A bright and beautiful soul has gone to shine in the heavens, a native of Bude, 
MS and a longtime resident of St. Tammany Parish. Geneva W. Allday went to be 
with the Lord on Friday, October 10, 2008 at Northshore Regional Medical Center 
surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Beloved wife of the late Jerry E. Allday, Sr. and devoted mother of Denise A. 
Allday, Robert R. Allday, Philip J. Allday and the late Jerry E. Allday, Jr. and 
Karen L. Allday. Grandmother of Amanda R. Allday, Adam J. Allday, Karen R. 
Allday and Jay A. Allday. Mother-in-law of Kimberly M. Allday. Beloved daughter 
of the late Frank D. Willis, Sr. and Hazel M. Kirklin. Loving sister of Ruby 
L.Coig, Lexine Scherer, Frank D. Willis, Jr. (wife Barbara) and David F. Willis. 
Also survived by many loving aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.

Larry Dale Aucoin passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the age of 55.

Beloved husband of Heather Simpson Aucoin. Devoted father of Tiffany Lynn Aucoin 
and Jarett Joseph Aucoin. Son of the late Merlin Ortego Aucoin and Joseph 
Aucoin. Brother of Nell Jones of Opelousas, LA, Ray Aucoin of Kaplan, LA, Gene 
Aucoin of Marrero, LA, Michael Aucoin of Beaverton, OR, Cheryl Tobin of Port 
Hope, Canada, Sandra Landry of Marrero, LA and the late Joseph Aubrey Aucoin and 
Marie Elaine Aucoin. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and his beloved 
pet Banshee.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Lewis Gerard Bascle passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2008.

Beloved father of Kevin Michael Bascle. Son of the late Amelia Badon and Lewis 
Gerard Bascle, Sr.

Age 63 years. A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Mandeville, LA for 
the past 40 years.

BECHAC, ALBERT DENIS

Albert Denis Bechac passed away peacefully on Thursday October 16, 2008 at the 
Louisiana Medical Center and Heart Hospital in Lacombe, Louisiana. 

He was born on July 11, 1939 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was a lifelong 
resident of Mandeville and fourth generation restaurateur of Bechac's Restaurant 
"Since 1885" on the Lakefront in Mandeville. 

He served the residents of the City of Mandeville as a councilman from 1964 - 
1976 and was a civic leader and charter member for many organizations, including 
the Pontchartrain Yacht Club, the Mandeville Jaycees, the Mandeville Lions Club 
and the Northlake-Mandeville Rotary Club. He attended Our Lady of the Lake 
Catholic School in Mandeville and graduated from St. Paul's School (1956) in 
Covington and Southeastern Louisiana University (1960) in Hammond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Moise Bechac and Azelie Verrett 
Bechac of Mandeville, Louisiana. He is survived by his loving wife Margherita S. 
Bechac, sons Denis P. Bechac and his wife Rhonda and Andrew M. Bechac and his 
wife Margaret; daughter Gina B. Vesper and her husband Steve; grandchildren 
Rebecca, Meredith, Camille, Evan and Madeleine Bechac and many other relatives 
and friends.

Visitation is to be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady 
of the Lake Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte Street, Mandeville, with the Liturgy of 
the Word service by Rev. John Talamo to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Interment immediately following at the Mandeville Cemetary.

Dr. David G. Beter age 55 of Caryville, TN passed away Wednesday, October 1, 
2008. 

He was in private practice at LaFollette Eye Clinic from 1988 - 2002. He was a 
member of the Tennessee, Kentucky, and American Optometric Associations. He was 
currently associated with Dr. Tom Browning and Tennessee Eye Care in Kingston. 
He enjoyed working and serving with Remote Area Medical.

Beloved husband of Betty C. Beter of Caryville, TN; father of Blair and Ryan 
Beter of Caryville, TN; brother to Lesley Beter and her husband Sheldon Fleming 
of Slidell, LA, Robert Beter and wife Gwen, Richard Beter and wife Elizabeth all 
of Mandeville, LA, and Brian Beter and wife Ann of Madisonville, LA. He was also 
survived by several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was 
preceded in death by his mother, Winifred Pretty Beter and his father, Joseph 
Henry Beter.

BETHALA

Mary S. Bethala, 76, of Slidell, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Slidell 
Memorial Hospital.

She was the wife of the late Samuel S. Bethala; beloved mother of three sons: 
Dr. Vivian K. Bethala, Upper Saddle River, N.J., Dr. Vasanth Bethala, Slidell, 
and Dr. Cyril V. K. Bethala, Gulfport, Miss.; mother-in-law of Dr. Nalini 
Harding Bethala, Seema J. Bethala and Dr. Yashashree Bethala; daughter of the 
late Ravi John Moses and Sunderamma Pilli Moses; and sister of Bharathi 
Nagabhushanrao, Judson Moses Ravi and Lalitha Prasad and the late John Prasad 
Ravi, Florence John and Violet Prabhakar.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Melony Samantha, Shalini Nina, 
Pranav Neel, Samira Ruth, Serena Rae, Ashwin Kumar and Liana May.

