EASON

Albert B. Eason passed away after a battle with lung cancer at the age of 69. 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne DeBuys Eason; sons Albert Eason, 
Jr., and William Eason; daughters Elizabeth Zeringue, Kathleen Dillon, and 
Susan Blake; sons-in-law Mickey Zeringue and Jerry Dillon; future daughter-in-
law Rachel Prestenbach and eight grandchildren.

For many years he and his family lived in Metairie where Mr. Eason was a real 
estate appraiser and former president of the National Association of 
Independent Fee Appraisers. He also served on the board of the Department of 
Health and Human Resources Committee. He later moved to St. Tammany Parish and 
worked for the Assessor's Office as supervisor of the Slidell office. He 
enjoyed hunting and fishing.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service at 
Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, 
on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 
a.m.

PETERSON

Hattie Smooth Peterson, 78, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009 
at Northshore Regional Medical Center in Slidell. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Alphonse Peterson, Sr.; loving mother of 
Minda P. Daniels and the late Laverne J. Peterson and Alphonse Peterson, Jr.
Hattie was the daughter of the late Evans Smooth and Mary Johnson Smooth; 
sister of Monroe Smooth, Sr. (Marie), and the late Abraham Smooth, Clarence 
Smooth and Shirley Harrison.
She is also also survived by six grandchildren, Elston Peterson, Tammy 
Peterson, Fabian Daniels, Brian Peterson, Roderick Peterson and Tredon Peterson 
and four great-grandchildren.

Hattie was a lifelong resident of Slidell. She was a member of New Tabernacle 
Missionary Baptist Church in Slidell.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at New Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 3200 Washington Ave., Slidell, on 
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 1 p.m. 
Visitation will be held at the church from 12 noon until 1 p.m. 
Interment will follow in Slidell Memorial Cemetery, Slidell. 

The family of Mrs. Hattie Peterson would like to thank the staff and members of

Jackie "Jack" Jewell Pittman, 68, of Slidell, entered into rest May 22, 2009 in 
Bossier City.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor Ann Cullins Pittman of Minden; daughters 
Jeannine Pittman Hammett and husband Edward of Concord, N. C., Debra Pittman 
McLoud and husband James of Huntsville, Ark.; brother Lawrence Pittman of New 
Haven, Miss., and grandchildren Camille, Cade, Gunnar, and Kenneth.

Funeral services for Jack were held Tuesday May 26, 2009 at Rose-Neath Funeral 
Home Chapel. Officiating was Rev. John Cannon. 
Interment followed at Olive Branch cemetery in Junction City, Ark.

Doris Grego Rainer, 84, a former resident of Slidell, passed away on Tuesday, 
May 26, 2009, in Ellenton, Fla. 

She was the beloved wife of the late Albert W. Raimer; mother of Linden Raimer, 
Karen Raimer Alkire, and the late Gary Raimer.
Doris was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth Grego; sister of Earl Grego, 
and the late Joseph Grego.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Bridgette, Sean, Ryan, Reese, 
Lauren, Keith, Austin, Gabriel, Anna, and the late Beau Raimer and two great-
grandchildren, Chase and Trent.

Doris was a native of New Orleans, a longtime resident of Slidell, and a 
resident of Ellenton, Fla., for the past three years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.
Funeral Services will be held at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST 
(in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell, on Monday, June 1, 2009 at 12:00 noon.
Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

CANTRELL

Carl Guthrie Cantrell passed away Friday evening, May 29, 2009, at his home in 
Picayune, Miss. Cantrell was born April 13, 1933, in Norfolk, Va.

He was a veteran who served aboard a destroyer in the U.S. Navy honoring his 
country in the Korean Conflict.

Cantrell married Ursula Soniat on Nov. 25, 1956, and they were blessed with 56 
years of children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Cantrell; brother Cree 
Cantrell and his wife.

He is survived by five children, Carle Cantrell of Charleston, S. C., Joseph 
Cantrell of Picayune, Miss., Carolyn Martin (Ron) of Lacombe, Renee Lumpkin 
(Kelly) of Walker and Michelle Jarrell (Jake) of Picayune, Miss.; five 
granddaughters, Kelli, Heather, Brittany, Ashley and Danielle; two great-
grandchildren, Alexis and Colton; and numerous loving family members and 
friends.

Funeral services were held June 2 at the Picayune Funeral Home chapel with 
Brother Cedric Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in 
Slidell.

Arrangements were under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.

CARSTENS

Mimi Carstens, 85, of Slidell, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at 
Slidell Memorial Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of the late Bill Carstens; mother of Cheryl Carstens, 
Kelly Carstens, Raymond Freeman and the late Billy Cowan.
She was the daughter of the late Vincent Rollin and Barthenia Ivaline Rollin 
and sister of the late George Rollin and Lorraine Ivaline Rollin.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Brandon Spencer, Amanda Spencer 
and Benjamin Carstens-Maddocks and her loving dog Yoshi.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 15 
years. Mimi led a full and exciting life that was surrounded by her loving 
children and grandchildren.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service to 
celebrate Mimi's life at her home located at 3020 N. Palm Dr., Slidell on 
Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6 to 8pm.

EASON

Orenia Margaret Bertrand Lamia, 94, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Bush, she was the beloved wife of the 
late Anthony Lamia; mother of Hazel Ann Cambre Casey; mother-in-law of James 
Casey Jr. and the late Carl Cambre; and sister of Ruth Farlow and Gladys 
Hammant. She was the grandmother of Wyatt Cambre, Jarret Cambre and Shane 
Cambre; and the stepgrandmother of Jamie Bourg, Stephanie Aloie, James Casey 
III, Allison Cooper and the late Michelle Casey. She is also survived by 11 
great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home in 
Covington.

Interment was in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie.

Willard O. Lape passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the age of 95.

Husband of the late Elizabeth Summers Lape. Father of Will Lape, Jr., 
Mandeville, LA and Ellen Lape Delker, Winter Park, FL. Grandfather of Charles 
Lape, Willard "Trey" Lape, III, Alison Delker McDonald and Sally Delker 
Vecchiarelli.

Mr. Lape was a native of Little Rock, AR, a former resident of Owensboro, KY 
and a resident of Covington, LA for the past 13 years. He was a graduate of the 
University of Illinois and a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington, 
LA and Owensboro, KY where he was a deacon and teacher of a men's Sunday School 
Class for 40 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club. He retired from Texas 
Gas Transmission Corp. in Owensboro, KY.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service

at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Audrey "Kathy" Levy Matranga; father of Jennifer

He was the brother of Carolyn Howell, Andrea Lincoln and the late Michael and 
Robert Matranga.
He is also survived by one special granddaughter, Olivia Ann Matranga.

He was a native of New Orleans and longtime resident of Slidell.

