BEAVERS

Miriam Sibila Beavers, 88, passed away Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Colonel Thomas Webb Beavers, U.S.A.F. 
Ret.; mother of Thomas S. Beavers (Jane I. Beavers) of Ocean Springs, Miss., 
Carl T. Beavers (Debbie A. Beavers) of Metairie and Carol B. Conklin (Jim 
Conklin) of Knoxville, Tenn.; daughter of the late Thomas Sibila and Ali Taka-
Aho Sibila; and sister of Thomas Sibila. She is also survived by six 
grandchildren, Patricia, Thomas, Michelle, Anthony and Michael Beavers, all of 
Metairie, and Cary Trochesset of Brooklyn, N.Y.

Beavers was a native of Brooklyn and a resident of Slidell since 1975. Along 
with her late husband, she was a member of the Retired U.S. Air Force Officers 
Association.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.

A visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 
Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell. Graveside services will be 
held at Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30pm.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass for Sally Christie 
Giroir, 76, of Slidell, who died June 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. Jan. 9 at Honaker 
Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell. Interment 
is in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is at 9 a.m.

She was the beloved wife of Philip L. Giroir Jr.; mother of Phyllis G. Culotta 
(Anthony); and sister of Dorothy Helen Elder and Barbara Stewart Garrett. She is 
also survived by two grandchildren, Nicky Culotta (Stacey) and Brandi Elizabeth 
Culotta; and three great-grandchildren, Isabella Elizabeth Culotta, Gianna 
Sophia Culotta and Nicolina Antonia Culotta.

Donations to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, are preferred, in lieu of flowers.

Gail Lois Mesa Kramer passed away on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the age of 60. 
Gail was a native of Metairie, LA and a resident of Folsom, LA. Gail was 
preceded in death by her beloved son Phillip Mathias Kramer. Former wife of 
Lawrence Mathias Kramer. Mother of Lance Bermudez and Sonia Cialona. Daughter of 
Dorothy Welsh Mesa and the late Raymond Mesa. Sister of Fred Mesa.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of 
Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Road, Covington, LA 70435 on Monday, 
January 11, 2010 at 11:00 am. Visitation from 9:30 am until service time.

LAGMAN

Edgar Lagman, a resident of Slidell, passed away Friday, Dec. 25, 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Farve Lagman; four sons, Edgar 
Lagman, Eugene Lagman, Wayne Lagman and David Lagman; and two daughters, Sharon 
Adams and Patricia Hebert. He is also survived by brothers, Alfred Lagman and 
Louis Lagman; sister, Callie Mae Dufrene; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-
grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lagman was a lifetime member of American Legion. He was a past commander of Post 
288 and a member of Post 0374 of Slidell. He was also a member of Veterans of 
Foreign Wars Post 5174 and of St. Margaret Mary Church of Slidell. He served 
with the U.S. Army 962nd Air Engineer Squadron.

A wake will be held from 6-10 p.m. Sunday at Williams Funeral Home, 67525 
Louisiana Highway 41, and services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Williams 
Funeral Home. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell.

LAURENT

Leonard J. Laurent of Covington died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at the age of 88. 
He was born on Nov. 13, 1921, and is survived by his wife, Rosie L. Laurent; 
three sisters and four brothers.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Daughty Chapel A.M.E. Church in 
Covington. Interment will be in Wilson Cemetery in Covington.

Richardson Funeral Home of St. Tammany is in charge on the arrangements.

MERWIN

Alice Faye Ferguson Merwin passed away of natural causes Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, 
at the age of 69. She was a resident of Abita Springs for the past 36 years.

She was the beloved wife of James Herbert Merwin Sr. for the past 51 years; 
daughter of the late Dorothy Jane Rickman and Robert Malloy Fergurson; mother of 
Patricia Faye Giroir, Pamela Ann Slemmer and James Herbert Merwin Jr.; and also 
survived by nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Rest in Peace Maw 
Maw.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 
p.m. Saturday at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Lee Road, Covington.

Cheryl Ann Naylor passed away Monday, Dec. 28, 2009.

She was the beloved companion of David Joyner; loving mother of Jeff Naylor (and 
fiancˇ Sonja); daughter of the late Ethel Finley Smith and Charles M. Smith; 
sister of Dennis Smith and the late Martiale Smith; and grandmother of Brett, 
Victoria and Kyle Naylor.

She was a native of Cleveland and a longtime resident of St. Tammany Parish.

Rosalie Marie Boudreaux Waller, loving wife, mother, grandmother died Christmas 
morning, at 8:45 a.m. She was 80 years old.

Waller was a native of Thibodaux and resident of Harahan for 50 years.

She was the beloved wife of Bernard Berwick Waller Jr.; daughter of the late 
Octave Urban Boudreaux and Clothilde Clement Boudreaux; loving mother of Bernard 
Berwick "Buzzy" Waller III (deceased), Douglas J. (Deborah), Jeffrey A. 
(Jerome), Thomas J. (Julie), Mary Ann Lavigne (Keith), Barbara J. Kinder (Mark), 
Jane M. Sanchez (Gary) and Nancy S. Waguespack (James); sister of Eulalie B. 
Brignac and Clothilde B. Geraci and the late Alfred Boudreaux and Marguerite B. 
Talbot. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
She was devoted to her family and the Blessed Mother.

A funeral Mass was held Tuesday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel. 
Entombment followed in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

Ethel Maxine Bivalacqua Lane passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the age 
of 82.

Beloved wife by first marriage, the late Rosario Bivalacqua and by second 
marriage, the late John Walter Lane. Loving mother of Linda Mae Bivalacqua and 
the late Edward Charles Bivalacqua. Daughter of the late Mildred Woodruff 
Heimann and George Albert Heimann. Sister of Milton Charles Heimann and the late 
William Henry Heimann. Sister-in-law of Grace Capiano, Mary Diecidue, Josie 
Avocato, Rita Lee, Nash, Frank, Mike, Salvador and Eddie Bivalacqua. Grandmother 
of Rae Ann Bivalacqua and Donna Richardson Meissner (and fiance', Alois "Rusty" 
Guepet). Great-grandmother of Brittany Mae Meissner. Also survived by nieces and 
nephews.

Mrs. Lane was restaurant manager at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1979 
until 2001.

All funeral services were private.

Mary Ann Kasischke Koon lost her courageous battle with leukemia on Sunday, 
January 3, 2010 at the age of 64.

Mary Ann was the daughter of Aline Freret Kasischke and the late Charles F. 
Kasischke Sr. She was survived by her husband A. Wesley Koon III, her daughters 
Rebecca K. Walker (Jody) and Melinda C. Koon; her mother Aline F. Kasischke, her 
siblings Charles F. Kasischke Jr. (Christine), Janet K. Cromer (David), Ben H. 
Kasischke, and James F. Kasischke. Mary Ann also leaves behind her precious 
grandchildren Catherine and Sydney Walker. In addition she is survived by many 
nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of loving friends.

Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Scholastica Academy, and received a B.A. and 
M.Ed. from Southeastern University. She retired as an educator of 33 years in 
both Jefferson and St. Tammany Parishes with her last 11 years as principal at 
Lyon Elementary School in Covington. She was active member in her community, 
involved in the Greater Covington Kiwanis Club, a HOSTS mentor at Lyon 
Elementary, Ozone Square Dance Club, St. Benedict's Catholic Church and their 
Food Ministry. She was an advocate and supporter of the arts.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass at 
St. Peter Catholic Church, 125 East 19th Ave., Covington, LA 70433 on Friday, 
January 8th at 12:00 noon.

Visiting hours will begin at 10:00am.

Interment at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Covington will immediately follow 
mass.

Velma Casanova Rizzo, 96, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009.

She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Rizzo and the loving mother of 
Janice G. Lee, Terry F. Lee, Imelda Eileen Zetterberg and the late Robert R. Lee 
Sr. She was the daughter of the late Margaret Brunett Casanova and Christian 
Casanova. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 
great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 11 siblings.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 11 
a.m. Tuesday at St. Jane de Chantal Catholic Church, 72040 Maple St., Abita 
Springs, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St.