A native of Bhimavaram, India, and resident of Elkins Park, Pa., she was a 
dedicated middle school and high school teacher, retiring after many years in 
Philadelphia. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church of Philadelphia.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), 
Slidell, today, Oct. 8, 2008, at 7 p.m.

Road, Abington, Pa., on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, with interment to follow in West

Arlene Coleman Brady, age 99, a homemaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, 
great-grandmother, and a devout Christian passed away on Thursday, October 30, 
2008 at her home.

Mrs. Brady was a native of Van Buren, MO and a resident of Covington, LA for the 
past 54 years. She was one of the oldest and regularly attending members of 
First Baptist Church of Covington.

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert M. (Bob) Brady and her eldest 
son Michael Brady. Survived by three sons: Judge James J. (Jim) Brady of Baton 
Rouge and educators William Brian (Bill) Brady and Colin Coleman Brady both of 
Covington, three daughters-in-law: Karol, Karen, and Angela; three 
granddaughters Erin Beard and husband Ronnie, Kathleen, and Maura Brady; three 
grandsons Kevin and wife Caitie, Kelly and wife Janet, and Sean Brady; four 
great-grandsons Michael and Liam Brady, Justin and Ryan Beard; and great-
granddaughters McKinley and Evyn Brady; and numerous nieces and nephews. She 
will also be greatly missed by numerous friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on November 1,

BRIDGES MABEL CLARA

MABEL CLARA BRIDGES, age 87, died on Saturday, October 25, 2008 due to stroke. 

Mabel was born in Randolph County, NC to Yancey Bray and Martha Emily Williamson 
Bray, both deceased. She grew up on the family farm as the 7th child of 8. 
During WWII she worked as a payroll clerk in a shipyard and married Joe T. 
Bridges who died in 1996. They lived in the New Orleans area for many years. 
Mabel was a great Mother, care provider to her siblings, children, grandchildren 
and great grandchildren. She lived independently, kept a lovely home and 
beautiful garden.

Mabel is survived by her children: Rebecca Perniciaro (husband Peter); Susan 
Greco (husband Nick); and David Bridges (wife Beverly); her grandchildren: 
Jennifer Perniciaro; John Perniciaro; Glen Greco; Lisa Greco Hughes; Christina 
Bridges Martinez and David Bridges, Jr. And her great grandchildren: Bailee 
Bridges; Catherine, Julia, and John Greco; Audrey and David Hughes. She has two 
surviving sisters: Estelle Pernell and Lola Grayson of NC. She has many nieces 
and nephews. 

Mrs. Bridges was predeceased by siblings Roy Bray; Gertrude Newman; Swanna Ivey, 
Bertha Hester, and Virgil Bray.

The service for Mabel Bridges will be Saturday Nov. 1 at 3:00 PM at Mandeville 
Bible Church 217 Carroll St. Mandeville, LA 70448; Dr. Nick Greco officiating.

CLIFTON

Gretchen Ann Picou Clifton, 39, passed away Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, after a 
short, but very courageous battle with lung cancer.

Gretchen was born Aug. 16, 1969, in New Orleans to her adoring parents, Dianne 
Bologna Picou Boland and the late Lee J. Picou Jr. Gretchen was also the 
stepdaughter of the late Terrence E. Boland.

The family moved to the Abita Springs and Covington area when Gretchen was 2 
years old, so she always thought of the Northshore as her home. 

She was the beloved wife of David W. Clifton and is survived by her lifelong 
best friend and brother, Brian Steven Picou; sister-in-law, Kimberly Decker 
Picou; nephew Vincent Lee; and niece, Gretchen Angelle Picou. Gretchen felt very 
fortunate to still have her beloved maternal grandparents, Nana and Paw-Paw, 
Antonio and Anna Duclos Bologna, living close by, and she was very devoted to 
both and will be greatly missed by them. Gretchen was the granddaughter of the 
late Lee J. Picou Sr. and Catherine Selhofer Picou. Also surviving her are 
parents-in-law, Charles J. and Leatrice Dours Clifton, and hosts of numerous 
aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.

A graduate of the class of 1987 from Covington High School, Gretchen went on to 
learn and earn her medical assisting career in pediatrics, first being employed 
by Children's Medical Center and at the time of her illness and for the last 13 
happy years of her life with Fairway Pediatrics, where she was loved and 
respected by physicians, coworkers, parents and patients alike.

On Aug. 25, a beautiful funeral Mass was held at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in 
Covington with interment following at the Abita Springs Cemetery.