William Anderson Bloom, Jr. a retired psychiatrist, passed away on Friday, June 
5, 2009 at the age of 70.

Father of William Anderson Bloom III and Carin Lynne Bloom McCorgary. Son of 
the late Dr. and Mrs. William Bloom. Brother of the late Jean Bloom Hilligas 
and Byrd Bloom Hert. Grandfather of Lindsey Alisa McCorgary and Julian Patrick 
Bloom.

Dr. Bloom received his BS Degree from Central Methodist University in Fayette, 
MO, and his M.D. Degree and Residency from Tulane University in New Orleans, 
LA. He was one-time Medical Director of Southeast Louisiana Hospital in 
Mandeville, LA, had a private practice on the Northshore since the 1980's and 
was a Life Member of the American Psychiatric Association.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service 
on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 
335 Ashbury Drive, Mandeville, LA.

2009.

Petree; son of Roberta Petree and the late Roy Petree; and brother of Gene 
Petree, Susan Cantu and Brian Petree. He is also survived by five

Petree, Jaxon Bryce Petree and Michael James Petree.

A native of San Antonio and a resident of Slidell for the past 11 years, Alan 
was a hard working manager for CocaCola Enterprises, who loved his 
family,hunting, fishing and the great outdoors.

lifelong resident of Folsom.

Thompson and Sonya Willie; father-in-law of Jeffrey Willie; son of the late 
Ethelyn S. and James H. Willie; brother of Sherry Revere and the late J.M. 
Willie, Burton Willie and Rodney Willie; grandfather of Scott Cooper and wife 
Mary, Nick Cooper, Darby Thompson and Derron Thompson; and great-grandfather of 
Nathan Cooper.

FOLSE

Patricia Ann Kennedy "Patsy" Folse, 72, surrounded by her family and loved 
ones, went to be with our Lord and her soul mate, Bill, on Thursday, June 
4,2009.

A lifelong resident of Slidell, she was a graduate of Slidell High School where 
she was a Tiger cheerleader. Patsy was well known for her artistic abilities 
and creative ideas as owner of Patsy's Floral Fashions for over 20 years. 

She was a member of the Slidell First United Metholist Church and the Slidell 
Women's Civic Club, serving as Queen Samaritan. Other community involvements 
included being a lifetime member of the Slidell Jaynes, Slidell Christians' 
Singles group and Ozone Camilla Club, and while in college at Texas Tech, she 
was a member of the Tri Delta sorority - just to name a few. Throughout her 
lifetime, she contributed numerous hours to the schools in which her children 
attended, serving on PTA boards and as room mother for many years.

Patsy was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William L. "Bill" Folse 
Jr.; and her parents, Edward and Gladys B. Kennedy.

She was the mother of William L. "Trey" Folse III, David E. Folse, Eric D. 
Folse, Lynette Folse Bruno and all of their spouses, Robin Folse, Betty Folse, 
Melinda Folse and Joel Bruno, Jr. She is also survived by her only sister, 
Betty Kennedy Pearson. She was the grandmother of William L. 'Will' Folse IV, 
Abby E. Folse, David E. Folse II, Nicholas A. Folse, Michelle E. Folse, Hayden 
P. Folse, Hunter J. Folse, Harrison D. Folse, Holley E. Smith, Joel J. Bruno 
III, Jeanna Lloyd and Zachary Lloyd.

Robert E. Grosskopf Sr. 78, passed away on Saturday, June 6th,2009, at East 
Jefferson Hospital in Metairie, LA.

Mr. Grosskopf was the beloved husband of the late Myrtle Grosskopf for 54 
years. Father of Robert Grosskopf Jr. and his wife Catherine Grosskopf of 
Boston, MA. and Pamela Grosskopf Mashon and her husband Kurt Mashon of Hammond, 
LA. Grandfather of Meghan and Margot Grosskopf and Zachary and Alexandra 
Mashon. Son of the late Howard and Edith Grosskopf of Pittsburgh, PA. Brother 
of the late Howard and Richard Grosskopf and Zita Grosskopf.

Mr. Grosskopf a native of Pittsburgh, PA, he was a WWII US Army Veteran and a 
member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Metairie, LA.

Godfrey "Bubby" A. Holley Sr., 54, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009.

 He was a native of New Orleans and resident of Slidell.

and Godfrey "Bubby" Holley Jr.; father-in-law of Tyson Hagedorn; son of 
Josephine Galiano Holley and the late Charles G. Holley; brother of Pamela Gray 
and Lynn Stierwald; brother-in-law of Dan Gray and George Stierwald; 
grandfather of Britni and Kayla Hagedorn and Logan Holley; and uncle of Devin, 
Alexis and Jenna Gray, Michael Campbell and Frank McDaniel Jr.

JOURDAN, JOHN M. 
(February 1, 1947 - June 6, 2009)

John M. Jourdan passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the age of 62.

Beloved husband of 30 years to Vicki Mendheim Jourdan. Father of John "Bliss" 
Jourdan and his wife, Rebecca. Son of the late Naomi Willie Core and Matthew 
Core. Brother of Daniel Jourdan (Felicia), Ashley Jourdan (Robin), Shelia 
Jourdan Loup (Jack) and the late Christopher Jourdan. Son-in-law of Howard and 
Sally Stutzman. Brother-in-law of Jack and Stephanie Mendheim, Robert Mendheim 
and Chantel Jourdan. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jourdan was a native of Folsom, a resident of Atlanta for 23 years, 
returned to Folsom in 2006 and was the owner and founder of Jourdan 
Renovations.

The family would like to thank the caring ICU and CCU staff of St. Tammany 
Parish Hospital.

KELLY

Cynthia "Cindy" Jerman Kelly, 59, of Slidell, went home to be with the Lord 
after a hard fought battle with leukemia on Thursday, June 4, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of Stephen; mother of Kimberly Coogan (Chris), Art 
Kelly (Rebecca), Stephanie Kelly (Ryan) and Elizabeth Hart (Jonathan); sister 
of Martha Jerman, Bob Jerman (Carol), Tommy Jerman and Leize-Ann Berry 
(Ronnie); daughter of the late Earle and Tilla Jerman; and stepdaughter of 
Johnnie Jerman. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Caleb, Cole and 
Ella Kelly and Andrew Coogan.

A native of Charleston, S.C. and a resident of Slidell since 1993, Cindy was 
pianist at Grace Memorial Baptist Church and taught private piano lessons for 
15 years.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 7 p.m. Monday at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 58516 Pearl Acres Road, 
Slidell with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. 
Interment will be in Pulaski, Va.

James Edward Landry of Slidell passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2009.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Landry; his three daughters, Laurie Spaun, 
Maria Martin and Susie Coogan; sister, Doris Bergret; as well as eight 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Landry; mother, Almelize Landry; 
and brother, Joseph Landry.