Gerard August Just was born June 7, 1941, and departed this life Monday, Dec. 
28, 2009. 

He was the beloved father of Angie Hance, Lisa Tabor, Michael Just and Bryan 
Just; the son of Marcella Marie Schwarz and the late Gerard Arthur Just; the 
brother of Gloria Lazarcheff and Larry Just; and grandfather of 11 
grandchildren. 

He was a native of Weiner, Ark., and a resident of Gadsden, Ala., for 10 years. 
A prayer service will be held at St. Paul's Church in St. Paul, Missouri at 2 
p.m. today.

Interment will be at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Weiner. 

A memorial Mass will also be held Feb. 4 at St. James Catholic Church in 
Gadsden.

Mrs. Cordovis was native of Havana, Cuba and a resident of New Orleans since 
1978.

Clyde Lacy Dinkins passed away on January 5, 2010. He was born June 18, 1936 in 
Jacksonville, FL to Alice Fowler Dinkins and the late Emmett B. Dinkins and has 
been a resident of Mandeville, LA for the past 12 years.

The beloved husband of Mable Arrant Dinkins, he is survived by his daughter, Joy 
Lynn Dinkins; two sons, Mitchell L. Dinkins and Steve D. Dinkins (Karla); two 
step-sons, Steve Burgess (Carleen) and Stuart Burgess (Ty Ledet); four sisters: 
Peggy Goff (Jim), Permelia Rogers (James), Carolyn Dean (Ken) and Linda Oliver 
(Robert); four grandchildren: M. Wayne Catt, Christopher, Ashley and Jessica 
Dinkins; four step-grandchildren: Ben, Corey, Steven and Megan Burgess. He is 
also survived by two step great-grandchildren, Max and Lily Burgess.

Glendy John Munson, Jr. peacefully entered eternal rest Tuesday, January 5, 
2010.

Glendy was born in New Orleans September 15, 1924. A native of New Orleans, he 
lived in Mandeville for the past five years. 

Son of the late Glendy John Munson, Sr. and Aglone Marie "Bootz" Foret Munson of 
Houma, LA and brother to Nellie M. Rauch and the late Donald H. Munson.

He is survived by his wife Janice Lafaye Munson. Father of Marion Britsch 
(Ronnie), Glendy Munson, III (Connie), Claudia Munson, Ashton Munson, Jan Munson 
and Liz Munson. Grandfather to Kathryn Britsch Romano (Chip), Graham Doyle 
(Cameron), Shawn Doyle (Thyme), Ron Britsch (Carrey), Beth Britsch, Casey Munson 
(Lindsay), Margaret Munson Eagle (Andy), and Caroline Munson. Great grandfather 
to Jack and Andrew Romano, Shawn, Maggie, and Brady Doyle, Jake Doyle, Andrew 
Eagle and William Britsch.

Glendy attended Jesuit High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he 
served as Corporal, Battery A 7th Field Artillery Observation Battalion in 
Normandy, France for over one year. Upon returning to the states he attended 
Loyola University and graduated in Business Administration.

He worked for Lafaye & Arnaud Coffee Company for 36 years. He was President of 
the Green Coffee Association of New Orleans 1980-1981 and a former member of the 
New Orleans Board of Trade.

Frances Bailey Toney, resident of Folsom, LA, passed away at the Care Center in 
Baton Rouge, on Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2010.

She was born in Tangipahoa Parish on January 10th,1918.

Survivors include her children, Vaunice T. Tate and Billy P. Toney; 6 
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband Adnell Toney; 
son-in-law, James C. Tate; and her parents, Lela Willie Bailey and Pierce 
Bailey.

She worked 25 years at St. Tammany Parish Hospital and retired in 1986 as a 
Nurses Aide.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend funeral services on 
Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Folsom, 13320 
Broadway St., Folsom, LA 70437 with visitation at church on Saturday will begin 
at 8:30 AM. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church of Folsom Cemetery.

August 1, 1931 - January 6, 2010 	

Jim Kropog, of River Ridge, LA passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010. 
Devoted father of son Jim Kropog Jr. and daughters Bonnie Kropog, Kathy Dodge 
and Kerri Bassett. Beloved grandfather of Allan Maxwell III , Kelly Kropog-
Schwark, Ryan Kropog and Brian Elledge.
Originally from Albany, LA, Jim is survived by 9 siblings, Helen, Margaret, 
Tilly, Irene, Louise, Julius, Billy, Kathrine and Ernie.

A private memorial service was held in Mandeville, LA where Jim was lovingly 
honored by family and close friends. He will be terribly missed but always 
remembered by those who love him.

Richard Owen "Dick" Shelton passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, 
January 6, 2010 at the age of 89.

He was a native of Clarksdale, MS and attended Ole Miss before serving as Lt. in 
the Navy aboard the Battleship Washington during WW II.

Dick was a resident of Covington for the past 50 years with his beloved wife 
Jonette Helms Shelton.

He is survived by his stepdaughter Janis Dunning Caserta (Ronald Caserta); three 
grandchildren: Ashley Caserta Scheuermann (Christian), Joseph Scott Caserta 
(Melissa) and Catherine Shelton Caserta and six great grandchildren. He is also 
survived by one brother, Gayle Cochrane Shelton of Birmingham, AL and his 
sister, Marguerite Shelton Bolen of Clarksdale, MS.

U.S. Veteran Ernest E. Andry, Jr. ("Bucky") passed away on January 7, 2010, at 
home with his family, ending a long and valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. 
Born September 28, 1939, a native of Algiers and resident of Mandeville for the 
last 18 years.

Beloved husband of Janice Jordan Andry for 47 years. Father of Michele Alys 
Andry Richardson (Michael), Jill Elizabeth Andry Giberga (Sam) and Lisa Anne 
Andry Gargiulo (John). Grandfather of Emily M. Richardson, Sophia H. Giberga, 
Samuel A. Giberga, Joseph E. Giberga, Andrew T. Gargiulo, Jordan C. Gargiulo and 
Katherine M. Gargiulo. He is also survived by his sister Jane Andry Soulant.

He was a graduate of Jesuit High School, Class of '57; and the University of 
Louisiana Lafayette. He was a pilot in the United States Air Force, a Vietnam 
Veteran and a Military Intelligence Officer.

Abbey, 75376 River Road, Covington, on Monday, January 11, 2010, at 2 pm.

Louis C. Dragon, Jr. passed away on Thursday January 7, 2010.

Survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Valerie Loze Dragon; his loving 
children, Donald Louis Dragon, Darrell Christian Dragon (Sherri), Diane Dragon 
Pierce (Reid), Devin Michael Dragon (Robyn) and David Paul Dragon (Regina); nine 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; he is also survived by his brother-

Age 76 years, he was a native of New Orleans, LA, former resident of Kenner, LA 
and a current resident of Mandeville, LA for the past six years.

Houston "Tire-man" McGruder Jr., 73, died at Bogalusa Medical Center Saturday, 
Jan. 2, 2010, from heart disease. He was born March 5, 1936, in Yazoo City, 
Miss., to Emdell Smith and Houston McGruder, Sr. He lived in Lacombe and worked 
as a tire salesman up until his death.

Survivors include his wife Mary O'Neal; children Thomas, Anthony, Michael, 
Sharon, Eddie, Kathy, Judith, Kimberly, Patricia, Jennifer, Patricia, Kisha, 
Shannon, Houston, Rolland, Kyle, Justin; siblings Johnnie B., Thomas, Jesse 
James, Malachi, Nathaniel, Alfonzo, Patricia Ann, Jo Juanita, Annie Frances, 
Ike; and a bounty of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his spouses Susie, Annie B., Tilda; children Ingrid 
Ann, Jeffery, Houston; and siblings Hazel, Catherine and Hezekiah.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Doyle's Funeral Home, 2430 Fourth St.,

Age 85 years, he was a native of Vacherie, La, having been born at Laura 
Plantation, a resident of Covington, La for the past 16 years, and a former 
resident of Metairie, La. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 
aboard the USS Ellet, and was an avid volunteer in many veteran and civic 
organizations.