CONERLY, Z. RICHARD

Z. Richard "Rock" Conerly passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2008. 

He was born July 24, 1934 in Tylertown, MS to the late Willie D. and Linnie 
Causey Conerly and has been a resident of Madisonville for over 40 years.

The beloved husband of Learmia Listach Conerly, he is survived by one son, Shaun 
R. Conerly (Kimberly); his daughter, Linnette Conerly Goodly (Pete); four 
grandchildren, Haley and Lauren Conerly, Ian and Christian Goodly and one 
sister, Evelyn C. Frelix. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Causey (Janice).

Richard completed Central Memorial High School in Bogalusa in 1955. Therafter, 
he pursued his undergraduate studies at Grambling State University, graduating 
in 1962 with a degree in Physical Education. While at Grambling his 
extracurricular activities included drama, choir and playing football for the 
late Coach Eddie Robinson.

On June 25, 1965, he married the love of his life, Learmia Listach.

In 1973, Richard received his Master's Degree in Education from Southeastern 
Louisiana University. Finally, he completed an additional 30 credit hours to 
become certified in Physical Education, Special Education with emphasis on 
Mental Retardation, Drivers Education, Traffic Safety, Supervisor of Student 
Teaching and Principalship.

Mr. Conerley's teaching career began at Mayfield High School in Homer, LA, 
followed by positions at Covington Rosenwald School, Pine View High, Covington 
Junior High and finally in 1978, Covington High School, were he taught and 
coached football and track until his retirement.

Following retirement from teaching, he was a personal trainer at Franco's 
Athletic Club for over 10 years. He dedicated many years of service to the 
Special Olympics and was a member of the choir, usher and faithful parishioner 
at St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass on 
Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 12:00 Noon from St. Anselm Catholic Church, 307 
St. Mary Street, Madisonville, LA 70437.

At the church, visiting hours will begin at 10:00 AM.

Interment will follow mass at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.

or Special Olympics.

CRADDOCK

Gregory Elvin Craddock Sr. passed away on Oct. 16, 2008, at his home in Horn 
Lake, Miss.

He was the son of Edgar "Chuck" Craddock and the late Naomi Kennedy.

Greg was born Jan. 15, 1954, in Bogalusa.

Craddock is survived by one daughter, Brandie Craddock, and one son, Gregory 
Craddock Jr. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Dylan, Devyn, Dustin and 
Austin Craddock, William Yarborough and John Church.
He had one sister, Valerie Knight, and brothers Norman Craddock and Marlon 
Craddock.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Naomi Kennedy; a daughter, Freedom 
Craddock; and a brother, Rodney Craddock.

Memorial services will be held at McDonald Funeral Home, 401 W. Canal St., 
Picayune, Miss., on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008 at 6 p.m.

CROSBY, ROBERT H., JR.

Robert H. Crosby, Jr. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 
Christwood.

He was born on October 5, 1920 in Picayune, MS to Robert Howell and Ethel May 
Crosby. He has been known by numerous titles though the course of his 88 years - 
patriot, husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur and philanthropist are the 
most prominent. After completing over three years of service in the U. S. Army 
during World War II, Crosby made Louisiana his home. He and his wife, Elizabeth 
would become part of those returning veterans and their spouses known as "the 
greatest generation."

Not only did he become a successful and highly regarded businessman, he 
endeavored to better his adopted state. A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of 
Technology, he settled in DeRidder, Louisiana in 1945 where he immediately 
opened Crosby Chemicals, Inc which has evolved into Crosby Land & Resources. As 
recently as 6 years ago he served as Chairman of the Board. Throughout his 
career, Crosby devoted time to various corporate boards, including Central 
Louisiana Electric Company, Whitney National Bank, Pan American Life Insurance 
Co., Ochsner Medical Foundation. He served as Chairman of the LSU Foundation and 
the Louisiana Forestry Association. He also served as Grand Master of the Masons 
of Louisiana, as a member the Boy Scouts of America National Council and as a 
member of the National Explorer Scouting Committee.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Richard and Thomas Crosby 
and 1 sister Mary McDuff. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth 
Hendricks Crosby and four children, Betty Bergin, Lillian Maurin, Carla 
McClelland and Robert H. Crosby, III; Nine Grandchildren and six great 
grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Cox; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rossie E. Darby, 64, of Pearl River, passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008.

She is survived by her husband, David Darby, and two daughters, Tanya D. Morgan 
with husband Alton and Sonya E. Ducote with husband Shane Sr. Darby is also 
survived by four sisters, Mary Harvel, Patricia Finn, Connie Johnson and Hazel 
Richard; three brothers, C.W. Parker, Bobby Parker and Milton Parker; four 
grandchildren, Natasha Clements with husband Mitchell, Reva Morgan, Savannah 
Ducote and Shane Ducote Jr.; and her great-grandchild, Morgan Clements.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and James Parker Sr.; one 
sister, Delores Jarrell; and one grandchild, Alicia Morgan.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today, Oct. 10, 2008, at D.T. Williams Funeral 
Home, 67525 Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Visitation is 10 a.m. until 
service time. 
Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery. Sister Bessie will be officiating.