He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Slidell and also a member of 
Carpenters local chapter 1846.

Services were held Saturday at Williams Funeral Home in Pearl River with the 
Revs. Denny Winborne and Glenn Bond officiating.

Interment followed at Hickory Memorial Gardens Pearl River.

Lt. Allison Marie Oubre, USN, 27, of San Diego, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 
2009, in San Diego.

She was the beloved wife of Lt. Colter Ward Menke, USN; loving daughter of Don 
P. Oubre and Judy Estante Oubre; granddaughter of Allen and Joyce Oubre, Jovita 
Estante and the late Julio Estante; and sister of David A. Oubre.

Oubre was a former longtime resident of Slidell and most recently a resident of 
San Diego. She was a graduate of Pope John Paul II High School in Slidell and 
received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, 
Tenn. 

After graduation from Vanderbilt, She was commissioned as an officer in the 
U.S. Navy, where she proudly served her country. While residing in Slidell, 
Allison was a parishioner of St. Luke Catholic Church.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 
noon Tuesday at St. Luke Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell, 
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. 

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.

Hubert E. Talley passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at age 82 at Lane Regional 
Medical Center in Zachary, LA. 

A life resident of Covington, he lived the last 2 1/2 years at the Louisiana War 
Veterans home in Jackson, LA.

The beloved husband of Ouida Taylor Talley for almost 65 years, he is survived 
by four sons: G.A. "Al", Joel E., Robert T. and Richard H. Talley; two 
brothers: Russell and Amos "Bill" Talley; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna King 
Talley and two brothers, John T. Talley and Joel Talley.

His six grandsons will act as pallbearers: Andrew, Adam, Alex, Matthew and 
Bankston Talley and Beau Richard.

Mr. Talley served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the Occupation of Japan. 
Following his military service, he became an engineer for the Louisiana Highway 
Department.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 11:30 AM from Fitzgerald United Methodist

Marjorie Ritter Veazey passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009. 

She was born November 20, 1919 in Ysclosky, LA to the late George and Anita 
Dudmon Ritter and was most recently a resident of Folsom.

The beloved wife of the late Eustis Veazey, she is survived by her daughter, 
Bobbie Veazey Creighton; three grandchildren: Jodi L. Martin, Amery Creighton-
Allen and O. David Creighton; five great-grandchildren and three great-great 
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and George 
Ritter and two sisters, Doris Ritter and Joyce Whitekin.

DUCKERT

Milton A. Duckert Jr., 76, died Friday, June 5, 2009.

He was the beloved husband of 57 years of June Castanade Duckert; father of 
Milton Duckert III, Pamela Whitecotton (husband, Fred) and Tommy Duckert; 
grandfather of Brad Duckert (wife, Kelly), Brian Cook (wife, Kelly), Rebecca, 
Sarah and Michael Duckert; great-grandfather of Cameron Cook, Audrey (A.J.) 
Duckert and Ainsley Cook; son of the late Milton A. and Georgia Coleman 
Duckert; and brother of Gayle D. Heuer (Dennis).

He is also survived by three nieces.

He was a New Orleans native, retired from the printing industry and a 32-year 
resident of Chalmette until relocating to Slidell after Hurricane Katrina. He 
was a true Louisiana outdoorsman and avid fisherman his entire life in the 
costal marshes of St. Bernard. His golden times were always on the water, in 
fishing camps or in his boat with his many close friends searching for the next 
big catch. 

He was a first hand witness to the coastal erosion of the last 45 years and was 
a passionate advocate for the closure of the MRGO waterway. 

Special thanks to Theo Harvey for his generosity at Delacroix Island and for 
his special kindness to our family since Hurricane Katrina.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial services

eight grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Chase Brondum LeFebre, 7, an awesome child of God, was called to Heaven Friday, 
June 5, 2009, due to a drowning accident.

Chase was born in Covington on July 10, 2001, and attended Woodlake Elementary 
School. He will always be remembered for his enthusiasm for life and the many 
little tricks he played on his family and friends.

Chase was the precious son of Britton Bennett LeFebre and Richard John LeFebre; 
brother of Calli Bennett; grandson of Gay and Gene Bennett, Jody Duvernay, 
Robert Duvernay and Milton LeFebre; great-grandson of Josephine Desplas; nephew 
of Brandon Bennett and Lori O'Brien; cousin of Mia O'Brien, Jude Duvernay, 
Claire, Paxton and Andrew Dinwiddie, Gabrielle and Madeline Joffrion; godchild 
of Leo Schurr; great-nephew of Terry Glaudi Drolla, Karen Glaudi Underwood, 
Rodney Underwood, also Richelle, Danielle, Jamey and Adam; and stepnephew of 
Mike Holm and Joseph Duvernay.

Chase was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Millie and Hap Glaudi, 
Billie and Eugene Bennett, Joseph Desplas, Frederick Brondum, Jacqueline Ryan 
and Oneida LeFebre.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic 
Church in Mandeville. 
Interment followed in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Covington, LA for the past 51 years, and a United States Army Veteran, having 
served during World War II.

late Martha and Robert Montgomery and the late Olga and Norris Neely.

He is also survived by many cousins.

Scott Joseph Arnett, 54, of Albany, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his residence. 

He was born Sunday, July 4, 1954, in Atlanta.

Arnett was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired paramedic for the city 
of New Orleans.

Surviving him are his wife, Joann Sengstock Arnett; two sons, Brad Alton Arnett 
and Benjamin Scott Arnett; two brothers, Michael Arnett and David Arnett; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Rose Guthrie and Alton Arnett.

Elaine A. Ziegler Doyle, 72, entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 6, 2009, 
after a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgus Ziegler and Tillie Sylvas; and 
a sister, Cecile Legeaux.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 50 years, Joseph G. 
Doyle Sr.; four children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one 
aunt, one godchild; two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a host of 
nieces, nephews and cousins. She also had many devoted friends.

Elaine retired after 25 years working at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at St. Margaret Mary Catholic 
Church, 1050 Robert Blvd., Slidell.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. followed by service. 
Interment will be in Slidell Memorial Cemetery.

Mary Ruth Wade Harper died Friday, June 12, 2009 at the age of 79.

Beloved mother of Lisa Harper-Cairns; loving grandmother of Jack R. Ramirez, 
Luke W. Ramirez, Hollie Ramirez Power, Kate Ramirez Kelley, Blake H. Cairns, 
Joel E. Cairns, Virginia "Jenna" Cairns, Madeline "Maddi" Cairns, Lara-Elise 
Cairns, Shannon E. Hicks, Brandon J. Hicks and Jason B. Hicks; great-
grandmother of Jenna, Ryan, Austin, Jack and Callie Hicks, and Paris and Alona 
Power; and sister of Toye Cappel and Dorothy Masinter. She is also survived by 
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack B. Harper; a 
daughter, Alona Harper Hicks; her mother, Myrtie Virginia Ammons Wade; her 
father, John Daniel Wade; and five sisters, Mable McKinney, Jessie McDaniel, 
Tina Paul, Alice Nye and Eddie Marie Wade.

