Mr. Buckley was born February 29, 1920 in New Orleans, LA to Johanna and William P. Buckley, Sr. He was a WWII veteran and served with the 2nd Infantry. She was born June 30, 1923 in Douglas, Arizona to the late Harry W. and Janet Sine Lusk and has been a resident of St. Tammany Parish for 30 years. The beloved mother of Thomas Buell and wife Dawnell, Duncan A. Buell and wife Mary Ann, and Connie B. Hinton, she is survived by three grandchildren: Holly A. Hinton, Scott C. Hinton, and Kasey Buell; and three step-grandchildren: Elise Argueta, Tammy Stiebing, and Tiffany Wall; and her sister, Jean Lusk. Verna graduated from the University of Arizona in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music education. From 1944-46, she worked at the Chautauqua Institution in New York, studied at the Julliard School of Music, appeared in early live television shows, and worked at Papermill Playhouse, New Jersey, performing in numerous musicals. In the 1950s she was a well-known church soloist at Christ Church, Cranbrook and St. John's Episcopal Church in the Detroit area. She formed the first choir at Christ Episcopal Church in Covington, LA in 1962 and served as choir director there until 1974. In 1979 she graduated from Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado, with a Master's of Divinity and in that same year, became Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Hemingford, NE. From 1981-1983 she led churches in Palmer, Wolbach, and St. Paul, NE and in Beaver City, NE from 1983-89, finally retiring in 1990. In retirement, she also pastored Lee's Landing United Methodist Church in Ponchatoula, LA from 1992-98 and was active in the Mandeville Ministerial Association. Beloved son of Stephen and Cassy DiLeo; loving brother to Michael Carlo DiLeo, Kathryn DiLeo, and new brother to Phillip Michael "M.J." Coates; grandson to Larry R. He was a passionate reader of history, theology and science, and aspired to be both a professor and author. He was also an accomplished public speaker and won several public speaking awards. Jonathan was very caring and this was demonstrated by his stated request through the Make A Wish Foundation to fund an irrigation project for an orphanage in Zimbabwe. "Scotty" Ernce, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at 8 p.m. He was the beloved husband of Linda; father of Scotty, Michael and Tammy; and grandfather of Brittany, Lindsey, Tyler and Cameron. Scotty was a resident of Slidell for 31 years. He dedicated 60 plus years to the U.S. Marine Corps. The family would like to give special thanks to Allen Titus, the Marine Corps, the Marine Forces Reserve and staff located at 4400 Dauphine St. for all their support. Semper Fi "Always Faithful" - faithful to the mission at hand, to each other, to the Corps and to the Country, no matter what. The family was told that there is no such thing as an ex-Marine. He was 89 years old. Fayard was a contractor in the construction business and was a United States Navy veteran, serving his country during World War II. He fought in the battle of the Coral Sea. A pianist, Mr. Ladouceur spent most of his professional career entertaining music lovers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans using his stage name, Ray Ladd. He was featured nightly for years, first at Lucky Pierre's and then at Begue's in The Royal Sonesta Hotel. Even in retirement, Mr. Ladouceur continued to play his beloved piano at Restaurant Des Familles in Lafitte. In 1955, Mr. Ladouceur recorded his first album with his father, Phililbert, who played the organ on the patio of Pat O'Brien's in the 60's and 70's. His second album, a Nice Ladd, was released in 1977. It contains his original song, "Sideman". The album cover describes his music thusly, "His is a rather economical style, modern and not at all obscure, impressionistic but not dissonant. A style that is of interest and can be listened to with the expectation of surprises and turns of whimsy." Mr. Ladouceur is survived by his children, Raymond Phillip Ladouceur, David Ladouceur, Laura Roberts and Diane Liebrader; his sister, Lucille Holdford; and eight grandchildren. An active fisherman and woodworker, Curley also was involved in the community. He volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul's and the Tangipahoa Food Pantry as a volunteer and Board member. March 11, 2009 he would have celebrated 30 years of sobriety. AA was a large part of his life and many were helped by his devotion to the program. A member of the St. Paul's alumni group, he especially enjoyed his monthly breakfasts with a group his high school classmates. He was a generous soul who would give anything that was asked of him. He was the beloved husband of the late Amber Meyers Nunez; father of Charles C. Nunez Jr. (Kaysea), Ellen Marie Nunez Lamarque (John), Barnie Arthur Nunez and Laura Nunez McKinney (Steve); and brother of James Nunez, Estelle Coogler, Rhea Pershing, Juanita Merrill, Margie Mayfield and the late Charlene Patricia Callens. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a vast number of nieces and nephews. A native and lifelong resident of Slidell, Nunez loved gardening and enjoyed sharing his bounty with friends and family. He was well known for his carpentry skills. O'Brien died peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2008 surrounded by family. He was born on August 10, 1924 in New Orleans to the late William and Mary Johnston O'Brien and was a resident of Covington for over 50 years. He graduated from St. Joseph Seminary High School in June 1940 and from Tulane University Phi Beta Kappa in 1950. He served honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. Charlie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alyce O'Brien; his children and their spouses: Christine and Bill Lozes, Betsy O'Brien, Michael O'Brien, David and Lillian O'Brien, and John Preble; grandchildren: Wesley and Chris O'Brien, Andrew and William Preble, Maegan and Sean O'Brien, and Brian and Allison Lozes; and one great-granddaughter, Sonia O'Brien. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward O'Brien, and by his daughter Ann O'Brien. Charlie was a licensed real estate broker; Louisiana State Certified General Appraiser, and a long-time member of the St. Tammany, Louisiana and National Associations of Realtors. He served as a director and regional vice-president of the Louisiana Association of Realtors, and as the president of the St. Tammany Board of Realtors. He was selected as Ethics Committee Chairman and Realtor of the Year by the St. Tammany Association of Realtors. He qualified as an expert real estate appraiser in many state courts and was a panelist and lecturer for real estate appraisal issues. Charlie participated actively in the Catholic Church. He was awarded the medal of the Order of St. Louis by Archbishop Hannan on May 2, 1976. He served on the St. Peter Parish School Board in 1989 and was an honorary member of the Society of St. Teresa of Jesus and a frequent lector and volunteer at St. Peter Catholic Church. Marion graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, Ill. where he played basketball and later graduated from Middle Tennessee State University. He served during the Korean War with the SeaBee's in the US Navy, followed by the Army National Guard as a Warrant Officer. Marion taught mathematics at Marshall High School in Illinois before becoming a District Manager of Sales for Link Belt and P&H Cranes. He was an avid golfer and accomplished boater. He loved football, especially as a season ticket holder for the New Orleans Saints. His humor and love for family get-togethers, festivals, activities and parties brought many friends into his life. Marion was a former member of Colonial Country Club in New Orleans and also a former member of Pontchartrain Yacht Club in Mandeville. After relocating to Pass Christian, Miss., Marion was an active member of Pass Christian Isles Golf Club and was honored as the 1994 Italian Open Grand Marshall. He was formerly a member of Pass Christian Yacht Club. Marion and his wife Elaine moved to Fairhope, Ala. after losing their home in Pass Christian to Hurricane Katrina where he became an active member of Quail Creek Golf Club, Fairhope Yacht Club, the American Legion, the Elks Club, and St. James Episcopal Church. Marion is preceded in death by his beloved father and mother, Henry Earle and Roma Reese, and his previous wife, Carol Hogan Reese. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Elaine Peterson Reese, a wonderful mother and stepmother to his children, Michael (Kim), Susie (Jeff) Bishop, Elizabeth (Brad) Jones, Timothy, and Stephen, and step children Rick (Holly) Peterson, Todd (Jana) Peterson, and Rianne (Jimmy) Levy, and siblings Donny Reese, Leland Reese, and Elaine Sue Reese. Erica was born on April 23, 1964 in Covington. After graduating from St. Scholastica Academy, Erica enrolled and graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1986. Erica loved the Texas Hill Country and decided to make Austin her new home. Erica is survived by her loving family: parents, C.J. A native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for almost 50 years, she was the beloved wife of 64 years of Edward J. Villere; mother of Edward D. (Mary Kathryn), Ronald J. (Charmaine), Donald J. (Colleen) and Keith J. (Carol) Villere and the late Denise V. (Larry) Centola; sister of' Roy J. Nicaud and the late Nathalie N. Andree, Emmet J. Nicaud and Albert J. Nicaud, Jr.; daughter of the late Nathalie Bayon and Albert J. Nicaud; also survived by 15 grandchildren, Ashley Chitwood, Eddie and Heath Villere, Larry, Denise and Deborah Centola, Jeremy and Kimberly Villere, Alexis Petit, Jacob, Jason, Matthew and Emily Villere and Emma and Zack Villere and 10 great-grandchildren. Denise graduated from high school at 15 and the New Orleans Normal School at age 18 and began teaching in the New Orleans Public School System. She graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University in 1940. After moving to Covington, Denise taught at the newly opened Elmer E. Lyon Elementary School and retired from teaching in 1981 from St. Peter School. Denise was active with the Ozone C's Square Dance Club, St. Peter Altar Society and the Covington Garden Club, and as a volunteer with Alpha House and Forest Manor Nursing Home. A Eucharistic Minister for many years, she was honored with the Medal of the Order of St. Louis by Archbishop Hannan in 2004. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 1 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 E. 19th Ave, Covington, LA. Visitation at the Church at 10 AM until service time. Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Covington. Walker, 65, of Carriere, Miss., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell. She was the beloved wife of MSgt Richard Walker, USMC, retired; mother of Patrick Walker and MSgt. Richard Walker Jr., USAF; daughter of the late Leo and Lois Ryan; and sister of David Ryan, Michael Ryan, Jean Winsor, Roseann Ryan, Mary Taylor and the late William Ryan and Vicky Ryan. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Britt Johnson Walker and Hope Nicole Walker. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Mrs. Walker, a Marine Corps wife, served with her husband in various worldwide locations from 1964-1979 before being transferred to Louisiana. She was a resident of Slidell from 1980 to 1991, and moved to Carriere, where she resided until her demise. Walker worked in hotel management for many years, including at the Days Inn in Slidell. Beloved husband of Alice Marie Weaver for 28.5 years. Father of Timothy, Randy and Brandon Flowers, Michael Weaver and Mychelle Bachtell. He had grandchildren that adored him, Zachary, Amanda, Amber, Aly, Meghan, Nicholas, Dylan Flowers and Sharae Weaver. Brother of George Weaver. Son of the late Charles and Elaine Weaver. A native of Miami, OK and a resident of rural Franklinton, LA for the past 6 years. Jim retired from Conoco Phillips last year after 32 1/2 years, working his last years with brain cancer traveling back and forth to Houston. He had much valor through the battle and struggle of cancer. He was a much loved Deacon at Bogue Falaya Baptist Church. Wesley was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She was 84 years of age and a resident of Slidell since 1979. Wesley was retired from New Orleans Parish School System where she served as a custodian for 37 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Brown, and her mother, Alma Washington Davis. Not only is she survived by many friends, but also by Coco, her canine pup whom she loved and adored like her very own child. She was a great friend to all that knew her and will be sadly missed but fondly remembered. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Doyle's Funeral Home, 2430 Fourth St., Slidell.
