John James (Jack) Shields passed away on Sunday March 1 at University Hospital 
in New Orleans. 

He was born in Ogdensburg, NY on August 29, 1925. He graduated from Ridgeway 
High School, Ridgeway PA and the University of Houston where he was a member of 
Kappa Delta Kappa fraternity (now SAE). A veteran of WWII he served as a 
gunnery instructor in the Army Air Corps. Retired from Texaco Inc. land 
department after 35 years. Resided in Lafayette, Metairie and for the last 23 
years in Mandeville, LA. He was a member of the Pierre Georges Rousseau Chapter 
of the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Survived by his wife of 52 years, June Knight Shields, sons J. Jeffrey, wife 
Rebecca, Lakeville MN and Steven K, wife Yvette, Metairie LA and daughter Susan 
S. Wunderlich, husband Richard, Alva FL and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Dr. 
Mandeville LA 70448 on Thursday March 5 at 11 am with visitation at 10 am.

CHAMPAGNE, THOMAS JOSEPH, JR.

Thomas Joseph "Sonny" Champagne, Jr. passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009. He 
was born on January 19, 1923 to the late Thomas J. and Madolin Hodge Champagne 
and has been a life resident of Covington, LA.

The beloved husband of Hilda Crowe Champagne for 66 years, he is survived by 
one son, Thomas J. Champagne, III, his wife Erin Sweeney Champagne; one 
brother, William M. Champagne and one sister, Althea Davis Beaujeaux. He was 
preceded in death by two brothers, Robert R. and Justin "Buck" Champagne and 
his sister, Olive C. Hendry.

Mr. Champagne served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He 
was instrumental in creating a local Civil Air Patrol and owned and operated 
Champagne's Furniture Store in Covington for 32 years. He was also dedicated 
parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church and a life member of the Knights of 
Columbus.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass on 
Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of E.J. Fielding Funeral 
Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

Visiting hours will begin at 9:00 AM.

Interment will follow services at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.

Clyde Galloway, a lifelong resident of the Lee Road community, passed away on 
Monday, March 2, 2009 at the age of 81.

He is survived by former wife, Alpha Galloway; 3 children, Rhonda Nelson, 
William Galloway (Beverly) and Kimberly Dowden (Bennie); 4 grandchildren, his 
little darling Tina Mooney, David Nelson, Chantelle and B.J. Dowden; 1 great-
grandchild, his special angel Alyssa Mooney; a sister, Geraldine Crowe; a 
brother, Troy Galloway; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Chess Galloway and Emma Taylor Galloway; 4 
brothers, Claudie, Loyd, Phillip and Louis Galloway; 3 sisters, Gladys Jenkins, 
Eloise Loyd and Eula Tisdale.

We would like to thank the nurses, doctors and Hospice at St. Tammany Parish 
Hospital and a very special thanks to Dr. Wardlaw at Northlake Gastro.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Thursday, 
March 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 
W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Wednesday evening

POOLE

George Adin Poole, 80, departed this world on Sunday morning, the 26th of 
October 2008, in Slidell, following a long illness. 

He was born on April 8, 1928, in Wahpeton, N.D., to the late Oliver Wilson 
Poole and Millie Enochson Poole. George was a Christian and lived the majority 
of his life in Moorhead, Minn., and Houston.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Jean Chappell Poole. He is also 
survived by three children from his first marriage, Beth Young, David Poole, 
and Micheal Poole, and by two stepchildren, Linda Cartledge and Duane Keys. 
Other survivors include his brother, Pat Poole, 10 grandchildren, seven great-
grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Millie Poole, his stepmother, Katherine 
Gherity Poole, his brother, Dean Poole, and his infant brother, John Poole.

George served in the United States Marine Corps and had a long career with the 
American Red Cross. He retired from RH Medical Group in Houston. George was 
loved by family and friends alike for his outgoing personality and love of 
people, for his newsy daily e-mails and annual newsletters, and for his servant 
spirit. He was gifted with a beautiful speaking and singing voice and loved to 
cook and bake bread. He was a talented storyteller, a wonderful writer and 
communicator, and a passionate genealogist who loved nothing more than 
traveling with Jean to family reunions and historic sites.

His family will miss his wonderful sense of humor and his unique laugh and 
wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at North Shore Regional Hospital for 
the caring and skilled medical attention given to George Poole during the 
months that he was at their facility. Thanks also to the hospital ministry of 
the First United Methodist Church of Slidell for acting as liaison between 
George and his family in Texas.

Interment was in historical Pecan Grove Cemetery, McKinney, Texas. 

A private memorial service was held on Nov. 28, 2008. 
For those desiring, memorials may be made to the either the hospital ministry 
or the music ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Slidell, 433 
Erlanger St.

CYR, ARTHUR PAUL

Arthur Paul Cyr, 99, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in Jacksonville Beach, 
FL after a brief illness.

He was born in Fort Kent, Maine to Irenee and Elodie (Pinette) Cyr on December 
25, 1909. Mr. Cyr was one of eight children, five of whom left Maine during the 
great depression for education in Washington, DC. 

He earned a law degree from National University in 1933 and worked several 
years as a patent attorney. 

He and his late wife, Audrey Golden Cyr of Excelsior, MN, were married at St. 
Matthews RC Church in DC. in 1937, resided in Silver Spring, MD until 1941 when 
they moved to the Borough of Queens, NYC. 

In 1964, the family relocated from Tenafly, NJ to Silver Spring, MD where he 
worked at the Small Business Administration as director of minority businesses 
(MESBIC) funding. 

He retired in 1979 and enjoyed travels with Audrey, visiting their children and 
grandchildren. 

Arthur was a most honest, forthright man, faithful to his religion and often 
called a true gentleman. A loving husband, cherished father, grandfather and 
great grandfather, he will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by his children, Mary Anne Hess and husband Dave, Paul Cyr and 
wife Carla, Susan Cyr and husband Mark Johnston and Dick Cyr and wife Kathy; 
his sister, Irene Cyr; his grandchildren: Peter Hess, David Hess, III, Michael 
Cyr and wife Deanna, Richard Cyr and wife Lori, Matthew Cyr and wife Julie, 
Katie Cyr and Julie Ann Cyr Pigott and husband Tim; and eleven great grand 
children, some of which are Morgan, Christian, Carson, Bailey and Claire Cyr.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian 
Burial, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 am Mary Queen of Peace Catholic 
Church, 1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471. Visitation AT THE 
CHURCH, 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Saturday. Interment will follow in Pinecrest 
Memorial Gardens in Covington, LA.