A native of Negreet, LA and a resident of Mandeville, LA, she attended McNeese 
State University and played on the Girls Basketball team. In 1948, she won a 
National Beauty Contest sponsored by Ralph Edward's Truth or Consequences Radio 
Program and Republic Pictures. After winning the contest, she left Lake Charles 
and went to Hollywood and played "The Pioneer Girl" in the movie "The 
Plunders", starring, Rod Cameron and Forrest Tucker. In 1949, she was crowned 
Miss Houston and continued as a professional model. Later in life, she owned 
"Yoga by Mary" in Metairie, LA, where she taught Yoga for many years before 
moving to Mandeville, LA. Mary was a fun loving "trip" and she will be deeply 
missed by all whose lives she touched.

HAYES

Avis Elizabeth Mitchell Hayes, 78, of Picayune, Miss., passed away Monday, June 
8, 2009, at NorthShore Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Goodyear Baptist Church with the Rev. 
Gary Killen officiating, assisted by the Rev. Arlis Grice. 
Interment followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, under the direction of 
Picayune Funeral Home.

Avis, a native of Alabama, moved to Picayune 37 years ago. She retired from 
Goodwill Industries after working as the store manager for 20 years. She was a 
member of Goodyear Baptist Church and involved in many church activities all 
her life. She became a Sunday School teacher at 15; she taught BYPU classes and 
both children and adult Sunday School Classes. She was a Cub Scout den mother 
for many years when her children were young. Avis was a very loving person and 
was a caregiver to three special people. She will be long remembered as a 
loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Emmett Hayes of Picayune; two sons, 
Andy Hayes of Slidell and Patrick Hayes of Newark, Ark.; a daughter, Sharron 
Hayes Harlan of Chicago; two sisters, Joyce Black of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and 
Pamela Smitherman of Brent, Ala.; four grandchildren, James Harlan, Rob Harlan, 
Stephanie Hayes and Lauren Hayes; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Harlan,

REDNOUR

Rodney C. Rednour, 51, of Long Beach, Miss., died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 
his residence.

He was the beloved husband of Denise Davis Rednour for the past 22 years; son 
of the late William 'Bill' and Elise Egan Rednour; brother of Raymond and Paula 
Rednour, Robert T. Rednour and the late William "Billy" Rednour. He is also 
survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A native of New Orleans and past resident of Slidell, Rodney attended Slidell 
High School and graduated from the Slidell Vocational/ Technical School. He was 
formerly employed as a certified automotive technician at Bill Garrett Nissan 
and later pursued a career as a truck driver having worked for McElroy Truck 
Lines, Anderson News and most recently at Gulf Stream Express in Gulfport, 
Miss. Rodney never knew a stranger and loved everyone. He leaves hundreds of 
friends and neighbors in addition to his family. He will be deeply missed by 
all who knew him.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial funeral 
services at 8 p.m. today at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in 
Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until funeral

Maurice Dudley Galatas passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2009.

He was born June 22, 1916 in Madisonville, LA to the late Arthur H. and Estelle 
Juliat Galatas, was a long time resident of Arabi, LA and has been a resident 
of St. Tammany Parish for the past 3 1/2 years.

The beloved husband of Doris Nelson Galatas and the late Doris Kreider Galatas, 
he is survived by one daughter, Gail G. Siciliano (Jack); his son, Maurice 
Dudley, Jr.; two step-daughters, Sandra S. Kyle and Patricia S. McDougal 
(Patrick); his step-son, Milton Schaeffer (Kathy); nine grandchildren and 14 
great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Arthur, Jr., Jessie, Henry, George 
and John Galatas; two sisters, Yvonne Alberstadt and Lorraine Henderson and one 
grandson, Nickolas Siciliano.

A veteran of the U.S. Army and P.O.W. during World War II, he received the 
Purple Heart and Bronze Star for distinguished service to his country's 
freedom.

Captain Gary Lee Strahl, 51, passed away at home on Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Beloved husband of 27 years to Donna Strahl; loving father to Shane, Mandy, 
Frankie and Quinn Strahl. 

Gary was born in Kansas City, Mo on June 27, 1957 to Karlene and Charles 
Strahl. 

He is survived by brothers, Dennis (Arie), Paul (Barbara) and Mark (Diane) 
Strahl, and sisters, Kathy (Kevin) Borchers, Sharla Rogers, Linda (Don) Evans 
and Karen (Greg) Frederick. 

He was preceded in death by his father. Gary is also the Son-in-Law of Don and 
Rita Heider Sr. and Brother-in-Law to Don Heider Jr. and Stacy (Scott) 
Fredrickson. Gary is Uncle and Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Gary graduated in 1975, from Shawnee Mission West High School of Overland Park, 
KS, where he participated in Band, NJROTC, basketball and Boy Scouts in which 
he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Upon graduating from the United States 
Merchant Marine Academy in 1979, Gary was employed with Keystone Shipping until 
1994; at that time he continued his career with Shell Oil Co.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a wake which will be 
held on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at E.J. Fielding Funeral 
Home Inc., 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433. A Celebration of Christian

Scott Joseph Arnett, 54, of Albany, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at his 
residence. 

He was born Sunday, July 4, 1954, in Atlanta.

Arnett was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired paramedic for the city 
of New Orleans.

Surviving are his wife, Joann Sengstock Arnett; two sons, Brad Alton Arnett and 
Benjamin Scott Arnett; two brothers, Michael Arnett and David Arnett; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Rose Guthrie and Alton Arnett.

Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until service time 
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula.

Jennifer Kay Levens McCardle, 49, of Mandeville, passed away Friday, June 12, 
2009, at her residence of cancer.

She was the beloved wife of David A. McCardle, Mandeville; mother of Kyle 
Clayton Levens and Elise Danielle Levens, both of Mandeville; stepmother of 
Nichole Marie Keating, Covington; daughter of Jack and Betty Mosley Davis, 
DeKalb, Miss.; and sister of Ronald Jeffrey "Jeff" (Teresa) Davis, Bailey, 
Miss. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Virginia Keating, Hunter 
Keating and Braiden McCardle; and aunt of Parker and Paige Davis.

McCardle was a native of DeKalb. She was a graduate and alumni of University of 
Southern Mississippi. She was a practice manager of Gloria Coker M.D. and 
laboratory manager of Louisiana Coagulation Lab, Covington. 

She was a loving, devoted wife and mother.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Mandeville, 1895 U.S. Highway 190. 
The Rev. Ken Schroeder will be officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m.

David Franklin Mock passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009 at the age of 59.

