He was born May 13, 1926 in La Moure, North Dakota to the late Karl and Caroline Kaloubeck Brandes and has been a resident of Covington for over 30 years. The beloved husband of Helena Sokolski Brandes, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa C.O. Brandes of New Haven, CT; his son: William C. He was 64 years old and a resident of the New Orleans area for the past 38 years. Jim was born in Bayonne, New Jersey and was a graduate of Villanova University and Tulane Law School. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and served as a platoon commander in the Republic of Vietnam. He retired from the Marine Corps as a captain. For the past 35 years, he maintained a litigation defense practice in New Orleans, and was actively engaged with the local bar association and the American Bar Association, where he has served as Chair and Section Council Member of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section. David King, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation rites were held at Ocean View Memory Gardens Crematory in Coos Bay under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel. Jenny was born Dec. 26, 1960, in Chicago, the daughter of James and Joan (Terry) Roberts. She died July 27, 2009, in Coos Bay. She began her nursing career at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Jenny then moved to Durham, N.C., where she joined the neonatal intensive care unit at Duke University Medical Center. She was involved in pioneering research, which published evidenced research in the physical healing abilities of musical vibration. Jenny later moved with her children to Coos Bay, where she worked at Bay Area Hospital in the ICU and IMCU units. She was involved in local theatrical productions, especially "Mikado" and "Alice in Wonderland." Jenny served two years as the local Christian Women's Club president and was a member of the Hauser Community Church. DeBellevue. He was born in Marksville LA 'Cajun Country' on June 26, 1916 and moved to New Orleans in 1928. He attended McDonogh No 9 Grammar School and graduated from St Peters High School June 1934. At the age of 18 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps., which was instrumental in building State Parks Chemi Haut near Monroe Louisiana and the Fountainbleau state park near Mandeville. Vallee met and married Clair Ana May LaCroix on June 27, 1940 and they were blessed with three children. Val had a long working career including working at the Falstaff brewery, Clerk for the City of New Orleans and Hod carrier for $1.00 hour in the thirties. In 1943 Vallee worked at Higgins Marine first as a carpenter then as a Marine Electrician. He was promoted to Chief Electrician and worked on the Victory Ships during the war until he started at Kaiser Aluminum in 1952. After 20 years he retired, moved to Covington and worked for himself as an electrician and handyman. He was a parishioner at St. Peter Catholic Church and a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Covington Lions Club. He is survived by three children: Diane DeBellevue Kramer, Dr. Vallee DeBellevue Jr., and Andre' DeBellevue. David Meade Johnson passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at the age of 75. He was a resident of Mandeville for the past 13 years and had lived and worked in the New Orleans metro area since 1971. He was a retired deputy director of the Federal Maritime Commission in New Orleans, a Vietnam War veteran, a retired hurricane hunter with the 815 WRS at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS and most recently he worked part-time in the radiology file room at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. A native of Jamestown, N.Y., he was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Johnson; his parents, Walter and Marie Meade Johnson; and his brother, Keith Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, D. "Hal" Payne, 83, of Slidell, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009. He was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Shawtown, Ohio, to Wilbur Clark and Jessie Mae Brecht Payne. He married the former Marilyn G. Tatum on Nov. 24, 1954, in Montgomery, Ala. Payne was a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy, Hal worked for McDonnell Douglas Corp, Martin Marietta and General Dynamics Corp. He was a member of several area Bass clubs and was a lifetime member of Slidell Post 5735 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn Tatum Payne; his parents, Wilbur Clark Payne and Jessie Mae Payne; one son, Harold K. Payne Jr.; and brothers and sisters, Don Payne, Charles Payne, Paul Payne, Clayton Payne, Lester Payne, Marvis Shrider, Thelma Payne and Evelyn Payne. He is survived by two children, Bruce Clark Payne and Leslie N. Montana; four grandchildren, Nikko Payne, Dustin Montana, Dylan Montana and Alexis Payne; and three sisters, Marion Starke, Carrie Walsh and Lois Sherman. DeBellevue. He was born in Marksville "Cajun Country" June 26, 1916, and moved to New Orleans in 1928. He attended McDonogh No. 9 Grammar School and graduated from St. Peters High School June 1934. At the age of 18 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps., which was instrumental in building Chemin-A-Haut State Park near Monroe and Fontainebleau State Park near Mandeville. Vallee married Clair Ana May LaCroix on June 27, 1940, and they were blessed with three children. Val had a long working career including working at the Falstaff brewery, Clerk for the City of New Orleans and