Carl Lathan Fullilove Sr., 76, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009, at Northshore 
Regional Medical Center in Slidell. 

He was born in Carol County, Miss., and was a longtime resident of Pearl River.

He is survived by is wife, Carolyn Fullilove; six children, Carl L. Fullilove 
Jr., Phyllis A. Silva, Robert Chidester, Debbie Swan, Cindy Carmichal and Karen 
J. Ragas; one brother, James William Fullilove; and three sisters, Gennelle 
Mathew, Myrtis Holland and Leona Lane. He is also survived by his 
grandchildren, Angela Watson, Carl L. Fullilove III, Paul Fullilove, Richard 
Duff Jr., David Duff, Casey Gorbach, Michelle Ragas, Larry Ragas, Robert 
Chidester, Jason Carmichal, Bryan Carmichal, Michael Chidester and Megan Swan; 
and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Fullilove, who passed 
away in October of 1990; and four brothers, Kenneth Fullilove, Donny Fullilove, 
Marvin Fullilove and T.C. Fullilove.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 
Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at 
First Baptist Church in Pearl River, preceded by visitation at 9 a.m. 
Interment will follow at Crawford Cemetery. The Rev. Alvin Waller will 
officiate.

HAMBERGER

Ruth Mary Hamberger peacefully passed away on March 1, 2009, surrounded by her 
loving family. 

She was born June 25, 1921, in New Orleans.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lawrence "Larry" Hamberger; 
her parents, Anna and Roy Schaefer; her sister, Naomi Semrick; and her brother 
Roy B. Schaefer Jr.

She is survived by her son, Lawrence 'Wayne' Hamberger and his wife Cheryl; and 
grandchildren, Marie and Scott of Knoxville, Tenn; her daughter Carol Pomes and 
her husband Roy and granddaughters, Stephanie and Brittany of Slidell.

She grew up in the Irish Channel area, raised her family in Gentilly with her 
husband of 41 years, later moved to Slidell for 18 years, and moved to 
Knoxville after Hurricane Katrina. She loved to travel, play golf, garden and 
be with family. She will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service on Thursday 
at 1 p.m. at the Garden of Memories cemetery on Airline Highway in Metairie.

SAAVEDRA

Rodrigo Manuel Saavedra III, 59, of Bay St. Louis, Miss., passed away Friday, 
Feb. 27, 2009. He was a roofer in the construction industry.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Saavedra; his mom, Theresa Saavedra; three 
sons, Nicholas, Anthony and Rodrigo Saavedra IV; and one daughter, Rochelle 
Hutchins. He is also survived by three sisters, Jo Abanathie, Jody Gautreau and 
Pam Kennedy; five grandchildren, Devon, Denzel, Damien, Derrick and Kaden and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rodrigo Manuel Saavedra Jr.

A graveside services will be held today at Haaswood Cemetery in Slidell at 11 
a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to help with funeral costs.

STRICKLAND

Blanche Strickland, 65, of Slidell died Thursday Feb. 26 in Slidell. 

A native of Barnett, Miss., she retired from the St. Tammany Parish School 
System. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, where she was a choir 
member, pastor's aid, and worked in the Missionary Department, plus was 
overseer of the church's Nutrition Department.

She is survived by daughter, Schwanda Simpkins of Quitman, Miss.; three sons, 
Clarence, Keithen and Bernard Strickland all of Slidell; two brothers, Glean 
and Sandrew Marshall, both of Birningham, Ala.; three sisters, Willie Ruth 
Dyess of New York, N.Y., Rutha Mae Turner of Detroit, Mich., and Yvonne 
Marshall of Birmingham, Ala., and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Strickland.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 6 p.m. in the Macedonia 
Baptist Church, 60183 Bryan Road, Slidell. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 
p.m. Interment to follow in the Barnett Cemetery located at the East Baptist 
Church, 1029 County Road 290, Pacuta, Miss.

Colonel Dennis Michael Duffy, USMC, Ret., passed away on Thursday, March 5, 
2009.

Beloved husband of 23 years to Gail Duffy; father to Claire Duffy, Dennis 
Duffy, Jr., Kathryn D. Smith & her husband Durb and Kelli D. Filardi & her 
husband Dan; and brother of Mary Beth D. Florczak & her husband Adam. He is 
also survived by three grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Sweeney Duffy; his father, Gerard 
Duffy, Sr.; and two brothers, Gerard Duffy, Jr. and Timothy Duffy.

Age 65 years, he was a native of Elizabeth, NJ and a resident of Mandeville, LA 
for the past 13 years. In 1961 he graduated from St. Benedict's Prep School in 
Newark, NJ, where he received his varsity letter on the 1959-1960 undefeated 
Hall of Fame Cross Country and Track teams. He graduated in 1965 from St. 
Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, where he was on the varsity swim team and 
was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus College Council. A United States 
Marines Corp veteran, he served during the Vietnam Era. He flew 768 combat 
missions, made combat flight strike leader as a First Lieutenant in Vietnam, 
was named Flight Instructor of the year in 1970 for the VT-7 fixed wing jet 
aircraft and was Commanding Officer, 1984 to 1986, of HMM-767 which was named 
Reserve Squadron of the year in 1986. He retired from the Marine Corp as a full 
Colonel in 1992. In civilian life, Colonel Duffy was employed as the Area 
Manager for Petroleum Helicopters Inc. in Fourchon, LA, where he was employed 
for 25 years.

Burial on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 12:30 PM at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic 
Church, 1501 West Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471.

Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433; visitation 
will resume on Wednesday at 11:00 AM, AT THE CHURCH.

A reception following Mass will be held at the family residence in Mandeville, 
LA.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted on Thursday, March 
12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Barrancas National Cemetery, 80 Hovey Road, Pensacola,

Brandt, 219 Thayer Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32507.