Beloved husband of Laura Angel. Son of Gladys Wilcox Mock and the late Franklin 
Wilson Mock. Brother of James Mock and Nancy Mock. Also survived by nieces, 
nephews and cousins.

He was born in Stuttgart, AR and grew up in Jefferson Parish. He was a 
competition diving champion for Riverdale High School and a lifeguard in 
Jefferson Parish. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Mock 
traveled the world as a Merchant Marine engineer and was decorated for his 
service during the Desert Storm campaign. He was an avid reader and did the 
crossword puzzle daily.

President of the club in 1978 where he and his wife reigned as King and Queen 
of the Lion's Club Mardi Gras Parade. He also attended and enjoyed the Manresa 
Retreat Center in Convent, LA.

Donald Richard Stains, 85, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Northshore 
Living Center, Slidell. 

He was born in Waynesboro, Pa., to his late parents, William Reed Stains and 
Emma Grace Hoeflich.

Stains was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army-Aircorps in 1946. He retired 
after 30 years with Gulf Oil, Co., as a draftsman.

He was the brother of the late Robert Stains; beloved husband of Rella Burge 
Stains; father of Larry and Charles Stains; father-in-law of Susan Robinson 
Stains and Janet Robichaux Stains; grandfather of Reid, Troy, Rachele, Victoria 
and Stephanie Stains; and great grandfather of Nathaneal Stains.

The funeral service was held Tuesday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home 
followed by interment in Metairie Cemetery.

WENCK

Bruce Wenck, 59, passed away at his residence in Mandeville, on Wednesday, June 
10, 2009.

Wenck was a native of New Orleans and has lived in Mandeville for the past 8 
years. During his professional career he was most recently employed by Horace 
Mann Insurance Co. as a licensed property and claims adjuster. He was also a 
reserve deputy with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office until his leave of 
absence due to illness. In addition to working in emergency management for many 
years, he also held three honorable discharges from the Navy, Army and Air 
Force reserve.

He was the beloved husband of TerriLyn B. Wenck; and son of Franklyn and Doris 
Wenck. He is survived by his five children, Colby Wenck, Alyssa Wenck, Sydney 
Wenck, Brennan Wenck and Jessica Wenck; and his stepdaughters Jonnielyn Frickey 
and Kristi Linder. He also leaves behind two precious granddaughters, Kathryne 
and Addison Wenck; and two stepgrandchildren, Samantha and Ryan Frickey. He is 
also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Karen Pusateri and Phillip 
Pusateri; and he was a loving uncle to his niece and nephew, Taryn and Bryan 
Pusateri.

He was always there to lend a helping hand and will be remembered with love by 
his family and friends. 
A memorial service was held Tuesday.

GUIDRY, BRIDGET STACK

Mrs. Bridget Stack Guidry, a retired registered nurse, peacefully passed away 
in her home on Thursday, June 18th, just before 10:00 P.M. 

Bridget was born in Newtownsandes, Co. Kerry, Ireland. 

When Bridget was only 18 years old, she and her brother, Patrick, left the 
Emerald Isle for the United States. She went on to graduate from Charity School 
of Nursing and the University of St. Francis. 

Bridget worked at Charity Hospital for 26 years, and supervised the O.R. there 
for 20 of those years. She was also the Director of Nursing at both the 
Manhattan Manor on the Westbank and the New Orleans Home and Rehabilitation 
Center, Uptown. She later worked as a supervisor at Jo Ellen Smith Psychiatric 
Hospital. 

Bridget was a dedicated nurse and humanitarian for more than 40 years. Her life 
was a great example that anything is possible if you want to work for it.

Bridget had a great sense of humor and never lost her beautiful Irish accent. 

She was an amazing cook and was always up for a party. Her eggplant and shrimp 
dressing and coffee punch were bar none. Bridget loved to travel and had seen 
many places all over the world, including Paris, London, Rome and the 
Caribbean. 

In October, she was blessed to have an opportunity to go home to Ireland to 
visit her siblings and extended family. She also recently enjoyed a short 
vacation in Disney World. Bridget's family and her close knit group of friends 
sustained her. 

Bridget is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Michael John 
Guidry. Theirs marked one of the greatest unions of unique cultures, the Irish 
girl and the Cajun boy. Bridget is also survived by her three doting children, 
Catherine Stack Guidry Pilie, Michelle Stack Guidry Pender and Michael Stack 
Guidry; her sons-in-law, Mark Pilie and Ted Pender; her beloved grandchildren, 
Noel Pilie and Claudia Pilie, who made her life complete; her siblings, 
Margaret Stack Crowley and Con Stack of Co. Kerry Ireland, Richard Stack and 
John Stack of Co. Cork, Ireland, Dan Stack of Co. Cheshire, England, and Marie 
Stack Cramer of Houston, Texas; as well as 32 nieces and nephews located in 
Ireland, England and the United States. 

Bridget is the daughter of the late Michael Stack and the late Johannah 
Shanahan Stack, both of Co. Kerry, Ireland. She was preceded in death by her 
brothers, Patrick Stack, Michael Stack and Thomas Stack, and her nephew, John 
Brendan Stack. 

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Lakeview 
Regional Medical Center and St. Tammany Hospice for their relentless care and 
devotion to Bridget, as well as their emotional support to Bridget's husband, 
daughters and son.

Peter Catholic Church in Covington, Louisiana, on Saturday, June 27, 2009,

PICHON

Enola Jolly-Pichon, 87, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, at Slidell Memorial 
Hospital. She was born to the union of George Brown and Luvenia Smith.

She was the adored wife of the late James Jolly by first marriage and Noel 
Pichon by second marriage. To this union was born eight children. Three 
children preceded her in death, Pamela, James and Brenda Jolly (Jackson). She 
was also preceded in death by three siblings, one son-in-law, two grandchildren 
and two great-grandchildren.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory five children, Adrian Bolden, Mary Ann 
(Lionel) Hicks, George (Joyce) Jolly, Donna Jolly and Ronald Jolly. She is also 
survived by eight siblings, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; five 
great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and 
friends.

The home-going celebration will be Saturday with visitation from 9-11 a.m. and 
service immediately following at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church, 2457 Second St., 
Slidell. 

Interment will follow in Slidell Memorial Cemetery.

2009.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Michael Michalik; two sons, Donnie

Bremmerman; her mother Gloria Moore; two sisters, Corinne and Pauline Moore;

Humberto G. "Bert" Pena, 86, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, 
at Northshore Living Center in Slidell.

