Lilo Garske Burns passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009. She was born April 3, 
1947 in Hamburg, Germany and has been a resident of St. Tammany since 1973.

The beloved wife of Thomas M. Burns, II, she is survived by her mother, 
Luieselotte Strohschein Garske; her daughter, Heidi Luiese Burns; one step-son, 
Thomas M. Burns, III; her brother, Klaus Garske and two granddaughters, Claire 
and Emily Burns.

Private committal services were held at the Burns' Chubby Hill Cemetery in 
Folsom.

Shirley Smith Cole entered in eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the age of 
68 after her battle with pancreatic cancer. 

A native of Metairie she resided in Covington for the past 45 years. 

The beloved wife of Ernest J. Cole, Sr., she is survived by one brother, Walter 
E. Smith, Jr. (Norma) of Metairie; three children: Susan Hargroder (Michael) of 
Dumfries, VA, Rebecca Cole of Mandeville, Ernie, Jr. (Ellen) of Covington and 
four grandchildren: Lydia Hargroder, Savanna, Mason, Caroline and Spencer Cole. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. and Mercedes Tharpe Smith; 
one brother, George Smith; her daughter, Vicki Cole Hartong and one 
granddaughter, Chandler Cole Prudhomme.

Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and friend known for her thoughtful 
gestures, sweet personality, good humor, and genuine caring for others. She 
will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking, finding the perfect gift for 
any occasion, her uncanny luck at cards with the girls and her warm hugs.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass on 
Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 
2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433.

A wake is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2009 from 6-9:00 PM, with visiting hours 
beginning Tuesday at 9:00 AM.

Interment will follow mass at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.

COPPOLA

Joseph Coppola Jr., 73, of Slidell, died on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at Slidell 
Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Hill Coppola for 49 years; father of James 
Joseph Coppola, Jeannette Coppola Kleck and the late Joanne Mary Coppola 
Kaufmann; son of the late Joseph Coppola and Eleanora Dudenhefer; and brother 
of Beverly Mueller and the late George Ruiz. He is also survived by five 
grandchildren, Candace Kaufmann, Kyle Kaufmann, Jake Kaufmann, Austin Kleck and 
Alex Kleck. He is the father-in-law of Fabious "Buck" Kleck and Stephen 
Kaufmann; and brother-in-law of Ernest Mueller, Nettie and Sam Burguieres. He 
is also survived by nieces nephews and other relatives.

Coppola was a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Lake Catherine. 
He was a commercial fisherman who loved the lake and to hunt and fish. He was a 
very generous and loving person. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. 
Matthew 4:19, Come with Me and I will make you fishers of men.

Relatives, friends of the family, and employees of Pomes Seafood, are invited 
to attend the funeral services at noon today at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 
Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 
a.m. until funeral time.

Rita Pizzitola Favorita, 82, of Slidell, died Sunday, April 26, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of the late Peter E. Favorita Jr. and mother of Peter 
J. Favorita (Shannon T.) and Linda J. Hoffman (Edward). She is also survived by 
two grandchildren, Charlene D. Jurich (Anthony) and Kathryn Rose Favorita, and 
one great-granddaughter, Anna Marie Jurich.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1978.

Gerard "Gerry" Lamy passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009.

Beloved husband of 60 years to Marie Mustacchia Lamy; loving father of Patricia 
Kymen and her husband Blake, Theresa Pansano and her husband Nolan, Robert E. 
"Bobby" Lamy and his wife Amy, Catherine Nagem and her husband Dr. Edmund, Tami 
Lamy-McDevitt and her husband Jim, and Mary Elizabeth Ferguson and her husband 
John; grandfather to Blakely, Kristin, Meredith, Allison, Caroline, Ross, 
Catherine, Caitlin, Bailey, Brendan, Elizabeth, Sarah and Rogers; and brother 
to Father Robert Lamy and Mary Alice Hambliton. He is also survived by numerous 
nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle McWhorter Lamy; his father, 
William James Lamy; a grandson, Salvadore Anthony Rabito; a brother, William 
James Lamy; and a sister, Rose Claire McNamara. 

Age 82 years, he was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Covington, 
LA for the past 50 years. He was a salesman with Exxon Oil Company for over 40 
years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian 
Burial at St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 East 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 
on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 3:00 PM.

Visitation AT THE CHURCH will begin at 1:00 PM on Monday.

MANGUS

Raymond Virgil Mangus Sr., 84, passed on April 27, 2009. 

He was born in Denver, Colo., on Dec. 17, 1924. 

He was a Naval veteran who served during World War II in the Pacific Theater 
earning two battle stars. He graduated from Colorado University as an 
electrical engineer.

He retired from Lockheed-Martin where he worked in the aerospace and military 
arms divisions. He was a long time resident of of Slidell, who moved to Hammond 
two years ago. 

He was married to Mary Mangus for 56 years. He is survived by his five 
children, Raymond Mangus Jr., of Florida; Kay Holmes, Charles, Patrick & John 
Mangus and five grandchildren.

Visitation was yesterday at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond. 
Services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, today at 11 a.m. with the 
Rev. Randy Cuevas, S.T.L. officiating.

Interment will follow in the Port Hudson National Cemetery in Zachary.

SCOGIN

Gerald "Jerry" Scogin, 77, of Slidell, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 
at his residence.

He was the beloved husband of Norma McNeill Scogin; father of Sherry Bass 
(Tommy), Gerald Mack Scogin and Jan Scogin Bell (Ronnie); brother of Marvin 
Scogin, the late Russell, Clifton, Oscar Lee, Ellis, Edward and Doris Scogin. 
He is also survived by two grandchildren, Joey Hennessey and Marc Budyach; and 
four great-grandchildren, Camron, Alexis, Hayley and Addison.

Scogin was a native and lifelong resident of Slidell. He retired from Western 
Electric after 30 years and was an avid golfer.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 1 p.m. Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery), Slidell, followed by interment.

The Rev. Wybra Price will officiate. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to funeral

BRIGHAM

Mary "Molly" Perryman Brigham, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert M. Brigham; mother of Anne Louise 
Crull (Jonas Butkus) and Barbara Griffin (Dr. Jeffrey Griffin); sister of Jack 
A. Perryman and Patricia Anne Cook; and grandmother of Alister Banks Griffin, 
Arthur Kyle Griffin and the late Jon David Crull.

She was a native of Eunice, a former resident of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 
Seville and Madrid, Spain, New Orleans and Slidell for many years.

She was a volunteer at Slidell Memorial Hospital for many years, where she was 
a member of its scholarship committee and served as membership chairman for the 
hospital auxillary.

She was a member of T.R.O.A. Ladies Auxiliary and active in the St. Tammany 
Literacy Program and Christian Community Concern. She was a parishioner of St. 
Margaret Mary Catholic Church and an active member of AARP Chapter 4716 and its 
Doll Restoration program.