Betty Gindrat Deichmann, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at her residence in Texas 
at the age of 78. A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of St. Bernard 
Parish until residing in Texas after hurricane Katrina.

She was the daughter of the late Paul Timothy Gindrat and the late Madeleine 
Gindrat Woodfin. Sister of the late Daniel L. Gindrat. Beloved mother of 
Elizabeth D. Parker (Richard), Helen D. Gagliano (Michael) of Texas and Ruth D. 
Conrad (Joe, Jr.). Loving grandmother of Michelle Scott, Ricci Parker and Jodi, 
John Joseph and Christopher Conrad. Great-grandmother of Tyler and Chase Scott, 
Riley Kokemor, Kade, Jayda and Ethan Conrad.

Anthony Michael DeLuca passed away on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

Beloved son of Charles Daniel DeLuca and Ann Marie Rizzo DeLuca; brother of 
Elizabeth and Katherine DeLuca; and grandson of Margaret Rizzo. He was also 
survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Age 20 years, a native of Boston, MA and a resident of Mandeville, LA. Anthony 
was a freshman attending Louisiana State University.

Patrick Joseph Doyle Sr., 55, resident of Thibodaux, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, 
at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held today at Chauvin Funeral Home, 5899 Highway 311, 
Houma at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4-6 
p.m.

Patrick, or "P.D." as he was affectionately known by many, was a loving Daddy to 
his five precious children, Mallory, Lindsey, Patrick Jr, John and Trevor of 
Slidell. Additionally "P.D." will be missed by his siblings, Kathleen Hambright 
of Georgia, Michael, Edward and John of Tennessee, Brian and James from Florida 
and Maura Werthmann from South Carolina along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend a personal debt of gratitude to "P.D.'s" loving 
friends, Dr. Pete Lewis and Kaye Gussman and her staff at Chateau Terrebonne 
Health Care.

"P.D." was a commissioned officer in the U. S. Army, a graduate of the 
University of Tennessee School of Nursing and a dedicated health care-giver 
through the years. In addition, he was an avid sportsman and sailor, yet his 
primary passion was being a loving father to his five wonderful kids.

Patrick was Assistant Director of Nursing at Chateau Terrebonne Health Care.

DUNN

Roland Joseph Dunn Jr., born March 6, 1932, died peacefully at the age of 76, on 
Oct. 2, 2008, under the care of Hospice of St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Lavonne "Bonnie" Saxen Dunn. 

He was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and Covington. He served three years 
in the United States Army Airborne. Being a graduate of LSU in mechanical 
engineering, he was employed by both Freeport Sulpher Co. and Lykes Bros. 
Steamship Co. Following retirement, he was owner and manager of Ace Contracting 
Co. in Covington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland J and Leonora Ford Dunn; one 
brother, Ronald W. Dunn; and one sister, Norma M. Dunn.

He was the father of three children, Rhonda Clarke, Robin Jourdan and Rory Dunn, 
and one daughter-in-law, Christine Dewitt Dunn. He is also survived by 11 
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by Bagnell and Son Funeral Home, 75212 
Highway 437 ( Lee Road), Covington. 
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, Oct. 6, from 7-9 p.m. and funeral 
services will be the following morning at 11 a.m., conducted by Bros. Shannon A. 
Burns and R. Murphy Brantley. 
Interment in Eternal Rest Cemetery.

Wayne Andrew Dupuy passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008. 

He was born July 19, 1939 in Jeanerette, LA to the late Ray Andrew and Emma Dell 
Borne Dupuy and has been a resident of Covington since 2005.

The beloved husband of Carolyn Lanoux Dupuy, he is survived by two sons, David 
M. Dupuy, Darren A. Dupuy and daughter-in-law, Lesley Ronquillo Dupuy; two 
sisters, Sue D. Nicoupolos, Kaye D. Karl and a number of nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Ben Dupuy.

Wayne lived in Metairie for many years, was a former employee of American Can 
Co. and retired as a member of Unit OL-5 from Shell Oil in Norco, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass on 
Friday, October 24, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral

William H. Edwards, Jr. was born on January 31, 1924 in Laurel, MS and passed 
away on Sunday, October 12, 2008 after a long illness at his home in Covington.

Beloved husband of 35 years to Margaret Waters Edwards and by first marriage to 
the late Jean Leeke Edwards. Loving father of Sandra Lemoine, Dianne Gibson, 
David Edwards, Barry Edwards, Joshua Edwards, Mark Beason, Mitchel Beason and 
Matthew Beason. Son of the late Edna Boyles Edwards and William H. Edwards, Sr. 
Brother of Patricia Wright, Douglas Edwards, Laura Cronic and the late Kitty 
Chabert and Benny Edwards. Grandfather of eleven and great-grandfather of two.

