Cassi, Trey, and Desiree, the children of 
his spouse of nine years Cara (Carol) Priser. Proceeded in death by his mother, 
Lucille and father, Robert Lee Key. He is survived by his brother Stacy Lanier 
Sr., and sister-in-law Patricia, nephew Stacy Lanier Jr., and his wife Krissy, 
niece Wendy and husband Ed Stanford. Grand-nieces and Grand-nephews Ashlyn 
Lanier, Cooper Lanier, Abbie Stanford, Cameron Stanford, and Caroline Stanford, 
and former wife Amanda McDonald Scallan along with many other friends who will 
miss him dearly.

Robert "Bobby" Lee Lazaro, Sr. passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the age 
of 66.

Beloved husband of Connie Cenac Lazaro. Father of Robert Lazaro, Jr., Monica 
Lazaro Dykes, Bradley Lazaro, Leah Andries, Phillip Lazaro and Sarah Lazaro. Son 
of the late Rosalie Provenzano Lazaro and Joseph Lazaro. Grandfather of thirteen 
and great-grandfather of six. Brother of Joseph Lazaro and Albert Lazaro and the 
late Rose Lynn Lazaro.

Bobby had been an active member of the St. Paul's Athletic Association, past 
treasurer of the SSA Dad's Club, a long-standing sponsor of Pelican park 
athletic teams, past Treasurer and President of the Louisiana Heat Pump 
Association, and owner of Lazaro's Heating and Air Conditioning.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008 at noon at Mary Queen 
of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA with a 
gathering at church beginning at 10 :00 AM. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 
2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA is in charge of arrangements.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery.

Robert Burton Lewis, 78, died peacefully at his home in Slidell on Friday, Aug. 
15, 2008.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Avis Gelis Lewis, and his four 
children: Cynthia Lewis Piranio and her husband Vincent of Folsom, Michael R. 
Lewis of Slidell, Craig A. Lewis and his wife Margie of Mandeville, and Beverly 
Lewis Sellers and her husband Gene of Abbeville. He is also survived by his 
eight grandchildren: Daniel Patrick Thiel II of Folsom, Lauren L. Edwards and 
her husband Clark of Parsons, Kan., Aaron C. Lewis and Devon K. Lewis, both of 
Mandeville, Chanel S. Broussard and her husband James of Lafayette and E. 
Marshall Sellers III, Taylor Lewis Sellers and Hunter B. Sellers, all of 
Abbeville.

He was the brother of Richard Lewis, Lillian Lewis Forsell and Mary Lewis Smith, 
all of New York.

A native of Troy, N.Y., he was a longtime resident of Slidell.

He was the first State Farm Insurance Agent in Slidell and retired after 35 
years with the company.

He was a Charter and Lifetime Member of the Slidell Kiwanis Club, where he 
served as Chapter President and Division Lt. Governor. He was an active 
parishioner and former Usher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where he 
and Avis were married.

He was the former Captain and first King of the Krewe of Troy in Slidell.

Elaine LaHodney Maddalozzo passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2008. She was 
born June 8, 1920 to the late Charles J. and Adeline Glover LaHodney in Aurora, 
IL and has been a resident of Slidell for 35 years.

The beloved wife of the late Bruno G. Maddalozzo, she is survived by one 
daughter, Gina M. Oertling; two sons, Charles J. and Robert B. Maddalozzo; five 
grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three 
sisters and one brother.

Juan Jose Mazariegos passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008. 

The youngest of three children, he was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala on 
October 22, 1941 to the late Juan De Dios Mazariegos and Zoila Lidia Petz.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Arthurine Trahan Mazariegos. Juan 
attended Gilead Bible School in New York and spent over 20 years in Christian 
ministry in El Salvador, Central America. Since 1990, he has lived in New 
Orleans as an agent for the Prudential Financial Group.

A native of Texas City, Texas and a longtime resident of Slidell, she was a 
school bus driver for the St. Tammany Parish School System.

Marie Louise Jacob McDonald died on August 4, 2008 at her home in the Christwood 
Retirement Community, Covington, Louisiana.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. McDonald, Sr., Mother of Thomas Jr. of Paris, 
France, Robert of Petaluma, CA. and Michael of Santa Cruz, CA. Daughter of the 
late Francis Jacob, Sr. and the late Louisa Sentilles Jacob. Sister of the late 
Francis Jacob, Jr. and the late Emile Jacob. Sister-in-law of Capt. Ralph A. 
McDonald. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and 
grandnephews.

A native and resident of New Orleans and Metairie for 34 years, she also lived 
in Asheville, NC, the metropolitan area of New York City and Dallas, TX before 
returning to Louisiana, where she lived in Covington for the past 26 years.

She graduated from Holy Name of Jesus High School in New Orleans and Maybin 
Business School, and attended Loyola University of New Orleans. She was a 
secretary and Head Bookkeeper at Radio Station WWL in its heyday 1938-1946. She 
was a volunteer and active member of civic, charitable, religious and social 
organizations in the New Orleans, New York and Dallas metropolitan areas.

