He was the son of the late Denis John Bergeron Sr. and Edna Ory Bergeron of New Orleans. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 63 years, June Koepp Bergeron; his son Denis John Bergeron III and wife Sarah Bergeron; his daughters, Denise Anne Bergeron and Janis Bergeron Lakin; and his grandchildren John Bergeron, McLean Bergeron and Nicole Bergeron. He was a graduate of LSU and served in the U.S. Army for two and a half years in the South Pacific during World War II. He was an automobile dealer since 1966 and the founder of Bergeron Plymouth-Chrysler. He was an active member of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, chairman of the Chrysler National Dealer Council and the 1979 Louisiana Automobile Dealer of the Year. A private service was held Sunday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home in Covington. Sonya was born Dec. 1, 1936, in Lakeview, Texas. She was the daughter of Glen Verden and Willie Sybil McGee Verden. She graduated from Lakeview High School. She worked 25 years as a manager at Wal- mart in Slidell. Sonya was a member of First Baptist Church in Gatesville. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include daughters, Cindy Bryant and husband Joe of Woodway and Judy Angle of Temecula, Calif; son, Shelbourne Hignight of Slidell; sisters, Josephine Brown and husband J. W. of Gatesville and Cassandra Pitcock and husband Jim of Katy, Texas; brothers, James Verden and Wife Myrtle of Wheeler, Texas, and William Verden and wife Evelyn of Haskell, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jessica Bryant, Jennifer Bilotto and husband Jeremy, Hannah Angle, David Angle, Amanda Hutson and husband Jay, Katy Hignight and Jerad Hig night; and two great-grandchildren, Amar Khaled and Bryant Bilotto. She was the beloved wife of William "Bill" James Jr.; loving mother of William "Bill" James III and wife Barabara H., Maribeth James Guerrera and husband Cyril and Ronald "Ron" James and wife Barbara K. Daughter of the late Mary and Ernest Hentze; grandmother of Darren Guerrera, Jennifer G. Hilderbrandt, Jennifer J. Thibodeaux, Rebecca W. Peters and Kathryn J. Lear; and also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Wally, Joe, Cyril, Fritz, Ernie, Donald and Elaine. She was born on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 1918, in Hammond. She was the daughter of the late Charles Carr and the late Elizabeth Gould Carr. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney Kidder and wife Sylvia, Brian Kidder and wife Cynthia and Dr. David Kidder and wife JoAnn; one daughter and son-in-law, Melanie Gentiles and husband Alan; six grandchildren; five great-gran children and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Armstrong Kidder; and three sisters, Audrey Carr, Maxine Shannon and Bobbie Brown. Mogabgab was born Oct. 15, 1973, in Baton Rouge. He was a graduate of St. Paul's School in Covington. He graduated with a major in history from Millsaps College in Jackson. While attending Millsaps, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and participated on the football and baseball teams. He was active in numerous clubs and organizations and worked as Senior District Manager for A.D.P. He is survived by his beloved son, Stephen Clay Mogabgab; his mother, Annette Jones Mogabgab; his sister, Eva Mogabgab Snapp; his brother-in-law, Jeffrey K. Snapp; his niece, Eva Sloane Snapp; his maternal grandmother, Eva Jones Andress; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was born in San Antonio and a resident of New Orleans and Madisonville for many years. She was the wife of the late Edgar Leonard Plaeger; daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Louis Schiwetz and Franziska Maria Schwarz; sister of the late William Louis Schiwetz and Maximilian Herbert Schiwetz. She is survived by her four loving children, Susan Frances Plaeger (husband, Charles A. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis Hammer Mandot; father of Marcella Mandot Lee (Thomas), Holly Mandot, Paul Jr. (Angelica), Phyllis Beiser (Michael), Sylvia Kennedy (Carl), Barbara Kolovitz (Ken) and Denis Mandot; brother of Col. Barbara Mandot, U.S. Air Force (Ret.) and the late Doris Boudreaux and Denis Mandot. He was the uncle of Alvin Boudreaux, Carolyn Keefe, Pam and John Lagattuta and Lynell Deben. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Paul was a native of New Orleans and a renowned woodsman, trapper and ornamental ironworker and was featured in several PBS documentaries. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre. He is also survived by his stepmother, Colleen J. Pusateri and stepbrother Patrick Cazaubon. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip J. Pusateri of New Orleans and the late Mr. and Mrs. C. Everett Heintz of Covington. He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington. He was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and a past member of the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Benning, Ga. She was the beloved daughter of the late Marie Delphine Chevalier-Curt and Fernand Calixte Joseph Volle of Lyon, France. She was a native of Lyon, a World War II war bride who traveled on the SS Brazil arriving to the United States on April 25, 1946, to begin her new life with her true love, the late Joseph Melvin Griffin, and resided in Covington for 63 years. She is survived by her loving daughter, Marie France Griffin Duracher (husband, David); her two loving grandchildren, Jane Yvonne-Marie "Janie" Duracher and David M. "Buddy" Duracher Jr. of Covington; her sister, Raymonde Chevalier; and nieces and nephews of France. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Robert H. She was the beloved wife of Ulee LeBlanc for the past 61 years. She was the mother of Steven LeBlanc and wife Kathie, Donald LeBlanc and wife Ruby, Susan Elsensohn and husband Glenn and Sandra Provensal and husband Rick; daughter of the late Eve Arceneaux Bergeron and Evest Bergeron; and sister of the late Ethel Landry and Elwood Bergeron. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was a native of New Orleans, a former resident of Chalmette for 10 years and a resident of Slidell since 1992. Along with her husband, Mrs. LeBlanc was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Slidell. He was born Nov. 11, 1931, and a native of New Orleans. He was the beloved son of the late John Jacob Mendel Sr. and Suzanne Dormoy Mendel. John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy "Dottie" Bergeron Mendel. He was the father of Deborah M. Becnel (George), David J. Mendel (Carol), Jeffrey A. Mendel (Sandra) and the late John J. Mendel III (Sheila); grandfather of Ambre M. Colletti (Steven), Philip A., Jonathan Z., Bradley M. and Cynthia A. Mendel; and the great-grandfather of Jackson and Carson Colletti and Adriana Mendel. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Hormel Foods. He was a member of American Legion Post 16 and St. Benedict Catholic Church since 1979, previously of St. Rita Catholic Church in Harahan. He was a lifetime member of the F.C.R.V. camping club. He was a graduate of Alcee Fortier High School in New Orleans in the Class of 1949. The family is grateful to St. Tammany Parish Hospital Hospice for their compassionate care. Interment was in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans. ======================= Source: St. Tammany News (Covington, LA) Published: Tuesday, September 8, 2009 PICHON It was a joyous occasion in Heaven the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, when Sidney Patrick "Pat" Pichon Jr. was met by his loved ones who had gone before him. A Mass of Christian burial to celebrate Pat's life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle. The Rev. Jacob Thomas will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Mass at St. Augustine's Mausoleum. Pat was born Feb. 22, 1941, to the late Sidney Patrick Pichon Sr. and Zita Delores Narcisse Pichon in Slidell. He attended Sacred Heart Elementary in Slidell and graduated from St. Augustine Seminary High School in Bay St. Louis, Miss. Continuing his seminary studies, he attended a university in Techny, Ill., for two years. Afterwards, Pat served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for three years. On July 20, 1968, Pat wed the love of his life, Dorothy Conant, of Cane River. To this union, three children were born, Michelle, Damian and Vanessa. They lived most of their life as a family in San Antonio. In 1993, the family moved to Cane River. Pat worked diligently to support not only his family but also his church communities. He worked for IBM Corporation for 25 years in Los Angeles, Dallas and San Antonio. He also worked for City Bank and Trust for 14 years in Natchitoches and retired in December 2008. In addition to his professional life, he devoted much of his time to serving his church communities, St. Malachi in Los Angeles, Holy Spirit in San Antonio and St. Augustine in Isle Brevelle. Pat loved life. He had a great love of baseball. As a youth he played catcher for his "world-famous" Slidell Creoles and often traveled back to Slidell just for a Creole's game. Pat also loved music and sang in choirs most of his life. Upon his retirement he learned to love traveling, fishing and riding on his grandson's four-wheeler. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; his children; one grandson, Phoenix Pichon; 12 siblings, Ernest Pichon (Wilma), Larry Pichon (Brenda), Mary P. Battle, Ulysses Pichon (Rise'), Gazelle P. Rose (Charles), Claudia P. Campbell (Randall), Armon Pichon (Dale), Malcolm Pichon, Elwin Pichon, Geri P. Medlin (Bennie), Regina P. Harrison and Ursula P. Paige; three aunts, Edna Pichon, Leona Cousin and Thelma La Frere; also, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear and close friends. Begley started diving in 1984 after graduating with a degree in diving technology and worked for Cal Dive International. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Valeria Broome Bily; loving father of Robert K. "Bob" Bily and Linda Susan Bily Troncoso; grandfather to Robert "Robbie" Troncoso Jr., Randall "Randy" Troncoso and Russell "Rusty" Troncoso; and brother to Merlin Bily and his wife Shirley and Douglas Bily and his wife Rose. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Pattison Bily; his father, Herman Joseph Bily; and a sister, Anna Faye Bily Kottemann. Bily was a native of New Orleans, formerly a longtime resident of Metairie, and he was a resident of Covington for the past 11 years. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during World War II. At his retirement, he was a claims manager for Gray & Company in Metairie. He was a member of WeDK Social Club of New Orleans, charter member of Lakeside Country Club of Metairie and Franco's Athletic Club in Mandeville where he was an avid tennis player. A retired automobile executive, he was born in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Herbert Lee and Aubrey Nowell Hollowell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran in World War II who served in the Asiatic Pacific at Saipan. After serving in the military he received his education in West Tennessee at Union University in Jackson and Memphis State University. In the mid 50's he joined Hull-Dobbs-Oakely Ford management group, holding different positions in Memphis, Atlanta and Knoxville. While in Knoxville he was manager and part owner of Hull Dobbs of Knoxville and Fountain City Ford. He was a member of Cedar Springs Church, Deanne Hill Country Club and Sertoma International. In 1970, he came to Metairie as vice president of Metairie Ford and Honda Motor Co. He was also owner/operator of West Bank Dodge. During his business career he earned many achievement awards for leadership in sales. After retiring to Covington, he became a member of Christ Episcopal Church serving as a greeter for the past 10 years. He continued to serve his community during his retirement as a volunteer at New Heights Therapy Center for handicapped children. Sharing endless stories and jokes with sharp wit and timing, he was more of an entertainer than a volunteer at Hadden Hall Senior Center and St. Tammany Parish Hospital until his recent illness. He led a very active life, and walked everday through the streets of old Covington. He leaves his devoted wife, Bettye Bonds Hollowell; two daughters, Donna Hollowell Dugas (husband, Earl James Dugas) and Dianne Hollowell Miskell (husband, James Donald Miskell); five grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Dugas, Aimee Dugas Plauche (husband, Michael Scott Plauche), Justin Michael Dugas, Scott Mitchell Miskell and Megan McLaughlin Miskell. She was born in Daggett, Mich., May 19, 1918. She was the daughter of Robert Fredrick Plutchak and Jessie Mathilda Deacon Plutchak. Anita was a graduate of Stambaugh High School, Stambaugh, Mich., and graduated from the E. Burnham Beauty School in Chicago. She then became a beauty operator in Chicago. She married Frank M. Kaim in Maywood, Ill., on Jan. 2, 1939. After Frank joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, Anita lived with her parents in Michigamme, Mich., during his war-time service. In 1945 her daughter, Cynthia Ann, was born in Marquette, Mich. At the end of World War II the family returned to Chicago where her second child Kenneth Richard was born in 1947. She became a night telephone operator and in 1956 the family moved to Erie, Pa. In 1960 the family moved to Cornell, Mich., and in 1962 they moved to Escanaba, Mich. In 1965 they moved to Pampa, Texas, and moved again in 1967 to Milwaukee, Wisc. Her daughter Cynthia married William Phillip Barker of Covington. Anita and Frank moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Frank worked for P&H International and they moved to Jamshedpur, India for three years. During the India-Pakistan War in 1971 they lived in Hong Kong. Cedar River, Mich., was their home base in the USA during their international assignments. They then moved to Arak, Iran leaving before the Shah's overthrow. During retirement Anita and Frank lived in Cedar River, Mich., Menominee, Mich., and Covington. Anita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Emogene Gibson Foy, Ilene Fredrickson, and Eva Kaim; and one son-in-law, William Barker. She is survived by two brothers, Robert Richard Plutchak and Norman Gerald Plutchak of Menominee; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Barker of Covington; Cynthia's sons, William (Billy) Phillip Barker II of Okinawa, Japan and Richard Trevor Barker of Seattle, Wash., Billy's wife Kumiko Kaneshima, their children William (Trey) Phillip Barker III and Katsuia Justin Barker. A native of Hammond, Ind., and resident of Slidell for the past 40 years, Ruth was a charter member of the Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Slidell. Ruth was the daughter of the late Robert Gerald Cool and Lydia Colvin Cool and sister of John R. Cool and wife Sally of Slidell and Shirley Cool Sampson and husband, Floyd of Roseville, Calif. She is also survived by four nephews, Robert Cool of La Place, Steven Sampson of Austin, Texas, Richard Sampson of Half Moon Bay, Calif., and Rod Sampson of Lake Wylie, S.C. Ruth's early years were in Illinois and Indiana where she loved sports, swimming, ice skating, roller skating, drama, art and even flying lessons. After graduating from Lowell High School in Lowell, Ind., she went on to college at North Park in Chicago and Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind. Later she graduated from St. Luke's Hospital in Chicago as an X-Ray technician and worked in that profession for several years. After her family moved to Utah, Ruth followed, lived at home and cared for her aging parents. After her father's