Mary Elizabeth Martino Toups passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2009. 

She was born March 27, 1916 in New Orleans to the late Joseph and Margaret 
Strowe Martino and has been a resident of Covington since 2005.

The beloved wife of the late Ellis Joseph Toups, Jr., she is survived by three 
sons: Ellis J., III, Raymond G. and Ludger G. Toups; one daughter, Maryanne 
Toups; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Lynn Toups 
Ginesi; four brothers: David, Joseph, Raymond and Ludger Martino and two 
sisters, Margie and Anna Martino.

Overton "Ralph" Dixon passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at his Slidell, LA 
residence.

Beloved husband of 30 years to Sybil Templeton Dixon; loving father of Dave 
Dixon & his wife Judy, Keith Dixon & his wife Jeannette, Susan D. Shields & her 
husband Mike and Robyn D. Slagle & her husband David, Dale Dixon and her 
husband Richard; and brother-in-law to Louise Dixon. He was also survived by 
eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nannie Landry Dixon; his father, Adolph 
Dixon; a grandson, Bryan Dixon; and a brother, Stanley Dixon.

Age 85 years, he was a native of Ascension Parish and a resident of Slidell, LA 
for the past 30 years. He was the owner of O.R. Dixon Construction, Inc. A 
United States Marines Corp veteran, he served during World War II attaining the 
rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of Masonic Dante Lodge #174 of New 
Orleans, LA.

A Celebration of Life will be held at his residence at 124 Rampage Loop, 
Slidell, LA on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2:00 PM, bring pictures and stories 
of the past

William R. Pellow, Sr. minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ was called home 
to glory on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at the age of 66.

Beloved husband of Sonia Pellow. Father of William Jr., Johnathan and Edward 
Pellow. Brother of James Pellow, Peter Pellow, and Judith Morin.

He will greatly missed by all.

Jessye Bennett Reynolds, 97, born Dec. 11, 1911, passed away Saturday, March 7, 
2009, at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

Reynolds was a native of Memphis, Tenn., and a resident of Pearl River. She was 
a retired legal secretary with the federal government and a member of First 
Baptist Church of Pearl River.

Reynolds was the wife of the late William G. Reynolds Sr. and mother of William 
G. Reynolds Jr. and Susan R. Bush. She is also survived by one sister, Mable B. 
Bullard; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six sisters, two brothers and her parents, Bonne 
and Dora Bennett.

The family extends special thanks to her friends and neighbors in Pearl River, 
deacons and members of First Baptist Church, all the Home Instead workers and a 
very special thanks to Tom Long, minister and longtime friend.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at 11 a.m. 
today at First Baptist Church. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. 

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell. 
The Rev. Alvin Waller will be officiating.

CARTER

Bob Carter, 94, much-loved Louisiana United Methodist pastor, father, 
grandfather, uncle, and neighbor, died at home in Austin, Texas, on March 10, 
2009.

Born in 1914 and raised in New Orleans, he graduated from Tulane University and 
received his divinity degree from Emory University. He served circuits of small 
Methodist churches in rural Georgia and North Carolina in the 1940's. In 1945, 
he married Mildred Siceloff, with whom he was a partner in ministry until her 
death in 1979. They moved to Louisiana in 1949 and served churches in and 
around Covington (1949-1964), Eunice (1964-1969), and Baton Rouge (1969-1979). 
Bob's congregations knew him for his attentive pastoral care and community 
involvement. United Methodists across Louisiana knew him for his quiet 
peacemaking and leadership in social and racial justice. 

In 27 years of retirement, he followed the footsteps of John Wesley, going 
about caring for those in need and speaking against injustice. After moving to 
Austin around 1996, he became an active member of Trinity United Methodist 
Church and a true neighbor to his neighbors. He tended an unofficial garden in 
his corner of the apartment courtyard.

He is survived by daughter, Beth of Silver Spring, Md.; sons, David and Bill of 
Austin; and five grandchildren.

Bob suggested that gifts in his honor might be directed to the building fund of 
Trinity UMC of Austin or to the building fund of any church.

Sue Chesne entered into eternal rest on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the age of 
66.

Beloved wife of 44 years to Sonny Chesne. Loving mother of Lisa Chesne Carter 
and Steve Chesne. Daughter of the late Nancy Adkins Chapman and Homer Virgil 
Chapman of Huntington, WV. Grandmother of Amanda Wilson, Devin Wilson, Malorie 
Chesne and Gage Chesne. Great-grandmother of Tristen Chesne. Also survived by 
five brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Elisabeth "Betty" Styer Dimitry, 70, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at St. Dominic 
Jackson Memorial Hospital. 

Betty was born on April 1, 1938, in New Orleans. She was the daughter of the 
late Horace and Elisabeth Styer. She graduated from Christ the King High School 
in New Orleans and continued her education earning her degree from St. Mary's 
Dominican College. Betty taught for 28 years in Catholic schools in Metairie, 
Slidell, Mobile, Ala., and at St. Richard School in Jackson, Miss. Since 1997, 
Betty has worked as the Director of Religious Education at St. Richard Catholic 
Church and School.

Survivors include daughter, Lisa Geimer and her husband Wayne of Madison, Ala.; 
son, Dan Dimitry and his wife Gina of Long Beach, Miss.; daughter, Kate Ramsey 
and her husband Robert of Bay St. Louis, Miss.; daughter, Meg Richert and her 
husband Dean of Madison; 13 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was 
also survived by her sister, Janine Stebbins of Mobile; brother, James Styer of 
Hapeville, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. toay at St. Richard 
Catholic Church with interment following in Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland. 
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland is 
assisting with arrangements.

Catherine was a resident of Abita Springs.

Alexius. She was the daughter of the late Eva L. and Jules J. Benoit, and the

survived by 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marchand, a native of New Orleans was a sales clerk at the TG&Y store and a

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Marchand Sr.; children Joseph Marchand 
Jr. of Poplarville, Miss., Michael Marchand of Pearl River, Richard Marchand of 
Mandeville, Deborah Marchand of Pearl River and David Marchand of Carriere, 
Miss.; two sisters, Gay Rita Lee of Louisiana and Jeanne Hingle of Picayune, 
Miss.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Orlea Jastram and Brother 
Edlui Jackson.

