Eason passed away after a battle with lung cancer at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne DeBuys Eason; sons Albert Eason, Jr., and William Eason; daughters Elizabeth Zeringue, Kathleen Dillon, and Susan Blake; sons-in-law Mickey Zeringue and Jerry Dillon; future daughter-in- law Rachel Prestenbach and eight grandchildren. For many years he and his family lived in Metairie where Mr. Eason was a real estate appraiser and former president of the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers. He also served on the board of the Department of Health and Human Resources Committee. He later moved to St. Tammany Parish and worked for the Assessor's Office as supervisor of the Slidell office. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice Compassus. Peterson and Alphonse Peterson, Jr. Hattie was the daughter of the late Evans Smooth and Mary Johnson Smooth; sister of Monroe Smooth, Sr. (Marie), and the late Abraham Smooth, Clarence Smooth and Shirley Harrison. She is also also survived by six grandchildren, Elston Peterson, Tammy Peterson, Fabian Daniels, Brian Peterson, Roderick Peterson and Tredon Peterson and four great-grandchildren. Hattie was a lifelong resident of Slidell. She was a member of New Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Slidell. Cantrell was born April 13, 1933, in Norfolk, Va. He was a veteran who served aboard a destroyer in the U.S. Navy honoring his country in the Korean Conflict. Cantrell married Ursula Soniat on Nov. 25, 1956, and they were blessed with 56 years of children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Cantrell; brother Cree Cantrell and his wife. He is survived by five children, Carle Cantrell of Charleston, S. C., Joseph Cantrell of Picayune, Miss., Carolyn Martin (Ron) of Lacombe, Renee Lumpkin (Kelly) of Walker and Michelle Jarrell (Jake) of Picayune, Miss.; five granddaughters, Kelli, Heather, Brittany, Ashley and Danielle; two great- grandchildren, Alexis and Colton; and numerous loving family members and friends. A lifelong resident of Slidell, she was a graduate of Slidell High School where she was a Tiger cheerleader. Patsy was well known for her artistic abilities and creative ideas as owner of Patsy's Floral Fashions for over 20 years. She was a member of the Slidell First United Metholist Church and the Slidell Women's Civic Club, serving as Queen Samaritan. Other community involvements included being a lifetime member of the Slidell Jaynes, Slidell Christians' Singles group and Ozone Camilla Club, and while in college at Texas Tech, she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority - just to name a few. Throughout her lifetime, she contributed numerous hours to the schools in which her children attended, serving on PTA boards and as room mother for many years. Patsy was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William L. "Bill" Folse Jr.; and her parents, Edward and Gladys B. Kennedy. She was the mother of William L. "Trey" Folse III, David E. After graduation from Vanderbilt, She was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy, where she proudly served her country. Duckert Jr., 76, died Friday, June 5, 2009. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of June Castanade Duckert; father of Milton Duckert III, Pamela Whitecotton (husband, Fred) and Tommy Duckert; grandfather of Brad Duckert (wife, Kelly), Brian Cook (wife, Kelly), Rebecca, Sarah and Michael Duckert; great-grandfather of Cameron Cook, Audrey (A.J.) Duckert and Ainsley Cook; son of the late Milton A. and Georgia Coleman Duckert; and brother of Gayle D. Heuer (Dennis). He is also survived by three nieces. He was a New Orleans native, retired from the printing industry and a 32-year resident of Chalmette until relocating to Slidell after Hurricane Katrina. He was a true Louisiana outdoorsman and avid fisherman his entire life in the costal marshes of St. Bernard. His golden times were always on the water, in fishing camps or in his boat with his many close friends searching for the next big catch. He was a first hand witness to the coastal erosion of the last 45 years and was a passionate advocate for the closure of the MRGO waterway. In 1949, she was crowned Miss Houston and continued as a professional model. Later in life, she owned "Yoga by Mary" in Metairie, LA, where she taught Yoga for many years before moving to Mandeville, LA. She retired from Goodwill Industries after working as the store manager for 20 years. She was a member of Goodyear Baptist Church and involved in many church activities all her life. She became a Sunday School teacher at 15; she taught BYPU classes and both children and adult Sunday School Classes. She was a Cub Scout den mother for many years when her children were young. Avis was a very loving person and was a caregiver to three special people. She will be long remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Bridget was born in Newtownsandes, Co. Kerry, Ireland. When Bridget was only 18 years old, she and her brother, Patrick, left the Emerald Isle for the United States. She went on to graduate from Charity School of Nursing and the University of St. Francis. Bridget worked at Charity Hospital for 26 years, and supervised the O.R. there for 20 of those years. She was also the Director of Nursing at both the Manhattan Manor on the Westbank