death, she and her mother moved to Slidell where they shared a home for many years with Ruth caring for her mother in her last illness. Ruth was a resident of the Northshore Living Center for the past five years. Over the years, Ruth was interested in family history was pleased to become a member of the Captain John Oldham Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was a natural artist and had a special love for animals. He even owned a monkey when it was not common to even think of a monkey as a pet. His love for his family and sense of humor were his strongest attributes. He suffered for a long time with his battle with diabetes which eventually took his eyes and his kidneys and finally his life. He is now at peace with the Lord and his parents. (Dick) Apgar, maritime industry executive, former President of the Board of Trade and New Orleans civic leader, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Loved and highly respected by all who knew him, he honored life itself. A New Jersey native, he was an avid world traveler, devotee of history, and enthusiastic reader. He appreciated working and raising his family in New Orleans and later residing in Covington. Beloved husband of the late Leah Mae Jackson Apgar, Warren Apgar was the devoted father of Donna Apgar and Judith Apgar Webb and grandfather of David L. Webb and the late Michael J. Webb. He is also survived by two great- grandchildren, Jessica Webb Runyan and Christopher Webb. Warren Apgar graduated from Columbia University Business School. He was a Major in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Pentagon as Office Chief of Transportation in the OIC Operations Branch Water Division. Prior to the Pentagon, he served as Water Division Superintendent in Mobile, Alabama. His professional career revolved around the maritime industry. He worked for the Lykes Bros. Steamship Company and Parry Navigation Company in New York City before moving to New Orleans to assume his position as Executive Vice President of T. Smith & Son, Stevedoring/Terminal Operations and the Crescent Towing and Salvage Co. He was President of the Casey Corporation, Barge owners/operators and T. Smith and Son, Texas, ship Terminal Operations. He served as President and Director of Baton Rouge Marine Contractors and was an officer and director of various companies of the maritime industry including: Riise Shipping Co., Plimsoll Marine and Waterfront Contracting Company. He was an active member of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators and a lifetime Honorary Director of the New Orleans Board of Trade. Mr. Apgar was President and Director of the New Orleans Board of Trade from 1964-1965 and was instrumental in construction of the award winning Board of Trade Plaza. The family's favorite and funniest stories invariably include him, and they are retold time and again. Like his father, he could be counted on in rough times and was known to, do, pay or risk nearly anything to help out one of his own. He graduated with a BSEE from LSU in 1958 and an MAS from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1975. Employed for over 40 years in the electric utility industry, he retired from Cleco in 1998. He was a registered Professional Electrical Engineer in Louisiana and five other states. He was ordained as an Elder at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, AL in 1965 and repeatedly served on the Session of Covington Presbyterian Church. He also served on the Committee on Ministry for the Presbytery of South Louisiana for five years and acted as Commissioner to the General Assemblies of 1977 and 2002. In 2004 he was Lay Supply Pastor at the 3rd Presbyterian Church, New Orleans. A resident of Covington since 1937, he was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Guadalajara, Mexico, to the late Carlos Aceves and Aurelia Fernandez. The beloved husband of Elaine Therese de la Houssaye Aceves-Fernandez, he is survived by seven children, Rosanne A. Williams (David), Charles St. Martin, Jeanne A. Smith (Ronald), Mary Anne A. Lapeyre (Francis), David A. Aceves, M. Celeste Becker (Michael) and Elizabeth A. Tomlinson (John); seven grandchildren, Carlos N. Williams (Cheryl), Michael D. Williams (Julia), Nathaniel B. Smith, K. Adam Smith, Andrew D. Aceves, Anna E. and Alex J. Becker; and two great-grandchildren, Haley and Hanah Williams. He is also survived by five brothers, Alberto, Juan, Alfredo, Daniel, Enrique; and five sisters, Carmen, Maria Elena, Maria Luisa, Esperanza and Maria de los Angeles. He was preceded in death by three siblings. He was a class of 1945 graduate of Lyon High School in Covington, received a bachelor's degree from LSU, served his country from 1951-55 in the U.S. Air Force intelligence and received his master's degree from LSU in 1963. He served on the parish council at St. Peter Catholic Church, was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister and the recipient of the St. Louis Medal. He was a school board representative for St. Paul's, St. Scholastica and St. Peter's School and was a founding member of the Covington High School PTA. He was an active member of the City of Covington Planning and Zoning Board and was a founding member of the St. Tammany Art Association and Playmakers.