He was the beloved husband of the late Iris Kearns Pena; father of Tom Pena and 
wife Annette, Chris Pena and wife Linda, Elizabeth Frierson and husband Don, 
Mike Pena, Gerard Pena and wife Trisha and Mary Pena; son of the late Cristobal 
and Maria Lara Pena; and brother of the late Fernando, Javier, Eugenio, 
Eduardo, Ricardo, Mario Pena and Graciela Dolce. 
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Pena was a native of Laredo, Texas, and a resident of Slidell and Picayune, 
Miss., for the last 20 years. Pena retired as the comptroller of Thibodaux 
Regional Medical Center. He received his BBA from Loyola University in New 
Orleans in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World 
War II in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Pena was a former parishioner of St. 
Luke Catholic Church in Slidell and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in 
Picayune.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 
11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates 
Blvd., Slidell. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time.

TUSA

Frank Thomas Tusa, 85, died on Monday, June 15, 2009, at Lakeview Regional 
Medical Center from complications of pneumonia.

He was the beloved husband of the late RoseMary Scardulla Tusa; loving father 
of Dr. Joseph E. Tusa and Annemarie Tusa; father-in-law of Maria D. Tusa; and 
adoring grandfather of Kristin E. Romero (Martin), Lauren R. Walker, Rose M. 
Tusa and Ada F. Tusa. He was the brother of Rosalie Riccobono, Paul Tusa, and 
Margaret Naccarella, as well as the late Josephine Riccobono, Joseph Tusa, Anna 
Mae LaMarca and Vincent Tusa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Tusa and Anna Rizzuto Tusa.

Tusa was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Mandeville for the past 14 
years. He was a graduate of Tulane University with a degree in education, 
majoring in mathematics and also a graduate of Loyola University School of 
Pharmacy where he graduated first in his class. He was a retired pharmacist and 
former owner of Parkway Rexall Drugs in Terrytown and Tusa Drugs in Harvey.

He was an usher and member of the Knights of Columbus at Mary Queen of Peace 
Catholic Church in Mandeville and a longtime volunteer at Lakeview Regional 
Medical Center.

Funeral Mass and interment will be private.

Henry Joseph Delatte Jr., 77, of Lacombe, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009.

He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Mae Daniel Delatte; longtime 
companion of Rose Fradella Camp; father of Debra Vagle (Craig), Darnell Reyes 
(Ronnie) and Michael Delatte (Darlene); son-in-law of Mercedes B. Daniel; and 
brother of the late Ethel Sotile. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 
Crystal, Christopher, Ashley, Daniel and Eric; two great grandchildren, 
Jayleigh and Jaycob; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Delatte was a native of Donaldsonville and a former longtime resident of New 
Orleans. He was a bricklayer and a member of Bricklayers and Allied 
Craftworkers Local No. 6 Union. He was also a longtime parishioner of St. Maria 
Goretti Catholic Church.

Aline Augusta Lauter Falk passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.

Beloved mother of Linda Stalder and her husband Steve, Kay Will and her husband 
Kenny and Norman Falk, II and his wife Cindy; grandmother to Kelli, Marnie, 
Mike, Brett, Mark, Aaron, Megan, Samantha and Summer. She was also survived by 
13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman A. 
Falk; her mother, Adeline Aline McMichael Lauter; her father, Gustav George 
Lauter; and a brother, Edwin M. Lauter.

Age 85 years, she was native of Amite, LA and a resident of Covington, LA for 
the past 2 years. She was a very creative and talented artist who won numerous 
awards for her oil paintings and ceramics in the New Orleans area.

Leroy Lovering Smith passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. 

He was born June 24, 1925 to the late Gustave and Edna Smith and has been a 
life resident of Mandeville.

He is survived by six children: Gretchen, Craig, Phoebe, Melisa, Marian and Tim 
and seven grandchildren.

His childhood was spent fishing, hunting and trapping on Lake Pontchartrain and 
the surrounding rivers and marshes. Helping his father build houses, tending to 
cattle and working at the family's ice house in Mandeville also kept him busy. 
At age 14, he found time for schooling and helped the other students and the 
community by driving the school bus. A veteran of the Navy during World War II, 
he served his country in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Fremont.

The family celebrated private memorial services and will inter his remain at 
the Mandeville cemetery at a later date.

Ruby Ortopan Brown, 90, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of the late Robert F. Brown; daughter of the late 
Joseph and Verna Jane Ortopan; sister of Leroy Ortopan of San Francisco, John 
Ortopan of Mesa, Ariz., Dorothy Dore of Slidell and Edward Ortopan, of Akron, 
Ohio. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A native of Akron, Brown was a riveter for Goodyear Aircraft during World War 
II. She was a longtime resident of St. Louis and a resident of Slidell since 
2006.

After private services, Brown will be buried next to her husband in Mt. Lebanon 
Cemetery in St. Ann, Mo.

Cucinello was a native and longtime resident of New Orleans and a former 
resident of Slidell.

Charline Chapman Frazier, 81, of Slidell, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, 
at Regency Hospital in Covington.

She was the beloved wife of Earl Colon Frazier, Slidell; mother of David E. 
Frazier (and wife, Lisa) and Dan "Danny" Frazier; daughter of the late Earl 
Charles and Mary Jacobs Chapman; and sister of Mary Alice Chapman Hopper and 
Pauline Chapman Branch. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Chris and 
Brad Frazier.

A native of Lumberton, Miss., and resident of Slidell since 1962, Frazier was a 
retired real estate agent for Century 21 Realty, Distinctive Real Estate, Inc., 
and Keller Williams Realty. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church 
of Slidell.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell with the 
Rev. Jim Baham officiating. 
Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Roger Martin, Wesley Martin, James Howard Martin, Donna Lester and Betty Akers. 

He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Christopher Howard, Kevin Buckley, 
Chad Buckley, Corey Butts, Codey Butts, Kathryn Edwards, Christina Edwards, 
Brooke Fagot, Jennifer Long, Joseph Labarge, Jilian Lamont and Ellis Lamont; 
and four great grandchildren, C.J. Buckley, Richie Buckley, Kaden Buckley and 
Shaelyn Buckley.

Martin was a native of Chilhowie, Va., and a resident of Slidell since the 
early 1960's. He was an agent with State Farm Ins. Co. for the past 45 years. 
He was a member of the Slidell Elks and Slidell Moose Lodge and the Krewe's of 
Dionysus and Perseus in Slidell. He was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist 
Church in Slidell.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Chruch in Slidell. 
Interment will be on Friday at Martin Cemetery in Chilhowie, Va.

ROBINSON

Nevada May Robinson, native of Monticello, Mississippi and resident of Slidell 
since 1957 died Sunday, June 21, 2006. 

She was the wife of the late Clyde J. Robinson for 52 1/2 years until his death 
in March 2006. She was born to the late Shirley Arthur and Olevia B. May on 
Nov. 1, 1935, the eldest of nine children.

