BLAIR, STEVEN C., JR.

Steven C. Blair Jr., 26, passed away from injuries suffered in a motorcycle 
accident Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in New Orleans.

He was the beloved son of Ermilisa Figueroa Shipp and the late Steven C. Blair; 
grandson of Ermilee Figueroa and Helena Blair; great-grandson of Eloise P. 
Fisher; brother of Tomas Figueroa and Miguel Figueroa; and nephew of William 
Figueroa, Linda Figueroa, Bernard Blair, Evelyn Blair and Milan Blair. He is 
also survived by his loving companion Tina Lewis and numerous friends and 
relatives.

He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past year.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial service at 
2 p.m. Tuesday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery), Slidell. Visitation will be from noon until service time.

BOND, JAMES ANDREW

James Andrew Bond, 18, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009.

He is survived by his father, James Edward Bond; his mother, Ann Spiehler Bond; 
grandparents, Mary Spiehler and Alma Bond; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and 
cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Andrew C. Spiehler Jr., James F. 
Bond Jr. and Willie Mae Blacksher.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Williams Funeral Home, Pearl River with 
Sister Bessie Reynolds officiating. Interment was in Hickory Memorial Gardens, 
Pearl River.

BROWN, SHELBY OLIVIA

Shelby Olivia Brown passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at the age of 57 days.

She is survived by her parents, Victor Brown Jr. and Rachel Morley; 
grandparents, Richard Morley, Caroline Morley and Deborah Brown. She is also 
survived by her brother, Victor John Tate; and sister, Summer Raven Tate; as 
well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Victor Brown Sr.

Services were held yesterday at Williams Funeral Home, Pearl River and interment 
was in Crawford Cemetery, Pearl River.

Louis Robert Dendinger, resident of Hammond, passed away in the early morning 
hours of Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, in his home at 62.

Louis was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area. He was born in New 
Orleans on May 2, 1947, and grew up in the Ninth Ward until marrying and raising 
his family in the Covington area.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Fallon; two children, Jerry (Mallory) Dendinger 
of Lebanon, Ohio, and Jennifer (Trey) Patterson of Cummings, Ga.; and eight 
grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher, Alex, Jonathan, Rebecca, Emily, Adam and 
Evan. Louis is also survived by his wife's family - daughter, Caitlin; son, 
Cassady and his wife Heather and their son Sebastian. He also leaves behind 
innumerable friends and family.

Louis was the son of the late Louis and Octavia Dendinger also of New Orleans. 
Louis was a graduate of Nicholls High School and the University of New Orleans. 
He was a certified public accountant for 40 years serving clients all over the 
Northshore.

His life was full and active. Louis was athletic all his life from baseball as a 
youth to becoming a competitive weight lifter (Olympic Lifts) through the 70's. 
In the 80's, Louis became an avid runner competing in races all over the New 
Orleans area until the mid 90's when he had to limit his activity due to a knee 
replacement. Louis and friends annually ran in the Azalea Trail, Crescent City 
Classic and Turkey Day Run.

The last 10 years of his life, consisted of frequent travel to visit 
grandchildren. He also traveled internationally on mission trips with son Jerry 
to Spain and Kenya. Louis and Kay started a new life within the world of jazz 
music and dancing. Louis became an outstanding dancer and was admired by all who 
saw him.

The funeral service will be held at noon Friday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home on 
21st Ave. in Covington. The viewing will be from 10 a.m. until service time. In 
lieu of flowers, make donations to the New Orleans Musician Clinic at 1-877-907-
6999.

Nathan Hale Pulling Jr. passed away Nov. 27, 2009.

A native and life resident of Covington, he was born May 21, 1957. He was the 
beloved son of Nathan Hale Sr. and Helen Benefield Pulling. He is survived by 
two sisters, Janice P. Adams and Becky P. Gaconnet; two brothers, Jon "Buster" 
and David L. Pulling; and one son, A.J. Fritscher.

Funeral services were held yesterday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington. 
Interment was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Covington, 
16333 Highway 1085, Covington, LA 70433.

ROY, LINDA NIX

Linda Nix Roy, 49, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, in Slidell.

She was the beloved wife of Phillip Roy for the past 20 years; the loving mother 
of Victoria Jo Parker and Robert Anthony Roy, USAF; daughter of the late Carl 
and Orderlie Nix; and sister of Betty Nix. She is also survived by one 
grandchild, Ashley Roy.

She was a native of Bay Springs, Miss., and a resident of Slidell for the past 
two years. Linda was a former licensed geriatric nurse who worked with the 
elderly throughout Louisiana and also worked with disabled children.

A graveside service was held in Bay Springs. Arrangements by Honaker Funeral 
Home, Inc., Slidell.

Elaine Melancon Steimle passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at the age of 90.

She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard E. Steimle and loving mother of 
Ronald E. Steimle. She is also survived by four grandsons and one great-
grandson.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of the Northshore since 1968. She 
was a retired federal employee.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 11 a.m. today at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Ave., Covington. 
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in the 
Mandeville City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations 
to St. Joseph's Abbey in Covington.

THOMAS, REV. CONNIE MARIE

The Rev. Connie Marie Thomas, the sixth child of the Rev. Pearl T. Thomas and 
the late Newton C. Thomas Jr., departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.

She is survived by her children, Christopher and Demarco Follins; two sisters, 
Cherryle Temple (Albert) Yourng and Carolyn (Melvin) Marsalis; five brothers, 
the Rev. Gregory (Dedra), Richard (Joy), Kenneth (Janice), the Rev. Newton 
(Giselle) and Averriel (Cynthia) Thomas; sister-in-law Cherrilynne W. Thomas; 
three godchildren, Erin M. Temple, Paul N. Thomas and Anna M. Miller. She is 
also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and 
friends.

At the time of her death, Thomas was the pastor of Trinity and Union Chapel 
United Methodist Church in Bunkie.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rayne United Methodist Church, 
3900 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans. Visitation is from 9-10:30 a.m. The eulogy 
will be by the Rev. Lester A. Shaw Sr.

CASSADAY, CHRISTOPHER LEE

Christopher Lee Cassaday passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009. He was born Jan. 24, 
1991, in Galveston, Texas, and was a graduate of Covington High School, class of 
2009.

Chris was a member at Trinity Church in Covington and was a soccer player with 
both the Mandeville Soccer Club and the Covington High School soccer team. He is 
survived by his mother, Wendy Lynn Miller and one brother, Wesley D. Cassaday.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend memorial services at 7 
p.m. today at Trinity Church, 19380 North 10th St., Covington. Visitation at the 
church will begin at 6 p.m.

COUSIN, THERESA "TA-TAZ" DUMAS

Theresa "Ta-taz" Dumas Cousin, 84, was called to her rest Thursday, Nov. 26, 
2009. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Slidell and was the youngest of 11 children 
born to the late Albert Dumas and Albertine Morgan Dumas. She was joined in 
matrimony to the late Bernard M. Cousin, and together they had four children.

She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Shelvin (Max) of Lake Charles and 
Delron Garrett Butler (Anthony) of Slidell; nine grandchildren, 17 great-
grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss 
her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, five sisters and two 
dons, Donald and Clifford Lucien Cousin.

Theresa was a supervisor for Bosco's Motel for many years. She also worked as a 
C.N.A. until retirement. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, whose 
love and care far surpassed the borders of her family. She was a lifelong 
resident of Slidell. She left a legacy of love and charity towards humanity that 
has directly affected the lives of all those who had the pleasure of knowing 
her.

A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1050 
Robert Blvd., Slidell with the Rev. Jose Roel Lungay officiating. Visitation 
will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in Dubuisson Cemetery.

David DiNapolis, 47, of Lacombe, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, in Baton 
Rouge.

He was the son of Ellen and Albert DiNapolis. He is also survived by five 
brothers and two sisters, Pamela Osborne (husband, Jack), F.P. "Buddy" Buras 
(wife, Liz), Locke "Drew" Buras, Mary Ellen Conway (husband, James), Henry 
"Hank" DiNapolis, Stephen DiNapolis (wife, Lisa) and Michael DiNapolis (wife, 
Keeli); and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 1 
p.m. today at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn

ENGLAND, ELOISE WOOTEN

Eloise Wooten England went to Heaven peacefully Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, with 
family and friends at her bedside at the age of 87. 

Butch (as she was commonly known) was a resident of Hattiesburg, Miss., for most 
of her life. She worked as a legal secretary for Tomas Law Office until her 
retirement. The past three years she resided at Wynnwood Assisted Living in 
Mandeville, where she was lovingly cared for by all especially Ella, Kim, 
Beverly and Mike. She touched the hearts of everyone who knew her and lived life 
to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C.W. England Jr.; her mother, 
Ouida Griffin Wooten; her father, Sam Wooten; her sister, Sammie Dillard; and 
brother, Jack Wade Wooten.

She was the loving mother of Belinda England Cline and Marta England Bragg and 
their spouses; the proud grandmother of Nichole, Elizabeth, Brian, Nathan, Rose, 
Ruthie and Christie; great-grandmother of 10; and great-great- grandmother of 
one.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from 
10-11 a.m. followed by a memorial service today at University Baptist Church, 
3200 Arlington Loop, Hattiesburg, Miss.

Relatives and Friends are also invited to attend a celebration of life Monday at 
Wynnwood 1414 N. Causeway Blvd. Mandeville.