He was a faithful elder for 43 years at Faith Church in New Orleans and was a 
dedicated employee of Avondale Shipyards for 50 years. He served his country in 
the U.S. Army and was a veteran of WW II.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 12:00 noon from Church of the King, 22205 
Little Creek Rd., Mandeville, LA with visitation at church on Thursday beginning

Suphrona H. "Fronie" Garretson, 86, a resident of Pearl River, passed away 
Monday, Oct. 20, 2008.

She was a retired nurses assistant with Slidell Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by two children, Jimmie Dwayne Kennedy and Cecile Annett 
Hendrix; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Garretson; parents, Frank and 
Bessie Hart; a daughter, Lillie Jane Baragona; five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. from the 
chapel of D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Highway 41, Pearl River.

GERTH, ROGER WILSON

Roger Wilson Gerth was born February 15, 1941 and died October 14, 2008 at his 
home. A native of Estelline, SD and a longtime resident of Mandeville, LA.

He was a master carpenter and his beautiful cabinetry work is in many fine homes 
in the New Orleans and Mandeville areas. With an interesting and varied life, in 
earlier years he was a "Smoke Jumper" with The U.S. Forestry Service in Montana.

He is survived by his life companion Mary Christine Webster, M.D., his son 
Jeffrey Scott Gerth of Mandeville, brother Gary Lynn Gerth of Montana, sister 
Lonnie Jene McBride of Washington State and nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Anne Wilson Gerth and Elmer Otto 
Gerth of South Dakota.

Funeral services to be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

GOFF

Patricia "Pat" (Fisher) Goff, born March 8, 1931, passed away Oct. 10, 2008, 
after a long illness following her stroke in 2005.

Pat was born in Ponca City, Okla. She was a Choctaw Native American Indian. She 
married the love of her life, George B. Goff Jr. in 1947. George and Pat started 
out in Oklahoma and then moved to Washington, D.C. for a few years before moving 
to various places while George worked for The Boeing Company, including 
Issaquah, Wash., Huntsville, Ala.; New Orleans and Merritt Island, Fla. They 
returned to Issaquah and retired in 1989.

Pat worked as a nurse in all of these cities. She was an outstanding cook and 
loved to garden. Her sense of humor was contagious and kindness and humbleness 
defined her character.

In their retirement years, Pat and George loved to take their boat the N-SANA-T 
up to Echo Bay, Canada and to Alaska. 

Pat is survived by her husband of 61 years, George and their children, Susan 
Dunne of Slidell, David Goff of Vancouver, Wash. and Patti Mitchell of Poulsbo, 
Wash; grandchildren Gerald Dunne, Kevin Dunne and Pam White all of Slidell, 
Melissa Larson of Newcastle, Wash., Daniel Mitchell of Lynnwood, Wash., Conrad 
Kornmann from Seattle and Jill Hallin of San Diego; 12 great-grandchildren and 
one great-greatgrandchild. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Poulsbo Mortuary, 
located at 22272 Foss Road NE, Poulsbo, Wash. 98370. A reception will be held at 
the home of David and Patti Mitchell following the service.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, David Edgar Hales, 87, went to be with the Lord.

He was a retired lieutenant colonel, serving 33 years in the United States Army, 
Special Forces. 

He was also a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Slidell, a 35-year 
volunteer with the American Red Cross as well as a member of DAV, NAREE, AUSA 
and TROA.

Mr. Hale is survived by two children, Betty Ryan of Pearl River and Ginnie Fomby 
of Texas; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom would 
like to thank St. Tammany Hospice for the loving care they showed David and his 
family.

Funeral services were held Friday night at D. T. Williams Funeral Home, Pearl 
River.

Committal services will be at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis.

Allen Jensen was a graduate of Georgia Tech (BSME) and served his country during 
WWII (CDR USNR, Ret.). His engineering career was spent at New Orleans Public 
Service Inc. where his last position was General Manager of the Electric Power 
Department. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 
(ASME), Louisiana Engineering Society, Southern Yacht Club, Mandeville Yacht 
Club and a former member of The Krewe of Nereus and the Rotary Club.

Ladner and the late Richard E. Ladner Sr. and grandson of the late Victor and 
Mary Henderson and Howard Ladner and Sybil and William Talley.

He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, David and Shirley Henderson and 
William and Luana Ladner; and cousins Davey Ann Larmann (Steven), their children 
Megan, Emma, Brenton; David Allen Henderson Jr., (Deanna) their children, 
Chelsea, Bud, his godchild Anna; Leslie Ladner Muldoon (Ian), their child, 
Justin; and Darren Ladner (Kathy) their children, Haley and Haden.

He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.