and the New Orleans Home and Rehabilitation Center, Uptown. She later worked as a supervisor at Jo Ellen Smith Psychiatric Hospital. Bridget was a dedicated nurse and humanitarian for more than 40 years. Her life was a great example that anything is possible if you want to work for it. Bridget had a great sense of humor and never lost her beautiful Irish accent. She was an amazing cook and was always up for a party. Her eggplant and shrimp dressing and coffee punch were bar none. Bridget loved to travel and had seen many places all over the world, including Paris, London, Rome and the Caribbean. In October, she was blessed to have an opportunity to go home to Ireland to visit her siblings and extended family. She also recently enjoyed a short vacation in Disney World. Bridget's family and her close knit group of friends sustained her. Bridget is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 44 years, Michael John Guidry. Theirs marked one of the greatest unions of unique cultures, the Irish girl and the Cajun boy. His childhood was spent fishing, hunting and trapping on Lake Pontchartrain and the surrounding rivers and marshes. Helping his father build houses, tending to cattle and working at the family's ice house in Mandeville also kept him busy. At age 14, he found time for schooling and helped the other students and the community by driving the school bus. A veteran of the Navy during World War II, he served his country in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Fremont. The beloved husband of Charlotte Schmidt Overton, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Clayton Justus Overton, III (Barbara Cook Overton) of Eureka, CA and John Hampton Overton (Sharon Chetty Overton) of New Orleans, LA; one grandson, Clayton Justus Overton, IV and three sisters: Carroll Waller (former MS Governor Bill Waller), Gloria Martin Joy Holmes and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Clayton J., Sr. and Edith Watkins Overton. A native of Jackson, MS, he was a graduate of Millsaps College and Tulane University Medical School. He was a member of the AOA Honorary Medical Society. He served his country in the U.S. Navy at the Bay of Pigs as a part of the medical team aboard the USS Monrovia. Before retiring to Covington, LA seven years ago, he practiced orthopedic surgery in California for 36 years as a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He also built a successful Amway business in the U.S., as well as internationally. He served on the Board for Orthopedics Overseas and he volunteered two months of his last year practicing in Bhutan. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Nevada, Mo. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1942, spent one year at the University of Montana and was in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Also while in the Navy, he received a degree in engineering from Rice University in 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Ann Hoffmann, in 1948. Their 56-year marriage ended upon Marjorie's death in 2004. John was a 34 year employee of Amoco Oil Company and at the time of his retirement in 1982, he and Marge were living in Mandeville. They soon moved to Winter Springs, Fla., where they lived until Marge's death. John then moved to Tulsa, Okla., in 2005 until his death Saturday, June 20, 2009. John and Marge had two children, a son, Johnny, who died at 12, and Sidney Snyder, who presently lives in Orlando. DOWNS Died Tuesday, June 30, 2011 Robert Franklin Downs Jr., of Slidell, with his family by his side, passed from this life to the next on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at his home after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Scott Downs and Robert F. Downs Sr.; and his sister, Gloria Downs Poole. He was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Antoinette Bosco Downs; and father to S. Scott Downs, Toni Downs Hunt, Elizabeth Downs Tabor and Nicole Downs Mowen. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cary and Lindsay Lapouble, Hannah Downs, Samantha and Peyton Tabor and Alexis and Chas Mowen IV. He will also be missed by sons-in-law, Joel Hunt, Brent Tabor and Chas Mowen III; as well as nieces, Penny Poole Rohlinger and Ginger Poole Smallwood. Robert, known to all as Frank, was born on August 8, 1941, in Ashland, Ohio, but lived most of his life in Slidell. He graduated from Slidell High School in 1961. He attended Southeastern Louisiana College where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for various companies including Foster Awning, Cat's Meow and Lewis Stables. Frank was a special father to his four children and wonderful grandfather to his seven grandchildren. He was an avid gardener spending countless hours nurturing his plants, trees and flowers and got great joy from the enjoyment that everyone received from their beauty and the conversations that followed. Frank's endless patience and attention to detail enabled him to be a master model ship builder. He created exact wooden replicas of many historic ships such as the Princess Caroline, Cutty Sark, the Thermopylae, and the Sovereign of the Seas. Because of his gentle and caring nature he won't be forgotten by those that loved and cared for him. The memorial service was held Thursday at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell.