Kathleen Joyce Picou Flynn went to Heaven peacefully Monday, Nov. 30 2009, at 
8:55 a.m. in her home with her children at her bedside.

She began her life's journey Aug. 27, 1930, in Bayou Blue. Joyce (as she was 
commonly known) graduated from Charity School of Nursing in New Orleans in 1949 
at the young age of 18. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at 
Charity Hospital in New Orleans in the Diebert Clinic-TB ward and later became 
the director of nursing at St. Ann's Convalescent Home on Mehle Avenue in Arabi. 
She went on to earn her nursing home administrators license and managed Maison 
Hospitliere in the French Quarter for 17 years. Joyce was the most organized, 
efficient and caring RN/ administrator and was sorely missed when she retired. 
She also loved to travel with her husband, especially to Ireland.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 wonderful years, John "Jack" 
Michael Flynn Jr. (she was his heart); her mother Adele J. Buchanan Picou 
Basford White; her father Oliver Joseph Picou, Sr. and her little brother Oliver 
J. Picou, Jr.

She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Diana F. Breen, Kathy 
F. Fresko (and Emmanuel), Kevin Flynn (and Pam), Mary F. Campo (and Nick), 
Patricia F. Parr (and Nicky), Brian Flynn (and Logan) and Michael Flynn (and 
Cathy); 16 grandchildren and their spouses, Bonnie, Bill (and Chantal), Anthony 
(and Shannon), Kelly, Nicky, Adam, Bridget (and Jeff), Patrick, Sean, Ryan, 
Devin, Mallory, Brendan, Brady, Bailey and Evan; six great-grandchildren, 
Gabriele, Sasha, Therese, Mary Francis, Benjamin and Avery. She is also survived 
by Moxie her beloved chihuahua.

Mama Joycie may God hold you in the palm of His hand until we meet again. We 
love you always.

Services were held yesterday at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Covington. 
Interment was next to her husband in the Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery near Terra 
Mariae. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to STARC, 1541 St. Ann Place, 
Slidell, LA 70460, and the Covington Food Bank, 840 Columbia St., Covington, LA.

Sylvia Patrick Hall, 84, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009. She was a 
native of Floyd County, Ky., a longtime resident of Chalmette and a resident of 
Lacombe for the past seven years.

She was the beloved wife of the late Bert W. Hall; mother of Danny B. Hall 
(wife, Debbie), Brenda H. Merz (husband, George), Kathy H. Brazo (husband, 
Carlos) and the late Glenn F. Crow. She is also survived by nine grandchildren 
and three great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral at 11 a.m.

Delores Hyatt Helton passed from this life 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at 
the age of 67.

She was the beloved wife of Robert Helton Sr.; beloved mother of Christy 
Cothran, Betty Ann Helton, Shelly Helton and Robert Helton Jr.; and loving 
sister of Mary Windom and Freddie May Corley. She was the grandmother of Paul 
Schroeder, Bryanne Cothran, T. J. Ballero, Rebekah Ballero, William Helton, 
Bryce Helton and Danyelle Chaisson; and great-grandmother to Izabella Haugh.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Relatives, friends and members of the Collins Boulevard Baptist Church are 
invited to attend the Christian services at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Serenity 
Funeral Home, 20419 Highway 36, Covington. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until

HICKMAN, LYLE F.

Lyle F. Hickman, 97, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Slidell 
Memorial Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Hester Smith Hickman for the past 76 years; father 
of Ethel Hickman Talley and husband Troy of Slidell, Ellen Hickman Sonnier and 
husband Allen of Bueche and the late Huey W. Hickman; and brother of Charlie 
Hickman and Gilbert Hickman. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-
grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He 
was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 76 years.

Mr. Hickman was a retired master mechanic with Brown and Root Construction and 
in his younger days was a former Slidell volunteer fireman. Along with his wife, 
he was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Slidell.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn

Alice "Gene" Lacroix, 70, passed away Monday, Nov. 30, 2009.

She was the beloved mother of Melinda (Greg) Crane, Morie (Robert) Punch and the 
late Rene Revere and Stephanie Revere; daughter of the late Hezzie and Mavis 
Stevens; grandmother of Stephanie Crane, Seth (Chelsea) Crane, Brittany Punch 
and Lindsey (Josh) Mizell; great-grandmother of Chase Crane; and sister of 
Clarence (Beatrice) Stevens, Carol Stevens, Berl (Cathy) Stevens and Glen (Judy) 
Stevens. She is also survived by Morris Lacroix.

She was the stepmother of Eddie Lacroix, Timmy Lacroix and the late Mike 
Lacroix.

She was a faithful lifetime member and choir director at Savannah Branch Church 
of God and a native and a lifelong resident of Folsom.

Funeral services were held yesterday at the Savannah Branch Church of God, 
Folsom. Interment was in Willie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would 
prefer donations to Savannah Branch Church of God in her memory.

Margaret Ann Fields Neely passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at the age of 59.

She was the devoted wife of Mick Neely and mother of Deltrick L. Neely. Anne was 
a devoted wife and mother, and a steadfast member of the Starlight Missionary 
Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at noon tomorrow at the Starlight Missionary Baptist 
Church, 2100 Second St., Slidell. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service 
time.

Interment will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, 2733, Eddie Williams Ave., 
Alexandria.

Virginia "Jenny" Miller Parker, 81, passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Gulf 
States LTAC in Slidell.

She was the devoted wife of the late Alfred Parker; loving mother of six 
daughters, Rozela (Sam), Joyce (Earnest), Lois, Sandra (Rudy), Phyllis (Freddie, 
deceased) and Melva (David). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and six 
great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Providence Baptist Church, 34038 
Elk's Road, Slidell. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time. 
Interment will follow in Pineview Memorial Park Cemetery on Carroll Road in

Jude Joseph Scallan passed away on December 4, 2009

He was born the beloved son of Linda C. Terrio and John J. Scallan in Metairie, 
LA on January 1, 1984 and has been a resident of Covington since 1990. He is 
also the stepson of Melissa Belou Scallan. He is the beloved grandson of Lois L. 
Terrio, the late Edward L. Terrio, Maridel S. Scallan, and the late Albert J. 
Scallan. Jude is survived by one sister, Tiffany Scallan Ostendorf and her 
husband Lance C. Ostendorf; his adored niece, Layna C. Ostendorf; his half-
sister, Rachel E. Scallan; two half-brothers, Jordan C. and Connor J. Scallan; 
and his God-mother, Lori D. Dunn. He was preceded in death by his God-father, 
David P. Terrio.

Mary Dee Latter lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, December 5, 
2009 at the age of 58.

Mary was the daughter of Sue and Tony Rose and the late Shepard M. Latter. She 
was survived by her children Laura Goliwas Kuhlke (Christopher), Andrew Alvin 
Goliwas, and Diana Gail Stanley; her beloved Thomas Torval Nash and sisters 
Patricia L. Barnett (Lester) and Katherine L. Buckman (Richard). Mary also 
leaves behind her precious grandchildren Ella Latter Kuhlke and Henry Shepard 
Kuhlke. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of loving 
friends.

Her caring and magnetic personality endeared her to all who knew her.

A native of New Orleans, Mary has lived on the Northshore for the past 30 years. 
Mary was a founding member of the Northshore Jewish Congregation and was one of 
the original members of the DIVAS. Mary loved the Saints and a good party.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service at 
the Northshore Jewish Congregation, 1403 North Causeway Blvd., Mandeville, LA, 
on Tuesday, December 8th at 12:00 noon. Visitation at 11:00am.

Wallace Milton Chaplain Sr., 86, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2009.  

He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine Estelle "Gerry" Chaplain; 
father of Diane Ferguson, Wallace Chaplain Jr., Janet Chaplain-Leonard and Karen 
Chaplain; grandfather of Alison Crane, Brandie Chaplain, Samantha Chaplain and 
Brandon Chaplain; brother of Melvin Chaplain; and the late Lester Chaplain, 
Charles Chaplain and Henry Thompson. 

He was a decorated veteran of World War II, an active member of AAL and later 
Thrivent for Lutherans and an active bowler until the age of 82. He was a member 
of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington.

He was a native of New Orleans, a longtime resident of Covington, and a resident 
of the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Reserve for the past year.

Funeral services were held yesterday from Christ The King Lutheran Church, 
Kenner. Entombment was in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the 
family would prefer donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 2605 River Rd., 
New Orleans, LA, 70121.

DASHIELL, PAM

Pam Dashiell passed away suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, in New Orleans. She is 
survived by her beloved daughter, Alisa Leslie Dashiell-Sanchez (Roland Jr.) and 
her cherished granddaughter Rianne Caelynn Sanchez.

She was known as passionate activist in the Ninth Ward after Hurricane Katrina. 
Actor, Brad Pitt, who works to help rebuild the Ninth Ward called Pam, "a 
guiding force in the rebuilding effort, and she has become a dear friend."

Funeral services were held yesterday at the All Souls Episcopal Church in New 
Orleans. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lower Ninth Ward 
Center for Sustainable Engagement and Development, 5130 Chartres St., New 
Orleans, LA 70117, are appreciated. Rhodes Funeral Home in charge of

Ruth Strain Dubuisson, 67, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at 
Kindred Hospital In New Orleans. She was the beloved wife of Paul J. Dubuisson 
for the past 53 years; mother of Diana Dubuisson Morgan and Karen Janine 
Dubuisson and spouse Fred Epperson; daughter of Rebecca Garrett Strain and the 
late Lloyd J. Strain, Sr.; sister of Lloyd J. Strain Jr. and wife Marguerite; 
sister-in-law of Blanche Roques and Betty Brown and husband Richard and niece of 
Catherine Walker. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Liz), 
Matthew (Tiffany), Mitchell and Margaret Morgan and Joel Epperson; two great-
grandchildren, Trinity and Alexis Morgan; her dear friend Hilda Stripling and 
also other relatives and friends of the Slidell area.