Her hobbies were fishing and gambling, with big fish and small wagers.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service 
at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), 
Slidell, at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009. Interment will be in Biloxi National

LA residence.

wife Kimberly, Jeffrey Dwaine Jones and his wife Vickie, and Faith Elizabeth

Louis J. Burg II.

great-great-grandchild and was preceded in death by one grandchild.

TILLEY

Fred L. Tilley, a longtime resident of Slidell and then of Abita Springs, a 
summa cum laude alumni of Tulane University with a master's degree in Civil 
Engineering, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, eldest son of L. N. Tilley 
and Mary Ryan Tilley, adopted son of Madeleine Tilley, passed away on the 
morning of Feb. 17, 2009 in Baton Rouge, at age 73.

He is survived by his three daughters, Melynda Tilley, Jennifer Tilley, and 
Heather Tilley, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Fred generously 
donated his earthly remains to Tulane University for medical research.

A memorial gathering will be held at the home of his sister, Michele Tilley 
Fry, on May 9, from 1:30-3 p.m., 12380 Old Hammond Highway, Baton Rouge. (225)

WAGUESPACK

Odell Hall Waguespack, 77, of Pearl River, passed away with her family by her 
side on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Northshore Regional Medical Center.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph Gerald Waguespack (married 58 years); mother 
of two sons, David J. (Kathleen) Waguespack and Allen R. Waguespack, and one 
daughter, Anita T. Waguespack, all of Slidell; and sister of the late Geraldine 
H. Bassett.

She is also survived by four grandchildren: David C. Waguespack, Heidi 
Wichterich, Nicole Marquette and Michael Waguespack; five great-grandchildren 
and many nieces and nephews.

A native of Rapides Parish, longtime former resident of Slidell, and resident 
of Pearl River for four years, she was a dedicated homemaker.

YATES

Robert Lynn Yates, 71, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at his 
home in Slidell.

He was beloved husband of Derrel Court Yates for the past 50 years; loving 
father of Suzanne Y. Pergola and husband Michael, Scott M. Yates and wife 
Jeanette, Jean Rene Halbert and husband Myron, Bryan P. Yates, David C. Yates 
and wife Jamie; son of the late Francis L. Yates and Margaret Welsh Yates; and 
brother of Patricia Y. Geier, Raymond B. Yates, Kathleen F. Yates, Linda Y. 
Paul and the late Margaret M. Holiday.

[She] was also survived by 19 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a longtime former resident of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell 
since 1977. Yates was a retired captain in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated 
from the University of Oklahoma and received his MBA from Texas A&M University. 
Prior to serving in the U.S. Air Force, Yates served four years in the U.S. 
Marine Corps.

Services were held Saturday, May 2, 2009, at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell.

Interment will be on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Biloxi National 
Cemetery, Biloxi, Miss.

Donations to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church of Slidell Capital Campaign

Julia Mori Bell passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009 at the age of 83.

She is survived by sisters, Emma Totten, Mary Nishimura, Anna Mori and Isabel 
Breaux and a brother, Norman Mori. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Bell; her parents, T. Joseph Mori 
and Ellen B. Mori; siblings, Takeshi Mori, George Mori and Paul Mori.

Mrs. Bell was a native of Japan and a resident of Abita Springs, LA where she 
was a member of The 3rd Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and The Confraternity 
of the Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on 
Friday, May 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church in Abita 
Springs with visitation at church from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment will 
follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie.

Carl H. Jenkins passed away on Monday, May 4, 2009. 

He was born September 2, 1922 to the late Rusaw and Agnes Fitzmorris Jenkins 
and has been a life resident of St. Tammany Parish.

The beloved husband of the late Gertrude Mendow Jenkins, he is survived by 
three daughters: Judy J. Cazaux (Lester), Barbara J. Sharp (Kenzie) and Marsha 
J. Carter (Wayne); his sister, Clara J. Danenhower; one brother, Harold R. 
Jenkins; one son-in-law, Richard McCary; nine grandchildren: Joseph Sharp, 
JoLynne Buckerfield, Jennifer Perilloux, JacLynn Dobraska, Aaron and Travis 
Sharp, Stephanie Carter, Conner and Logan McCary and five great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by two children, Sandra J. McCary and Carl Keith 
Jenkins; three sisters: Volyen Jenkins, Camille J. Dennis and Norma J. 
Metevier.

He worked at the Higgins Ship Yard fabricating the Higgins Boat prior to 
joining the Marines in 1942. During WWII he was a Marine Raider until his 
discharge in 1945.

FRIERSON

Timothy Shane Frierson, 30, of North Augusta, S.C., the beloved husband of 
Ginny Risher Frierson, died Friday, May 1, 2009.

Born in Slidell, he was a local resident since 1991. Shane was a 1997 graduate 
of Midland Valley High School and had been employed at Bridgestone as a machine 
technician for the last three years. He attended True North Church. 

Shane enjoyed playing video games, watching wrestling, playing a round of golf 
and riding his motorcycle and was an avid LSU fan. Shane enjoyed all the things 
previously listed but more than anything, he enjoyed playing and spending time 
with his children.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Timothy T. Frierson, 
(fiancˇ Karla Jones) Talisheek; stepmother, Mary Frierson, Slidell; mother, 
Vickie Lee, Slidell; stepfather, Steve Lee, Trenton, S.C.; children, Hunter 
Elizabeth Frierson and Dylan Trevor Frierson; siblings, Randy Lee (Janet) 
Madisonville, Tenn,, Michelle Lee, Trenton, S.C., Kayla Renee Johnson, Slidell 
and Shelbi Jean Frierson, Slidell; grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Frierson, Pearl 
River; father and mother-in-law, Johnny and Virginia Johnson, Edgefield, S.C.;

Pallbearers were Randy Lee, Shawn Risher, Cody Johnson, Alex Spinks, Michael 
Riedie and Cole Gilbreath.

The family has suggested that memorials in memory of Shane be made to a college 
fund that will be set up for his children, Hunter and Dylan.

Edgar Adam "Poochie/Buck" Johnson Jr. entered into eternal rest Wednesday, 
April 29, 2009, at LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa. 

He was a native of Reserve and a resident of Slidell for many years.

He was the beloved husband of Lula Mae Johnson; son of the late Edgar Sr. and 
Sedonia Weston Johnson; and father of Zachary (Shalanda) Johnson, Janice 
(Billy) Odom, Eileen (Shawn) Johnson, Tonya (James) Johnson and the late Edgar 
Allen (Renee) Johnson. 
He is also survived by his brothers, Phillip (Lugene), Carl Sr. (Barbara), 
Calvin Sr. (Allison) and Dwight Johsnon, all of Reserve; sisters, Sandra 
Hawkins and Gretchen Johnson, both of Reserve, Paulette Warner of Arlington, 
Texas, and Stella Mae White of LaPlace; 12 grandchildren; nine great-
grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and 
friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at

John E. Kelly Jr., 74, of Choctaw, Ark., formerly of Slidell, passed away 
Friday, May 1, 2009.