A funeral Mass will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo 
Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Snyder officiating. Visitation will be 
from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. 
Interment will be in the New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Picayune

Vennie Sharp Revere passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2009. She was born 
November 21, 1921 to the late Preston and Amelia Jenkins Sharp and has been a 
life resident of Bush, LA.

The beloved wife of J. Robert Revere, she was preceded in death by her husband 
Albert Revere, the father of her four children: Fleta Revere Glass, Sherwood, 
Jerry, and Ernest "Remi" Revere. she is also survived by her brother, Jack 
Dudley Sharp; 23 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five brothers.

Mrs. Revere retired from the pediatric ward at Southeast Hospital and was a 26 
year member at New Zion Baptist Church.

Leatrice Van Schmitt passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the 
age of 85 after a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma A. Van; father, August A. Van, 
Sr.; and Joyce Van Hazard (John). She was the mother of Susan S. Koine, Barbara 
S. Cruthirds (Charles), Jay Schmitt and Lisa S. Silver (David). Grandmother of 
Phil Koine, Jr. (Cheryl), Jennifer Koine Davies (Chad), Christopher Cruthirds 
(Heather), Lauren Cruthirds, Lindsay Cruthirds, Jason Broome (Jennifer), Amanda 
Silver and Laine Silver. Great-grandmother of Shane Davies, Jacob Davies, Colin 
Cruthirds, Caden Cruthirds and Joshua Cruthirds. "Adopted" grandmother of Dana 
Brocato, Susan McNamara and Susan LeBlanc. Sister of August A. Van, Jr. 
(Myrle). Very special aunt of Janet Hazard (Bob) and Jeanine V. Seeber (Phil). 
Longtime friend of Gloria Rodriguez and Herbert Kesler.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for the past 22 
years. She was a retired secretary to Judge Charles Schwartz and the late 
Herbert Christenberry of the U.S. District Court. She loved life and lived it 
to the fullest. While working at a plant during WW II, she was given the title 
"Miss Production Control". In 1968, she was elected President of Alpha Sigma 
Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. Everyone knew they were welcomed into 
her heart, home and pool. She will be sadly missed by all.

Many special thanks to St. Tammany Parish Hospital and Hospice Staff.

He was born May 25, 1945 in Bogot‡, Colombia to Leticia Velandia Klein and the 
late Henry Charles Klein. 

He was a resident of New Orleans for most of his life before moving to

The beloved husband of Judy Landrieu Klein, he is survived by two sons,

Christine, Alexandra Carle and Gabrielle Reider Klein; his brother, Henry L. 
Klein; one sister, Hedy Klein Boelte; three grandchildren: James Gabriel Hicks,

Vineyard Klein. He was preceded in death by his son Marshall Bernard Klein, the

Eva Senac Gement Alt passed away peacefully Monday morning, March 16th at 
Christwood Retirement Community.

Her large family celebrated her birthday of 95 years, on the 23rd of February 
2009. She is a native of New Orleans and a 66-year resident of St Tammany.

She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Paul Gement Sr. and Emile Alt 
Sr., her son Chester Gement and four siblings, Claire Senac Lenard, Jules 
Senac, Charles Senac, and Merle Senac Marshall.

She is survived by her children, Paul Gement Jr. and wife Margie of Mandeville, 
J'Nelle Gement Holland and husband Stephen of Santa Barbara CA, Janet Claire 
Alt Damare' and husband Jules of Abita Springs, Merle Alt Cabibi and husband 
Charles of Metairie, Emile Alt, Jr. and wife Linda of Huntsville, AL., Donald 
Alt and wife Judy of Covington, one younger sister, Carmel Senac Cull and 
husband Joseph of Covington, as well as 22 grandchildren, 48 great-
grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces. 
Eva was known for her sweet personality, good humor, generosity and caring for 
others. She enjoyed playing bridge and bingo and was known for her uncanny good 
fortune in these pastimes.

A gathering of family and friends for a time of remembrance will be held on 
Monday from 9-11 AM, followed by a funeral mass in the chapel at EJ Fielding 
Funeral Home 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433. In lieu of flowers,

GAINEY

Jewell Louise Sanarans Gainey of Slidell and Bastrop, Texas, escaped the bonds 
of Alzheimer's disease on Dec. 4, 2008. 

She passed away peacefully at Silver Pines Nursing Home in Bastrop with her 
devoted daughter, Betty Jean Jenkins, and loving granddaughter, Kristen Remeza, 
at her side.

Jewell was born in New Orleans in 1922. Her parents were Julia Pierce McCormick 
LeBlanc of Raceland and Jules Louis Sanarans of Charenton. She spent eight 
years of her childhood at the Poydras Female Orphan Asylum in New Orleans, 
until she ran away at age 10 to be with her mother and brothers. 

In 1943, she met and married Tom Gainey, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. They 
had two children, Betty Jean and Roy, and until 1957, lived in New Orleans, 
where they were active in the Bulldog Club of Louisiana and owned Crescent City 
Kennels. For the next 36 years they resided in Metairie, and in 1993, they 
moved to Slidell. Tom passed away in 1998 after a long struggle with cancer, 
and Jewell lived in her beautiful Slidell home for two more years before moving 
in with her daughter until 2006. Later, she resided at Greenbriar Nursing Home 
in Slidell and at Silver Pines in Bastrop.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Jean Gainey Jenkins and husband Sam; her 
son, Roy Gainey and wife Diane of Woolwich, Maine; five grandchildren, Kristen 
Jenkins Remeza, Nathan Gainey, Crystal Gainey Derocher, Danielle Gainey and 
Jennifer Gainey; and one great-grandchild, Katelynn Derocher.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Claudette McKneelan, whose 
kindness and gentleness will never be forgotten. Thanks also to the staff 
members of Greenbriar Nursing Home in Slidell and Silver Pines in Bastrop for 
their consideration and loving care. VistaCare Hospice was of great comfort 
during a very difficult time.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering at 6 p.m. on March 26, Jewell's 
birthday, at the home of her daughter in Bastrop. A video memorial paying 
tribute to this kind, loving and incredibly spunky woman will be followed by 
seafood gumbo, one of her signature dishes.