She was a lifelong resident of Slidell. Mrs. Dubuisson was a former employee of 
Cusimano's Drug Store in Slidell and was a former Civil Deputy with the St. 
Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office. In her younger years, Mrs. Dubuisson was a 
volunteer with 4-H and Girl Scouts. Mrs. Dubuisson was a member of the First 
United Methodist Church in Slidell.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a graveside service at 
1 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery (In Olde Towne Slidell). In case of 
inclement weather, the family will be gathering at the First United Methodist

Sherwood Mitchell Dykes passed away Thursday Dec. 3, 2009, at the age of 61. 
Sherwood was a native of Wilmer and a resident of Folsom.

He is survived by his wife Linda Crowe Dykes; his daughter and son-in-law Jenny 
Lee and Keith Lee of Spring Creek; his mother Lois Strickland Dykes of Amite, 
his brother and sister-in-law Glenis and Pat Dykes of Wilmer, his stepson John 
Farias of Folsom, his grandchildren Kacy Farias of Bogalusa and Meggian Farias 
of Pine. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in 
death by his father Leo Dykes and his brothers Jerry Dykes, Jimmy Dykes and 
Wayne Dykes.

A funeral service was held yesterday at Wilmer Missionary Baptist Church, Amite.

Leo Pierre Laurent passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at the age of 81.

He was the beloved husband of Marie Besson Laurent; loving father of Cynthia 
Laurent Dupree, Debra Laurent Peterson and Linda Romano Lee; son of the late 
Anna Marie Kaupp Laurent and Robert J. Laurent; brother of Bob Laurent and the 
late Melvin Laurent, Irwin Laurent, Noella L. Turcotte, Verna Laurent and Lloyd 
Laurent. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 
noon Tuesday at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach,

Roberta Sighinolfi Lightfoot, 82, passed away at Slidell Memorial Hospital 
Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, after complications following treatment for lymphocytic 
leukemia.

She was the loving wife of L. George Lightfoot for the past 64 years. She is 
also survived by her three sons, Richard G. (wife Joanne), Larry R. (wife 
Carlye) and Roger L. (wife Janet) Lightfoot. She is also survived by seven 
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, loving niece, Linda R. Hosch and many 
devoted friends and neighbors.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Sighinolfi and Domenica 
(Mamie) Chisesi Sighinolfi, and her sister, Fulvia S. Rose. She was a native of 
New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for 30 years. She was a lifelong member of 
Trinity United Church of Christ.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a memorial service and 
celebration of Roberta's life at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Aldersgate United Methodist 
Church, 360 Robert Blvd., Slidell.

Joseph A. Marchand, Sr., 77, formerly of Picayune, Miss., passed away Thursday, 
Dec. 3, 2009, at his home. 

He is survived by his five children, Joseph Marchand, Jr. of Poplarville, Miss., 
Michael Marchand of Pearl River, Richard Marchand of Mandeville, Deborah 
Marchand of Slidell, and David Marchand of Carriere, Miss.; one brother, John 
Pierce Marchand of Natalbany; two sisters, Rosemary Allen of Slidell and Joan 
Marchand of Slidell; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great-
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Renelda Marchand; five 
brothers, Charles Jr., Roy, Ralph, Raymond and Harold; two sisters, Margaret 
Mary and Mary Louise; and one grandson, Jacob of St. Petersburg, Fla.

He worked as an inventory clerk at Kaiser Aluminum, was a volunteer fireman in 
Slidell, for 32 years and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He 
served in the St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 1 as the Commissioner of 
the City of Slidell from November 1977 to February 1981 and he was the Chairman 
from May 1981 to August 1983.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic 
Church, with Father Mike Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in New Palestine 
Cemetery, under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 
Picayune Funeral Home on Sunday, December 6th from 6-9 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.

Allen Charles Mendel passed away Dec. 3, 2009. 

He was born Sept. 24, 1940, to the late Lawrence George and Albertine Louise 
Doerr Mendel and was a life resident of Abita Springs. He was the beloved 
husband of Levita Carpenter Mendel. He is survived by four children, Paul Mendel 
(Julie), Leanne Berard (Joseph), Aaron Mendel (Penny) and Natasha Fisher 
(Robert); one brother, Larry Mendel and nine grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Karon Bigner Mendel and his sister, 
Marjorie Reed.

Mr. Mendel retired as a welding inspector from McDermott International after 
over 30 years of service and was a Master Mason with the Covington Lodge.

Masonic and religious funeral services were held yesterday at E.J. Fielding

Alexandra and Yovanny; and sister of Loyd O. Wagner Jr. She was preceded in 
death by her mother, Josephine Mischler Wagner; and her father, Loyd Osby Wagner 
Sr. She was a native New Orleanian, having lived most of her life in St. Bernard 
Parish.

U.S. Veteran Thomas Durward Stockwell, Jr., age 90, died on Monday, December 7, 
2009 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Covington, LA.

A native of Baton Rouge, LA, Lt. Col. Stockwell lived in Mandeville for the past 
34 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Reeves Stockwell, parents, Myrtle 
Garatie and Thomas D. Stockwell, Sr. and one sister, Patricia. 

He is survived by his daughter Becky Rutkowski of Hackettstown, NJ, son Mark 
Stockwell of Mandeville, LA. and granddaughter, Amy Cooke of Chatham, NJ.

In 1941 he enlisted in the US Navy and upon completion of flight training, 
became a US Marine Corps fighter pilot. During WWII he served in combat in the 
South Pacific and in California as a combat instructor. During the Korean War he 
switched to infantry and after 24 years of service, retired from the Marine Corp 
as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1964. After his retirement from the Marine Corps, he 
returned to Baton Rouge and worked for Microtech as the plant manager. Later he 
was employed by Gulf South Research Institute as a field researcher. During that 
time he completed his degree at LSU that was interrupted by his service in the 
Marine Corps. Upon moving to Mandeville in 1975, he started a boat documentation 
service. A lifelong boating enthusiast, he had been a member of the Ponchartrain 
Yatch Club since 1976. He was also a long time member of the Marine Corps 
Association and the Military Officers Association of America.

at Mandeville Mausoleum on Montgomery St. between Jackson Ave. and Foy St. at 
10:30 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2009.

Zenna Allen James of Slidell, Sarah Jarvis Patterson of Purvis, Miss., Mary 
Jarvis Holt (Lonnie) of Picayune, Miss., and Iris Jarvis McGee (Josephy) of 
Kentwood; three sisters, Myrtle Cryer Crawford of Colorado Springs, Colo., Ruby 
Cryer Sanders of St. Paul, Minn., and Helen Cryer Augusta of New Orleans; 26 
grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, eight great-grreat-grandchildren and a 
host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her family and friends will miss 
her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her four brothers, James Eugene Cryer Sr., Joseph 
Earl Cryer, Vernon Anthony Cryer Sr. and Albert Henry Green Jr.; and one son,

Odette was a native of New Orleans and resident of Covington. She was the

Perry Duane Cederholm, 89, of Slidell, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his 
home in Slidell.

He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie Murray Cederholm for 58 years; 
father of Terry D. Cederholm and wife Karen of Slidell and Lanny G. Cederholm 
and wife Dodi of Slidell; son of the late Perry H. Cederholm and Freda Meek 
Cederholm; brotherof Jon Cederholm and wife Colleen of Northport, Fla., Larry 
Cederholm of Phoenix and the late Maxine Gillcrist, Victor Cederholm, Paul 
Cederholm and Darrel Cederholm. He is also survived by three grandchildren, 
Shannon, Azure and T.C. Cederholm; one great-grandchild, Meghan Cederholm; and 
many nieces and nephews.

He was a native of Ruthven, Iowa, and a resident of St. Tammany Parish for the 
past 35 years. Cederholm served his country with the U.S. Army Rangers during 
World War II and was a former chief of police for the Storm Lake Police 
Department in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was a man whose life evolved solely around 
his family and was truly a great grandpa.

A graveside service was held privately in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.

Carol LeGros Murphy passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2009. She was born Jan. 12, 
1943 to the late Percy Lee and Gloria Ann Dunn LeGros. 

She was a long time resident of Lake Charles before moving to St. Tammany parish 
in 1992. 

She is the beloved mother of three children, Roger LeGros (Gail) of Los Angeles, 
Michelle L. Gueldner (David) of Ponchatoula and Dreux LeGros (Vicki) of Dallas; 
two grandchildren, Zachary Schuler and Emma LeGros and three sisters, Gloria 
Cannon, Linda Anderson and Janice LeGros. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Steve LeGros.

To celebrate the memory of Carol's life, a private gathering of family and close 
friends will be held at a later date.

The Rev. Lewis L. "Jake" Olmsted (Ret.) passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at 71 
in Jefferson.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon; sons, Daniel (wife, Karen) of 
Mandeville and Donald of St. Louis; granddaughters, Shari and Cassie; and 
sisters, Grace Akins of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Patti Miller of Elk Grove, Ill. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Ruth (Strang) and brother, 
Fred.