He was the son of the late Agnes Kelly and John Perez Kelly of New Orleans;

He is survived by his wife, Doris, and four stepchildren, Carla Byrd (Steve), 
Karen Ashe, Johnny Banks and Ronnie Banks (Jerri Ann.) He was the father of 
Shawn Kelly Huguet (Mitch) and John J. Kelly (Crystal) and Michael James Kelly.

He was a retiree of the Sheetmetal Workers Local No. 11 of New Orleans.

Honaker Funeral Home of Slidell will handle interment, with a private ceremony

LABATUT

Virginia-Ruth Weinfurter Labatut, 91, died peacefully on May 1, 2009, and is 
now resting with the Lord. 

A native of New Orleans and resident of Slidell, Ruth was a parishioner of St. 
Dominic's Catholic Church and St. Raphael Catholic Church in New Orleans, St. 
Claire Catholic Church, Waveland, Miss., and St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic 
Church of Slidell.

Some of her most memorable times were spent with large gatherings of friends 
and family at her summer home in Waveland, Miss. She was most proud of her more 
than 50 years of service in the LSDAR as a charter member of the Robert Harvey 
Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and member of the St Tammany 
Chapter.

She served twice as Regent, President of Regents Council District IV, and 
Treasurer of State Regents Club LSDAR. Ruth was also a charter member of The 
Busy Bee Club (Gentilly) and member of the St Dominic KC Auxiliary, the St 
Bernard Genealogical Club, and the St. Luke Senior Citizens.

Ruth was the daughter of Mercedes Caroline Legier and William Van Weinfurter, 
who preceded her in death. She was the beloved wife for 50 years of the late 
Lloyd H. Labatut Sr. Her children, Lloyd H. Labatut, II, Cherie Labatut 
Dorning, Richard D. Labatut, daughter-in-law Karen Hilker Labatut and former 
daughter-in-law Jewel Skaer will miss her greatly. Her granddaughters, Melissa 
Noelle Labatut of Los Angeles and Slidell and Caroline Lashley Dorning of 
Huntsville, Ala.; and her stepgrandchildren Sarah Gloria Myers and Jacob 
Woodrow Myers will miss the love and affection of their MeMere. Ruth was the 
sister of the late Miriam R. Weinfurter Drez and Robert Legier Weinfurter. She 
was the loving aunt of Robert L. Weinfurter Jr. and William V. Weinfurter II of 
Florida and many nieces and nephews. 

Ruth generously offered herself to the LSU Anatomical Bureau to further medical 
advancements.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ruth's life at 9:30 a.m. Saturday 
with a Mass following at 11:30 a.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 
Canal St., New Orleans.

Joseph C. "Joe" McMahan Jr., 64, of Slidell, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 
2009, at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Dixie Lee Fiveash McMahan and father of Joseph C. 
McMahan III and his wife Ashley L. McMahan and Chandler K. McMahan. He was the 
son of the late Joseph C. McMahan Sr. and Zela McDaniel McMahan and brother of 
Bobbie French, Mary Waller and Marion Black. He is also survived by three 
grandchildren, Alexandra McMahan, Preston Joseph McMahan and Madeline McMahan.

He was a native of Orange, Texas, and a resident of Slidell since 1976; Joe 
served his country in the U.S. Army and was the golf coach at Northlake 
Christian School.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services

Alice Richardson Grinnell passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2009 surrounded by 
her loving family.

She was born on January 23, 1937 to Agnes Gladys Rayburn Richardson and Griffin 
"Mac" Richardson. Beloved wife of Melvin J. Grinnell for 47 years; loving 
mother of Barry F. Grinnell, Don E. Grinnell and Terri Grinnell Fogarty; loving 
mother-in-law to Lora L. Grinnell, Barb B. Grinnell and Richard M. Fogarty; 
devoted grandmother to Barry, Braden and Brant Grinnell; Grayson Grinnell; and 
Reese and Reagan Fogarty. She was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita 
Parker Bossier; and her brother, Clyde Hoyt Richardson.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Mandeville, LA, graduating from 
Mandeville High School in 1955. She retired from the St. Tammany Parish School 
Board where she was secretary of Mandeville Middle School for 25 years, prior 
to that she served as executive assistant to the Superintendent at Southeast 
Louisiana Hospital in Mandeville.

Lt. Col. Victor L. Dognibene, (Ret.), 90, of Slidell, passed into eternal life 
on Sunday, April 26, 2009, in Slidell.

Dognibene was born in New Orleans on April 26, 1919, and resided in Slidell for 
the past 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry L. and Frances Dognibene, and a 
brother Henry F. Dognibene.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Darcy Dognibene; daughters, Terry 
Smith (Bruce) and Sharon Scarpelli (Carl); grandchildren, Kim Plescia, Anthony 
C. Plescia III (Karen), Kerrie Plescia Finnegan (Jim), Gregory Scarpelli 
(Noelle) and Matthew Scarpelli; great-grandchildren, Claude B. Scarpelli, 
Michelle L. Finnegan, James G. Finnegan IV, Justin M. Finnegan, Anthony C. 
Plescia IV and Kevin M. Plescia; and nieces and nephews.

Vic graduated from Fortier High School, attended LSU, as well as SELU, at the 
age of 70. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, serving as a B-17 lead crew 
pilot, and later became a member of MOAA.

Dognibene was a board member of Friends of the Library. As an environmentalist, 
Vic crewed for Jean-Michel Cousteau in Roatan-Honduras and traveled Costa Rica 
for the environment.

Private military services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery. A memorial 
Mass will be announced at a later date.

Dennie Lee Irvin, 73, was born August 23, 1935, in Lakeland, (Pointe Coupee 
Parish) to the late Willie and Doretha Irvin. He accepted Christ at an early 
age.

Educated in the Baton Rouge School System, Dennie graduated from Capitol High 
School. He continued his education at Southern University of Baton Rouge prior 
to joining the U.S. Air Force.

He met his future bride Emelda McMooin on a Wednesday and they were engaged on 
a Saturday. They were married on December 29, 1967.

Dennie joined Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of 
Rev. Isiah Avery. As a faith member, Dennie served in several capacities 
including Sunday school teacher, choir member, and head of the Usher Board.