She was a member of the Starlight Missionary since August 1957 where she served 
on the church's usher board for nearly 50 years. She was also a member of King 
Solomon Chapter 122 of the Order of Eastern Star since 1969 and served as 
treasurer for 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde J. Robinson; parents, Shirley 
Arthur and Olevia Bullock May; two brothers, Lee Arthur May and Shirley Arthur 
May Jr.; and one sister, Ardelle May.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her four devoted children and their 
spouses, Jean E. Robinson of Baton Rouge, Annie B. Robinson of West Richland, 
W. Va., Lester (Minnie) Robinson of Picayune, Miss., and Clyde Edward 
(Patricia) Robinson of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Taiwana "Nikki" 
(Frederick) Hearn of Baker, Latrisha Poole of College Park, Ga., Brandon Miller 
and Spenser Robinson of Tucson, Ariz., Ed L. Bickham of Chicago, Terrance and 
Lester Robinson Jr. of Picayune; and; five great-grandchildren, DeTallion, 
DeMarco, Ashleigh Sophia, Emmitt, and Jordan.

Eugenia "Jean" Valley Rouyer, 96, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009. 

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for the past 13 
years.

Eugenia was the daughter of the late Robert Adolph Valley and Florence Conner 
Valley; and the sister of the late Robert, Florence, Christopher, Francis, 
Joseph, Edward Valley, Henrietta "Ettie" V. Werner and Mary V. Hooper. 
She was the wife of the late Elmore C. Rouyer and the mother of Ray A. Rouyer 
(Laura), Irene M. Rouyer, Lynn A. Rouyer, and the late Glen E. Rouyer. 
She is also survived by three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Eugenia was a caring and loving homemaker who was devoted to her family and was 
willing to do anything for them. Her creativity and sense of humor were always 
a source of joy in their lives. She will be dearly remembered.

He was born July 8, 1950, in Rockford, Ill., where he was the youngest of six

He is survived by two brothers, Jerry and George Sessions; and nieces and 
nephews. He was a friend to many that knew him.

Dianne Hopkins Miller, born Aug. 30, 1952, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009. 

She was raised in the Slidell/Pearl River area and was the mother of 
Christopher James Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldora and Clifton Hopkins Sr.

Services will be held from 9-11 a.m. at Quillen Temple COGIC, 812 Stanly St.,

Mary Helen Ruiz, 72, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009. She was formerly of 
Portland, Ore., St. Bernard and long time resident of Pearl River.

She is survived by eight sons, Lawrence Meeks, David Ruiz Sr., Michael B. Ruiz, 
Malcom L. English; and daughters, Laurel Ruiz English, Darleen Ruiz (wife of 
Michael), Janice Meeks (wife of Lawrence) and Tammy Ruiz (wife of David); 
brother, Daniel J. Ruiz Sr.; and sisters, Patricia Palmer, Carol Corbett, 
Kathleen Julkowski and Betty Karr. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 
14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clarence Bernard "Pops" Ruiz; 
mother, Helen Evans; and mother and father of the heart, Carmelita Ruiz 
Assavedo and Frank Assevado.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today at Thompson Road Baptist Church 
with the Randy Boyet officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests 
donations be made to Lakeshore Hospice Care.

Rita Rice Wilson, 81, passed away at her residence in Lacombe on Saturday, June 
20, 2009.

Rita was a native of Bridgeport, W. Va., and resident of New Orleans for 47 
years.

She relocated to West Virginia following Hurricane Katrina.

She was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" F. Wilson, and she is 
survived by five children, Suzanne Wilson, Sally Aldrich (William "Bill"), 
William "Billy" F. Wilson Jr., Daniel Wilson (Gina), and Scott Wilson; nine 
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Rice (Jane), Jim 
Rice (Bobbie), Don Rice (Carolyn), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and 
friends.

Hugh Chamberlin Blair, beloved husband, loving father and grandfather, was born 
in Plaquemine, LA on March 26, 1923 and passed away at home in Covington on 
June 27, 2009.

Preceded in death by his wife Irene Picket Blair, he is survived by one son, 
Hugh Chamberlin Blair, Jr.; one daughter, Susan Blair Medley and three 
grandchildren: Thomas Lewis, Sarah Medley and Amelia Medley. He is also 
survived by his sister, Mary Blair Parramore and one brother, Edwin Albro 
Blair. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Arthur Blair and two sisters, Helen 
Diltz and Marguerite Mouton.

Mr. Blair was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII , attended Grinnell University 
and graduated from LSU with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for 
Allis Chalmers in various sales and management positions until 1972 when he 
formed his own company in Baton Rouge.

He retired to Covington where he grew up and was active in Christ Episcopal 
Church. He was also an avid fisherman and traveled extensively.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services at 
12:30 PM on Sunday, July 5, 2009 from Christ Episcopal Church, 120 S. New 
Hampshire St., Covington, LA 70433.

Visitation in the historic chapel will begin at 11:30 AM.

Interment at Garden District Cemetery will follow services.

Cecil William Haggard, Sr. passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009.

Beloved husband of 22 years to Mary Louise Motichek Haggard; loving father to

Glass, Dennis Glass, Melvin Glass, Perry Glass and Vicky Crow. He is also

Haggard; and his father, Harvey Haggard.

Age 81 years, he was native of Rock Springs, AR and a resident of Madisonville,

Patricia Lee Lynch passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009. She was born January 
3, 1949 in Jasper, GA to Lee Harold White and Jessie Beatrice Mullinax White 
and was a resident of Covington.

The beloved wife of Robert C. Lynch, she is survived by her daughter, Candice 
Danielle Burch; two sons: Darryle Scott Childers and Harley Gregory Childers 
and two step-children, Shane Patrick Lynch and Marianne Kay Lynch. 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Randall Philyaw.

The family celebrated Patricia's life with private memorial services.

Dr. Clayton Justus Overton, Jr. went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 
27, 2009.

The beloved husband of Charlotte Schmidt Overton, he is survived by two sons, 
Dr. Clayton Justus Overton, III (Barbara Cook Overton) of Eureka, CA and John 
Hampton Overton (Sharon Chetty Overton) of New Orleans, LA; one grandson, 
Clayton Justus Overton, IV and three sisters: Carroll Waller (former MS 
Governor Bill Waller), Gloria Martin Joy Holmes and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Clayton J., Sr. and Edith Watkins 
Overton.

A native of Jackson, MS, he was a graduate of Millsaps College and Tulane 
University Medical School. He was a member of the AOA Honorary Medical Society. 
He served his country in the U.S. Navy at the Bay of Pigs as a part of the 
medical team aboard the USS Monrovia.

Before retiring to Covington, LA seven years ago, he practiced orthopedic 
surgery in California for 36 years as a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He 
also built a successful Amway business in the U.S., as well as internationally. 
He served on the Board for Orthopedics Overseas and he volunteered two months 
of his last year practicing in Bhutan.