Jake was born April 13, 1938, in Ottawa, Ill. After retiring from the U.S. Air 
Force in 1975, Jake earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southeastern 
Louisiana University. He then received a master of divinity from Garret 
Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. In 2001, Jake entered into a 
retired relationship as an elder with the Louisiana Annual Conference of the 
United Methodist Church. Upon retiring, he was active in the Kairos Prison 
Ministry. Of his two careers, Jake said the satisfaction of the first was that 
of serving his country, the rewards of the second are out of this world.

SHARP, TIMOTHY STEVEN II

Timothy Steven Sharp II, 21, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009. He was a 
lifelong resident of Madisonville.

He was the beloved son of Timothy S. Sharp and Catherine Cooper Sharp; brother 
of Crystal Sharp Eskew and Kasi R. Sharp; uncle of Catherine Jernigan; brother-
in-law of Calvin Eskew and Kevin Schexnaydre; grandson of Mary W. Cooper, Calvin 
R. Sharp and the late B.L. Cooper and Dorothy Lee Sharp.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, Covington.

Dr. William Carter Terral, 84, practicing physician for 60 years, departed this 
earth and entered into his heavenly home Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at 8 p.m.

Upon graduating from medical school and then completing training in family 
medicine, he opened his practice (the only doctor in town) in Farmerville, the 
place of his birth.

There was no hospital there within 35 miles, so he soon established his own 12-
bed hospital where he met his patients medical and surgical needs.

Dr. Terral joined the U.S. Army Medical Corp and served two years in France. 
Upon completion of his tour of duty, he began his pediatric residency at LSU 
Charity Hospital. He and his family remained in New Orleans where he practiced 
pediatrics until 1991, at which time he joined his son, Dr. William L. Terral in 
his practice in Covington. Dr. Terral's collective medical files encompass four 
generations of patients.

Having an insatiable appetite for knowledge, made him an avid reader. His 
extraordinarily retentive mind preserved for him an encyclopedia storehouse of 
knowledge. One of his greatest joys was sharing his plethora of information with 
anyone who would sit down and listen. Choose the subject! He could teach/preach 
on politics, the economy, history, the wars (all of them), etc. etc.

Next to having a good listener, he was never happier than when working in his 
garden. His hibiscus plants (his favorite) were spectacular. Although steeped in 
all the traditional "tried and true" methods of gardening, he was also known to 
implement some innovative and not so conventional methods of his own. Having 
collected a few bags of discarded plasma, he hung them high above his prized 
hibiscus plants and administered this life-enhancing potion into the soil. 
Observation: blooms were larger than ever.

He is survived by his wife Doris Foto, whom he married in 1995; and his sons, 
Dr. William L. Terral, Mark Scott Terral, David "Brett" Terral (wife, Lizette 
Monelzon Terral) and Dr. Thomas Gregory Terral (wife, Lori Blakely Terral). He 
is also survived by the mother of his children and wife of 47 years, Lylen 
"Mitty" Terral.

Their daughter Jann Terral Ferris preceded her father in death June 23, 2009. 
Jann's husband Gray Flowers Ferris preceded them both in death June 13, 2008.

As his children enriched his life immeasurably, so did his grandchildren. They 
are, Dr. Lylen Ferris Swiericzuk (husband, Michael Swiericzuk), the Rev. Jason 
Ferris (wife, Rebecca Marshall Ferris), Thomas Terral, Grayson Terral, Annie 
Terral, Lauren Terral, Megan Terral, David Terral, Carter Terral, Blakely 
Terral, Hayden Terral and Elise Terral. His great-grandchildren are, Nathan 
Swericzuk and Ruby Swericzuk.

Two granddaughters preceded him in death, Katherine Terral in 1995; and Shelby 
Ferris in 1999. Mignon Terral Pratt of Ruston is Dr. Terral's one remaining 
sibling. Dr. Terral's mother was Rosa Cherry Terral, his father Thomas Fontain 
Terral. His deceased siblings are: Dorothy Terral Rabb, Dr. Forrest Terral, 
Rannie Terral, Edna Terral Lawhon and John Terral.

Dr. Terral will be sadly missed by the myriad of friends, patients, colleagues, 
fellow workers and family, whose hearts he touched in such a profound way.

The family especially would like to mention two nurses, whose devotion was 
legendary, Bertha Baptiste and Linda Gainey.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service 
at 11 a.m. Dec. 19 at First Baptist Church, 16333 Louisiana Higway 1085, 
Covington, followed by a fellowship gathering. Memorial donations may be made to 
a charity of your choice.

Ruffin Toney Jr., 62, a native of Covington, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009.

He is survived by his daughters, Jerri Toney and Hilda Toney, both of Wichita, 
Wis.; son, Ruffin Toney III of Wichita; sisters, Jessie M. Johnson of 
Independence, Patricia Mabry and Sherry Harper, both of Hammond, and Odele Toney 
of Covington; brothers, Tyrone, Joseph and Perry Toney, all of Covington. He is 
also survived by five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ruffin Toney Sr.; and brother, Freddie 
Toney.

A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home of St. 
Tammany, 20207 Louisiana Highway 36, Covington, with the Rev. Austin Clark 
officiating.

Sarah Kelly Vince, 78, of Pearl River, passed away Sunday, Dec, 6, 2009, at the 
Guest House of Slidell.

She was the beloved wife of the late Joe Vince; loving mother of Kelly Joe Vince 
and wife Stacy L. Vince of Pearl River; daughter of the late Everette J. Kelly 
and Ira Tisdale Kelly; sister of the late E.J. Kelly, Hubert Kelly, D.L. Kelly 
and Mildred Thompson. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Everette 
Richard Vince, Mary Elizabeth Vince and Sarah Michelle Daspit.

She was a native of Seminary, Miss., and has been a resident of Pearl River for 
the past 26 years.

U.S. Veteran Malcolm G. Bennett passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2009 at 
the age of 86.

Beloved Husband of 62 years to Rae Longshore Bennett. Loving father of Malcolm 
R. Bennett, Brian M. Bennett and Christian A. Bennett. Father-in-law of Arleen, 
Georgiana and Robin Bennett. Son of the late Bertha DeVyrst Bennett and William 
A. Bennett. Grandfather of Melissa Rae, Alex, Megan, Madison and Kelsey Bennett. 
Also survived by one sister, Ruth Duracher.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, former treasurer of William F. Surgi 
Equipment Company and Acadian Millwork. He was a member and past president of 
the New Orleans Credit Men Association. He was a native of New Orleans and a 
resident of the Northshore for the past 23 years. He graduated from St. Aloysius 
High School and Tulane University.

U.S. Veteran Lt. Col. Retired John F. Dechon passed away on Thursday, December 
10, 2009 at the age of 84.

Beloved husband of Beverly Thomson Dechon. Father of Stephen Myers (wife, 
Sherryl), Robert Myers, Mary Beth Burke and the late Mark Dechon. Grandfather of 
Amy Lynne Weaver. Son of the late Anna Ziburis Dechon and John Dechon.

He was a native of Connecticut and was raised in New York City where he enlisted 
with the U.S. Army in 1943 and retired in 1967 after serving in WW II, Korea and 
Viet Nam. He received many decorations in the military including the Bronze Star 
with Valor. After retiring from the military, he worked and retired from Shell 
Oil.

At his request, all services were private.

Clinton Leo Stoneham, 67, passed away at his home in Mandeville, LA on December 
10, 2009. 

He leaves behind his wife, Sandy, and his sons, Scott (wife, Joy) of Baton Rouge 
and Brock of New Orleans. He is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Hilda 
Stoneham, and sister, Patricia Nemeth. Also survived by brothers, Charles (wife, 
Darlene) of Eatontown, NJ and Thomas (wife, Jan) of Long Branch, NJ, and 
sisters-in-law, Marcia Ogren (husband, Bob) and Beverly Ruth of Kansas City, MO, 
along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends throughout the U. S. and 
Europe.

Clint was born and raised in New Jersey and started his flying career in Texas, 
which eventually brought him to New Orleans, where he lived in Mandeville for 
over 18 years. He was an avid fan of the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints, 
but Clint's two biggest passions in life were his family and his love of being a 
pilot. He was always grateful to do what he loved during a thirty-year career 
spanning from his training in the U.S. Air Force to a professional career in 
commercial and corporate aviation, making life-long friends along the way.

A memorial celebration will take place Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 2-4:00 
PM at his home, 261 Evangeline Dr., Mandeville, LA 70471.

Myrna Goldate Cooper passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at 1:12 p.m. in the 
afternoon surrounded by her family.

Myrna was the beloved wife of 57 years to Philip Robert "Bob" Cooper of 
Covington.

Myrna Anne Goldate was born in Madisonville, Louisiana on August 9, 1934 to 
Oscar Peter Goldate and Georgie Gentlucci Goldate. She was the sister of Avis 
Goldate Bourgeois of Madisonville and the late Claude "Jim" Goldate, Oscar "Bud" 
Goldate, Kenneth Goldate, Lyle Goldate, George Goldate, Elsie Goldate Ostendorf 
and Bernard T. Goldate.

She is survived by her children Robert W. Cooper, daughter-in-law Dorothy 
Cooper, Jeffrey R. Cooper, Lesley Cooper Beyl, son-in-law John R. Beyl, Jeanne 
Cooper Frost, son-in-law Robert M. Frost and Kenneth A. Cooper, daughter-in-law 
Priscilla Riley Cooper.