A native and lifelong resident of Slidell, he was the owner of Ladner's Siding 
and Gutters.

MATTHIEU

Linda Campbell Rogers Matthieu, 57, entered into eternal rest at River Region 
Hospice House, River Ridge, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at 5:40 a.m., after a 
very courageous two-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born Sept. 5, 1951, in Hammond to Max Eugene and Sara Thomas Campbell, 
both now deceased.

After graduating from high school, Linda spent the next 11 1/2 years in the 
United States Air Force, giving her the opportunity to see much of the world. 
She was stationed in Colorado, California and New Mexico. She also had tours of 
duty in the Philippines and Turkey, at which point she was able to backpack 
across much of Western Europe and England.

Upon leaving the Air Force, Linda was employed by John C. Stennis Space Center 
in Hancock County, Miss.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Max Eugene 
Campbell Jr.; and her sister, Cheryl Campbell; grandparents, John Henry and Emma 
Sones Campbell and Nuncio Charles and Josephine LaBruzzo Thomas; uncle, Charles 
Thomas, as well as a host of other close relatives.

Linda is survived by her loving husband, Brett B. Matthieu of Pearl River; her 
beautiful daughter, Brandi Rogers of Natchez, Miss.; sisters-in-law Lois Merry-
Lee (J. Riley) of Slidell, Beverly Deckard (Fred, deceased), of Beaumont, Texas, 
and Norma Jean "Jeanie" Matthieu Barch (John) of Slidell; aunts Helen Campbell 
Goodwin and Ruth Henry Campbell of San Augustine, Texas, Dean Thomas Noto 
(Victor) of Independence and Shirley Thomas Garafola (Joseph) of Denham Springs; 
as well as a host of much loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

MCGINNIS

Beloved mother and grandmother, Ingeborg McGinnis (1932-2008) passed away 
peacefully on Oct. 1, 2008.

Inge was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Sennfeld, Germany to Georg and Martha Ankenbauer. 
She married the love of her life, John H. McGinnis, and lived a military 
lifestyle, together raising their three children, Michael, CarryLee and Raymond.

Inge and John lived in Louisiana and loved sailing in the Gulf of Mexico. She 
enjoyed traveling, crafts of all kind and was very artistic.

Inge lost her home during the Hurricane Katrina disaster of 2005 and moved to 
the Salt Lake City area to be closer to family. Her joys in life were her family 
and dear friends from Slidell.

She was a wonderful homemaker and loving mother and will be missed greatly but 
remembered fondly always.

She is survived by daughter, CarryLee Cazier (Craig); son, Raymond McGinnis; and 
grandchildren, Inge Cazier, Gavin Cazier and Michael McGinnis.

She was preceded in death by husband, John, and son, Michael.

Private family service will be held Monday, Oct. 6, at St John the Baptist 
Catholic Church in Sandy, Utah.

Claudia Charbonnet Normand, 88, of Slidell, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008.

She was the beloved wife of 60 years to the late Alvin P. Normand; daughter of 
the late Viola Andignac and Charles Charbonnet; mother of Alvin J. (A.J.) 
Normand and Kim D. Normand; mother-in-law of JoEllen Normand; and sister of the 
late Alfred, Charles and Clement Charbonnet.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Alvin, Heather, Amanda and Julian 
and one great-grandchild, Allison. She was the aunt of Mary Ellen Haynes, Larry, 
Robert and the late Clement Charbonnet and many nieces, nephews and other loving 
friends.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1978, she was a member 
and past president of V.F.W. Bauer Post 3346 and past president of Senior 
Citizens of St. Luke's Church.

A funeral Mass was held Monday at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell. Interment was 
in Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans. Masses Preferred.

age of 22.

Beloved wife of Bobby J. Phillips. She is the daughter of Jimmy Thigpen and 
Robin Knight.

Hereferd, Jr.

RUCKER

Debra Inez McGregor Rucker passed away peacefully at her home on October 11, 
2008 in Pearl River, LA. 

She was the daughter of Hazel Sellers and Gordon Bennett McGregor of Wiggins, 
Miss. and Mobile, AL. Debra was born on April, 17, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Miss.

She attended Mobile General Nursing School where she received her RN and Norfolk 
General Hospital in VA from which she attained the status of Certified 
Registered Nurse Anesthetist. Debra was Lieutenant in the Navy Nurse Corps and 
worked for 28 years at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

McGregor is survived by three sons Dr. Victor Rucker, Richard Rucker, and Perry 
Clay Rucker Jr. She is also survived by two sisters, Mollie Barrott and Melissa 
Gillis.

She was predeceased by her parents and one brother Gerald McGregor.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Debra at 
Pearl River United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 25 at 10 a.m. 
A luncheon and time for visitation will follow the service.

Our loving father has gone to be with the Lord. Sunrise 01/23/26 - Sunset 
10/28/08. 