Mason Turk passed from his family and this earth on Friday, January 8, 2010. 
Born January 16, 1989 in Baton Rouge, he was the beloved son of Regina L. 
Brumfield of Mandeville and Jerry D. Turk of Baton Rouge.

Mason's passing has broken the hearts of his twin brother, William J. Turk and 
his other siblings and their families: sister Laura Turk Odom and husband Jim 
Odom; brother Ryan Turk and wife Jeanette Turk; brother Kelly Turk; brother 
Ralph N. Menetre, IV and wife Ashley Menetre. Mason is also survived by his 
beloved nieces and nephews: Ashton, Jordan and Ally Odom, Dylan Turk, Sabian and 
Myles Menetre and Nova Turk.

Mason will remain in our hearts forever. His family and friends will remember 
his beautiful eyes and smile that illuminated the lives of everyone he met.

A celebration and remembrance of his life will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday, 
January 17, 2010 at The Healing Place Church, 19202 Highland Rd., Baton Rouge,

Melva Cartwright Cox, a native of Amite, LA and a longtime resident of 
Covington, died peacefully at her home on January 9, 2010 at the age of 87.

"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her"

Melva graduated from Amite High School in 1938 as valedictorian. She attended 
University of Mississippi in Oxford where she earned an undergraduate degree in 
business in 1942. While at Ole Miss she met Bob Cox of Greenville, Mississippi. 
Soon after December 7, 1941, with The War on their minds, and his enlistment 
calling, they eloped. Their best man was his best friend and an Ole Miss 
colleague, Adolph Wettlin Treppendahl from Woodville, MS.

Melva was a gracious lady, a devoted mother, a loyal, spirited and forgiving 
wife; and in her later years, having earned a Master's Degree in Social Work 
from LSU in 1979, developed into a compassionate counselor. Her stories of 'the 
days of the dog kennel', teaching at Fifth Ward and the escapades at the 
Riverboat Tchefuncte could entertain one for hours. An avid gardener, she was 
also a co-founder of Covington's Town and Country Garden Club.

Melva will be remembered for her easy laughter, sympathetic ears, selfless 
generosity, the love and devotion she had for her children and grandchildren and 
the surprising yet fearless independence which guided her through life.

Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elmore Cox; one son, Sidney 
Cartwright Cox and her granddaughter, Laura McCulloch Treppendahl.

She is survived by one son, Robert E. Cox of Covington; her daughter and son-in-
law, Coco and David Treppendahl of St. Francisville; and their children: 
Katherine, Rob and Sophie Treppendahl.

The family would like to offer a special and heartfelt thanks to her loving 
caregiver, Maria McMullen.

Preceded in death by his father, Edward Y. Easterly Sr.; and mother, Dolores 
Adams Easterly. 

He received a bachelor's degree from LSU and was a member of Kappa Alpha 
fraternity. 

He served on the board of directors for Guaranty Bank and Destin Bank.

Mary Faye Raulston Shullaw, 84, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 
2010, at Givens Estate, Asheville, N.C.

A native of Chattanooga, Tenn., she attended the University of Chattanooga, 
where she was initiated into the Tennessee Chapter of Pi Beta Phi. During World 
War II, she volunteered as a WAVE in the US Navy and had worked in laboratory 
research at the National Naval Research Institute in Bethesda, Md. As a result 
of her work, she was offered a fellowship to attend the University of Colorado 
at Boulder. It was there she met Burton L. Shullaw, to whom she was married for 
50 years before his death.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Chauncey 
and Dorothy Raulston.

She is survived by her three children, Lee Shullaw Lennox (Jeffrey) of 
Hendersonville, N.C., J. Scott Shullaw (Kathy) of Huntersville, N.C., and Wayne 
A. Shullaw, Sr. (Joy) of Lafayette; nine grandchildren and nine great-
grandchildren.

Vanessa Gail Crawford was born Aug. 30, 1959, in New Orleans. She was born the 
daughter of proud parents, Mildred Smith Crawford and the late Thomas Crawford 
Jr.

Vanessa attended Slidell High School and received her high school diploma. She 
went on to further her education at Southern University in New Orleans, where 
she obtained a degree in social work. She continued to work in this field until 
she became disabled. Vanessa was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in 
Slidell.

Vanessa loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed spending time 
with her puppy, Diamond, which was like a child to her.

She also enjoyed cooking and taking care of her many plants. Vanessa was never 
married and had no children.

She leaves to mourn her memory, her loving and devoted family including her 
mother, Mildred Crawford of Slidell; her sister, Gwendolyn Crawford (John Lee) 
of Pearlington, Miss.; her brother, Randy Crawford (Teresa Crawford) of Slidell; 
her close and devoted friend, Roosevelt Wise Sr.; three nieces, Kiara Crawford, 
Randi Crawford and Charda Crawford; one great niece, Mia Filyaw; three 
godchildren, Randi Crawford, Qu'von Charles and Kobe Square; her Aunt Doris 
(godmother) and Virgil Williams Jr. (godfather); and a host of other relatives 
and friends.

Mr. Donald "Duck" Dupree was called to rest Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at 
Northshore Regional Medical Center at the age of 66.

He leaves to mourn his memory, his loving devoted wife, Paulette Durpree; son, 
Donald; and five daughters, Dionne, Detreall, Antoinette, Deidre and Emelda. 
Donald will truly be missed by all that knew him.

Beulah Terry Thomas Kiesling, 97, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010.

She was the mother of Gary Thomas, Ronald Thomas, and Gay T. Meyers; daughter of 
the late Clifford and Julia Terry; sister of Julia Arnold and the late Ethel 
Williams, Joe Terry, Clifford Terry, Fruza deBoisblanc, Blanche Hartman, Thomas 
Terry, and Gwinette Brumfield. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 14 
great-grandchildren.

She was a native of Kentwood and a longtime resident of New Orleans, Chalmette, 
Mandeville and a resident of Slidell for the past two years.

Memorial services will be held at noon Friday at the Grace Memorial Baptist 
Church, 58516 Pearl Acres Road, Slidell.

Linda Yvonne Bender Knoch, 57, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at 10:57 a.m. 
in Slidell Memorial Hospital following complications from a severe stroke.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Carl Bender and Elizabeth 
Yvonne Daffan Bender.

She is survived by her beloved husband, James Louis Knoch Jr. of Pearl River; 
three children, James Louis Knoch III, Lynnette Michelle Knoch Powell and Lynn 
Marie Knoch; three grandchildren, Steven Powell, Devin Powell and Blake Gosha; 
her sister, Cynthia Lee Bender Orlando of River Ridge; her brother-in-law, 
Anthony F. Orlando; nieces, Cindi Orlando Lachney and Tiffany Orlando; and 
nephew, Eric Orlando.

A native of Jefferson Parish, Linda resided in Pearl River for the last 30 
years.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by everyone 
that knew her.

Lawrence A. Lind, 68, of New Orleans, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at his 
home in New Orleans.

He was the beloved husband of Emilie M. Lind for the past 48 years; father of 
Yvonne L. Frey and her husband Ronald J. Frey Jr.; son of the late Andrew C. 
Lind and Freda Voss Lind; brother of Mary Weidenbacher, Carol Gemar and the late 
Charles Lind Jr. He is also also survived by two grandchildren, Jonathon Frey 
and Angelynne Frey; and one great-grandson, Vincent Frey.

He was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans. Mr. Lind was a retired 
welder for Schaller Steel Company of New Orleans.

(May 31, 1925 - January 14, 2010)

U.S. Veteran Raymond Wesley Moore, retired CMSGT United States Air Force, 
arrived in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 14, 
2010.

He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Elaine; four of his children, Karen, 
John, Perry and Rodger; his sister, Mary; brother, Alex; 12 grandchildren; 7 
great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. His daughter Julie 
and brother Bob welcomed him home after his exciting 84 year journey.

Ray was born and raised in Minden, Ontario Canada where he served 4 1Ś2 years in 
the Royal Canadian Air Force prior to joining the United States Air Force and 
becoming a citizen of the United States. During his career in the USAF, CMSGT, 
Moore served with Defense Mapping Agency, Cartographer Technical Squadron, March 
AFB, CA and other duty stations around the world. After 30 years of patriotic 
service in the USAF, Ray worked for Civil Service 11 years prior to retiring 
from the work force in 1989. He proudly held a bachelor's degree, a pilot's 
license, as well as membership in the Masonic Lodge. 