Relations and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. 
Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville on Friday August 8 at 11:00 a.m. 
Visitation one hour before mass time.

Roy D. "Tookie" McManus Jr., 56, of Slidell, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at 
Northshore Regional Medical Center.

Nathaniel McManus, Roy David McManus III, Nathan Thomas McManus, Sarah Elizabeth 
McManus Maine (Bo), Rebecca Lynn McManus Henley (Jeremy) and Rachel Marie 
McManus; son of Roy D. "Tooker" and Ruth Innerarity McManus Sr.; and brother of 
Alana Ann McManus Peltier, Amos Andrew "Drew" McManus (Melinda), Durwin Michael 
McManus (Mona) and Sonya Patricia McManus Mayo (Kenny).

He is also survived by one grandchild, Emily Elizabeth Maine.

A native of and lifelong resident of Slidell, Tookie was a member of the 
Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union No. 60, New Orleans, parishioner of Our 
Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and a lifelong Louisiana sportsman.

A funeral Mass was held Monday at Our Lady Lourdes Catholic Church, Slidell. The 
Rev. Frank Lipps was celebrant.

RHOADES

Olaf Rhoades, 89, died July 29, 2008, at his son's home in Slidell after a long 
illness.

He was the beloved husband of Mildred and father of Gary. He is also survived by 
a sister, Mary Rabe, and many nieces and nephews.

Olaf was a native of Central City, Ky. At age 17, he entered the Civilian 
Conservation Corp. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Olaf was a soldier in the 241 Coast Artillery of the Harbor Defenses of Boston 
and later volunteered as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He 
received a Purple Heart during operations in Nijmegen, Holland, one of the 
"Bridge too Far" targets, in 1944.

He was married to Mildred for 61 years. He retired after 37 years as a tool and 
die maker in Detroit. He was a resident of Slidell for the past seven years.

A private memorial service was held. He will be sorely missed by his wife, son 
and all those who knew him.

Williams Funeral Home, Pearl River, was in charge of arrangements.

Dennis started working for the New Orleans Fire Dept at the age of 18, and 
retired after 24 years of services. Dennis loved fishing, hunting, cooking and

BERTHA (BETTY) JEANNETTE CASSANOVA SWETT, age 70, died August 28, 2008.

Betty was the daughter of the late Eugene Cassanova, Jr. and Elise Redler 
Cassanova. She was the sister of Anita Cassanova McKelroy and husband Rodney 
McKelroy, Sr., Eugene Cassanova, III, and wife Marcia Wehmeier Cassanova, and 
the late Patricia Cassanova. 

She enjoyed a wonderful marriage to Philip J. Swett, Jr. who is deceased. 
Together they shared the family love of three children, Philip J. Swett, III and 
wife Linda (Aucoin), Rosemary E. Smith, and Samuel E. Swett and wife Erika 
(Meissner), and six grandchildren: Philip Swett IV, and wife Jerrilyn 
(Arellano), Kate Swett, Paul Swett, Molly Smith, Nicholas Smith, and Samantha 
Swett.

Betty will be sadly missed by her extended family and her many friends.

She was active in her church, holding membership and leadership roles in the St. 
Peter's Altar Society and the NAIM widows club. She was a member of the 
Covington Civic Assoc. and Covington Garden Club. She was a long-time resident 
of Covington, graduate of St. Scholastic Academy and retiree of Bell South 
Telephone Company.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services 
on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 1:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 
2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

Visitation on Saturday from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment in Pinecrest 
Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Todd Valois, age 42, passed away on August 1st, 2008. 

Todd was a life-long resident of Covington.

He was the loving father of two sons, Preston Valois and Turner Valois. He is 
the son of Marcel and Mab Valois, the brother of Mathilde McCann and Walter 
Valois, brother-in-law of Brent McCann and Rosie Valois and beloved uncle to 
Brenna, Ben and Ruthie.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 12pm at E.J. 
Fielding Funeral Home in Covington, LA. Visitation will begin at 10am.

WALDROP

Billy L. Waldrop was born Aug. 18, 1930, in Murray, Ky., and passed Aug. 3, 2008. 

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1948 then the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 
retirement in 1987 as a Command Master Chief. He was a Korean War veteran, 
serving as a corpsman with the U.S. Marines at the Chosen Reservoir and later 
with the 1st Force Recon in Viet Nam. In Korea he earned a Silver Star, four 
Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. As a Navy reservist he served as an aide to 
Rear Adm. J.P. Connelly, commander in chief of Naval Command in Europe.

During his career as a corpsman he attended Harvard Medical School to learn 
medical photography and filmed the first open heart surgery. Later as a civilian 
he was a medical photographer at University of Tennessee Dental College and St. 
Jude Children's Research Hospital.

He graduated from Memphis State with a Bachelor of Science in education and 
Master of Education. He developed the curriculum for the Master of Education for 
Audio Visual Media Educational Technology as he was the first to graduate with 
this major. He was a pioneer in Audio Visual Media as a teaching tool. He was an 
athlete, including being a player on the All Navy Semi-pro baseball team, and he 
bowled, taught bowling to young people and to those who were to be bowling 
coaches. He was a member of the Chicasaw Council for the Boy Scouts of America. 
He served as a reserve deputy sheriff for St. Tammany Parish as a road captain 
and EMT instructor. 