She was a loving grandmother to Sage C. Accordo, Rye Cooper, Graham Cooper, 
Michael Cooper, Lindsey Cooper, Emily Cooper, Joshua Cooper, Sarah Cooper, 
Camille C. Lawson, Amanda B. Powell, Lauren B. Lachney, Jacob Frost, Elise Frost 
and Caleb Frost, Kace Cooper, Kyle Cooper, Kody Cooper and Beth Cooper.

She was also blessed with 14 great grandchildren.

Myrna retired after 28 years with St. Peter School where she was loved and 
respected. She touched so many lives with a gentleness that will not be 
forgotten.

Visitation will be at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, 
December 14, 2009. A

Mass will follow at 12:00 Noon with Christian burial at St. Joseph Abbey, St. 
Benedict, Louisiana.

She was a native of Golden Meadow, a resident of Lafayette and a former long

Ronald "Ronnie" Clark Lightell Sr., 68, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009.

He was the beloved husband of Leah Risbourg Lightell; father of Ronald Joseph 
Lightell (Stacie), Rhonda Brown, Jackie Sanderford and the late Ronald C. 
Lightell Jr.; stepfather of Donna Marie Ballon (Terry); son of Cecil Lejuene 
Lightell and Douglas Lightell; and the brother of Ada Smith, Joan Evans, the 
late Joseph D., Harold, Raymond Lightell and Betty Hingle. He is also survived 
by 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a native of New Orleans and long time resident of Slidell. He served in 
the U.S. Marine Corps and was a lance corporal.

He retired from the N.O. Police Department Special Operations Division in 1982, 
and then retired from the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office in 2002. He was 
currently a deputy marshal with the city of Slidell.

Relatives and friends of the family, also employees of Whitney National Bank, 
are invited to attend the funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. 
Genevieve's Catholic Church, 58189 Louisiana Highway 433, Slidell. Visitation

Louise Jessie Luther, 89, of Slidell passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009.

She was a member of the Pearl Acres Baptist Church. She served in the U.S. Air 
Force and retired from the U.S. Navy.

She is survived by one son, Patrick Luther; daughter, Penny Gabriel; five 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles and John 
Crieth; and sister, Peggy VanRiper.

MURRAY, ARLENE 

Arlene Lois Swanson Murray, 77, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. 
She passed peacefully from this earth after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.

She was born Arlene Lois Swanson in 1932 in Floodwood, Minn. She graduated 
junior college in Kansas City, married John Murray, lived in Alaska and Kansas 
City and had three children before moving to Louisiana in 1964. She was employed 
in mobile home sales and loved the flea markets and garage sales.

Arlene volunteered with STARC and supported the LASPCA, National Humane Society. 
She was active in garden clubs and even attended Delgado later in life for 
instruction in oil painting and flower arranging.

She is survived by her sister Shirley Pemberton of Shawnee Kan.; three children, 
Jackie McManus of Praireville, Ross Murray of Slidell and Mike Murray of Denton, 
Texas; nine grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. She was preceded in 
death by her beloved, Johnny Murray, and her parents, Henry and Mae Swanson.

There will be an open house at her home all day Saturday. As per her

Althea Eble Perrone, 84, of Hammond, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in North Oaks 
Medical Center. She was born Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1925, in New Orleans.

She was a loving mother and dedicated to her husband and family, a devoted 
Catholic and a member at Holy Ghost Catholic Church for over 60 years. She loved 
being a member of the Rosary Altar Society.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Joseph N. Perrone Sr.; two daughters, 
Bonnie Perrone Moss and Donna Perrone Blossman; three sons, Joseph N. Perrone 
Jr., Bernard Eble Perrone Sr. and Gerard Michael Perrone; 12 grandchildren, 
Joseph N. Perrone III, Jeffrey Michael Perrone, Heidi Perrone Veverica, Heather 
Perrone Fites, Bernard Eble Perrone II, Becki Perrone Laurie, Justin Matthew 
Perrone, Everette Alonzo Moss Jr., Yvette Moss Gardizi, Lauren Adele Blossman, 
Amber Royanne Blossman, and Isabel Collins; 12 great-grandchildren and brother, 
Robert G. Eble.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henrietta Cronan and Bernard Eble; and 
six brothers and sisters, Bernard E. Eble Jr., John Cronan Eble, Adele 
Schwegmann Ledet, Charles L. Eble, Rita Eble Ernst and Marietta Eble.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in 
Hammond. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the Mass. Interment will follow in 
the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery in Hammond.

11, 2009.

Beloved father of Sharon Lemons Palliser, Louis "L.C." Stire, Jr., Robert 
Michael Lemons, Kathy Lemons Sharp, Patty Lemons Rahmel and Kayron Stire 
Satterlee; He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevieve Lemons Stire; his second 
wife, Althea Hewson Lemons Stire; his mother, Loretta Escaig Stire; his father, 
Louis Walter Stire; a brother, Fenwick W. Stire; and an infant sister.

Age 91 years, he was a native of New Orleans, LA, a former resident of Abita 
Springs, LA and a current resident of Covington, LA for the past 50 years. He 
served his country with honors in the United States Army Air Corp during World 
War II, receiving the Bronze Star. He was a salesman with Smith Cheverolet and a 
Consignee with Mobil Oil Company. He was a charter member of VFW Post 8720 in 
Abita Springs.

at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

Carlos C. Magee passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009, following a long 
illness. He died at the age of 54. 

Carlos was a resident of Moselle, MS and had also served in the United States 
Navy. Carlos had many titles and in all he will be missed, he was a son, a 
brother, a father, an uncle and a great friend.

John Gilbert Anthon, 81, of Pearl River, passed away Sunday Dec. 6, 2009.

He is survived by daughter, Jonette Miller; son, Ronald Anthon; three brothers, 
Merlin, George and Paul Anthon; one sister, Eliska Fauntleroy; two 
grandchildren, Jason Miller and Courtney Tune; and seven great-grandchildren,

He was a water well contractor, a member of the American Veterans Association 
and the Happy Woods Church of God in Hammond.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Happy Woods Church of 
God, 42418 S. Range Road. Interment will follow in the Carter Cemetery, 
Ponchatoula.

in Covington, LA.

He owned his own actuarial business in MN until he retired in 1981 and moved to 
LA in 2001. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, & fishing. His pride and joy were 
his family and friendships.

Beloved husband of Darlene. Loving father of Kevin (Terry) Barke, Robin (Floyd) 
Hicks, Layne (David) Steingas, Shawn (Tom) St. Aubin, & Regan (Mark) Allen. Also 
survived by 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death

HATHORNE, ROBERT DUANE

Robert Duane Hathorne, 56, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at Lakeview 
Regional Medical Center in Covington. A Bogalusa native and a resident of Sun, 
he was a cross-country truck driver for 38 years and served in the Army National 
Guard for six years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sun, a loving 
husband, devoted father and a dear friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Russell Hathorne of Sun; daughter, Mechelle 
(Matt) Byrd of Springfield, Va.; brother, Jody (Gina) Penton of Sun; stepson, 
Jeffery Tisdale; and stepdaughter, Jenny Tisdale, both of Sun; four 
grandchildren, Olivia Byrd, Jordan and Jaiden Tisdale and Justice Ramser; two 
aunts, Frances Mitchell and Willyene Branch; and special children, Alyson Ramser 
and Christina Carter.

He was preceded in death by his father, William "Bill" Hathorne; his mother, 
Carolyn Penton; stepfather, Gayle Penton; and brother, Bruce Penton.

The funeral service was held Tuesday with Rev. Stanley Salassi officiating. 
Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Emily Erin Howell, 13, of Slidell, passed away Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at her 
home in Slidell.

She was the beloved daughter of Ronnie L. Howell Jr. and Rhonda T. Howell; 
sister of Alexis Howell, Ashton Howell; half brother Adrian Bruce; granddaughter 
of Donna Howell, the late Ronnie Howell Sr., Pamela Casanova, David Casanova and 
the late James Tamborella; niece of Holly Tamborella, Igel Casanova, James 
Tamborella Jr., James Howell, Alicia Dennis, Dena Lein and Joshua Howell. She is 
also survived by many cousins, great aunts and uncles and many friends.

Emily was an eighth-grade student at Slidell Junior High School. While attending 
Slidell Junior High, Emily was involved with many different organizations and 
clubs throughout the school. Emily was a wonderful daughter, sister and friend 
who was loved by all. She will be sadly missed.

Forest McCall "FM" Pearce Jr., 79, of Slidell, passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 
2009, at his home in Slidell.

He was the beloved husband of Mildred D. Pearce for the past 59 years; father of 
Thomas M. (Mac) Pearce and wife Margaret of Semmes, Ala., Jan P. Hill and 
husband Craig of Slidell and Virginia E. (Ginger) Hogue and husband Alan of 
Slidell; son of the late Forest M. Pearce Sr. and Willard Varnado Pearce and 
brother of William E. Pearce and wife Jackie of Severn, Md. He is also survived 
by six grandchildren, Christina Perronne, Rebekah Galyon, Charles (Mac) Hogue, 
Eric Galyon, Corey Hogue and Carey Hogue and four great-grandchildren, Andrew 
Perronne, Matthew Perronne, Hunter Hogue and Autumn Hogue.