He was a faithful worshiper of our Lord Jesus Christ at St. Peter Catholic 
Church in Covington, LA. 

He was well loved and respected by all those who knew him. He left a marvelous 
legacy that will positively impact the future for generations to come.

Services will be at a future date.

Charles Joseph George Sr., 91, of Slidell, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of the late Myrtle Lois Harris George; father of 
Charles J. George Jr., Gloria Lois George, Myrtle Lois George and Rose Marie 
George; son of the late Charles George and Mary Abraham George; brother of the 
late Nicholas, Michael, Paul, Joseph, Eddie, Anna, Amelia, Irene and Corinne. He

and a great-grandson, Alexander Scaglione.

He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1993, Mr. George 
served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

HARPER

Barbara Ann Crawford Harper, the wife of the late Robert Harper, former mayor of 
Pearl River, died Tuesday Jan. 12, 2010, at the age of 72.

She was a board member of the St. Tammany Parish Mosquito Control since 1987 
until the onset of health problems last year. She assumed the position on the 
board when the seat was vacated by her husband. She was a former employee of 
Stennis Space Center, the U.S. Postal Service, the town of Pearl River, 
Champagne Jewelers, and was most recently employed by her son Clay Harper as a 
bookkeeper.

She was the daughter of the late Levi and Anabel Crawford. She was a graduate of 
Slidell High School in the Class of 1958.

She is survived by four children, Robert Harper Jr. "Bobby," Tim Harper, Cheryl 
Harper Sanford and Clay Harper. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Tim 
Harper Jr., Levi Sanford, Phillip Harper, Tiffany Harper, Jett Sanford, Caitlyn 
Harper and Chase Harper; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Harper, Bella 
Harper and Wyatt Harper. She was the sister of Mike Crawford and Linda Crawford 
Power Soeller.

She was the captain of the first Pearl River Mardi Gras parade, a member of the 
Pearl River Women's Civic Club and Eastern Star and a member of the Pearl River 
First Baptist Church.

A wake will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the home of her son, Clay, at The Olde 
Hickory Plantation, 67390 Milton Craddock Road. There will be a funeral service 
at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Pearl River on U.S. Highway 11.

She was a member of Pearl Hickory Baptist Church of Pearl River and worked for 
the Louisiana Tourist Information for many years.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel and wife Holly Pinterick, David McKenzie 
and Derek and wife Wendy McKenzie; daughter, Patricia Astorga; brothers, Malcolm 
and Charlie W. Crain; and sister, Louise Dillon. She is also survived by nine 
grandchildren, Kelly, Erica, Ariana McKenzie, Nicholas and Cole Pinterick, 
Darren Adams, Ashley Byars, Scotty and Brian Astorga; and three great-

Maurice Charles Bersuder Sr., 82, passed away Thursday, Jan.14, 2010. He is also

his siblings, Robert and Joey Bersuder, Thelma DiMaio and Marie Hezeau. He was 
the loving and devoted father of Mary T. Bersuder, Maurice C. Bersuder Jr. 
(Lisa), Mark D. Bersuder, Sr. (Barbara), and Maureen Bersuder-Mitchell (Robert).

He was a native of New Orleans, a former longtime resident of St. Bernard and 
resident of Pearl River for the past 14 years. As a young man, he served in the 
Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a very proud member of the 
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers L.U. 130 for over 62 years.

He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Stephen G. Borstad, the beloved husband of Edna M. Borstad and a longtime 
resident of Fairhope, Ala., recently of Slidell, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 
2010. 

He was born on April 6, 1912, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Nicholas A. and Marie 
Harholdt Borstad. His mother passed away in his infancy and his up-bringing was 
largely influenced by loving maternal aunts, uncle and grandfather in St. Paul, 
Minn.

He put himself through college working as a surveyor for the Minnesota Highway 
Department. He was a 1936 graduate of Macalester College in St. Paul where he 
met and in 1938 married Dorathy Johnson. Together they raised two sons, Stephen 
Jr. of Spokane, Wash., and Thomas of Centennial, Colo.

Following college graduation he joined the Travelers Insurance Company where he 
served for 36 years in underwriting, marketing, and management positions in St. 
Paul, Toledo, Ohio, Grand Rapids, Mich., South Bend, Ind., Omaha, Neb., and St. 
Louis, Mo., ultimately rising to an executive position as a regional director in 
the company's home office in Hartford, Conn.

Following the passing of his wife and retirement from The Travelers, he married 
Edna Peterson of West Hartford, Conn., in 1978. The couple moved to Aiken, S.C., 
where Mr. Borstad was a successful real estate broker. In 1991 Mr. Borstad again 
retired and the couple relocated to Fairhope, Ala. A devout Episcopalian he 
became an ordained deacon and served as associate minister at St. Francis at the 
Point Episcopal Church in Point Clear, Ala., a position he held until recently.

He is survived by his beloved wife Edna; his two sons; two grandchildren, Mark 
and Scott Borstad, both of San Francisco, Calif.; stepchildren Allan Peterson of 
Florida, Craig Peterson of Colorado, and Nancy Peterson Westfall of Louisiana; 
two stepgrandchildren, one great-grandchild, 13 stepgreat-grandchildren and 
several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at 11 a.m. at St. Francis at the 
Point Episcopal Church in Point Clear, Ala. A private internment will take place 
at The Memorial Prayer Garden at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell.

Christopher Gerard Condon, born June 27, 1997, 12, died peacefully at home 
Monday, Jan. 11, 2010. 

He is the son of Alison and Robert Condon, the brother of Matthew and Michael. A 
life long resident of Slidell, he attended Lake Castle North Private School, 
where he was a member of the chess club, beta club, Cub Scouts, and drama club. 
He was consistently on the honor roll. 

Thank you to the teachers, staff, and especially the principal for the support 
and love shown him throughout his life. Christopher was a member of several swim 
teams, including the Pinewood Porpoises and the Hurricanes swim teams. His 
accomplishments on these produced several records in his age group, and he was 
the 8-year-old regional champion in 2005. Thank you to his coaches for believing 
in him and delighting in his abilities. He played baseball with the St. John of 
the Cross Cardinals, a year-round team, from 2003 to 2005, and entered the World 
Series with them in 2005. He earned the Most Valuable Player honor on his 
birthday during a mud fest of a tournament. Thank you to the coaches and the 
team for keeping him in your hearts as you went on to greater victories.

Christopher was a member of St. John of the Cross Church, where he made his 
First Communion and participated on the altar many times. Thank you to the 
members of the parish and especially Father Gil and Deacon Ricky for your 
unceasing prayers and hope. He had a tremendous group of friends through school 
and scouting who loved him and rallied around him unfalteringly. Thank you to 
them and their parents for their friendship. Christopher was an honorary member 
of the Krewe of Dionysius, and rode as their Grand Marshall during Mardi Gras 
2006. He was well traveled, having been to Hawaii, California, Florida, Texas, 
Mississippi and Tennessee. He loved the beach and the sunshine.

Christopher is survived by his parents, Alison and Robert, his brothers, Matthew 
and Michael, his dog, Happy, and his cat, Pancake. He is also survived by his 
maternal grandparents, Sylvia Otto and Louis Otto; his uncles and aunts, Richard 
and Beth Otto, Stephen and Joy Otto, Kevin Otto, and Daniel Otto. He is also 
survived by his cousin, Marissa Maus, and his great-aunt, Joel Lacrouts. He was 
preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ray and Yvonne Condon, and his 
uncles, Ray Condon and William Condon.

Memorial services will be held at his parish church starting with a Mass at 4

Fairhope, Ala., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Elise Naef "Memise" Danielson of Fairhope; 
daughter, Memise Burslem of Folsom; son, Bertil Emile Danielson of Fairhope; 
daughter, Lou Ella Danielson Stewart of Asheville, N.C.; sister, Ada Danielson 
Dahlsten of Lindsborg, Kan.; grandchildren, Susan Naef Danielson, Amalie Kammer 
Danielson, Rosta Burslem, Cequila Burslem Meyers, Paul Emile Burslem, John 
Ashworth "Tobe" Burslem, Jr., Aimee' Burslem Thiel; 13 great-grandchildren and

Johnny C. Doll Sr., 61, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.