MACK

Retired educator, Sarah Janet Pollock Wyman-Mack, 87, passed away Feb. 24 - 
Mardi Gras 2009 - in the final stages of emphysema at St. Tammany Parish 
Hospital in Covington.

She was surrounded by her four loving children.

Sarah, the first of five children, was born in Providence, R.I., to Kenneth and 
Ethel Pollock in July 1921. The Pollocks moved to Lawrence, Mass., and then to 
Wilton, N.H., where she graduated from Wilton High School in 1939.

She graduated from Keene Teachers College in 1943 with a bachelor's degree in 
early childhood education. She taught school in Michigan prior to her marriage 
to Dr. Frederick L. Wyman in June of 1947. The Wymans raised their family in 
Rutland Vt. Dr. Wyman died June 1977.

Sarah went back to teaching in the Rutland Public School System, first as a 
substitute, then as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher, finishing her career as 
a principal. Sarah had earned her master's degree from Keene State College in 
1973. She retired at age 62 in 1983.

In 1983, she married James Mack and moved to Franklin, N.C. She resided there 
after his death in 1984 for a total of 16 years. 

After a serious medical crisis, Sarah relocated to New Orleans in 2000. She was 
a volunteer at Methodist Hospital in New Orleans East until displaced by 
Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She subsequently relocated to the Northshore of Lake 
Pontchartrain, living first with her daughter Judith in Covington and 
eventually moving to The Windsor Senior Living Community of Mandeville.

Sarah is survived by her four children, Robert H. Wyman of New Orleans, James 
K. Wyman of Wolfboro N.H., Jessanne Wyman of Essex Junction, Vt., and Judith 
Wyman of Covington; three of her four siblings, Wendell Pollock of Keene, N.H., 
Robert Pollock of Wilton, N.H., and Loretta Pollock of New London, Ct., 
(predeceased by brother Joseph Pollock of Wilton NH). She is also survived by 
four nephews, five nieces and her seven grandchildren: Jason and Ryan Cheney, 
Caitlin and Samantha Schrack, Melissa, Heather and Brendan Wyman.

A Celebration of Life memorial service and reception was held at The
Windsor on Feb. 28. A eulogy given by the Rev. David Ord, a close family friend 
and celebrated Unitarian minister. 

Interment will take place this summer in Keene, date and time to be announced.

August 6, 1919 in Madisonville to the late Camille and Georgiana Dupart 
Angeletti.

The beloved wife of the late Percy J. Baham, Sr., she is survived by one son, 
Percy J. Baham, Jr.; four daughters: Leatrice Baham, Larine B. Hart, Sylvia 
Baham and Maria B. Perrault; 21 grandchildren and a host of great-
grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded 
in death by three sons: Girard Baham, Sr., Derris and Arnold Baham.

Mrs. Baham was a seamstress known to the community, a life resident of 
Madisonville and dedicated parishioner of St. Anselm Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Effie Alice Chance Crow; his father,

Age 79 years, he was a native of Blackwell, AR and a resident of Sun, LA for 
the past 36 years. He was co-owner, with his brother, of Crow Redi-Mix formerly 
in Abita Springs, LA. He was a member and deacon of New Beginning Baptist 
Church in Bush, and was a United States Army Veteran having served during the 
Korean Conflict.

ERMERT

Raymond Herbez Ermert passed from his earthly home on March 17, 2009 at 9:50 
a.m. He was 87 years old.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Margery Miller Ermert, three daughters 
and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Stephen Lagarde, Judith and Kenneth Leggett, and 
Raylene Avocato; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Russell and Debi 
Avocato, Anthony and Brandy Avocato, Nicklas and Lisa Avocato, Vincent and 
Yvonne Avocato, Edward Joseph and Cynthia Moore, Todd Raymond Moore, Alden and 
Rachael Lagarde Bordelon, Andrew and Rebecca Lagarde Roberts; 14 great 
grandchildren, Collin, Hailee, and Chloe Avocato, Tyler and Trevor Avocato, 
Alyssa andHolly Avocato, Cyrus Avocato, Brandon Moore, Robert and Alex Moore, 
Asher, Maren and Tavin Bordelon.

He was preceded in death by his parents Karl Ferdinand Ermert and Caroline 
Herbez Ermert, and six siblings , Corrine St. Phillip, Mildred Arieau, Myrtle 
Campo, Karl Ermert, John Warren Ermert, & Milton Ermert.

Raymond was a resident of New Orleans for 51 years. He served his country in 
World War II in the Army's First Special Service Forces. Upon his return from 
service, he became the proprietor of The Busy Bee Shoe Repair Shop on Rampart 
Street.

In 1973, he moved with Margery to Goodbee where they resided for 32 years and 
attended St. John's Catholic Church.

Madisonville has been their home for the past 4 years where they attended St. 
Anselm Catholic Church.

Raymond was a member of Ozone Square Dance Club, The First Special Service 
Force Association, and American Legion Post 16.

Raymond will always be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, 
grandfather, and great grandfather. He loved his family and friends and lived 
life to the fullest. The family gives thanks to all who cared for and loved him 
in such a special way.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral. A Mass of Christian 
Burial will be held in the chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Road 
(Hwy 437), Covington on Saturday, March 21, at 2:30 PM.

Visitation will follow the Mass until 5:30 p.m. Graveside services will be

Russell E. Hardy, (The Rock), of Slidell, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 
2009, at Northshore Regional Medical Center.

He was the beloved husband of Josetta "Josie" Hardy for 46 years.

He was the father of Darrell and Mary L. Hardy, Donald and Ellie T. Hardy, 
Jeffrey and Ashley Hardy and Susan and Gerard Arieux.