He was a native of Mandeville and a resident of Slidell for the past 73 years. 
Pearce was a 1948 graduate of Slidell High School where he played on the first 
SHS football team to ever win a state championship. He was a former Boy Scout 
and scoutmaster, and he served his country in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve. He was 
the former president and past carnival king of the Slidell Jaycees, former Past 
Master of the Slidell F&AM Lodge 311, former member of the Slidell Volunteer 
Fire Department and a charter member of the Slidell Police Auxiliary. He was 
also a former Slidell City councilman and served from 1974 to 1978. He was also 
the former Director of Civil Defense for St. Tammany Parish, former president 
and King of the Krewe of Perseus and was honored as king of the Slidell Women's 
Civic Club. Mr. Pearce was also a former Exxon distributor and was a lifelong 
member of First United Methodist Church of Slidell where he sang in the church 
choir.

The funeral service will be a 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church, 
433 Erlanger Ave., Slidell. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Internment 
will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Slidell.

Joyce Dupre Matherne passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 at her home in 
Mandeville, LA. 

She was born April 26, 1937 to the late Paul Ernest and Lucy Porche Dupre in 
Houma, LA and has been a resident of Mandeville since 1975.

The beloved wife of the late Lee Joseph Matherne, Sr., she is survived by one 
daughter: Penny Ann Matherne Dastugue (Quentin); three sons: Lee Joseph, 
Jr.(Margaret), Kenneth Lee and Michael Lawrence Matherne; three sisters: Iona 
Jean Colwart, Joan Ann Sevin, Judy Tabor and 11 grandchildren: Lee J., III, Chea 
M., Barry J., Maci A., Joseph T., Alayna L., Olivia K. and Christian M. 
Matherne, Kaitlin C., Margaux T. and Allison L. Dastugue. 

She was preceded in death by one son, Barry Joseph Matherne and her brother, 
Terry Paul Dupre.

Joyce pursued a career in the petroleum industry as a young woman. Working her 
way from an assistant to the president to acting president, chairman of the 
board and finally a consultant for Superior Casing Crews, Inc., she excelled 
when faced with challenges. Not just a day-to-day problem solver, she led and 
inspired the employees of the oil service and tool rental corporation to 
significant success. In addition to rearing four sons and one daughter, she was 
a member and past president of the Mandeville Republican Women, a dedicated 
parishioner at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was a past president of 
the Forest Park Neighborhood Association. In 1992, Joyce graduated Summa Cum 
Laude from Loyola University. She received a Bachelor of Sciences Degree while 
being honored with a membership to the Alpha Sigma Nu and Alpha Sigma Lambda 
Honor Societies, as well as the distinction of Outstanding Graduate of the 
Communication Sciences. Self-motivated and always enthusiastic, Joyce lived her 
life gracefully as an example for family and friends and was a leader in her 
community.

PM on Monday, December 21, 2009 from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 325

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, and retired from NOPSI after over 38 years

Eugene Joseph Bordelon passed away Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at his residence in 
Folsom at the age of 74. 

Eugene was born in New Orleans Oct. 9, 1935, by mid-wife at home located where 
the Dooky Chase's parking lot is today. Gene was a 1951 graduate of S.J. Peters 
High School.

As a young man, Gene worked for Joe's Lawnmower and Bicycle Shop. Gene went on 
to work for Emery and Kaufman Insurance Agency; he was general manager of Mayor 
Vic Schiro's Insurance Agency and then owned and managed his own insurance 
agency. He was a licensed private investigator. He retired this year as an 
independent insurance claims adjuster and a member of the National Order of Blue 
Goose in the Louisiana Pond. Gene was a reservist with the Air National Guard. 
He was a pilot and loved boating.

He was the son of the late Paul and Aurelia Bordelon and survived by his fiancˇ, 
Charlene Hamilton; sons, Scott Bordelon and Les Bordelon; daughter, Michelle 
Bordelon Guillot; two-step sons, Shane Hamilton and Richard Hamilton; grandsons, 
Jason Bordelon, Nick Bordelon, Shane Guillot and Benjamin Bordelon; 
granddaughters, Carly Bordelon and Camille Hamilton; along with numerous friends 
and loved ones.

Wesley W. Miller, 82, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at 
Greenbriar Community Center in Slidell of complications from a stroke. 

He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife and soul mate of 59 years, Dolores 
Dielenschneider Miller; father of David W. Miller, O.D. and wife Tammy Nunez 
Miller of Slidell and Alan Paul Miller, M.D. and wife Connie Courtial Miller of 
Eagle, Idaho; son of the late Thomas Calvin Miller and Margaret E. Corkern 
Miller of Isabelle. He is survived by his youngest sister, Margaret Elizabeth 
(Libby) Breazeale of Mandeville. He is also survived by three grandchildren, 
Joshua Adam Miller of Kuna, Idaho, Jeremy Sean Miller of Meridian, Idaho and 
Jeffrey David Miller of Ponchatoula, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers Buren, Thomas Jr., Monroe, Eloit "Red;" and 
sisters, Eva Miller Hughes, Elsie Miller Carson, Zula Miller Caston, Zernia 
Miller Beaujeaux.

He was a native of Mt. Herman, and a resident of Slidell for the past 53 years. 
Mr. Miller was a graduate of Mandeville High School and Louisiana College where 
he received his bachelor's degree and later obtained his master's degree from 
Mississippi College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World 
War II. He then devoted his life to teaching at Slidell High School where he 
touched countless lives and long after retirement remained an avid Slidell High 
Tiger fan. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Slidell.

The family wishes to thank the Rev. Starnes and Calvary Baptist Church as well 
as the physicians and staff involved with his care at Greenbriar Community 
Center, Slidell Memorial Hospital and Hospice Compassus for their exceptional 
and loving care.

James "Jimmy" Patrick O'Flynn Sr., 59, of Slidell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 
16, 2009. 

He was the beloved husband of Sandra Lyons O'Flynn; father of James Patrick 
O'Flynn Jr., and Jodie Ann O'Flynn; father-in-law of Jennifer Lorino and to 
Jason M. Burns and son-in-law of Joe and Dottie Lyons. He is also survived by 
four grandchildren, Jonathan D. O'Flynn, Jason P. O'Flynn, Jenna P. O'Flynn and 
McKenzie N. Burns. 

He was a native of New Orleans and a long time resident of Slidell. He was the 
area manager for Big Shot Beverage Co.

Jane Scwartz Polizzi, 82, of Slidell, passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009.

She was the adored wife of the late Dr. Louis A. Polizzi; mother of Antonia 
"Toni" Polizzi and the late Christopher L. Polizzi; daughter of the late Joseph 
P. Schwartz and Helen Zatarain Schwartz and sister of the late Virginia 
O'Connor, Joanne Williams, Helen Nelson and Carol Parish. She is also survived 
by four grandchildren; Jade Polizzi, Garrett Polizzi, Kyra Beckmann and 
Alexandra Polizzi. She was the great-grandmother of Zora Jane and Josie Louise 
Eckert.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1949 when Jane, 
her husband and daughter moved into the home of the Cusimano family to open Dr. 
Polizzi's first medical practice in Old Towne.

Jane immediately took over the lab, X-ray and administration until their 
retirement after 46 years. "Doc and Jane" were avid sportsmen often found 
fishing in Lake Borgne, the Rigolet's and duck hunting throughout Southeast 
Louisiana.

Jane not only kept up with the other sportsmen, she was known to out-fish and 
out-shoot many of the guys. Jane's extraordinary sense of style even made it to 
their duck blind, where she managed to find cashmere in olive drab and other 
camouflage shades.

They also took pride raising orchids and camellias of which there are camellias 
named for each of them.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a memorial Mass at 11 
a.m. Saturday, December 26, 2009 at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 
Cross Gates Blvd., Slidell, with the Rev. Adrian Hall officiating.

Mary Horgen LaPlante, age 82 of Mandeville, LA died on Monday December 21, 2009 
at 2:20 p.m. at her daughter's residence in Mandeville. She was the daughter of 
the late Johan Horgen and Florence Hess Horgen.

A native of New Orleans, LA she lived in Ohio, Minnesota, Mandeville, and Baton 
Rouge. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a former member of 
St. Thomas More Catholic Church (BR), Baton Rouge Eyebank Auxillary, Northgate 
Newcomers Club, Volunteers of America, and the Red Hat Society.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond J. LaPlante.

She is survived by a daughter, Stephanie LaPlante, two granddaughters, Mary 
Caroline and Katherine Elizabeth Henson.

Private services were held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Hospital on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the age of 82.

Beloved husband of 57 years to Jean Cooper Williams. Loving father of Robert 
Cooper Williams of Franklin, TN and Richard Hunter Williams of New Orleans. 
Father-in-law of Stacey West Williams. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel 
Alexander Williams of Oklahoma. Brother of Herbert Williams and the late Dorothy 
Williams and J.C. Williams. Grandfather of Jessica, McKain, Marcy, Hunter and 
Clayton Williams.

He was born and raised in Oklahoma, graduated from Oklahoma University as a 
petroleum engineer and moved with oil and gas industry to Louisiana where he 
resided for 40 years in New Orleans and retired to Covington, LA. Bob served in 
the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a lifetime member of the Society of Petroleum 
Engineers, resident and member of Tchefuncta Country Club and beloved member of 
Tchefuncta R.O.B.S.

on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding

Clarice Sherman Beran, 81, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at her residence.