Dennie was preceded in death by his son Dennie Lee Ervin II (Ellen Ervin 
Lafayette - former wife) and sister Patricia Ann Irvin-Severan; three sisters-
in-law Dorothy Bezue, Vernell Javery and Neorlean McMooain; four brothers-in-
law Daniel Richardson, George Kelly, Manny Bezue and Earl Javery.

Rejoicing in his loving memory are his wife Emelda McMooain Irvin; daughter 
Necole, son Sustin (Mimi Todd), two grandsons Sustin II and Rason Lee; one aunt 
Carrie Burr; two brothers Theodis and Lee (Camile); one sister Nancy Faye-
Sterling and their families; five brothers-in-law Wilford (Anna), Charlie,

Rita Hingle passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009. She was born June 22, 1919 to 
the late Edward C. and Johanna Touchard Dorvin and was a lifelong resident of 
New Orleans.

The beloved wife of the late James L. Hingle, Sr., she is survived by her 
daughter, Diane H. Anding; two sons, James L. Hingle, Jr. and Thomas J. Hingle;

She was preceded in death by one son, Gerard L. Hingle and her sister, Lithia

Mrs. Hingle was a homemaker who received the St. Louis Medallion for service to

Bernyce "Bee" Nelson Wilson entered into eternal glory on Saturday, May 9, 2009 
after an extended illness.

"Bee", as she was known to her family and friends, was a remarkable, self-
sacrificing, spiritually motivated woman who met life's challenges knowing that 
ultimately she would be welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus 
Christ.

Born in Monticello, Mississippi on March 4, 1924, the daughter of Alma and W. 
Herman Nelson, she has been a resident of Covington, Louisiana for the past 47 
years.

She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 60 years, Joseph Vandorn 
"Van" Wilson, Jr. She was the loving mother of Joseph (Joey) Vandorn Wilson, 
III (wife Susan) of Covington, LA, Stephen Andrew Wilson (wife Claire) of Baton 
Rouge, LA. Grandchildren: Rachel Wilson Dube (husband Dennis) of Brentwood, CA, 
Andrew Wilson (wife Brooke) of Nashville, TN, the late Ensign Van Wilson, USN 
of Baton Rouge, LA, Abigail Wilson (fiance' Justin Newton) of Costa Mesa, CA, 
Blake Wilson of Kerrville, TX, Grace Wilson of Tahoe City, CA. Great-
grandchildren, Emma and Henry Dube and Caleb Wilson. She is also survived by 
her sister, Betty Langston (husband James) of Winder, GA. Her brother, W.C. 
Nelson of Monticello, MS preceded her in death.

"Bee" enjoyed sewing, needlework, cooking, gardening, restoring and refinishing 
furniture. She was a member of the St. Tammany Hospital Guild and led its Candy 
Striper Program. "Bee" was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, youth leader 
and actively served in various ministries of Covington Presbyterian Church. Her 
greatest joy in life was her family. She will be deeply missed by the many 
lives she touched. The family joins in thanks and offers blessings to Catherine 
McCoy for her years of faithful, Godly service and friendship. The family also 
expresses gratitude to the staff of Heritage Manor of Mandeville and Terri 
Brown for the care they have rendered to "Miss Bee".

Vincent Joseph Famularo Jr., 84, of Slidell, passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, 
at Lacombe Nursing Home.

He was the beloved husband of Audrey Bienvenu Famularo; father of Christine F. 
Jourdan, Vincent J. Famularo III and Kerry J. Famularo; and son of the late 
Vincent J. Famularo and Genevieve Callahan Famularo. He is also survived by 
five grandchildren, Idun-Cara Jourdan Byers and Kirk, Taya, Stacy and Kerry 
Famularo Jr.; and four great grandchildren, Cara Christine Jourdan-Byers and 
Zachary, Nicolle and Giovanni Famularo.

Famularo was a native of New Orleans, and he served his country in the U.S. 
Navy during World War II. Famularo was a former route salesman for Tip Top 
Bakery in New Orleans and later was employed by K&B Drug Stores.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 
11 a.m. Monday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery), Slidell.

HASKINS

Kim Purdy Haskins, 52, of Slidell passed away at her home Thursday, May 7, 2009 
surrounded by family. 

Mrs. Haskins was born July 31, 1956 in Pascagoula, Miss., to Gerald and Margie 
Purdy. 

She was a 1975 graduate of Pascagoula High School. She met and married Jerry 
Haskins in October of 1979. In 1984 the Haskins moved to Slidell where Kim 
taught pre-school at Appletree for 15 years. She was a member of St Margaret 
Mary's Catholic Church in Slidell. She enjoyed camping and hiking. Although she 
lost her battle with cancer she remained victorious in life and will be deeply 
missed.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Haskins; son, Kyle Haskins; daughter, 
Ashley Haskins all of Slidell; her father, Jerry Purdy ( Ann) of Pascagoula, 
Miss.; her mother, Marjorie M. George of Ocean Springs, Miss.; two brothers, 
Gill Purdy ( Blanche) of Mandeville and Keith Purdy (Barbara) of Daphne, Ala.; 
three sisters, Cindy Canady (Randy) of Ocean Springs, , Toni Lindgren ( John) 
of Pascagoula and Ginger Christian (Kenny) of Atlanta,; mother-in-law Dorothy 
Haskins of Foley, Ala.; sister-in-law Ginger Placente of Loxley, Ala.; 
brothers-in-law, Kenny Haskins (Mona) of Meridian, Miss., Joe Haskins (Telena) 
of Pace, Fla. and Bruce Haskins (Bobbie) of Destin, Fla. and a multitude of 
nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service was held at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church on Friday 
with the Rev. Paul Augustin officiating. 
Funeral Service were Saturday, May 9, 2009 at at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home 
in Pascagoula, Miss. with the Rev. Bernard Ferrell officiating. 
Interment followed in Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula.

Alfred Trinkle passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009.

Beloved father of Lynn Barbara Trinkle Truxillo and her husband Charles; and 
loving grandfather to April Truxillo. He was preceded in death by his parents, 
Frank and Theresa Trinkle; and a brother, Rudolph Trinkle.

Age 81 years, he was a native of Koenigsdorf, Austria and a resident of 
Madisonville, LA for the past 15 months. A United States Marine Corp Veteran, 
he served during World War II. He worked for the Allentown Morning Call 
Newspaper in Allentown, PA from 1948 to 1980, at which time he retired as Vice-
President of the newspaper.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service

Beloved husband of 36 years to Linda Manasco Ellis; loving father of Lawrence 
Hurst Ellis, III and his wife Tiffany, Lesley Ellis Cruit and her husband 
Jason, and Ashley Ellis Willis and her husband Keith; grandfather to Aaron, 
Chandler, Marley, Spencer, Noah, Emily and Hayden; and brother of Col. Frank 
Ellis and his wife Jacque. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise 
Anderson Ellis and his father, Lawrence Hurst Ellis, Sr.