He was the son and step-son of the late Ernest Hardy, Sr., Dora Miraglia, Nick 
Miraglia and Betty Hardy, and brother of Ernest Hardy, Jr., Russell Hardy, 
Arthur Hardy, Ann Hardy, Janet Williams and Barbara Judge.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Donald Hardy, Jr., Linsey Hardy, 
Beau Arieux, Ashton Arieux, Olivia Hardy, Brandon Hardy, Ethan Hardy, Isabella 
Hardy and Rebecca Hardy (due 03-31-09).

He was 69 years old and a native of New Orleans and resident of Slidell for the 
past 42 years,

Mr. Hardy was a retired firefighter for the Michoud Assembly Center in New 
Orleans. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a longtime parishioner 
of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Slidell.

DANOS

Joseph 'Jay' Adlard Danos, 82, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 
Forest Manor nursing home following a determined battle with cancer.

He is survived by three children, Scott Danos, Leigh Donaldson and Barbara 
Cranner; and six grandchildren, Brian Danos, Adam Danos, Lisa Donaldson, Gordon 
Cranner, Matthew Donaldson and Stuart Cranner. He is also survived by three 
siblings, Pauline Tuohy, Edith Kuebel and Robert Danos.

Danos was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the 
Philippines. He was a life-long resident of the New Orleans area, most recently 
living in Covington.

Jay attended LSU and Tulane.

He was well-known as a commercial real estate agent, restaurateur and dedicated 
outdoorsman.

The family offers special thanks to the caring staff of both Forest Manor and 
Hospice of St. Tammany. Plans are underway for a gathering of family and 
friends at which Jay will be remembered.

Ryan Joseph Eisler joined his Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 22, 2009.

He was born in New Orleans on October 6, 1977 to Raymond Joseph and Aleta 
Patorno Eisler and was a resident of Madisonville, LA. The beloved father of 
Marae Christine Eisler, he is survived by three sisters: Cherie E. Ourso 
(Barry), Karen E. Gardere (Larry) and Beth E. Legnon (Eddie). The grandson of 
Milton Patorno and the late Marie Hall Patorno, the late Raymond Joseph, Sr. 
and Octavia Lasalle Eisler, he was Uncle Ryan to: Devin Rivere, Olivia Ourso 
and Logan Gardere. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and 
friends.

Ryan was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 60 and was employed by 
Baudier Mechanical Contractors.

His loving, giving heart and playful smile will be sadly missed and in our 
hearts until we meet again.

the age of 97.

Daughter of the late Dena Hebert Wheat and George W. Wheat; sister of the late 
George W., Jr.

The beloved wife of the late Ralph G. Phillippi, she is survived by her son, 
Stephen W. Phillippi and his wife, Malvern; four grandchildren: Kathrine M. 
Phillippi-Falkenstein, Stephen W. Phillippi, Jr., Nicole P. Meyers and Michael 
L. Phillippi and seven great-grandchildren: Aaron C. Falkenstein, Jonah P.,

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for the past 40 years, Kay 
was executive secretary to the Vice President and General Manager and later the 
President of Jackson Brewery Co. for 37 years before retiring in 1969. She was 
a member of the Wharton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; 
the Winnie Davis Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy; the Capt. 
McPherson Chapter of the United Daughters of 1812; and the former Morgan 
Chapter of the Louisiana Colonials.

Betty Lee Keith, born Aug. 31, 1935, passed away into eternal rest March 23, 
2009, after a 10-year battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Belinda Kay Null, several brothers

She is survived by her husband, Cecil P. Keith; a son, Marvin Null with his 
wife Melanie and their two sons Christopher Adam and Jeffrey Michael; and 
daughter, Barbara Ann Cass with her two sons Patrick and Tony; a stepdaughter, 
Carrie Shriftman with husband Mark and two girls Sadie and Sailor; two 
stepsons, Sammy Keith and Steven Keith with wife Sam and their two girls Olivia 
and Tess; one surviving brother, Arthur Billings with wife Lynn and numerous 
nieces and nephews.

Keith was an active member of the Elks Auxiliary in Slidell. She had a passion 
for art. Her creative expression was evident in her work as a member of the 
Magnolia Chapter of Decorative Painters, Busy Brushes, Slidell Art League, 
Tachibana New Orleans Charter No. 97 and the Garden Gate and Westchester Garden 
Clubs. Her passion of life took her to many places and she danced into many 
hearts along the way.

W. Palmer and his wife Beth Guerin Palmer of Houston; grandchildren, Gregory 
Palmer Jr. and his wife Lindley Barbato Palmer of Orlando, Fla., Ashley Palmer 
Scott and her husband Matthew Scott of Athens, Ala., Jessica Palmer Pagel and 
her husband Caleb Pagel of Fort Myers, Fla., and Christopher Palmer and his 
wife Jenna Hanley Palmer of Lubbock, Texas; great-grandchildren, Spencer Thomas 
Scott, Gregory Lee Palmer III, Sydney Leigh Scott, Anne Calvert Palmer, Riley 
Elizabeth Pagel and Daniel Hampton Palmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gregory Palmer, and 
three brothers John Herman Palmer, Jack Palmer and Rufus Palmer of Amory, Miss.

In 1996 Palmer founded Metropolitan Hospice serving the New Orleans and Slidell 
area. During World War II, he served on active duty in the Pacific Theater with 
the U.S. Navy. He was an active member of Slidell Church of Christ Church.

Jack Henry Broyl, Sr. passed away on Friday, March 27, 2009.

Beloved husband of Mae Grosch Broyl for 37 years. Father of Jack "Jay" H. 
Broyl, Jr. and wife Robin and Bonnie Broyl Prickett and husband Tommy. Brother 
of the late Rosemary Broyl Thompson and husband Paul. Step-brother of the late 
Bill Wells, Sr. and wife Mary and Ray Wells and wife Joyce. Son of the late 
George Henry and Cora Binet Broyl. Step-son of the late Marion Wells Broyl. 
Also survived by five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren and his 
beloved Heime 2.

Age 88 years. A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Covington, LA for 
the past 37 years. He was Marketing Manager for Bell South for 38 years, 
graduated from LSU in 1943 with a degree in Arts and Science and a US Army 
Captain in WWII. He was a member of the LSU Alumni Association, K of C Council 
#3061 of Covington, lifetime member of the VFW #7286, American Legion #16, 
Association of R.O.B.'s of Tchefuncta and AT&T Pioneers.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass from 
E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on 
Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at 12 Noon. Visitation from 9:00 AM until service time. 
Interment in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Hospice of St. 
Tammany, 1202 S. Tyler St., Covington, LA 70433.