Raymond Ruiz Salas, Sr. was born in San Antonio, TX. Ray grew up in Corpus 
Christi, TX. Ray served in WWII. He was an Optometrist and avid golfer. Ray 
lived in Harlingen, TX for 10 years, moved to New Orleans, LA for 30 years, and 
lived in Dickinson, TX for the last 5 years. Our dad was always helping others. 
He loved spending his time outdoors listening to and feeding the birds.

Preceded in death by his mother, Anastacia Ruiz Resendez; his father, John 
Salas; his brothers, Pete and Arsenio Resendez; his sister, Emma Lybarger; his 
son, Robert Salas; and his grandson, Lance Salas.

Ray was survived by, Mary Villarreal Salas, the mother of his children, Yolanda 
Silva (Cande), Raymond Salas, Jr. (Belinda), Richard Salas (Marcy), Sylvia 
Rodriguez, Elizabeth "Libby" Moreno, Mary Ellen DiMarco, Sandra Nance, and Karen 
Savage (Mike). His legacy includes 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 
a host of relatives and friends.

Our Father, Daddy, Pops, Poppie, Paw-Paw, Viejo, Mr. Ray, as he was referred to 
by many, will be sadly missed. Until we meet again, may we smell you in the wind 
and see your joyful face when we hear the birds singing.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, 
at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte

She was a member of the Hosanna Lutheran Church Salt Music Team for ten years. 
Mrs. Schindler was a lover of music and taught piano for 60 years.

SCOGIN

Thelma Ouder Scogin, 82, a lifelong resident of Slidell, died Friday, Oct. 3, 
2008, at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite.

Mrs. Scogin graduated from Slidell High School in 1943 and worked as a legal 
secretary for many years. She was a member of the Slidell Women's Republican 
Club, Apple Pie Ridge Homemakers, the Guardians of Slidell History and SHS 50 
Year Club.

She was very active in local politics and community activities. She won many 
awards for her crocheted afghans and homemade jellies and jams. She also enjoyed 
gardening and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, former state Rep. Edward C. Scogin.

She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Scogin Fandal; son-in-law, Michael J. 
Fandal; a granddaughter, Amanda L. Fandal; and a brother, Joseph C. Ouder.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West 
(in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 8, 2008.

Doris Evelyn Gottschalk Sharp passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008, the 56th 
Anniversary of her marriage to the late Herman Avery Sharp, Sr.

She was born August 22, 1932 to the late George Raymond and Eva Bush Gottschalk, 
was a hard-working, loving wife and mother and was dedicated to the family dairy 
business in Folsom for over 30 years.

She is survived by three sons, Herman A., Jr. (Vicky), Scott (Jena) and Wendell 
C. Sharp (Kim); one daughter, Melanie L. Sharp; seven grandchildren, Avery and 
Byron Sharp, Kevin, Kody and Karson Sharp and Zachary and Cameron Barnes; one 
great-granddaughter, Angel Sharp; four brothers, Leander, Raymond, Phillip and 
Theodore Gottschalk; two sisters, June Fussell and Linda Henderson. She is also 
survived by her devoted friend, Ella Lloyd.

The beloved husband of Shannon Fitzmorris Spinks, he is survived by two sons, 
Jason E. and Samuel E. Spinks; daughter-in-law, Sena and his grandson, Jason 
Ronald Spinks. He is the brother of Iris, Louie Jean, Carol, Gary, Connie, 
Jackie, Chris and Martha. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Evette Spinks.

Prentiss Stevens, 79, of Slidell, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in Slidell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maggie Stevens; his first 
wife, Gloria Yeates Stevens; and a son, Joseph Keith Stevens.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean Faye Stevens; four children, Prentiss 
Stevens Jr. of Baton Rouge, Sandee Stevens Meaney of Shreveport, Geana Stevens 
Rust of Zachary and Lisa Marlene Stevens of Alexandria.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Stevens was a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and had a lengthy career 
with Martin Marrietta.

at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), 
Slidell at noon today, Oct. 8, 2008.

Jimmie Earlene Mathews Stogner passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008 in 
Slidell, Louisiana. 

She was born May 22, 1926 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to the late Katie Swift and 
James Mathews and was a life long resident of Bossier City, Louisiana.

Jimmie is survived by three loving children: Carolyn Darlene Steed, Robert R. 
"Bob" Womack (Ruth) and Linda Womack Beaver; one sister, Eunice M. Granger; six 
grandchildren: Christopher Shawn Steed (Christie), Jennifer Susan Steed Burleson 
(Sid), Tamara Ruth Womack Clements (Vincent), April Sarah Womack, Jonathan James 
Womack, Jaime Lynn Beaver and nine great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Alicia Diane Beaver; one 
brother, Melvin Mathews; two sisters, Mabel Farmer and Ruby Kinkead; son-in-law, 
James "Vic" Beaver and Ben Steed.