She was the beloved wife of Robert A. Beran; mother of Carolyn Gilmore (Glen), 
Diane Reed (Mike) and Mary Heuchert (Louis); sister of Carrol Jensen, Gary 
Sherman and Frank Sherman; grandmother of James Roberts, Melissa Pitts, SSG. 
William Reed, U.S.M.C, Michael Reed and the late Kenneth Roberts; and great-
grandmother of Chase Robert Pitts, Felicity, Peyton, Ivy Jane Reed, Kayden Dugas 
and Mitchell Reed.

She was a native of Lexington, Neb., and a longtime resident of Slidell. She was 
a former member of Moose Lodge Chapter No. 1564.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Northshore 
Living Center and St. Catherine's Hospice for their gentle care.

Funeral services were held yesterday at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell, with the 
Rev. Ernest Saik, officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Evelyn Kolwe Giroir, 86, died at home surrounded by her family Sunday, Dec. 20, 
2009. She was a native of New Orleans, a former resident of Metairie and a 
resident of Covington since Hurricane Katrina.

She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Giroir Sr.; mother of the Rev. 
Msg. Frank J. Giroir Jr., Nancy Giroir Lee (Ron Lee) and Susan Giroir Parker; 
grandmother of Jennifer Ann Lee, Christopher Michael Lee and Elizabeth Ann 
Parker; sister of Doris K. Portera, Anne K. Spaulding, Ronald Kolwe, Kathy K.

of the late Frank and Agnes Farrelly Kolwe. She is also survived by numerous 
nieces and nephews.

Giroir was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Ludivicum 
Council, AARP Chapter 3902, Catholic Golden Age and the Ladies Auxiliary of 
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6640. She was also a parishioner of St. Anselm 
Church and a member of St. Anselm SAGA Group.

Deborah Ann Knowles, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, in Slidell, at the age 
of 54. She was born in Rockville Center, N.Y. Shewas a graduate of Astronaut 
High School in Titusville, Fla., and attended Stetson University.

Knowles was a real estate agent in Florida and worked for a time at Slidell High 
School after coming to Louisiana. She was a member of the First United Methodist 
Church of Slidell.

She is survived by her loving husband of more than 20 years, Timothy Knowles; 
her children, Kathleen "Kate" Dempsey and Meg Knowles; mother, Jean Oschmann, 
and father, Edward Smith Jr.; grandmother, Margaret Smith; brother, Richard 
Smith, and sister, Donna Scott.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Smith; and her stepfather, 
Herbert Oschmann.

Charles Louis Mistich, 70, of Slidell, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at 
Northshore Regional Medical Center. Charles fought a hard and courageous battle 
with cancer for a year and now has gone home to be with his Lord. He will be 
sadly and lovingly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret Clayton Mistich; three 
children, Charles L. Mistich Jr., Leonard S. Mistich and Cindy Mistich Breland; 
seven grandchildren, Keith Delahoussaye Jr., Charles L. Mistich III, Courtney 
Mistich, Stephanie Mistich, Jeremy Breland, Chad Mistich and Clayton Mistich; 
one great-grandchild, Sebastian Mistich; son-in-law, Larry Breland Jr.; 
daughter-in-law, Renee' Manning Mistich; and granddaughter-in-law to be, 
Jennifer Aucoin. He is also survived by three sisters, Claudette Landry, 
Paulette Latham and Jo-Ann Mistich; one brother, Floyd Bergeron; and numerous 
nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Holman Bergeron and Louis A. 
Mistich.

Mistich was a native of Buras and a resident of Slidell for the past 22 years. 
He retired with a master's license in offshore vessel operations with unlimited 
tonnage and was also a former Plaquemines Parish Deputy Sheriff. The family 
gives a special thank you to Concerned Care Home Health and especially to his 
nurse, Stacie. Also to his doctor's who did everything they could to save his 
life: Dr. Michael Karam, Dr. Dale LeBlanc and Dr. Arvind Gopal.

U.S. Veteran Ernest Everette Cook, Sr. passed away on Saturday, December 26, 
2009.

Beloved husband of 62 years to Patsy Fisher Cook; and loving father of Edward E. 
Cook, Patricia C. Harrison and Diane C. Lockfield. He was also survived by five 
grandsons and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, 
Ernest E. Cook, Jr.; his mother, Hallie Wise Cook; his father, George Cook; and 
four sisters.

Age 82 years, a native of Buckingham County, VA, he was a resident of Covington, 
LA for the past 45 years. He lived in South Africa for 18 years while working 
for Gulf Oil Co. and Amoco Oil Co. He retired from Gulf Oil Co. in 1978 and from 
Amoco Oil Co. in 1990. A United States Navy veteran, he served during World War 
II.

Printing and Publishing of New Orleans. A Naval Veteran of WWII. He served in 
the Panama Canal Zone with the Fleet Air Wing 3 Command in search of German 
submarines.

William Randall O'Rourke, Jr. passed away on December 27, 2009 at the age of 72.

He was the beloved husband of Cynthia Treitler O'Rourke for 47 years; father to 
Bryan, Glenn, and Jeannine; grandfather to William, Nate, Mason, Madison, Shawn 
and Margaux; and brother to Patrick Tim O'Rourke.

Bill was born and raised in New Orleans, graduated from De La Salle High School, 
the United States Air Force Academy and received an MBA from Auburn University. 
He was a highly decorated Air Force pilot and veteran of the Vietnam War who 
achieved the rank of Colonel prior to his retirement after 28 years of service 
to his country. His distinguished career included teaching, serving as a 
contract executive and consulting to a variety of clients. The philosophy of 
life that he followed made him an inspiration to many.

To honor Bill's wishes, he was memorialized by close family members with a 
private celebration of his life.

Karl K. Slinker, a resident of Trinity Neurologic Rehabilitation Center in 
Slidell, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009.

He was the beloved father of Constance J. Slinker and Mary K. Slinker; the son 
of Constance Pichon Slinker and the late Henry Allen Slinker; and brother of 
Richard A. Slinker and John C. Slinker.

Slinker, 49, was a lifelong resident of Slidell and a former local car salesman 
for O'Neil's Auto Mart. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Slidell 
and an avid LSU and New Orleans Saints fan.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell (in Forest Lawn 
Cemetery) Tuesday at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m .to 1 p.m. Interment 
will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Donations to the building fund at Grace Memorial Baptist Church or the Student 
Center Fund at the First Baptist Church of Slidell are preferred, in lieu of 
flowers.

Gilda Vance, 69, of Pearl River, passed away Dec. 22, 2009.

She is survived by two sons, Tony and Randy Vance; daughter-in-law, Kelly Vance; 
two brothers, Pete Lopez and Leslie Philips; sister, Jackie Dowlin; four 
grandchildren, Clay and Erika Vance, Raymond Smith and Trevor Reynolds; and four 
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend, Jennifer Craw-
ford.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 
Louisiana Highway 41, Pearl River. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until service 
time. Interment will be in the Hickory Memorial Gardens, Pearl River.

Avis Gelis Lewis, 82, of Slidell, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, Dec. 22, 
2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jean Louis Gelis and Lodo 
Hebert Gelis; one sister, Lucy Gelis; and four brothers, J.B., Lucien, Paul and 
George Gelis. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Burton Lewis for 57 
Years.

She is survived by her four children, Cynthia Lewis of Madisonville, Michael R. 
Lewis of Slidell, Craig A. Lewis and his wife Margie of Mandeville and Beverly 
Lewis Sellers and her husband Gene of Abbeville; eight grandchildren, Patrick 
Theil II of Madisonville, Lauren L. Edwards and her husband Clark of Parsons, 
Kan., Aaron C. Lewis and Devon K. Lewis of Mandeville, Chanel S. Broussard and 
her husband James of Lafayette, E. Marshall Sellers III, Taylor Lewis Sellers 
and Hunter B. Sellers all of Abbeville; and one great-grandchild, Genevieve 
Gelis Broussard. She is also survived by her sisters, Sister Mildred Gelis OSB, 
Saint Leo, Fla., and Juanita Gelis Mayeaux and her husband Paul of Slidell.

Lewis was a native and lifelong resident of Slidell. She was a devoted member of 
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Parish, the Kays Club, the Krewe of Troy and 
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 11 
a.m. Monday at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd, in 
Slidell. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.

Internment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery 1751 Gause Boulevard, West, Slidell.

John "Tim" Woodward, 47, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009, at his Slidell 
residence. He was a native of San Berrnadino, Calif.

He was the lifelong companion of Ray Coggins; and brother of Frank Woodard, Kay 
Starnes, Jimbo Woodward and Kisha Tillery.

He was employed in the restaurant industry for many years.

Services will be held Monday at Saint Peters Catholic Church in Covington for 
Dudley Cole Watts Jr. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon followed by a 
Mass.

Watts, who passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at 12:36 a.m. at Opelousas General 
Health System, was a native of Abita Springs and a resident of Opelousas. He 
retired as a sergeant first class with the U.S. Army after serving 21 years and 
10 months.

He then worked as a licensed master plumber for his own business, DC's Plumbing. 
He retired after working there for 22 years. Watts enjoyed fishing, dancing, 
bowling and spending time with family. Watts was a parishioner for Our Lady 
Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas.