Johnny or "Stump" is survived by two children, Brandi Clark and Johnny Doll Jr.; 
his parents Robert and Norma Doll; one brother Robert Doll Jr.; and a son-in-law 
Jarvis Clark. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Alexandria Clark and 
Darian Clark plus nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

He was a native of New Orleans, and a resident of Slidell for the past 40 years.

Mr. Doll was U.S. Marine Corp veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was an 
employee for many years of Dalton Steamship Co. in New Orleans, before going 
into private contracting. Johnny was a special man, loved by many, and will be 
forever missed by his parents, children, grandchildren, and all who knew him.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral.

Military funeral honors will be given at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Honaker Funeral 
Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell.

Friends may visit at the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m.

Ivory "Butte" Jordan III was born in New Orleans Oct. 21, 1963, to Ivory Jordan 
Jr. and Liza Ordoyne Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ivory Jordan Sr. and Mary Ducre 
Jordan of Slidell, and June Ordoyne and Lucy Ordoyne of Lacombe. Butte graduated 
from Mandeville High School in the summer of 1981. He played football and ran 
track for Mandeville High. He worked in the construction industry for over 25 
years.

Butte leaves to cherish his memory four children, Leigh Raniece and Reanne 
Marie, both of Sacramento, Calif., Irish Denise and Ivory IV of Denver, Colo.; 
two brothers, Farrell Jordan of Fayetteville, N. C., and Michael Jordan of 
Lacombe. He also leaves to mourn his passing a host of other relatives and 
friends.

Services will be held Monday at Doyle's Funeral Home, 2430 Fourth St., Slidell. 
Interment will be in Green Cemetery.

Ava Jo Krolak, 78, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Joseph Krolak; mother of two daughters 
Deborah Krolak Diecidue and Janet Krolak Howard; daughter of the late Joe and 
Maggie Ethridge; and sister of Ann Allday and the late Owanna Boyette and Mary 
Dean. She is also survived by three grandchildren Brad Diecidue, Ashley 
Diecidue, and April Howard, and six great-grandchildren Brandon Jones, Lauren 
Jones, Missy Jones, Joseph Diecidue, Anthony Diecidue, and Nicholas Diecidue.

She was a native of Union, Miss., and a resident of Slidell since 1957. She was, 
along with her husband John, owner of Slidell Bicycle Shop for 30 years. She was 
a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell, and a member of Eastern Star 
Lakeshore Chapter 59. She retired from Sears Roebuck and Co. in 2003.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of 
Slidell, 4141 Pontchartrain Drive, Slidell. Private burial of ashes will be held 
at a later date.

Ernee Authement Kluchin, after a short illness went to her home of eternal rest 
with Our Lord on Monday, January 18, 2010 at the age of 77.

Beloved wife of 58 years to John Ronald Kluchin. Loving mother of Ronald John 
Kluchin M.D. and wife, Suzie S. Kluchin, Kathy Kluchin Barrois and husband 
Dennis J. Barrois, Laure Kluchin Rouse, and Karen Kluchin-Song. Daughter of the 
late Aminth Latour Authement and Ernest J. Authement. Sister of Mary Lee A. 
Cavalier and the late Gloria A. Snow and Raymond M. Authement. Grandmother of 
Allison Lloyd, Nicole Kluchin, Stacey Barrois, Timothy Rouse II, and Brittany 
Rouse.

Ernee was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Abita Springs since 2005. 
She will be sadly missed by her family and all those whose lives she touched.

Therese Schembeck Kryjak, was raised in Hempstead, NY and has been a resident of 
Louisiana since 1977.

The beloved husband of Linda Mastronardi Kryjak, he is survived by his daughter, 
Emily K. Riggs; two brothers, John T. and Gregory E. Kryjak and three 
grandchildren: Jackson Herschel, Thomas Jacob and Lilly Suzanne Riggs.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 24, 2010 at E.J. Fielding Funeral

Frank Eugene McKnight, Jr., a retired Bell South engineer, died January 18, 
2010. He was the son of the late Inez Estopinal McKnight and Frank E. McKnight, 
Sr., brother of the late Patrick A. McKnight and grandfather of the late Timothy 
Michael McKnight. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Bobbie) Prather McKnight; 
six sons, Kevin F. McKnight, Sr. and wife, Marilyn of Folsom; Brian McKnight and 
wife, Denise of Metairie; David W. McKnight and wife, Liz of Garland, Texas; 
Patrick N. McKnight, Sr. and wife, Karen; Douglas P. McKnight all of Covington; 
Frank E. McKnight, III and wife, Lacey of River Ridge; and one daughter, Beth 
McKnight Legett and husband, David of Mobile, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren 
and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Carol McKnight 
Daigle and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. McKnight was 81 years old, born in New Orleans and resided in Covington 
since 1979. He was a graduate of Holy Cross High School and Loyola University. 
He also attended Loyola Law School. He served in the Navy and Merchant Marines 
at the end of World War II. He was a coordinator of Civil Defense in Jefferson 
Parish and served as an officer in the Auxiliary Police Program. In 1977 he was 
elected president of the Southeast Louisiana E.M.S. Council. Mr. McKnight was 
also elected Democratic Committeeman-At-Large during the Carter Administration. 
He taught CPR and first aid with the Red Cross, and taught Junior Achievement.

Upon moving to Covington, he served as an officer with both the St. Tammany 
Parish Deputy Reserve and the Covington Police Reserve. He established a 
training school for Reserve Police. He was on the board of the St. Tammany 
parish Fair Association and served as President and Vice-President. He was a 
member of St. Peter Parish and Knights of Columbus.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral mass from

Juanita Cauthen Dozier passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the age of

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Elmo Dozier, and 
three sisters, Jimmie Jordan, Lorraine Rouse, and Beulah Kersh.

daughters, Brenda, Susan, and Melanie, five sisters, 26 grandchildren, and 48

Gillum (Barbara), Isiah Gillum, Percy Gillum (Elwin) and Ronald Gillum; and 
sisters, Shirley Pinkens (Robert), Christine Gillum, Carolyn Jones and Mae 
Sylvas (Alvin). She was loved and will be missed by two grandchildren, Joseph 
and Jalyn DeRoger; and one great-granddaughter, Alana Shalyn DeRoger. She is 
also survived by sisters-in-law; Edna D. Smith, Mary Rose Celestine, Agnes D. 
Gesserand, Doris Theresa Dundy, Ann D. Volta, Marjorie D. Martin and Mary Ellen 
Norwood (George) as well as Kelia, Kalobe, Kalin, Kabrin, Keyon and Kenneth 
Gillum which she loved and raised as her own children. She also loved and raised 
many others as her own children including Ferman Gillum, Candatha Burnett, 
Turquoise Gillum and Rosalind Campers. She will be sadly missed by numerous 
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Gillum and Bernadine Jones 
Gillum; brother J.W. Gillum; and sister, Marie Tolbert. She was a member of 
Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church of Slidell.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Irene Beech Mozingo. 

He is survived by his son, Roy Coleman Mozingo; daughter, Jutta Mozingo of 
Longview, TX; two step-daughters, Patsy Pearson of Mandeville, LA and Charlotte 
Wascom of Pearl River; one grandson, Kerry Wascom; one great-granddaughter, 
Abygail Wascom of Mandeville, LA; one daughter-in-law, Ruby Mozingo. He was 
preceded in death by four brothers, John H., Billy Ray of Laurel, MS, Walter 
Gray "WG", and Harold Bond "Juber" of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Gertrude

He was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran having served in France and Germany.

Age 46 years, she was native of Alton, Illinois and a resident of Covington, LA 
for the past 30 years. A retired registered nurse, Tracy attended U.N.O. and 
graduated from Southeastern School of Nursing. She practiced at Ochsner Hospital 
and Charity Trama Center in New Orleans and Hancock Medical Center in Biloxi, 
MS.