Age 62 years, he was a native of McComb, MS and a resident of Covington, LA for 
the past eight years. A United States Army Veteran, he served during the 
Vietnam Era. He was a graduate of McComb High School and Ole Miss University. A 
published author, he was the owner of Business Resources and was employed by 
Rouses Supermarket in Mandeville.

Dorothy June Adams, 78, passed away Friday May 8, 2009, at Slidell Memorial 
Hospital. 

She was a longtime member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Slidell.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Adams Sr.; four children, Phil Adams 
Jr., Billy Adams, David Adams and Gale Funck; a brother, John Louis Humphries 
Jr.; and a sister, Gloria Jean Humphries. She is also survived by seven 
grandchildren, Daryl, Bryan, Jamie, Erica, Josh, Emily and Beth; and a 
grandchild, Devin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jimmie Sr., and a sister, 
Noreen Boren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Grace Memorial Baptist Church.

SCHIFFERS

Gottfried Schiffers, 94, of Lacombe, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009.

He was the beloved husband of the late Louise Barbier Schiffers; father of 
Kenneth Schiffers (Lynn) and Ronald Schiffers; son of the late, Gottfried and 
Cecelia Schiffers; and brother of Liliane S. Atwood of Penny Farms, Fla. He is 
also survived by two grandchildren, Stacey and Diamond Schiffers; and one 
great-grandchild, Violette Schiffers.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Schiffers was retired from the U.S. Coast Guard, 
after 26 years of service (1936-1962), including his service during World War 
II, as well as lighthouse keeper from 1960-1962 of the Boston Light (America's 
first lighthouse), in Boston, and also retired from the Louisiana Department of 
Highways. His hobbies included playing the guitar, banjo, mandolin and writing 
songs.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Michael the 
Archangel Catholic Cemetery, 6484 Louisiana Highway 44, in Convent.

Matthew Scott Brown, Esq., 26 years old, of New Orleans died Friday, May 15, 
2009.

A promising new attorney, Matt graduated from Fountainbleau High School in 
Mandeville, attended undergraduate school at LSU in Baton Rouge graduating 
Magna Cum Laude. Matt entered the international studies program his junior year 
at LSU and received a full scholarship to attend the University of Bonn in 
Bonn, Germany with a full course load taught in the native German language. 

Matt attended George Washington University in Washington DC, was contributing 
editor and editor in chief while pursuing his law degree and interning in the 
DC area. Matt received his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University 
and passed the Maryland Bar. 

Matt made the decision to return to Louisiana where he was born and raised to 
practice law in this state, recently passing the Louisiana Bar.

Matt will be profoundly and forever missed by loved ones.

Immediate surviving family members include his mother Ann Z Brown of 
Charleston, SC, his brother, Nicholas R. Brown of Dallas, TX and his father 
Lawrence G. Brown of Brisbane, Australia, extended family members, and many 
wonderful, caring friends.

CARMODY

Carol Herington Carmody, 66, a long-time resident of Slidell, passed away on 
Mother's Day, May 10, 2009, at Slidell Memorial Hospital. 

She was the beloved wife of 45 years of Don N. Carmody; the adored mother of 
Kitty Carmody Hagan and Eileen Carmody-Wicks, the mother-in-law of Michael A. 
Hagan and Stephen Wicks; and the cherished "Mima" of Bree Hagan, Ashton Wicks 
and Hannah Wicks, all of Slidell. She is also survived by her only brother, 
David Herington, of Bettendorf, Iowa, and by her dearest friends, Edward and 
Alfa Maschek, of Slidell. 

Her parents were the late L.H. Herington and Janet Huber Herington, of 
Davenport, Iowa.

Born on Dec. 17, 1942, in Clinton, Iowa, Carol was raised in Davenport and 
graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1961. She studied speech 
pathology at the State College of Iowa, Cedar Falls and the University of Iowa, 
Iowa City, and later at the University of Texas at El Paso, but she believed 
and frequently said that her highest calling was that of wife and mother. Known 
as "Mom" to many of her daughters' friends, she dedicated her life to her 
family and friends and always found room for "just one more" at her table, in 
her home and in her heart. Her family believes that it was deeply fitting that 
she be called home to the Lord on Mother's Day.

A deeply spiritual woman, Carol was an active member of St. Margaret Mary 
Church for 32 years. She was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and 
together with her husband received the honor of the Order of St. Louis IX 
Medallion from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in recognition of dedication to 
the work of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Friends and family are invited to participate in a celebration of Carol's life. 
Visitation will be at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W., Slidell, from 
6-9 p.m. today and at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell, and 
from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. 
The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery to

Stella J. Collins entered into eternal life with her Savior on May 10, 2009.

She was the beloved mother of Anderson P. Collins Sr. and his wife Regina; and 
grandmother of Angela, Aimee and Anderson Collins Jr. as well as Courtney 
Booker. She is survived by sisters, Gladys Bell, Lillie Quinn and Antoinette 
Perkins; and brothers Lawerance Coleman and Edward Jones.

She will be welcomed by those who passed before her, baby daughter Angela; her 
mother Helen Bunns; father Steve McCoy, stepmother, Louise McCoy; sister, 
Cheryl B. Webber; and brothers, Henry Jones and Robert Bunns.

Born on June 22, 1949, Stella Collins lived in Mandeville and Covington for 
most of her life. She was strong-willed, hard-working and generous with 
everyone. An avid church-goer and fashion diva, she enjoyed entertaining, home 
decorating and reflecting on the lives of Biblical leaders. She will be greatly 
missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews and a huge number of long-time 
friends from many walks of life.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Free Mission 
Baptist Church on Lamarque Street in Mandeville, with interment following in 
Mandeville Cemetery. 

A repast and celebration of Stella Collins life will be held at her home for 
close family and friends.

Timothy James Dragon Sr., 52, of Slidell, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, 
and is now at peace after a long but courageous battle with cancer. 

He was a native of New Orleans, a resident of Slidell for the past nine years, 
and a superintendent at K.B. Kaufmann & Co. Inc. 

He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, son and brother.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Donna; son, Tim Jr. and daughter-n-law 
Jennifer Dragon; daughter, Tiffany Dragon; his mother, Doris Millaudon. Timothy 
was the brother of Terrie Galle (Carl), Cheryl Cassreino (Victor), Ernest 
"Buster" (Anna) and Kenny (Donna) Dragon. He is also survived by many nieces, 
nephews, friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Millaudon.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes 
Church, 325 Westchester Blvd. Slidell. Friends may visit at the church 
beginning at 10 a.m.

Gloria Even Dumas, affectionately known as "Keal," died peacefully in her home 
on Saturday, May 9, 2009.