John Baptiste "JB" Dore Sr., 67, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009. He was 
a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen Lowther Dore; father of Sherylynn 
Taylor, John (Jay) Dore Jr., Pamela Payne and David Dore; son of the late John 
and Edith Dore; brother of Ann Palmer, Esther Price, Lester Dore and the late 
Daniel Allen Dore. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.

JB was retired from Boh Bros Construction after 32 years.

The funeral service was held Thursday Bagnell & Son Funeral Home in Covington. 
Interment followed in Abita Springs Cemetery.

Helen Louise Everette Kennedy, 69, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 
2009, at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of William T. Kennedy of Slidell; mother of Milton J. 
Kennedy of Slidell, Rebecca K. Bleker of Slidell and the late Justin Wayne 
Kennedy; mother-in-law of Kelly P. Kennedy, Terry V. Bleker and Michelle A. 
Kennedy; daughter of the late Jessie "Tucker" Everette and Inez Parker 
Everette; sister of Robert Graves Everette and the late Dorothy Sue Berry. She 
is also survived by nine grandchildren.

A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., and longtime resident of Slidell. She was a 
dedicated homemaker and "Mother to All."

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 11 a.m. today at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery), Slidell.

The Rev. Bessie Reynolds will be officiating. Interment will follow in Forest 
Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral time.

Pam Arsenaux; grandmother of Leslie, Kodey, Andrew and Seth.

John Robert Mitchell sailed to a distant shore on Friday, March 27, 2009. John 
was born April 15, 1926, in Mishawaka, Indiana.

He lived in Covington for the past 36 years. John loved hunting, fishing, a 
good cigar, cold beer and cold champagne. He knew when it was a good day for 
sailing. He loved life and a little black dog.

Son of the late John W. and Dorothy Daly Mitchell, he is survived by his loving 
wife of 60 years, Carola Dupont Mitchell, his brown eyed sweetheart, and his 
loving children and grandchildren, Catherine Gordon and her daughter Cassandra 
Costley, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; M.G. Finch and her husband, Jim Finch and 
their sons, Mitchell and Jack Finch of Atlanta, GA; Lynne Ring and her husband, 
Steven Ring, of Houston, Texas and her son, Jeremiah E. Woolsey, IV of Baton 
Rouge; William J. Mitchell, II and his wife Lisa Jetty Mitchell and their 
children, John A., Maggie E., and Adam J. Mitchell of Baton Rouge; Shawn 
Mitchell Andrus and her husband, Stuart Andrus, and their children, Ian, Reid, 
and Amelia Daly Andrus of Covington; Mimi Mitchell Williams and her husband, 
Tim Williams, and their children, Bobby and Hallie Dupont Williams, of Daytona 
Beach, Florida.

John retired from Bellsouth after 36 years and went on to teach Marketing for 
15 years at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. He served our country 
in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a charter member of the Riverwood 
Men's Club and served as Vice Commodore of the Pontchartrain Yacht Club. He was 
crowned King Juno XXVI.

The Mitchell family invites our friends to attend the Funeral Mass on 
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 1:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 
21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with a visitation on Wednesday from 11:00 AM 
until 1:00 PM.

A reception at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club, 140 Jackson St., Mandeville will 
follow the Mass.

PATCH

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. today in the McDonald Funeral Home 
Chapel for Maurice P. Patch, 73, of Slidell, who died Monday, March 23, 2009, 
in Slidell. 

Interment will be in the Old Palestine Cemetery under the direction of McDonald 
Funeral Home. The Rev. Jabe Fincher will officiate at the service.

A native of Picayune, Miss., Patch was a painter superintendent and a member of 
First Baptist Church of Nicholson and Jefferson No. 191 Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon M. Patch and Hattie Smith 
Patch; two daughters, Dawn Patch and Cynthia Patch; one sister: Erselle 
Meitzler; and one brother: Pernell Patch.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Poole Patch of Irvington, Ala.; his children, 
Karen Patch Montecino and her husband Manny of Slidell and Laurie Patch 
Entrekin of Pearl River; one brother, Bill Patch and his wife Maureen of 
Carriere, Miss.; three grandchildren: Melissa Entrekin, Joshua Entrekin and Dru 
Overstreet; and two stepchildren, Mary Fail, and her husband Joe of Dauphin 
Island, Ala., and Willie Wilcox and his wife Virginia of Temple Hills, Md.

MEYER, ETHEL M. 
(August 16, 1916 - March 29, 2009)

Ethel M. Meyer, 92, died on March 28, 2009 in Louisiana, peacefully, after a 
brief illness.

Born on August 16, 1916 in Craigs Township, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, 
she came to America on September 16, 1937. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles E. Meyer, having been married on 
September 12, 1942. They resided in Watervliet for over 50 years, raised a 
family before moving to Colonie, N.Y. and then to Mandeville, LA. Ethel was a 
wonderful homemaker, and was an avid reader who enjoyed spending time with 
friends and family. She will be missed.

Survivors include her devoted children, Carol Meyer Allen of Mandeville, La. 
and Richard Meyer of Simsbury, Conn.; cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Allen 
Nunmaker of Houston, Texas, Jennifer Allen of Atlanta, Ga., Donald and Nicholas 
Meyer of Colonie, and Christopher Meyer of Simsbury; treasured great-grand-son, 
Robert "Tee" Nunamaker of Houston. Also surviving is Ethel's sister, Dorothy 
Davies who resides in England.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Bowen 
& Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY followed by 
interment in Memory's Garden.

Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the American Heart Association, 
445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.

GIVENS

Inez Givens (Bertaut), born June 4, 1924, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at her 
home in Ringgold, Ga.

Inez was a long time resident of Slidell and Pearl River and worked until 
retirement at the former Boyet Elementary School. She was a member of Pearl 
Acres Baptist Church in Slidell. She was preceded in death by her husband Cabe 
Givens; and by two of her daughters, Shelby Givens Burger and Brenda Givens 
Roney.