Noel M. Bennett, 52, of Bush, passed away Wednesday Jan. 20, 2010.

He is survived by his daughter, Karington Brackney; his parents, Antoinette and

Sidney C. Bennett, 74, of Lacombe, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010. He was a 
past Master of Level Lodge No. 373 F&AM and a deacon of First Baptist Church of 
Lacombe.

He is survived by his adopted children, George and Vicki Swenson; five 
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; his aunt, Lois Benge Keller; cousins, 
Barey and Julie Keller, Albert and Alice Benge, Maggie Byers, Jessie Andrus and 
Charlotte Stuart Andrus. He will be missed by his longtime childhood friend of 
more than 65 years, Harry Boylan.

Elizabeth Perez Blakeman, 87 years young, of Slidell, passed away at home 
Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was beloved mother of Donna Reeves and Debbi King; beloved mother-in-law of 
Jack King; mother of Ward Blakeman and the late Michael Blakeman; daughter of 
the late Joseph and Lucy Malone Perez; sister of Lucy Lintinger Silcio, Joan 
Styron, and Joseph Perez. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael 
Blakeman, Corrine Blakeman Aertker, Christine Blakeman, Bryan King, Jeffrey 
King, Keith Reeves, and the late Melanie Blakeman and 10 great-grandchildren. 
She was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell 
for the past four years. Blakeman was an employee of K & B in New Orleans East 
for more than 25 years.

Silas J. "S.J" Harrison, 81, a native of Slidell, passed away Thursday Jan. 14, 
2010, at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

He was the son of the late Stephen Alexander and Lucreacy Smith Harrison and 
beloved husband of the late Lela Hart Harrison. He was preceded in death by 
daughters, Patricia Peterson and Debra Sampson, and four siblings.

He is survived by children, Silas Nathaniel, Malcolm, Ronald, Gwendolyn Lefreche 
and Elise Harrison Stovall; 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-
great-grandchild and eight siblings.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at Hartzell Mt. Zion United Methodist

Nancy Ward Kennington, 77, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at 
Trinity Neurological Rehabilitation Center in Slidell.

She was the beloved wife of the late Millard P. Kennington Sr. for 41 years; 
mother of Joyce K. Gumbert and husband Robert of Marietta, Ga., M. Paul 
Kennington and wife Toni of Lake Jackson, Texas, Mason P. Kennington and wife 
Donna of Dunwoody, Ga., Clare R. Randell and husband Keith of Bush and Jean K. 
Roueche and late husband Lee of Slidell and daughter of the late Virgil Ward and 
Annie Small Ward. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.

She was a native of Thomasville, N.C., a former resident of Orlando, Fla., and a 
resident of Slidell since 1972, Mrs. Kennington was a charter member of Peace 
Lutheran Church of Slidell, a member of Lakeshore Chapter 59 Order of Eastern 
Star/Worthy Matron, Westchester Estate Garden Club, Slidell Heritage Green and 
Beautiful Greater Slidell Council of Garden Clubs Inc., Christmas Under The 
Stars, avid bridge player and member of Krewe of Perseus of Slidell.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Peace Lutheran Church, 1320 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell. A

Christopher Paul Loup, 38, of Kentwood, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009.

He was born June 3, 1971, in Marrero the son of Wade Joseph and Betty Walden 
Loup. He operated a tree removal service and attended Lee Road Pentecostal 
Church in Covington.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Loup is survived by his wife, Angella Loup, and 
daughter, Christian Loup both of Kentwood; three brothers, Brad Loup of 
Tylertown, Miss., Chad Loup of Mt. Hermon and Wade Loup of Folsom.

Funeral services were held Jan. 5 at Capps Funeral Home Chapel in Tylertown. 
Interment was in the Tylertown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charlie Canizaro, 
Chester Dillon, David Blank, Trey Love, Gabe Babin, Gary Loup and Howard Walden. 
Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Walden, Blake Loup, Gatlin Loup and Gunnar 
Loup.

MABRY

LaVada Fontenot Mabry, 50, of Pearl River, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010. 
She was a barmaid at her father's bar, "The Silver Fox" and also a waitress at 
South Seas Restaurant for many years. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting afghans 
and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed going to the casino and spending 
lots of time with her kids, her wonderful grandchildren who referred to her as 
their, "Lil' Mawmaw," and her soul mate whom she always called, "Sweetie." 
Family and friends have also lovingly nicknamed her, "Madea."

She is survived by two sons, Jason Louis Mabry and Matthew Lucas Ellis; 
daughter, Jada Lynn Mabry; husband, Mitchell K. Ellis; and two grandchildren, 
Abigail Lee Mabry and Alexis Lynn Schick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber J. Fontenot and Earlene 
Bergeron.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at D.T. Williams Funeral Home, 67525 Louisiana 
Highway 41. Pearl River, with Sister Bessie Reynolds officiating. Visitation

Poplarville, Miss. He was a member of Peace Grove Baptist Church in Lacombe. He 
served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years. He was a member of the American

He is survived by his wife, Debbie J. Maddox of Poplarville; two daughters, Mary

Lacombe; son Joseph P. "Jay" Jurczak III of Slidell; stepson Jonathan W. Toler 
of Poplarville; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived 
by Boudreaux Maddox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Jurczak and Ruth Yeager 
Jurczak.

Olive Jewell Randle died peacefully at the age of 85 Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, 
while resting at home. She was in the founding class of 1943 at Louise S McGehee 
School in New Orleans where she was born and raised.

She owned Randle Realty with her husband and loved sailing and gardening.

Olive stayed busy, never complained, and was always generous.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; and her oldest son, Madden.

Survivors include her son, Malcolm "Buster" Randle; grandchildren, James Randle, 
Ainsley Randle and Ronnell Chappetta; and great-grandsons, James, Christopher, 
Brandon, Cody and Tristan.

A memorial gathering was held yesterday at 347 Faciane Lane, Slidell. In lieu of 
flowers, a contribution to Alzheimer's research would be appreciated.

Jenny Burnam Sapp, 64, of Cochran, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010. She 
was born in Miami, the daughter of the late Robert Wootson Burnam and Montie 
Phagan Burnam. She was a graduate of Eastman High School. She was a resident of 
Slidell before moving to Cochran in 2006. She was a homemaker, loving wife, 
mother and gentle soul.

She is survived by her husband Jerry R. Sapp of Cochran; daughter Karissa West 
of Charleston, S.C.; son Greg and wife Tammy Sapp, of Check, Va.; grandchildren 
Lauren and Kelsey Sapp of Check; sisters, Iris and husband Hughie Peacock of 
Anderson S.C., Bobbie and husband Ruben Brown of Hawksville, Ga., Peggy Jenkins 
of Columbia, Mo., Brenda Griswold of Slidell; Montie and husband Donnie Muennink 
of Fort Worth, Texas; and brother, Robert Burnam of Fort Smith, Ark.

Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at Fisher Funeral Home, Cochran, Ga., with the 
Rev. Ken Brooks officiating. She was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Eastman, 
Ga., beside her dear mother.

U.S. Veteran John Nelson Bickers, M.D., born August 30, 1930, passed away Monday 
January 25, 2010 at the age of 79.

Dr. Bickers was the beloved husband of Mary Phelps Bickers; father of Joan Karen 
Bickers Dearing of Mandeville, LA, John Michael Bickers of North Palm Beach, FL, 
and David Nelson Bickers of White Plains, GA; son of the late Bessie Southard 
Bickers and Joseph W. Bickers of White Plains, GA, grandfather of Paul Tyler 
Dearing, Casey Elizabeth Dearing, Catherine Elaine Dearing, Justin Michael 
Bickers and Hunter Austin Bickers; step grandfather of Andrea Lowe Bickers and 
Lenzy Barber; father in law of Mark Dearing, Judy Lowe Bickers and Denise 
Bradley Bickers; brother in law of Helen Phelps Mims and Dr. George T. Mims.

