He was born May 25, 1934 in New Orleans to the late Earl Z. and Irma H. Scheuermann and was a long time resident of St. Bernard Parish before moving to Mandeville, LA in 2005. The beloved husband of Carol Partlan Scheuermann, he is survived by nine children: Karen A., Karl L., Jr. (Stephanie), Mark A. (Tricia), Scott M. (Gina), Marie S. Wagner (Sean), Patrick E. (Sarah), Thomas J. (Ana), Michael D. (Chantelle) and Sherri S. Dutreix (Lonnie); his sister, Linda S. Swider (John) and one brother, Carroll P. Scheuermann (Sue). He is also survived by 23 grandchildren: Heidi, Alexis, Chandler, Kelsie, Tyler, Kale, Lonnie, Brett, Evan, Kendall, Julia, Rebecca, Claire, Christina, Amy, Caroline, Colin, Sam, Callie, Matthew, Henry, James, Sally. A graduate of St. Aloysius Catholic School in New Orleans, Karl was a supervisor for Domino Sugar until his retirement in 1990. He served as Justice of the Peace in St. Bernard Parish for many years. He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church in Arabi and then Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mandeville. She was the beloved wife of Donald J. Arroyo; mother of Mark Arroyo and Kim A. Bryant; daughter of the late Prentiss and Era Ellen Lilly; and sister of Willis Lilly and Verlin L. Escot. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Heather Thigpen, Holly Arroyo, Dustin Arroyo, Amanda Thigpen and Tate Bryant; and one great-grandson David Dardar. She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell since 1974. She was a devoted homemaker. A memorial service was held yesterday at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell, with the Rev. Broom, 89, died peacefully at home Monday, March 29, 2010, surrounded by her family after a short illness. She was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell for the past 27 years. She was the daughter of the late Gabriel Daroca and Loretta Lambert; wife of the late Fritz J. Broom Sr., for 57 years; sister of Ovida Kuss and the late Loretta Mayeaux, Gabriel "Gabe" Daroca, Philip "Buddy" Daroca, Rudolph "Rudy" Daroca; mother of Fritz J. Broom Jr. (Victoria Iwa-nowski), Edward L. Broom (Cindy Jones), Richard J. Broom (Peggy Vicknair) and Cathy B. Robinson (Clay Robinson); and stepmother of Earline B. Schulthess (Richard Schulthess). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many more family and friends. She was a longtime member of "Soar" Kaiser Aluminum Retired Workers Club. Rita was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and enjoyed life to the fullest. Her family was her life. Her biggest joy was living to see her great- grandchildren. She loved to spoil them with candy and shower them with attention. The other loves of her life were gardening and cooking. She spent countless hours in her yard tending to her vegetables, flowers, and Mayhaw trees. She then tirelessly turned the fruits of her labor into homemade Mayhaw jellies and jams, which she delighted in giving away to family and friends. It is all of these things and more that she'll be remembered for. She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten, and forever in our hearts. Christine was a lifelong resident of Covington. She was the beloved mother of Jason D. MCDANIEL Dr. Kelvin Paul McDaniel, 50, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at his Covington home. He was born in La Ceiba, Honduras, and has been a resident of the New Orleans area for the past 34 years. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Suzanne "Suzy" Guichard McDaniel; sons Kelvin "Paul" McDaniel Jr. and Michael Ross McDaniel and daughter Kristen Elizabeth McDaniel. He was the beloved son of Gloria Boesch and Alfred Dan McDaniel of Slidell and brother of Alfred D. McDaniel, Gary D McDaniel and identical twin brother Kenneth P. McDaniel. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and many cousins. McDaniel attended Mazapan High School in La Ceiba before graduating from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1978. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering from Tulane School of Medicine in 1982 and his MD from Tulane School of Medicine in 1986. He completed a five-year residency in radiology at Tulane in 1991and a fellowship in body imaging from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston in 1992. McDaniel joined Northlake Radiology and practiced at Slidell Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital in Picayune, Miss., Southern Surgical Hospital and the Louisiana Heart Hospital in addition to handling outpatient duties of MDI in Slidell. He practiced medicine in St. Tammany Parish for 18 years and was revered and respected by colleagues and patients alike. In June 2009, he became ill and was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and bravely and stoically