He was married to Roberta East on Dec. 13, 1964.

He is survived by his wife; son, Steven K Waldrop and wife Tracy of Asheville, 
N.C.; daughter, Lynn Nance and husband Gary of Bastrop, Texas; and son, Barry 
Waldrop and wife Darla of Slidell; 11 grandchildren nine great-grandchildren; 
brother, Charles D. Waldrop Jr.; sister, Evann Hernandez; and nieces and 
nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, "Bill" Waldrop, his father, 
Charles Waldrop, and his brother, Dale Waldrop.

A visitation was Thursday at Vaughan's Funeral Home, Boerne, Texas, followed by 
the funeral service. There will also be a visitation at Honaker Funeral Home in 
Slidell Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Forest Lawn 
Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Waldrop would like donations in honor of Billy L. 
Waldrop HMCM (Ret.), be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, 
Topeka, KS.

Warren. Grandfather of Brooke Schexnyder, Tanya Campbell, Melissa Ellinger, 
Brandi Bernard, Joshua Ward, Matthew Ward, Katherine Ward and Seth Kinsey. 
Great-grandfather of Myah Campbell, Dylan Campbell, Sierra Campbell, Ethan 
Ellinger, Bryce Ellinger, Lanie Bernard and Brynn Bernard. Brother of Darlene 
Pellecer and the late Carol Buckel and Ellen Horn. He was also preceded in death 
by his parents, Benjamin Ward, Jr. and Lillian Fath Ward.

Age 68 years, a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of LaPlace, LA for the 
past 16 years. Benjamin was a Member of Local 130 International Brotherhood of 
Electrical Workers.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service on 
Friday, August 22, 2008 at 4:00 PM.

Anna Johnson Lambert Watson, 85, died on Wednesday, August 13, 2008.

She was preceded in death by husbands Lee C Lambert Sr. and Charles Watson.

She was the daughter of the late William Johnson Sr. and Anna Rubey Johnson.

She is surived by her sons, Lee C Lambert and William L Lambert, granddaughters 
Leeanna Lambert, Leanea Lambert and Amie Aertker, great grandchildren Andrew 
Lambert, Mercedes Ross and Jake Aertker. She was the sister of Teresa Dowty, 
Virginia "Dinky" Cimo and the late Katherine "Kitty" Lamia and William Johnson 
Jr.

Watson was a retired AFL-CIO staff.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial Mass at 10 a.m. 
Saturday at St Benedict Catholic Church, 20370 Smith Road, Covington.

There will be a gathering immediately after in the fellowship hall.

WOOD

Nathan Turner Wood, 81, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008.

He is survived by one son, Robert L. Wood (Cathy); two daughters, Barbara Wood 
Kellar and Gwendolyn Wood Gole (Anthony); and former wife, Dorothy Williams 
Wood. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Chris Wood (Parrish), Tony 
Gole, Lee Gole, Kaitlin Kellar and Kirstin Kellar; one great-granddaughter, 
Brennan Wood; one sister-in-law, Bettye O'Connor Wood; and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

Wood was preceded in death by his parents, C. L. Wood and Elise Turner Wood as 
well as his siblings, Roberta Wood Turner (Hilliard), Cyril L. Wood (Delta Mae), 
Etty Nell Wood Brouillette (Alfred), and twin brother, John T. Wood.

Nathan was a native and lifelong resident of Sun, having served 20 years as 
mayor of Sun. While mayor, he was instrumental in establishing the Sun Senior 
Center, Sun Festival and numerous community improvement projects.

Nathan retired after 43 years with Gaylord Container Co. in Bogalusa as a 
millwright. Mr. Wood was a past president of the St. Tammany Municipal 
Association, member of Sun Lodge No. 336, former deacon of Sun First Baptist 
Church and present member of The Morgan Class at First Baptist Church Covington.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, 
Aug. 9, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Brown - McGehee Funeral Home, 610 Ave. F, Bogalusa, 
with visitation prior to the services beginning at 10 a.m. Masonic Rites will be 
held at 11:30 am. 
Interment will follow at the Sun First Baptist Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist 
Church Covington Seniors and Missions Programs, 16333 Louisiana Highway 1085, 
Covington, LA 70433.

The family would like to thank Vanessa Edwards, Hazel Harrington, St. Tammany

recent 81st birthday celebration.

ZOLLER

John Harold Zoller Jr., 64, of Pearl River, passed away Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, 
at his home.

He was a retired rigger with the Dreyfus Marine Co.

Mr. Zoller is survived by his wife, Sylvia Smith Zoller; two children, John 
Harold Zoller III and Diane Ballard; and two brothers, Fred and Lloyd Zoller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harold Zoller Sr. and Billie 
Hillman Zoller; three brothers, Robert, Ronald and Douglas Zoller; and two 
sisters, Billie Roussell and Faye Cunningham.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke 
The Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell.