Mourning his departure while cherishing his memories are his wife of 28 years 
Annette Watts of Opelousas; three sons, Dudley Watts III (Brennetta) of 
Covington, Douglas Watts (Rhonda) of El Paso, Texas, and Darren Watts (Kim) of 
Lafayette; four daughters, Yolanda Clark of Washington Parish, Tracy Clark of 
Opelousas, Monica Sapp of Natchitoches and Mary Boyd (Chad) of Carencro; 21 
grandchildren; three brothers, Toye Watts (Linda) of Leesville, Leonard Watts 
(Augustine) of Lumberton, Miss., and Joseph Watts of Deridder; six sisters, Gwen 
Chave (Donald) of Westlake; Christine White (Tommy) of Sulphur, Marcia Watts of 
Hammond, Amelia Watts of Abita Springs, Terrylyn Richardson of Clarksville, 
Tenn., and Gabrilla Richard of Deridder; a best friend Shelby Berry (Elaine) of 
Decutur, Ill.; two godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley Watts Sr. and Thelma Watts; one 
infant granddaughter; and three sisters, Melvin Watts, Barbara Jean Bator and 
Georgia May Raney.

Woodrow Isaac Booth passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the age of 92.

Beloved husband of the late Gladys Vivian Taylor Booth and loving father of daughters Linda Booth (Gene), Barbara Fitzgerald (Joe), Kathleen Walsdorf (Michael) and Patty Ostendorf (Randy). He is survived by nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Son of the late Eugenie Estelle Gotti Booth and David Alfred Booth. He was preceded in death by brothers Louis E. Booth and Archie D. Booth, and sisters Marie B. Hankins, Gladys B. Diaz, and Louise B. Davis.

He was a life-long resident of Folsom, LA.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM from the Chapel at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st. Ave., Covington, LA 70433 with visitation on Saturday beginning at 11:00 AM until service time.

DINSTUHL

The Rev. Max L. Dinstuhl, 87, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

He was the beloved husband of Dorothy D. Dinstuhl; father of Becky Henning (Mark) and Kathy Trombatore; grandfather of Alexandra Henning; and brother of Eugene Dinstuhl, Edna Dinstuhl McBride and the late C.M. Dinstuhl III.

Dinstuhl was a native of Memphis, Tenn., a longtime resident of New Orleans and a resident of Lacombe since Hurricane Katrina. He was the owner of Dinstuhl Printing and Publishing of New Orleans and a naval veteran of World War II. He served in the Panama Canal Zone with the Fleet Air Wing 3 Command in search of German submarines.

Val Huther Hufft passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, in Covington. The son of Val Louis and the late Audrey Huther Hufft, he was born March 3, 1958. He was raised in Harahan and lived his adult life in Metairie.

He is survived by one brother, Ron; his sister-in-law, Julie; and one niece, Erin Nicole Hufft.

He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed spending most of his time with his family and friends. He will be missed.

LAGMAN

Edgar Lagman, a resident of Slidell, passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2009.

He is survived by four sons, Edgar Lagman, Eugene Lagman, Wayne Lagman and David Lagman; two daughters, Sharon Adams and Patricia Hebert; brothers, Alfred Lagman and Louis Lagman; sister, Callie Mae Dufrene; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Farve Lagman.

Lagman was a lifetime member of American Legion. He was a past commander of Post 288 and a member of Post 0374 of Slidell. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5174 and of St. Margaret Mary Church of Slidell. He served with the U.S. Army 962nd Air Engineer Squadron.

A wake will be held from 6-10 p.m. Sunday at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana Highway 41, and services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Williams Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.

Lucille Bieller Martin, 80, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. She was a native of New Orleans and a longtime resident of Slidell.

She was the daughter of the late Josephine and Walter Bieller; mother of Deborah L. Weaver (Bill), Kathryn L. Impastato (Raymond) and Susan L. Lamothe (David); grandmother of Lucy Weaver, Todd Weaver, Brett Weaver, Brad Impastato, Nicole Impastato Blum, Ryan Impastato, Courtney Lamothe and Katie Lamothe; and also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

Maureen Elizabeth Hanlon McCullough, 56, a longtime resident of Slidell and a resident of Baton Rouge for the past three years, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, in Baton Rouge.

She was the mother of Bonnie E. McCullough and Shelly A. McCullough; daughter of John and Barbara Hanlon; sister of John Hanlon Jr. and wife Debie Hanlon and Sharon Canzoneri and husband Barry Canzoneri; and aunt of Daniel Hanlon, Casey Hanlon and the late Christopher "Moose" Hanlon. She is also survived by numerous other family and friends.

A native of New Orleans, Maureen was an elementary school teacher who taught at St. Francis Grammar School and Immaculate Heart of Mary, both in New Orleans and Abney Elementary School in Slidell. She was a graduate of Holy Angels High School in New Orleans and UNO. She was a member of Preffered Teachers Association, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association and received the St. Tammany Parish Elks Teacher of the Year award for 1996-1997 and the Abney Elementary School Teacher of the Year award. She was an avid LSU football fan and enjoyed reading and going to movies.

NICHOLSON

James B. Nicholson, 86, a retired Methodist minister and one of the original 28 Methodist ministers in Mississippi who signed the document "Born of Conviction," taking a stand against racism in the church, went to his Heavenly home on Christmas Day.

Born Aug. 15, 1923, in Lauderdale, Miss., he was the son of the Rev. T.E. and Sara Prisock Nicholson. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Southern Methodist University School of Theology. He married Alice Matilda Lee Walker Feb. 24, 1945. She preceded him in death April 27, 1974. He married Hilda Gerdes Denley Jan. 25, 1980, and she preceded him in death March 21, 2007. He was also preceded in death by a son, Howard Franklin Nicholson of Iowa City, Iowa, Oct. 17, 2007, as well as his parents; brother, Cecil Nicholson; and sister, Alene Nicholson Felder.

He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and was presented his service pin in 2003, following action by the U.S. Congress acknowledging the role of the Merchant Marines in the war's victory.

In January 1963, Nicholson was one of 28 Methodist ministers in Mississippi who signed a document titled "Born of Conviction." Their action was not a popular move for any of them, as they were voted out of the Mississippi Methodist Conference and many were ostracized by their own families. Nicholson's congregation in Byram, Miss., removed him from the pulpit, and he moved his family to Truro, Iowa.

The action taken by that group of ministers helped fuel the change that began to take place in Mississippi, yet went largely unnoticed until the 25 remaining members of the group held a reunion in 2005.

He is survived by one son, James Bennett Nicholson II (Pat) of Slidell; one daughter, Teresa Fleming (David) of North English, Iowa; two stepsons, David Denley of Sigourney, Iowa, and Karl Denley (Bonnie), eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a number of stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and a nephew, John H. Walker (Stephanie) of Bogalusa. He is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Nicholson (Jane) of Greensboro, N.C., and the Rev. Charles Nicholson (Dimple) of Lake Junaluska, N.C.; two sisters, Jeanette Williams of Trussville, Ala., and Georgia Lane (Willie) of Collins, Miss., as well as several nieces and nephews.

Prior to his retirement, Nicholson pastored churches in Texas, Mississippi and Iowa. He donated his body to The University of Iowa Hospitals. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mickal Wayne Schaller Sr., 58, of Pearl River, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Nichols Schaller; sons, Mickal Jr. and Skipper, both of Pearl River, and Jason of Roanoke, N.C. He is also survived by his godchild, Fred Schaller of Slidell.

Deborah Sims, 58, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2009.

She was the mother of Kevin Sims and the late Brian Sims; daughter of the late Carl and Mary Smith; and sister of Donna Mahrous, Robert Smith, Sandra Trumbach and the late Carl Smith Jr. She is also survived by one granddaughter, River Sims.

Sims was a native of Holyoke, Mass., a longtime resident of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 20 years. She was a medical receptionist with Ochsner Clinic in Slidell for more than 15 years.

Memorial services were held Dec. 21 at Honaker Funeral Home in Slidell. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

TANNER

Dorothy "Dotsy" Abney Tanner, 80, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Greenbriar Community Care Center.

Born in Slidell Dec. 23, 1929, she was a 1947 graduate of Slidell High School and a graduate of Louisiana State University. She taught elementary school in Baton Rouge and was a former vice-president of First Bank in Slidell. She also worked at Abney Furniture Store, her brother John's business.

She was involved in many local civic organizations over the years including the Slidell Symphony Society, Ozone Camellia Club, Slidell Garden Club, Guardians of Slidell History and Slidell High 50-Year Club.

She was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Daughter of the late Walter L. and Annie Miller Abney, she is survived by her four children, Thomas Tanner Jr. (Ellen), Walter Tanner (Jamie), Elizabeth Tanner Edwards (Ian) and Susan Tanner Hanson (Andrew); 10 grandchildren, Paul, Megan, Katherine, J.T., Wesley, Lindsey, Molly, Cecilia, Aubrey and Amelie; sister, Evella Noelie "Snooky" Abney Vivien (Charles); and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Lawrence "Floppy" Abney, Robert "Bobby" Abney, Annie "Bootsie" Abney Rogers, Lincoln "Linky" Abney, John Abney, Wilbert "Scrappy" Abney and Thomas "Tommy" Abney.

Joyce is a proud member of the Viet Nam Veterans Associations and also an active member of the Special Olympics. Joyce will be sadly missed.

Kathryn Burleson Mincher passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009.

Beloved wife of 63 years to Jack Richard Mincher; loving mother of Thomas "Tom" Richard Mincher, Laura Elaine M. Hamlin and Lawrence "Larry" Gordon Mincher; and grandmother of Josh, Kelly, Ashley, Katie and Amanda. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Ammons Burleson; and her father, John Murphy Burleson.

Age 86 years, she was native of Ashville, NC and a resident of Covington, LA for the past 47 years. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught at St. Peter's School and Riverforest School.