battled the disease up until the time of his death. He will be remembered by family, friends, colleagues and patients as a gentle, dignified, and caring man. A former resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mullen moved to the New Orleans area in 1983. He retired from Textron Marine, and was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Slidell Flotilla No. 081-04-08 for over nine years, as a division and flotilla officer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan D. Mullen; one brother, Wayne Mullen, and his parents: James and Ruth Mullen. He is survived by one sister Marsha Aukerman; four daughters, Stephanie Fudge, Christie Mullen, Deborah Hover and Vickie Brighi; six granddaughters and two great-grandsons. He was the co-owner of Master Tech Dental Laboratory, Inc. of Slidell and was a member of the Slidell Noon Lions Club where he served as the former treasurer and bingo manager. After his retirement, he was an avid volunteer at Slidell Memorial Hospital. He attended Natchitoches High school where he excelled in debate, drama, acting and football. He had a part time job as a local disc jockey. Bill received a degree in biology from Northwestern University in 1953 where he was active in the Thespian Society and Beta Beta Beta. He graduated from LSU Medical School in 1957 where he completed a residency in Neurology and Psychiatry and subsequently completed a tour of duty in the Navy. He practiced psychiatry in Danville VA and held professorships at the University of Mississippi, the University of Kentucky and LSU Shreveport Health Sciences. He was co-author on early papers describing Tourette's Syndrome, stigmata, anorexia nervosa and Barber Chair Syndrome. He settled in Monroe in 1978, and retired there in 1999. He recently moved to Covington to be closer to his family. He is survived by his wife, June Laine Erwin his sons, Dr. William Alan Erwin and Dr. Kevin G. She would have been 55 on April 12. Joanne had a passion for science and her ability to make others understand it contributed greatly to her success as a teacher. She received Teacher of the Year twice and numerous awards throughout her career. She was beloved by the thousands of students that passed through her hands over the 20 years in the classroom. She had a bachelor's degree in biology education from the University of New Orleans but her passion from childhood was in geology and space sciences. Her love and interest for the NASA space program resulted in a long-standing relationship with Rocketdyne that allowed her to broaden the minds even further of those she taught. Her love for it and the humor she used in and out of the classroom were contagious and these things made her unforgettable. Her death leaves a black hole in the hearts of many and a vast empty space, difficult to fill, for any who knew her. She will be greatly missed. As the children grew up they migrated to the states of Washington and Arkansas. Margaret relocated to Seattle 10 years ago to be closer to her children. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Carolyn Cooper (Arthur); her sons, Manuel Washington (Audrienna), Calvin Washington, David Washington, the Rev. Jerome Washington (JoAnn), and Michael Washington (Sue); sisters, Josephine Lofton (Willie), Earnestine Buckley (Henry), Janette Cloud, Edna Sylvas, Bernice Sylvas and Ruth Perryman; brother Rufus Alexander Jr.; 22 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren plus a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She loved to travel, visited all 50 states and many European countries as well as Israel, Canada and Mexico. She was a stay-at- home mom while her boys were in school. He was the beloved husband of Diane Parker Reine for the past 43 years; father of Scott Ernest Reine and wife Renee Whitmarsh Reine; son of the late George E. Reine was a second-generation contractor having over 40 years of expertise in construction and land development, constructing more than 4,000 residential homes, local neighborhoods and commercial buildings and personally donating the entire grounds on which Clearwood Junior High was built. Through diligent work, Reine has had many achievements in the community. He was a former board member and past president of the Slidell Chamber of Commerce; past chairman of the United Way; past chairman of the Boy Scouts of America Fund Raising Campaign and past school board member of Pope John Paul High School. He served on two local bank boards and helped charter the St. Tammany Home Builders Association, which has over 1,000 members today. He was the first Senior Life National Director with the National Association of Homebuilders from the STHBA (which was awarded after 25 years of service), a past board member of the New Orleans Home Builders Association; member of