Inez is survived by two brothers, J.R. Alexander of Clayton and Bill Alexander 
of Walker. She is also survived by a son, Tom Givens of Salem, Ala., and two 
daughters, Linda Odom of Ringgold, Ga., and Patsy Covington of Topeka, Kan. She 
leaves 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and others who adored 
her and whom she loved in return. She is sadly missed.

MULLIGAN, GLORIA MARGARET WEBB

Gloria Margaret Webb Mulligan, a native of Alexandria and a resident of 
Covington since 1950, died peacefully at the age of 83 in her home on Monday, 
March 30, 2009.

Gloria was the only child of John and Maude Wells Webb.

Gloria went to school in Alexandria for several years prior to her family's 
move to New Orleans. 

While in New Orleans, she finished High School and then attended Charity 
Hospital School of Nursing for her initial nurse's training. Gloria completed 
her nurse's training as a Registered Nurse at Lakeshore Hospital. 

It was at Lakeshore Hospital that she met Dr. Raymond F. Mulligan, who became 
her husband in 1948. 

Gloria served our country as a Nurse Cadet during the Korean War while her 
husband was in the Naval Reserve. 

After their marriage, they moved to Rhode Island. When Dr. Mulligan returned 
from Korea, the family moved to Covington. Gloria was busy raising her family, 
but was always available to help out at the clinic that her husband and Dr. 
Jake Kety had in Madisonville, LA. That clinic was in the now historic building 
that was the former St. Tammany Parish Library. 

In 1955 Gloria was suddenly left as a widow when her husband was killed in an 
airplane crash. Dr. Mulligan has been a Physician for the Civil Air Patrol at 
the time of the accident. Gloria was left with 5 children, ranging in age from 
6 years old to 4 months old. 

One year after Dr. Mulligan's death, Gloria purchased the Riverside Inn on 
Boston Street in Covington. Gloria and her mother, Maude Webb, ran the 
restaurant for 17 years. Gloria always said, "If nothing else, my children 
won't starve!" When her youngest child graduated from high school, Gloria quit 
the restaurant business and returned to her first love, nursing. Three months 
later she went to work for St. Tammany Home Health where she worked until 
retirement. She worked as a filed RN, a Supervisor, then as Director. She late 
did public relations and marketing as well as running the blood pressure 
clinic.

Gloria was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club and had held 
every office in the club, including President. She was elected as BPW Women of 
the Year in 1982. She was one of the founders of Playmakers of Covington and 
Lurline Smith Mental Health Center in Mandeville. She was a member of the 
Chamber of Commerce, the Covington Garden Club, Louisiana State Nurse's 
Association and a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Gloria loved family above all else, and her greatest pleasure was being 
surrounded by her loved ones. She loved traveling, ballroom dancing and her 
beloved pets, Ginger and Little Bit. Gloria was an exceptional woman who was 
thought by all to be a true lady. An irreplaceable gem, she had a huge heart 
and a kind, gentle soul. Gloria's sweet smile, soft voice and determined spirit 
were the very essence of who she was.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maude Webb, her husband 
Dr. Ray Mulligan, her half-brother, JW Webb, Jr. (Joyce) and her daughter, 
Patricia Eileen Mulligan. She is survived by her children, Raymond Francis II 
(Terrie), John Thomas (Carrie), Michael Webb (Julie), and Barbara Mulligan, a 
loving niece, Elizabeth (Tom) Bergeron, 10 grandchildren and 8 great-
grandchildren and countless friends. Gloria was the best wife, mother, 
grandmother, mother-in-law and friend anyone could ask for.

The Mulligan family invites relatives and friends to attend the funeral service 
from E.J. Fielding Funeral Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 
on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM. Visitation on Thursday from 6:00 PM until 
9:00 PM and again on Friday from 9:00 AM until service time.

Interment in Garden of the Pines Cemetery, Covington.

Robert Joseph Belloni passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009. 

He was born April 3, 1941 in New Orleans to the late Nathaniel Frank and Ethel 
Heider Belloni and has been a resident of Abita Springs since 1979.

The beloved husband of Haydee Bothe Belloni, he is survived by his son, Robert 
J. Belloni, Jr.; three daughters: Robyn B. Porretto, Amy B. Wagner, Becky B. 
Miller and her husband Mark (Jay) Miller, II; one brother, Kenneth J. Belloni; 
his sister, Ethel B. Tarleton; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson. 

He was preceded in death by one brother, Nathaniel F. Belloni, Jr.

A graduate of St. Aloysius, class of 1960, Robert owned and operated Robert's 
Hardware from 1979 until his retirement in 2006. He also served his country in 
the U.S. Navy from 1960-1963.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services on 
Friday, April 3, 2009 at 12:00 Noon from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral

Joseph Palazzolo passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at the residence of his 
daughter in Covington, LA.

Beloved father of Joyce P. Chiusano, Barbara P. Marullo and her husband A.P., 
Cynthia P. Kern and her husband Melvin; loving grandfather to Jerry, Tony, Jay, 
Gina, Nicolle, Jude, A.P., III, LeaJeana, Michael and Maria; great-grandfather 
to Stephanie, CherieLynn, Gabrielle, Eddie, Elizabeth, Eli, Brittany and Rocco; 
great-great-grandfather to Ethan and Theresa; and brother of Pauline Voiron. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Emma Campione Palazzolo; his 
son, Jerome Palazzolo; his mother, Zula Dovie Palazzolo; his father, Antonio 
Palazzolo; a son-in-law, Anthony Chiusano; five brothers, Nick, Vick, Sammy, 
Santo and Angelo Palazzolo; and a sister, Mary Russo.

Age 100 years, he was native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Covington, LA 
for the past four years. He was the owner and operator of Pal's Barber Shop on 
Caton Street in New Orleans. His career as a barber began in New Orleans at the 
age of 14 where he practiced most of his life, except for a short time in New 
York across from the Empire State Building.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian 
Burial on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 1:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 
East 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.

Visitation AT THE CHURCH will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday. Interment will 
follow in All Saints Mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery.