He was born in Stokesdale, NC, grew up in White Plains, GA and has resided in 
Louisiana since 1957, most recently in Covington, LA at Christwood Retirement 
Community. Dr. Bickers was a 1950 graduate of the University of Georgia in 
Athens, and a 1954 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta. He 
served a one year internship at City Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was a Medical 
Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service in Washington, D.C. for two years, 
before beginning a residency in Internal Medicine at the Veterans Administration 
Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He remained on the staff at the V.A. Hospital, in 
the Chest Disease Section for one year, and then joined the faculty at the LSU 
Medical Center in New Orleans in 1961. There he founded the Department of 
Medicine, the Section of Hematology and Oncology, and was its Director for 30 
years. He directed the construction of the Leukemia unit at Charity Hospital in 
New Orleans and was its Medical Director for 20 years. Dr. Bickers was also 
Director of the Medical Oncology Fellowship program for over 20 years. He 
conducted clinical research, directed mainly at improving treatment in patients 
with cancer and he was the author or co-author of over 40 publications. He 
attained the academic rank of Professor of Medicine and was certified in 
Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. Dr. Bickers retired from the full time 
faculty in 1998, but continued to work on a part time basis until 2005.

Dr. Bickers was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Metairie, LA and 
belonged to many medical organizations. One in particular was the Southwest 
Oncology Group of which he was a member from 1965 to 1998. He was a Fellow in 
the American College of Physicians, and a member of The American Society of 
Hematology, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Family and friends, members of John Calvin Presbyterian Church, and former 
associates from LSU Medical Center are invited to attend a "Celebration of Life" 
Memorial Service on Saturday January 30th, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m., in the Garden 
Room at Christwood Retirement Community, 100 Christwood Blvd., Covington, LA

A brief remembrance ceremony and prayer will be conducted by Rev. Robert E.

George Louis Mayer, Jr. passed away January 25, 2010 at the age of 84.

Mr. Mayer was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Covington for over 30 
years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and received numerous 
commendations while serving in the Philippines on the U.S.S. LCI (R) 337.

He is survived by his loving companion Patty Turner, son Michael Mayer and wife 
Mickey, son Steven Mayer and wife Ramona, daughter Nancy Mayer, and son David 
Mayer. He is also survived by grand-daughters Harmony Mayer, Amanda Fender, 
Ashley Smith, and Abbey Mayer, and great-grandsons Harris and Hunter Fender. Son 
of the late Lillian and George Mayer, Sr., he was preceded in death by his 
brother Francis Mayer, S.J., and sister Lillian Zimmer.

Funeral services were held on January 27, 2010 at the E.J. Fielding Funeral 
Home, Covington, LA.

Mary Celeste Fieldsman Roth passed away on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the age 
of 79. 

Mary was a native of New Orleans, LA. and a resident of Slidell, LA. 

Beloved wife of the late Andrew Julius Roth Jr. Mother of Sue Roth Eiserloh and 
the late Wayne Louis Roth Sr. Daughter of the late Mary Laumann and Henry P. 
Fieldsman. Grandmother of Troy A. Pridemore, Tommy J. Eiserloh, Wayne Louis Roth 
Jr., Carl King and the late Ashley McDonald. Godmother of Cheryl Satter.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at First United 
Methodist Church, 433 Erlanger Street, Slidell, LA 70458 on Tuesday, February 2, 
2010 at 10:00 am. Visitation at church from 9:30 am until service time.

Jane Peacock Williams passed away on Monday, January 25, 2010, surrounded by her 
family. 

She was the beloved wife of Legwin (Willie) Williams, and the loving mother of 
Chris Houk, Kelly Balser and her husband, Doug Balser. She is also survived by 
her precious grandchildren Ashleigh Tomlinson, Erik Hebert, and Kylah Houk, as 
well as her sisters, Gail Adams and Joy Peacock, and many other friends and 
family. Daughter of the late William and Evelyn Peacock, she was 69, a native of 
New Orleans, and a resident of Oak Island, NC for the past 23 years. The family 
would like to thank Journey Hospice for all of their support and kindness.

William H. "Bill" Byrd Jr., 73, of Slidell, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, 
at his home in Slidell.

He was the beloved husband of Marilyn D. Byrd for the past 52 1/2 years; father 
of Michael S. Byrd and wife Juli, Mark W. Byrd and wife Sandra of Spring, Texas, 
and Gregory W. Byrd; son of the late William and Bessie Byrd; brother of Ida 
Angelo of Hazelton, Pa., and the late P.H. Byrd and O.L. Byrd.

He is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren; Jessica, Morgan, Melanie, 
Garrett and Miranda Byrd. 

He was a native of Amarillo, Texas, and a resident of Slidell for 28 years. Mr. 
Byrd, affectionately known as "Pops," was retired from Shell Pipeline Co. of 
Houston and New Orleans. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. In addition to 
enjoying his grandchildren, Pops was an avid sailor. 

The family of Mr. Byrd would like to thank Dr's Miguel Culasso, Anthony 
Albright, Michael Karam, Dale Leblanc and all the nurses and staff of Northshore 
Regional Medical Center for all their love and support over the past 16 months.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from 5 
- 8 p.m. today and again from noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Honaker Funeral 
Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W., Slidell. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with

Geraldine "Gerry" LaFerrara, 81, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Ochsner 
Foundation Hospital in Jefferson.

She was the beloved wife of Charles LaFerrara for the past 55 years; mother of 
Karen L. Doyle and husband Frank, Anne Marie LaFerrara, Peter T. LaFerrara and 
wife Robin and Michael C. LaFerrara and wife Lisa; daughter of the late Mack and 
Callie Napier; grandmother of Jennifer (Robert), Brian, Tiffany (J.D.), Steve, 
Caitlyn, Melissa, Alyssa, Meaghan, Charles, Cyle, Matthew, Catherine and Domi-
nic and great-grandmother of Sophie and Madeline. She is also survived by 
brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

She was a native of Blue Diamond, Ky., and a resident of Slidell, since 1972. 
Gerry was a retired aide for handicapped children in St. Tammany Parish.

TOLIS

Arthur Tolis, 79, of Slidell, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2010.

He is survived by his beloved wife Julie Brennan Tolis; four children, Alexis 
Stone, her husband Bob Stone, Todd Tolis, his wife Karen Dixon Tolis, 
PatriciaTolis Snider, her husband Dustin Snider , Joseph Tolis and his wife 
Jenny Farley Tolis; a sister-in-law: Demetra Tolis, and five grandchildren: 
Adeline Tolis, Kadin and Kalyssa Tolis, Lauren and Tyler Snider.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alexandra Tolis, and a 
brother Peter Tolis.

Mr. Tolis was born and raised in New Britain, Conn. He was an all-state player 
in high school and went on to play center at George Washington University. He 
was named to the All-Southern Conference Team before joining the U.S. Army, and 
serving his country in the Korean War. After the service, he played another two 
years at Central Connecticut. He started coaching in Florida, and went on to 
coach at East Carolina, Western Kentucky, LSU, Tennessee-Martin, and the 
University of Alabama, before becoming assistant and then head basketball coach 
at University of New Orleans from 1985 to 1989. He was a teacher in Jefferson 
Parish for 12 years and retired in 2008. He touched many people's lives and will 
forever be remembered for his huge heart and his beautiful charm and spirit.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at 1 p.m. Friday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn

Jerry Busby, 61, of Lacombe, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of Susan Busby; father of James Willis, Stacy 
Moffett, Bentley Busby and the late Jerri-Ann Busby; and son of the late James 
and Martha Busby. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight brothers 
and sisters.

He was a native of Sebastopol, Miss., and a resident of Lacombe for the past 29 
years. He will be sadly missed by all.

Martha Lee Joseph Ducre, 78, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at her home in 
Slidell surrounded by her family. 

She was born in Bonfuca and was retired after 35 years of service with the St. 
Tammany Parish School Board office at Brock Elementary. She was one of the 
founding members of the Pentecost Baptist Church, which she served faithfully 
for 48 years.

She was the wife of Raymond Ducre for 61 years; the mother of Marian (Samuel) 
Sams, Lester Ducre, LuVerta Ducre, Geraldine (Alfred) Winzy, Rosa Ree Ducre 
Miller, Ronnie Ducre and Thelmas (Thomas) Ducre-Jefferson. She was the 
grandmother of 25, great-grandmother of 34 and great-great-grandmother of one.