Memorial service were held July 6, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Covington, 
LA.

survived by 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was also loved by

He was a native of New Orleans and Metairie, LA and a resident of Covington, 
LA.

He served in WW II in the Atlantic and Pacific as I, II, III Engineer Officer, 
and was honorably discharged from the US Coast Guard. He was a member of the 
Good Ole Metairie Boys; twice past president, and member of the Metairie High 
School Alumni Association.

Steven Joseph Bonnet passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the age of 45. A 
native of New Orleans and a resident of Mandeville for the past 11 years,

Steve is the beloved husband of Traci Richard Bonnet for 20 years, devoted 
father of Justin Mathew, Bryan Michael and Heather Marie Bonnet; devoted son of 
Lorraine Schmidt Douglas, husband Donald C., and James E. Bonnet. Loving 
brother of Beth Ann Norris, husband Don; brother-in-law of Karen and Tony 
Eller. He is also survived by four nieces and nephews: Blake and Tessa Norris 
and Ashley, Daniel Scott Eller and his father-in-law, Hank Richard.

A graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School in 1981, he was the Assistant Store 
Manager at Rouse's Grocery Store in Mandeville. Steve and Traci have been 
foster parents in St. Tammany for 10 years and he cared so deeply for all his 
family and friends. His loving touch will be missed and cherished forever.

Wanda Cox, 68, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of Richard Cox; mother of Ken Cox (and wife Liz) and 
Diana Kilmer (and husband Lucky); and sister of Mary Lee Lucas and Tommy 
Saunders. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brittany, Chad, Justin, 
Allison, Chance and Chase.

Cox lived in Slidell for many years before settling in Cuero, Texas. She was a 
longtime employee of the Slidell Sentry-News/St. Tammany News as an advertising 
account executive.

She touched many lives with her caring personality and sense of humor and will 
be missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Freund Funeral Home in Cuero.

Lester "Honey" Fredrick Hezeau Jr., 67, died peacefully surrounded by his 
family after a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was well known for his dedication to his family, friends and animals. He was 
a retired employee of Tenneco Refinery in Chalmette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Hezeau Sr. and Mary Hezeau.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Fay Hezeau; and three wonderful 
children, Kevin Hezeau, Philip Hezeau and Sherrie Hezeau Frisard. He was the 
proud grandfather of Kevin Hezeau Jr., Samantha Frisard, Taylor Frisard and 
Lauren Hezeau. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Ohler, along with a number 
of nieces and nephews, and his chocolate lab Baby Girl.

Relatives, friends of the family, employees of Tenneco Oil Refinery and the New 
Orleans French Market are invited to attend the funeral services at 11 a.m. 
Wednesday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn

He was a resident of Covington.

and a cousin.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Leonard Lavigne; his mother, Julia

Langlois Leonard and Jonathan D. Langlois; his stepdaughters, Karling Bennett 
and Katie Bennett (who is serving in country in Afghanistan) and his aunts,

Lutgardo Vincent Silva passed away on Monday, June 29, 2009.

Beloved father of Jose L. Silva, Luke R. Silva, Mercedes Silva Perich and 
Teresa Silva. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-
grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 
wife, Teresa Torres Silva; a son, Mike A. Silva; a daughter, Yolanda Silva; a 
grandson, Gilberto Romo, Jr.; his mother, Consuelo Subirat Silva; and his 
father, Joseph Reyes Silva.

Age 96 years, he was native of Cienfuegos, Cuba and a resident of Mandeville, 
LA for the past 38 years. He was a decorated United States Coast Guard Veteran 
who served during World War II.

on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann Church and National Shrine, 4940

SNYDER

John Henry Snyder was born Dec. 3, 1924, in Carthage, Mo. 

Soon after his birth, the family moved to Nevada, Mo.

He graduated from Nevada High School in 1942, spent one year at the University 
of Montana and was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Also while in the 
Navy, he received a degree in engineering from Rice University in 1946.

He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Ann Hoffmann, in 1948. Their 
56-year marriage ended upon Marjorie's death in 2004. 

John was a 34 year employee of Amoco Oil Company and at the time of his 
retirement in 1982, he and Marge were living in Mandeville. They soon moved to 
Winter Springs, Fla., where they lived until Marge's death.

John then moved to Tulsa, Okla., in 2005 until his death Saturday, June 20, 
2009. John and Marge had two children, a son, Johnny, who died at 12, and 
Sidney Snyder, who presently lives in Orlando.

John is also survived by a brother, Bill Snyder; and two nieces, Kendra Polanco 
and Dianne Hixenbaugh, all of Tulsa.

Died Tuesday, June 30, 2011

Robert Franklin Downs Jr., of Slidell, with his family by his side, passed from 
this life to the next on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home after a long 
illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Scott Downs and Robert F. Downs 
Sr.; and his sister, Gloria Downs Poole.

He was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Antoinette Bosco 
Downs; and father to S. Scott Downs, Toni Downs Hunt, Elizabeth Downs Tabor and 
Nicole Downs Mowen. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cary and Lindsay 
Lapouble, Hannah Downs, Samantha and Peyton Tabor and Alexis and Chas Mowen IV. 
He will also be missed by sons-in-law, Joel Hunt, Brent Tabor and Chas Mowen 
III; as well as nieces, Penny Poole Rohlinger and Ginger Poole Smallwood.

Robert, known to all as Frank, was born on August 8, 1941, in Ashland, Ohio, 
but lived most of his life in Slidell. He graduated from Slidell High School in 
1961. He attended Southeastern Louisiana College where he graduated in 1965 
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for 
various companies including Foster Awning, Cat's Meow and Lewis Stables.

Frank was a special father to his four children and wonderful grandfather to 
his seven grandchildren. He was an avid gardener spending countless hours 
nurturing his plants, trees and flowers and got great joy from the enjoyment 
that everyone received from their beauty and the conversations that followed. 

Frank's endless patience and attention to detail enabled him to be a master 
model ship builder. He created exact wooden replicas of many historic ships 
such as the Princess Caroline, Cutty Sark, the Thermopylae, and the Sovereign 
of the Seas. 

Because of his gentle and caring nature he won't be forgotten by those that 
loved and cared for him.

The memorial service was held Thursday at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice in lieu of flowers.

Victor A. Santi, PhD, an internationally published and renowned Machiavellian 
scholar, passed away at his home after a long illness on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 
at the age of 61.

Beloved husband of Connie Santi. Father of Christina Santi, Anna Bereziuk and 
Bret Sons and his wife Cyndi Sons. Son of the late Francesca Mordini Santi and 
John Santi. Grandfather of Zack and Nick Sons.

Dr. Santi was an Italian citizen who resided in the U.S. since childhood, 
received his bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin and his PhD from 
UCLA. He was a professor for 26 years and former Chair of the Foreign Languages

on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral 
Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Thursday 
evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Friday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Community Care