She was the daughter of the late Avren and Josephine Pichon-Dumas; the mother 
of Chanel Dumas-Hawkins; and the loving grandmother of Faren Marie Hawkins, 
Gabrielle Eve Hawkins and Seth Avren Hawkins. 
She also leaves behind to cherish her memory five sisters, Pearl Gordon, Elsie 
Revere, Barbara Faciane, Vidlet Doyle and Juliette Beck; five brothers, Vernon 
Dumas, Edmund Dumas, Evren Dumas, Sidney Dumas and Wayne Dumas; and a host of 
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gregory Dumas and Eric Dumas.

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday at St. Genevieve Catholic Church following 
visitation from 9-11 a.m. 
Interment will follow Mass at Dubisson Cemetery. 

The family is extremely grateful to the Slidell Memorial Hospital east and west

Cleo Louise Smith Morgan passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009. She was born 
January 9, 1921 to the late James and Ernestine Bouvier Smith and has been a 
life resident of St. Tammany Parish.

The beloved wife of the late Woodrow Morgan, she is survived by three 
daughters: Patty M. Badon, her husband Richard; Ellen M. Schiro, her husband 
Don; Jeanie M. McKee and her husband Hank; one son, William "Randy" Morgan, II, 
his wife Cynthia; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded 
in death by her brother, James Smith.

of the Pines Cemetery in Covington.

Russell Paul Naquin, Jr. passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009 at the age of 45.

Beloved Father of Ashleigh Naquin Stevens and Kailyn Elizabeth Naquin. Former 
husband of Jeri H. Naquin. Son of Janice Tillotson Cooper and stepson of Fred 
Cooper. 

Preceded in death by his father Russell Paul Naquin, Sr., stepfather James S. 
Mullen and grandparents. Brother of Michael Paul Naquin (wife, Sandra), Dawn 
Marie Naquin, and Elaine Harless (husband, Darrell).

Former employee of Wood Resources Corp and G. W. Contractors. Russell was 
treasured and will be sadly missed by his family and each person who invested 
in his life and he in theirs.

Ralph Kenneth "Ken" Reed Jr., 47, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 
2009. 

Ken was born in Atlanta and resided in Slidell for the past 33 years. Ken 
worked for Delta Airlines for 18 years and retired in June of 2008. He was 
employed by Gulf States Scientific as a warehouse manager.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lindsey Lee Reed of Hammond; his 
father Ralph K. "Pete" Reed and the late Elaine Reed of Slidell; his sister and 
brother-in-law Robyn Reed Jackson and Martin Jackson of Slidell; his brother 
Cameron Lane Reed of Atlanta; and his nieces, Jamie, Terrie and Kellie Jackson

Beloved husband of 25 years to Barbara Jacques Burkart; loving father to 
Catherine Johnson and her husband Lyle, David Burkart and his wife Christina 
and Mariea Sweitzer and her husband Paul; grandfather of E.J., David J., James, 
David S., Theresa, Jonathan and John-David; great-grandfather to Christine, 
Charley, Cheyenne, Natalie and Jesse; and brother to John Burkart, Louis 
Burkart and Frank Burkart. 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nathalie O'Donnell Burkart; his 
daughter, Cynthia B. Snyder; his son, James Malloy Burkart; his mother, Grace 
Malloy Burkart; and his father, Louis Burkart.

Age 76 years, he was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Covington, 
LA for the past 15 years. A United States Army Veteran, he attained the rank of 
Major. He was a Steamship Agency Executive, having worked for Dalton Steamship 
and E.S. Binnings Steamship Agencies.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Celebration of the 
Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 1:30 PM at St. Peter 
Catholic Church, 125 East 19th Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.

Charles Ray Wilkins passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

Beloved father of Michael Wilkins, Susan Wilkins, Robert Wilkins and his wife 
Gloria, and Jennifer Baethke and her husband Andy; grandfather to Victoria 
Wilkins, Margaret Baethke and Emily Baethke; brother of Verlie House and her 
husband Richard and Jim Wilkins and his wife Gail; brother-in-law to Fran 
Keeler. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Bass Wilkins; his parents, 
Houston and Vesta Wilkins; his sisters, Dot Panter, Edna Dutsch and Betty 
Keeler; and his brother-in-laws, Red Panter and Johnny Dutsch.

A loving husband, father and friend, Charles dedicated his life to serving 
children and families in his community and provided unending support to his 
family and friends. A deacon a Red Bluff Church, he was a teacher at Dalton 
Elementary School in Baton Rouge, LA and Principal at Bellingrath Hills 
Elementary School in Greenwell Springs, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Red Bluff Church, 15204 Hwy 1078,

Ouida Fay Sticker Ciresi, 67, of Bedico, died Friday, May 15, 2009, in St. 
Tammany Parish Hospital. 

She was born on Saturday, Aug. 9, 1941, in Bedico.

She was the daughter of the late Henry A. Sticker and the late Eva Corkern. 

Surviving her are her husband, Ronald Ciresi; two daughters and sons-in-law, 
Veronica Lynn Ciresi and Roy Smith and Eva Marie Ciresi and Fred Zansler; one 
son and daughter-in-law, Garrett Wade and Stephnie Ciresi; her twin brother, 
Glenn Ray Sticker; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma Jane "Puddin" Sticker and 
Merlie Jenkins and brother Irwin A. Sticker; seven grandchildren, Zachary Ryan, 
Jordan Bess and Dalton Henry Smith, Ryan Wade, Madison Lynn and Kamryn Victoria 
Ciresi and Shelby Fay Zansler; and one great-grandchild, Ayden Nicholas Dalton 
Smith.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Henry Sticker.

Services were held Sunday at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Wall 
officiating. 

Interment followed in the Sticker Cemetery.

Norma Mannint Clifford, 88, born Oct. 25, 1920, in New Orleans, and a resident 
of Slidell passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009.

She was the wife of the late John Clifford and beloved mother of John A. 
Clifford and his wife, Charlotte and Patricia Clifford Broussard and her 
husband Marion. She was the loving grandmother to David John Bourdonnay, John 
M. Clifford, Kelley C. Vignes and her husband Michael and Cinnamon L. Salamone 
and her husband Joseph. She was the proud great-grandmother of Chloe, Madison, 
Cameron and Cassen Salamone, Ethan Bourdonnay and Taylor Vignes. She was cousin 
to George Baud, Eugene Baud and Elizabeth Norton.

She was a retired Bell South/AT&T employee of 37 years and an active Telephone 
Company Pioneer. Norma spent many hours volunteering at Northshore Regional 
Medical Center, the Volunteers of America and the Children's Wish Endowment.

Norma loved music, dancing, travel and spending time with her many friends and 
family. She considered herself a very lucky woman.