Jimmie was a godly woman and a wonderful mother whose love for Jesus and godly 
principles illuminated the lives of her children, grandchildren and all those 
who knew her. Jimmie was a stranger to no one and loved by everyone she came in 
contact with. She was a private duty sitter by profession who loved and cared 
for each patient as if they were related to her.

Karen was born May 30, 1951 to Eric and Irene Stokes in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Karen was former president of the local Chapter of C.A.C.

Miranne. 

Karen is survived by her mother: Irene Stokes; brother: Perry Stokes and wife

and Donna Shour and husband Bill; nieces and nephews: Leslie Shour, Katy Shour,

god-daughter: Tammy Lynne Barber; favorite cousin: Gayle Day.

Edith Wood Swenson, 82, of Sixth Ward, passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008.

She was a homemaker, a former local news reporter with the Slidell Sentry News 
and a member of Charter Oak Baptist Church in the Charter Oak community.

Mrs. Swenson is survived by her husband, Howard Douglas Swenson Sr.; a son, 
Howard Douglas Swenson Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Gayle Hines and Kathy 
Swenson-Norton and their husbands, Mark Hines and George Norton; and a sister, 
Alma Singleton.

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason Hines, Andrea Pecou, Bethany 
Singletary and Tiffany Swenson, and eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Altazan, 
Daisy Singletary, Alex and Kyle Aucoin, Vickie Swenson and Jeremy, Josh and 
Jonathan Hines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Willie Wood; a brother, 
William Wood; two sisters, Asalene Andrews and Ada Taylor; and a grandson, James 
Sonny Williamson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Charter Oak Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents, Ann and Prentiss Talley Jr.; wife Ashley LeBlanc 
Talley; son Martin Talley Jr.; daughter Hannah Talley; and three brothers, 
Michael Talley, Scott Talley and Richard Talley.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dock and Betty Singletary and 
Joyce and Prentiss Talley Sr.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, at 12:30 p.m.,

VOIGT

Col. Adolph Ettinne Voigt Jr., U.S. Army Retired Infantry, 84, of Slidell, 
passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Anna Kilian Voigt; father of Adolph E. Voigt, III 
(Eve), Janice Campi (Jancarl), Beverly Clarke, Christine Farber (Ned), Stephen 
Voigt and Annette Kistler; and brother of Roy Voigt.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jeremy, Adolph IV, Jessica, Anna and 
Caitlin, and three great-grandchildren, Carson, Olivia and Jackson.

A native of New Orleans, Col. Voigt retired after 28 years. He served in WWII in 
the European Theatre, landing on Normandy for D-Day, served in the Korean War 
and the Vietnam War, and earned the Triple Combat Infantryman's Award.

Upon retirement he dedicated the rest of his life serving and helping veterans. 
He was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and the Lions Club.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, 
at noon on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday after 10 a.m. until funeral time.

Donations to your favorite church food pantry, preferred, in lieu of flowers.

WALSH

Catherine McCoy Walsh, 79, of Pearl River, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008, at her 
residence.

She was the beloved wife of the late Patrick George Walsh Sr.; mother of Patrick 
George Walsh, Jr. (Mary Wynn), William Edward Walsh (Sheila), Kathleen Clair 
Richardson (Paul), Kathryn Rebecca Walsh, and the late Karen Ann Walsh Phillips 
(Virgil); and sister of Joan Meyer, Johanna Gruner, John McCoy, the late Eleanor 
Assaro and Patricia McCoy.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Roxanne Walsh Hotchkiss, Patrick 
Adam Walsh, Heather Naomi Walsh, Jon Paul Richardson, Jessica Lee Richardson, 
Skip Eugene Phillips and Jonathan Ray Phillips; and one great-grandchild, 
Griffin Hotchkiss.

A native of Petal, Miss., Walsh grew up in New Orleans and was a longtime 
resident of Pearl River. She was a retired supervisor with the Louisiana 
Department of Tourism.

A Memorial Mass was held Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pearl 
River. 
Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.

Donations to the Antonians of Sts. Peter and Paul or to Hospice of LA/MS., 
preferred, in lieu of flowers.

Ruth "Maw Maw" Watts, age 68, of Tuscaloosa, AL, formerly of Covington, LA, 
passed away on Monday, October 27, 2008, in Tuscaloosa, AL with her family by 
her side.

Beloved mother of Phyllis Hyche, Loretta Bowman and Wanda Desoiza; and sister to 
Janie Heck, Dortha Wells, Wanda Beasley, Joe Carter and Junior Carter. She is 
also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several 
nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl "Paw Paw" Watts; a grandson, 
Skipper Watts and brothers, Nick, Raymond and David Carter.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend graveside services on 
Friday, October 31, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Barker-McManus Cemetery, Lee Road, 
Covington, LA.