There will be a wake at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Pentecost Missionary Baptist 
Church, 36138 Shady Lane, Slidell. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday 
with the Rev. Gary Wood officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Interment 
will be at Green Cemetery on Fenner Road.

Lynn C. Graham, 56, of Slidell, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at Slidell 
Memorial Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of Lester L. Graham for the past 21 years; mother of 
Desiree L. Graham and Angele J. Graham and daughter of Augustus John "A.J." 
Woniger and Carolyn Hinkle. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, 
nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 31 years. 
Lynn was an aide on handicapped school busses throughout St. Tammany Parish. She 
was an avid collector of Monty Python DVD's and a fan of Sponge Bob Square 
Pants.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services 
at noon tomorrow at Ridge Memorial Baptist Church, 55115 Apple Pie Ridge Road, 
Slidell. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until noon. Interment will 
be private.

Frederick Cleary Grieshaber M.D., was born May 27, 1919, in New Orleans where he 
was a resident until moving to Covington in 1983 and remained until his death 
Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene Brown Grieshaber; three sons, 
James Frederick (Aleen), Bruce George (Kathleen) and Robert John (Louise); eight 
grandchildren, Jimmy, Eric, Jill, Bruce, Scott, Keith, Emily and Glen; and five 
great-grandchildren. 

Preceding him in death were his parents, Frederick Grieshaber and Margaret 
Cleary Grieshaber; one brother, Dr. Bernard Grieshaber; and one sister, Margaret 
Grieshaber Martin. 

He graduated from LSU School of Medicine in 1942 and immediately served in World 
War II. He practiced dermatology in private practice, was associate professor of 
dermatology at both LSU and Tulane Medical Schools and was a past president of 
the Louisiana State Dermatological Society. He served as the chief of 
dermatology at the V.A. Medical Center from 1966 until his retirement in 1981. 
He then joined his son in private practice in Covington.

He enjoyed "trailoring," was a longtime member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club 
and served as past president of the Greater New Orleans Airstream Club.

All funeral services were private with interment in St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery. 
Memorials for Dr. Grieshaber may be made to St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, 
Covington, LA 70435.

Thomas Anthony "Tony" Hodo, 40, of Slidell, passed away at his home in Slidell. 

Tony was born June 17, 1969 in Augusta, Ga., and resided in Slidell since 1983. 
Tony was a graduate of Northshore High School in Slidell and attended 
Southeastern Louisiana University where he was a member of the KDT Fraternity.

He was the beloved son of Marshall and Gloria Taylor and Tommy and Lynn Hodo. He 
is survived by his twin brother William "Billy" Hodo and wife Rhonda; sister, 
Marsha Henkhaus and late husband Stephen; sister, Cobi Schmidt and husband 
Christian; brother, Nathan Taylor and wife Bridget; brother, Michael Paul Hodo 
and wife Denise; and his late brother Steven Hodo. Nephew of Patricia Haywood 
and husband John. He was the grandson of the late Chessie Knotts and Thomas and 
Mabel Hodo. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

Capt. Mike King (USN) died in Slidell Wednesday, Jan, 27, 2010, at the age of 
63.

He is survived by his loving mother, Margaret King, sister, Vikki Foster, and 
brother Joel King, all of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by his dearest 
friend Deborah Stevens and his church family at First Baptist Church in Slidell.

He was born Dec. 7, 1946, in Clovis, N.M., and moved to Ballinger, Texas, as an 
infant. He received his college degree from the University of Texas. Upon 
graduation, he was admitted to the Naval Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, 
Fla., where he was commissioned as an ensign.

After receiving his wings at NAS Chase Field in the TF-9J Cougar aircraft, he 
was assigned to NAS Lemoore, Calif., for fleet aviation training. Upon 
completion, he was assigned as an A-7E Attack Pilot flying from the flight deck 
of the USS Enterprise where he accumulated 237 day and 96 night carrier arrested 
landings.

After the Vietnam War ended, where he participated in providing air attack cover 
for the evacuation, Capt. King flew for Braniff Airways for two years. He later 
returned to active duty and entered the Navy's C-9B program which provides cargo 
and passenger support. Some of his assignments here included commanding officer 
of VR-62 at NAF Detroit, Mich., airwing commander of Fleet Logistics Support 
Wing at NAS Dallas and commanding officer of the Navy Air Logistics Office in 
New Orleans.

He always attributed his selection to navy captain (0-6) due to the grace of God 
and his people. Additionally, he was assigned to the vice chief of naval 
operations air warfare in the Pentagon and commander of Naval Air Forces 
Atlantic Fleet NAS Norfolk.

After retiring from the Navy, he flew B-747 Aircraft for Atlas Air as a first 
officer transporting cargo internationally. He was based in Miami and mainly 
flew to South America.

He always considered it an honor to reside here in Slidell and was active in 
volunteer duties. He was a volunteer for the First Baptist Church of Slidell, 
Red Cross, Life Songs Christian Radio, Amateur Radio and NorthShore Regional 
Medical Center as an amateur radio operator where he was very active during 
Hurricane Katrina.

His personal organizational memberships included the American Radio and Relay 
League, Ozone Amateur Radio Club in Slidell, Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason at 
Fresno, Calif., and Master Mason at Ballinger Lodge 643. He was also an Eagle 
Scout. Capt. King's military decorations included the Legion of Merit, two 
Meritorious Service Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, Air Force Commendation 
Medal and Navy Achievement Medal, as well as several Unit Citation and Campaign 
Medals for service in Vietnam, Grenada and Southwest Asia.

Private family interment will be at Port Hudson National Cemetery. No flowers 
please.

Contributions may be made to the benevolence fund at First Baptist Church in 
Slidell.

Irvin "Ervin" LeBlanc, 59, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010.

He was the beloved husband of Connie LeBlanc; father of Nicole LeBlanc and Troy 
LeBlanc; son of the late Irvin and Sylvia LeBlanc; son-in-law of Dorothy "Dot" 
Hamann and the late Gerard "Jerry" Hamann and brother of Josie Mouledous, Karen 
Castjohn, Jonelle Foltz, and the late Tommy Lupo. He is also survived by two 
grandchildren, Tyler LeBlanc and Evan LeBlanc.

He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Lacombe for the past 31 years.

Marie Louise Vosbein Tanner Morton passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the age of 81.

Loving mother of Leslie Tanner III, Paulette Tanner Foster, Raymond Tanner, Wayne Tanner, Vernon Tanner, Gregory Tanner and Lindley Tanner. Daughter of the late Mae Wetta Vosbein and Henry Michael Vosbein. Sister of the late Rev. Blaise Vosbein and Pete Vosbein.

She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

She was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans.

Josephine F. Anzelone Horvath, 91, peacefully joined her Lord and husband, John J. Horvath Sr., Friday, Jan. 1, 2010. Originally from New Orleans, she moved to Slidell in 1978.

She was the loving mother of John J.A. Horvath Jr. and Raymond A. Horvath Sr.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kim Michelle Horvath, Raymond A. Horvath Jr. and Amy Horvath Gallimore; and seven great-grandchildren.

A gravesite service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans at 10 a.m. Friday. Masses or contributions to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.

Lawrence "Larry" LeBlanc, a resident of Covington, died Jan.23, 2010, after 11 days to see how the wind currents were before going to Heaven.

He left behind his wife, Elizabeth (Betty); daughter Ann and her husband Bob; son Gerard and his wife, Julie. They will all have to take a later flight. He will be missed by his sister, Mary; grandchildren, Brent, Stacey, Andrea, Stacy, Jennifer and Nicholas and his great-grandchildren Samuel, Michael and Hailey. He is also missed by nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, cousins by the dozen and his flying buddies.

He was born April 1, 1922, April Fool's Day, and he enjoyed a long happy life of 87 years telling jokes.

The celebrations of his life was held yesterday at Falgout's Funeral Home in Raceland. Bagnell and Son Funeral Home in Covington handled the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice in memory of Larry.