The family would like to thank the staff of Live Oak Village for their special 
friendship, affection and care as well as Nursing PRN and Odyssey Health Care.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Norma's life on Monday. 
Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at 
Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 360 Robert Blvd., Slidell.

wife Pamela and Kathleen Oxford; daughter of the late Edmee and Clara Landry 
Giroir; and sister of Millie Belin, Eddie Giroir, Vivian Trahan, John Giroir 
and the late Clifton, Charles and Gerard Giroir. She is also survived by nine 
grandchildren; one great-grandchild and preceded in death by one grandchild.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 34 
years. Navarre was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Todd Allen Sharp, 46, of Harvey, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, at his 
residence after a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosalind V. Hall-Sharp of Harvey; his 
father, Claude Sharpe and stepmother Linda Liegel of Las Vegas; his stepfather, 
Larry Collins of Tahlaquah, Okla.; two brothers, Wayne Sharp of Lawrence, Kan., 
Kenneth Collins of Tahlaquah, Okla.; and one sister, Yvonne Sharp of Tulsa 
Okla.; Brother-in-law, Rickey Hall; and mother-in-law, Alfreda Hall of New 
Orleans; one niece, Savannah Sharp; one nephew, Hunter Sharp; two uncles, Clyde 
and Jake Sharp; two aunts, Donna and Goldie Sharp; and cousins, Billy Sharp, 
Dennis Sharp, Clayton Williamson, Herb, Barry, Melvin and Dave Teal, Michele 
and Doug Herting.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Collins.

A native of Rapid City, S.D., Todd grew up in North Pole, Alaska, and resided 
in New Orleans for four years and Harvey for seven years. He was a member of 
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 1846 and a 
journeyman carpenter since 1997.

He and his wife were the owners of Fetch! Pet Care of New Orleans. He enjoyed 
riding his Harley motorcycle and participating in motorcycle events and caring 
for his pure-bred pomeranians and golden retreivers. He was also an avid coin 
collector and history buff and lover of Japanese art.

A private memorial service will be held in South Dakota at a later date.

Gil was a native of St. Bernard Parish and a resident of Slidell. He will be 
forever remembered as a loving and loyal companion, father, grandfather, 
brother and uncle who enjoyed a passion for hunting and fishing but treasured 
the time spent with family above all else.

COPSEY

Steven Charles Copsey, 58, of Slidell, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009. 

He was born Oct. 10, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colo., to the late Robert David 
and Marian Weinberger Copsey. 

He graduated from Palmer High School in Colorado Springs and The Colorado 
School of Mines in Golden, Colo. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, The 
Engineering Honor Society. Steve was employed by Lockheed-Martin, Denver, and 
in 1974 transferred to the NASA Michoud Facility in New Orleans. He was an 
engineer in the Material Sciences Group until he retired in 2000.

Steve will be greatly missed by his loving wife and best friend, Rose 
"Rosalie;" his adoring daughter, Dawn Marie Copsey; brother, David Copsey 
(Pam); stepsons, Greg Grantham (Karin), James Grantham (Kay) and Marc Grantham 
(Patricia). He is also survived by stepgrandchildren, Dodd Grantham (Mary Kay), 
Kristi (Casey) Byargeon, Bret Grantham, Neil Grantham, Scott Grantham, Kirk 
Grantham (Morgan), Clay Grantham, Ashlie, Haley, Landon Grantham and Salvator 
Byargeon; nephews, Shane and Scott Copsey; and niece, Sarah Conley.

Steve thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. As his friends often noted "he knew 
how to retire." He and Rose traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada, RV camping 
and going on ocean cruises. They had a wonderful and joyful life together.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation at 2 p.m. and a Celebration of 
Steve's Life at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W., 
Slidell. 
Interment will be at a later date in the Colorado Rocky Mountains where he 
spent his boyhood years trout fishing, mountain climbing and ice skating and 
his later years off-roading in his Jeep.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the SMH doctors, especially Drs. 
Taylor, Joubert and Dale; and the wonderful, caring MICU nurses and therapists.

Chrystal Lynette Simmons Thompson was born Aug. 19, 1961, to Melba Simmons and 
the late Gerald Simmons. 

She departed this life Monday, May 18, 2009, at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton 
Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandfathers, J.B. Smith Sr., Reggie 
Simmons and Erie Oree; grandmother, Willie Mae Oree; and one brother, Jerry 
Dale Richards; all of Bogalusa.

She was born in Bogalusa and raised in New Orleans. In 1972, her mother moved 
the family to Slidell where she graduated from Slidell Senior High School.

She married Jerry Thompson, and to this union was born Rochelle Thompson, Jerry 
Thompson Jr., Precious Thompson and Precocious Simmons.

Thompson leaves to cherish her memories her husband, children, mother, four 
sisters, five brothers, six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of aunts, 
uncles, cousins, friends and special friends.

Frank Calhoun McMullen Jr., 75, of Slidell, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009. 

He was an avid fisherman, a member of Ridge Memorial Baptist Church of Slidell 
and was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Finnegan-McMullen; three daughters, Darlin 
Tolphin, Kathryn Castle and Angela Rowland; stepson, James Finnegan III 
(Kerrie); one sister, Patricia McMullen Self (Dan); three brothers, Jerry 
McMullen (Mary), William McMullen (Rose) and Randy McMullen; and sisters-in-
law, Barbara and Hazel McMullen. 
He is also survived by seven grandchildren (six boys and one girl), three 
stepgrandchildren (two boys and one girl) and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bernice McMullen; and 
brothers, Charles, Tony, Howard and Albert McMullen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Memorial Baptist 
Church, 55115 Apple Pie Ridge Road, Slidell. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. 
until service time. 
Interment will follow in V.A. Cemetery in Biloxi.

Vera Parker Thomas, 94, a native and resident of Bush, passed away Thursday, 
May 21, 2009, at Resthaven Nursing Home in Bogalusa. 

She was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church in Bush for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Jackquelyn Thomas Lee (husband, John Dickie) 
of Bush and Laverne Thomas Williams (husband, Delos Richard) of Bogalusa. She 
is also survived by six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces 
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Thomas; one son, Bobby Thomas;

parents, Warren Parker and Etta Thomas Parker.

He was a native of Houma and resident of Katy, Texas. 

He was a drilling engineer for W&T Offshore Inc. and a member of Houma Oilman's 
Fishing/Clay Shoot, Gulf Coast Conservation Association and American 
Association of Drilling Engineers.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Buckel Voss; children, Spencer Voss, Taylor 
Voss and Zachary Voss; mother, Marilyn Voss; sisters, Jackie Voss and Pattie 
Voss; nieces and nephews, Michael Meche, Matthew Meche, Gary Henley, Andrea 
Henley, Paul Haines and Jan Haines; and great-niece, Julia Haines.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Voss.

A Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Frances de Sales Cathedral followed 
by interment in Terrebonne Memorial.

Hezzie Donice "H.D." Blackwell age 83, a life long resident of Folsom, passed 
away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.

H.D. was married to Peggy Fitzmorris Blackwell for 57 years. They were lifelong 
companions and best friends. Together they raised 5 children, Sandra LeBlanc 
(husband, Bobby), Deborah Varnado (husband, David), Tim Blackwell (wife, 
Rosanne), Elizabeth Willie (husband, Reggie) and Patricia Foster (husband, 
John). Grandfather to Jason and Bryan LeBlanc, Bo and Beth Blackwell, Nicholas 
Varnado, Jarrad and Jordan Willie and Jacob Foster. Great-grandfather to 
Abigail LeBlanc, Connelly and Blaise Blackwell, Deaton LeBlanc and Madelyn 
Willie. Also survived by one brother, June "Coot" Blackwell; sisters, Evelyn 
Pittman and Jewett Gay. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Fleet Blackwell; his mother, Tera 
Wascom; brothers, Jake, Claude and Fleet, Jr.; sisters, Vernie and Edna 
Blackwell.

H.D. and Peggy founded Blackwell's Nursery, which they successfully ran until 
they retired. H.D. was known throughout St. Tammany Parish for his knowledge of 
the rich history of the Folsom Community. Full of a lifetime of memories, he 
willingly shared his stories with those who would listen. H.D. never met a 
stranger, and that's what made him a man that everyone loved. Because of the 
legacy that he has left behind, his stories will live on in the hearts of his 
family and friends, as well as the hearts of others that have passed through 
his life. He will be greatly missed by his many family members and his extended 
family and friends.

BLAKEMAN

Michael Ward Blakeman Sr., 64, after a courageous two-year battle with 
malignant melanoma, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 24, 2009.

He was the son of the late Ward Edward Blakeman Sr. and Elizabeth Perez 
Blakeman. He was the husband of 41 years of Carmen Cusimano Blakeman; father of 
Michael Ward Blakeman Jr. (Kimberly) and he late Melanie Rose Blakeman; 
grandfather of Tyler Cole Blakeman, Jacob Seth Blakeman, Hayden Elise Blakeman, 
Chaice MacKinnley Bodden; grandfather/father of Asher Beau Blakeman; and 
brother of Ward Edward Blakeman Jr., Debbie King and Donna Reeves. He is also 
survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A native of New Orleans, he lived in Slidell for the past 11 years. He was a 
graduate of John McDonough High School and Delgado Community College He was a 
veteran of the United States Army and served in Vietnam. He was a retired 
general manager of Harry's Ace Hardware Stores.

Religious services were held Thursday, May 28, 2009, with Pastor Jim Baird 
officiating.

Pearl River; three grandchildren, Lisa, Charlie and Alisha; nine great-
grandchildren, Jessica, Tori, Justin, Chelcie, Emily, Savannah, Brenen, Hyden 
and Olivia; and one great-great-grandchild, Mackenzie.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence McQueen; husband, Charles 
McCarthy and daughter, Rhonda Beiser.

One of his greatest accomplishments was being a trapeze artist with Ringling 
Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus for many years.

YENCHO

Marie Yencho, 81, of Slidell, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009, at her 
residence in Slidell.

She was the beloved wife of Michael Yencho; the mother of Carl Yencho; daughter 
of the late Frank and Mary Strieffler and sister of the late Frank Strieffler 
and Elizabeth Stuck.

She is also survived by three grandchildren, Christopher Yencho, Brittany 
Yencho, and Tyler Yencho.

She was a native of Philadelphia, Penn. Mrs. Yencho was a resident of Slidell 
from 1962 to 1967 and 1984 until the present. She was the church organist for 
the churches of St. Genevieve, St. Margaret Mary, and St. John of the Cross. 
Mrs. Yencho had been employed by HUD, and was an avid bowler.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial Mass at 6 
p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church in 
Lacombe.

Her ashes will be interred in Forest Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

Albert Jules Frey, Sr. passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2009.

Beloved husband of 64 years to Claire Osborne Frey; loving father of Albert 
"Jay" Frey, Jr. and his wife Gretchen, Joanne Claire Frey, Ruth Frey Bertucci 
and her husband Dr. Bryan, Mary Anne Frey Schindler and her husband Ronnie, 
Claire Frey Musgrove, and Amy Lynn Frey Poole; father-in-law to Ed Burke; and 
brother of Beverly Frey Reuther, Dolores Frey Meyer, David Frey, Florence Frey 
Theriot, Barbara Frey Mann and Kathleen Frey Lafontaine. 

was preceded in death by his mother, Alvina Mumme Frey; his father, Albert A. 
Frey; a daughter, Monica Jane Frey Burke; a son, John Edward Frey; a son-in-
law, Scott Musgrove; and a sister, Elaine Frey Davis. 

He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Age 85 years, he was a native of New Orleans, La and a resident of Mandeville, 
LA for the past 12 years. He served on the Executive Board of L.A. Frey & Sons 
and was the Director of Marketing for the company. A United States Navy 
Veteran, CPO Frey served during World War II and was aboard the USS Yorktown 
(CV-5) when it sank. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, was a Knight of 
the Holy Sepulchre and was the founder and first president of the Holy Name 
Society at St. Clare Catholic Church in Waveland, MS.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to celebrate the Mass of 
Christian Burial on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Lake 
Catholic Church, 312 Lafitte Street, Mandeville, LA 70448.

A wake on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, with a rosary by the 
Knights of Columbus at 7:00 PM, at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 West 21st 
Avenue, Covington, LA 70433.

Visitation AT THE CHURCH will be on Friday from 10:00 AM until service time. 
Interment will follow Mass at St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery.

Anna May Polit Delle passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2009.

She was born October 16, 1924 in New Orleans to the late Andrew J. and Thelma 
Ribes Polit and has been a resident of Covington since 1977. 

The beloved wife of the late Robert J. Delle, Jr., she is survived by three 
daughters: Barbara D. Welborn, Kathleen Delle and Jeanne D. Charrier; two sons, 
Robert J., III and Michael A. Delle; six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Rachael, 
Melissa, Jeremy, Dana, Linda; six great-grandchildren: Angelica, Demi, Jeffrey, 
Damon, Elizabeth and Morgan and one sister Gloria Kinchen.

During World War II, Anna May volunteered as a nurse's aid with the Red Cross 
and built PT Boats for The Higgins Company in New Orleans. She was also an 
active member of the American Legion, VFW and Lion's Club Auxiliaries.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 12:00 Noon on Thursday, June 4, 2009 from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding 
Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington, LA 70433. Visiting hours will begin 
Thursday at 9:00 AM.

Interment will follow services at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington.