Hod carrier for $1 hour in the 1930s. In 1943, Vallee worked at Higgins Marine first as a carpenter then as a marine electrician. He was promoted to chief electrician and worked on the Victory Ships during the war until he started at Kaiser Aluminum in 1952. After 20 years he retired, moved to Covington and worked for himself as an electrician and handyman. He was a parishioner at St. Peter Catholic Church and a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Covington Lions Club. He is survived by three children, Diane DeBellevue Kramer, Dr. Vallee DeBellevue Jr. and Andre' DeBellevue. He is the father-in-law of Albert A. Kramer Jr., Diane Indelocato DeBellevue and Sandra Alexander DeBellevue and was blessed with seven grandchildren, Karen Kramer Johnson, Albert A. "Tony" Kramer III, Kevin and Cheryl Kramer, Vallee A. "Trey" DeBellevue III, Haily and Steven Alexander. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren who will miss their Paw Paw very much. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. McElveen; mother of Robert W. McElveen; daughter of the late Leonard H. and Nellie Seal Revere; and sister of the late Elmo Revere, Paul Revere and Ray Revere. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Dr. Cathy McElveen Del Castillo, and three great-grandchildren, Catherine, Corinne and Dahlia Del Castillo, all of Montrose, Calif.; also survived by several nieces, and nephews. McElveen was a native of Bogalusa, a longtime resident of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1981. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and of the Eastern Star. Al departed this life of loving family and friends to be united with God and reunited with his daughter, Pamela Maria. Al is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 57 years, Frankie P. Hueschen. Al's life was fulfilled with the love of four children, the late Pamela Hueschen Watson, Ricke Hueschen (Libby), Bryan Hueschen and Michelle Hueschen Sharp (Clinton). He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Estelle Hueschen and leaves behind one sister, Gail Hueschen. Al was born in New Orleans on Aug. 11, 1931, and lived in Slidell until he retired to Picayune, Miss. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served in the Army Infantry. Al worked as a draftsman for Southern Shipbuilding Corp. for more than 35 years. Al had the kindest heart, the ability to love so deeply and a laugh we will never forget. He will be greatly missed by six grandchildren who adored him tremendously along with many nieces and nephews. He served as both President and as a board member of the St. Tammany Parish Fair Association and the St. Tammany Parish Jr. Livestock Fund. He was the founder of the Jr. Bucket Calf Program and was honored by having the St. Tammany Parish Fair dedicated to him and his many years of service to the association. In addition, he was a lifelong supporter of the Folsom Recreation Youth Program, having coached and sponsored youth for many years. Buster touched many lives during his walk in life and will be deeply missed by all. He taught physics classes at LSU and studied chemistry in graduate school. He enlisted during WWII and he, along with the best and brightest from this nation's universities, was chosen to create the U.S. Army Office of Strategic Services. He was distinguished in service of the Special Operations Branch of the OSS. He was an organic chemist and an avid sportsman who loved to carve his own lures and hunt and fish with his friends and family. He enjoyed growing vegetables for the food bank and friends and family. He was an active member of the Bogalusa Masonic Center Lodge 244 F&AM and Elizabeth Sullivan Memorial Methodist Church. After a six month bout with cancer, he passed over peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Nuni was born Jan. 18, 1929, the son of Clarence Joseph Galatas Sr. and Isabel Pichon Galatas. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Warren "Jack" Galatas. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Faye McPherson Galatas; by his three children, Roxanne Galatas Lord, Kevin Alan Galatas and Benita Galatas Santini; by five grandchildren, Dawn Elise Abney, Joseph Anthony Galatas, Maria Isabel Santini, Nicholas Alexander Galatas and Rebecca Elizabeth Galatas; by his sister, Carolyn Galatas Crockett; his brother, Huey Paul Galatas; by a brother-in-law, Donald Crockett; two devoted sons-in-law, Jeff Lord and Geoffrey Santini; and by nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Nuni. As one of the founding members of the Salmen High Athletic Boosters, one of his proudest achievements was helping to bring varsity football to a brand new Salmen High School in 1968. He was the founder of the Junior Bucket Calf Program and was honored by having the St. Tammany Parish Fair dedicated to him and his many years of service to the association.In addition, he was a lifelong supporter of the Folsom Recreation Youth Program, having coached and sponsored youth for many years. Peco was a member of the Knights of Columbus, John F. Kennedy Council No. 2952. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW in Hammond. Surviving him are his wife of 64 years, Pat J. Peco; son and daughter-in-law, Vic and Virginia Guiffreda Peco; daughter, Nathalie Peco Bates; five grandchildren, Kelli Bankston Colona, Jenny Bankston, Greg Peco, Patti Bankston and Mary Claire Peco; and five great-grandchildren, Parker Colona, Piper Colona, Ethan DeBarraicua, Mazlin White and Jonas DeBarraicua.