the Sales and Marketing Council of the National Home Builders Association; past chairman of the STHBA Parade of Homes and member of the Land Development Council of the National Home Builders Association. Prior to marriage, Pat worked as a commercial artist in New York City for Life magazine. After marriage, she moved with Capt. Eugene L. Sullivan Jr. to New Orleans, but returned to New York and bore three children, Doreen, Kerry and Eugene III (Chip). She was active in the Albany Country Club, Junior League, bowling, and leading Girl Scouts. In 1970, Pat and her family moved to Covington and lived in Tchefuncta Country Club. While there, Pat enjoyed golf, bridge and made many friends. She was a three-time Ladies Golf Club Champion. She worked for many years at the Tchefuncta Golf Club and after hurricane Katrina moved to Virginia to be closer to her family. Born and raised in Lafayette Parish, Marguerite lived for many years in Slidell where she worked as a library assistant at Salmen High School. She and her husband were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Slidell. Survivors include her two children, James Mealus of San Diego and Eric Mealus of Houston; and two grandchildren, Paul Mealus of Fairview Heights, Ill., and Michelle Mealus of San Diego. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Mealus of Odgensburg, N.Y.; her parents Etienne and Melina Hebert of Lafayette and Vermilion parishes; and her brothers and sisters, Edgar, Clovis, Constance, Odelia and Eloi, all of Lafayette. Marguerite grew up in a typical Cajun household where Acadian French was the spoken language, food was well seasoned, and family and friends were always around. At the age of 15, Marguerite was the lone survivor of a horrific nighttime tornado that killed both her parents and a niece. She rarely talked about it and always made the best of each and every situation. She went on to become salutatorian of her Judice High School class and was the first from her family to go to college, attending Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She married Jack Mealus in Lafayette, where they raised two children. The family moved to Slidell in 1972. Marguerite temporarily relocated to Houston after Hurricane Katrina flooded her Slidell home. Her health deteriorated soon after the move, preventing her from returning to Slidell. She is missed by all. He was born in Mansura Oct. 9, 1946, the eldest child of Edar Belle of Denver, Colo., and John Colton Turner, who preceded him in death. He was later reared by his mother and stepfather, Chester L. Mallory of Westwego. After traveling the U.S. and throughout Europe as a military dependent, he attended Western Kentucky University, obtaining a bachelor of science degree in 1969. He enlisted with the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of captain. Upon his discharge, he went to work for Proctor and Gamble. While there, he devoted his time to assisting his co-workers with employee and personal issues. After 25 years of service, he retired as a department manager in human resources. In 2002, he earned a master's in business administration from the University of Phoenix. Dear Turner touched the lives of many people. He was a resident of the Slidell community for approximately 20 years. In 1991, he united with the Starlight Missionary Baptist Church, and was later ordained as a deacon. Following Hurricane Katrina, he coordinated the renovations of the Starlight Fellowship Hall and assisted other victims of the disaster. He was the deacon steward over several families, and deacon advisor for the Home Mission, Junior Mission and Deaconess Board. He was an active member of the Brotherhood. As a representative of Primerica, he blessed many lives by guiding them in financial planning. In addition, he was a small business consultant. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 31 years, Martha; three daughters, Littisha of Denver, Hillary and Michelle of Slidell, one son, Michael of Slidell; five grandchildren, Brandon, Samaya and Briya Turner of Denver and Josiah and Johan Spires of Slidell; two sisters, Johnne Carol Williams and Stacye Mallory Pratt (Lloyd) of Denver; two nephews, Seth Davis and John Williams of Denver; two nieces, Billy Dee Williams and Shanyn Davis of Denver; two uncles, Arnold Blackman and Marvin Blackman; three aunts, Hazel Tatmon, Pilgereen Hardy and Jeanette Blakely and a host of cousins, other relatives, nine grandchildren and friends. She was born February 23, 1939 in New Orleans to the late Kurt John and Leona Landry Falgoust and has been a resident of Folsom since 1997. The beloved wife of Donald O. Marshall, she is survived by two children, Michael G. Marshall and Melissa Marshall-Uhlig; her granddaughter, Sophie Anne Uhlig; one sister, Earline Bergeron and one brother, Earl Falgoust. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Vicknair and one brother, Earl Falgoust. A former graduate of Redemptorist, she attended Loyola College of Music where she began her vocal and dramatic arts training. She had to her credit an impressive number of major roles with the New Orleans Opera House who awarded her with a full scholarship to study opera and voice in Milan, Italy. She was a very active church soloist and performed on many recitals, conventions and local television shows. Later in life her talents extended into arts and crafts and she spent most of her time painting and volunteering at St. Michael's special education school in the ceramic department. She was an avid reader, loved genealogy, flowers and gardening, loyal soap opera fan and devoted to her family and friends and two cats. Howell, born in Delavan, Wisconsin in 1916, came to New Orleans in January of 1967 as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New Orleans Steamship Association. Prior to coming to New Orleans, Mr. Howell resided in Denver, Colorado for twenty years, where he was Vice President and Director of Labor Relations for the Mountain States Employers Council. For two years, after graduating from the University of Nebraska Law School in 1938, he practiced law in the state of Nebraska. He gave up the practice of law when he was appointed a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and served for over five years before joining the staff of Mountain States Employers Council. Mr. Howell was active in civic and governmental affairs and was listed in "Who's Who." He was previously a National Defense Executive Reservist of the United States; a director and member of the Executive Committee of the International Trade Mart, and a member of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. In 1973 Mr. Howell was elected Chairman of the Industrial Relations Group of the National Industrial Council. He was formerly a member of the Regional Labor- Management Defense Manpower Committee and Wages and also the Committee on Wages and Industrial Relations of the Business Research Advisory Council to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. He served as a guest lecturer on labor relations in the law schools of the University of Colorado and the University of Denver. In 1979 Mr. Howell received the C. Alvin Bertel Award for his outstanding contributions to the Port of New Orleans. He resided in Tchefuncta Estates for 34 years. He was a member of Tchefuncta Country Club, the Plimsoll Club and the University Club of Denver, Phi Delta Phi, and Beta Theta Pi. He had previously been a member of both the Pickwick and Boston clubs as well as Metairie Country Club. He is survived by his wife Louise Van Horn Howell; daughters Patricia L. Hundley, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Deborah L. Caldwell, of Mandeville, Louisiana. His daughter Constance Howell Morris, of Missoula, Montana, preceded him in death. Sons Stephen J. Clark of Slidell, passed away at his daughter's home Sunday, April 25, 2010, from complications of lung cancer. He was born on April 22, 1931, to Rosa Lee (Dillard) and Sandy Clark of Ozark, Ala. He served on the U.S.S. Hector in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, drove trucks, welded, worked construction and worked for Kaiser Aluminum from 1963-1986. He and his wife were married for 49 years and together raised three children, Fred Lamont Clark of Hammond, Judy Lynn (Clark) Rucker and Michael Ray Clark, who preceded his parents in death. They also raised their granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn (Clark) Swalwell, of Wichita Falls, Texas. He left his impact on five grandchildren, Michael Rucker, Melissa (Rucker) Monaghan, Shane Swanner, Chad Swanner; and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as his children's spouses and grandchildren's spouses, by marriage, Bo Rucker, Tina Marie (Wahl) Clark, Scott Swalwell, Caroline Swanner, Nicole Swanner and Shawn Monaghan. She was baptized at an early age at the Starlight Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an usher for more than 30 years. She was always hard working and worked as a housekeeper in many homes. She loved baking brownies and all sorts of cakes. She also loved fishing and serving the Lord. She was a very clean woman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Fontenot Jr.; her parents; two sons, Clarence and Ethaniel Fontenot; seven sisters, Ella Javery, Isabella Williams, Frances Hopson, Willie Cousizan, Johnny Mary and Margie Perryman; three brothers, Freddie, Simon and John Perryman; and sister-in-law, Emelda Johnson. Her husband and soul mate of nearly 70 years, Adam Jr., was with her along with their children, Adam Henry Graff III, his wife, Jacqueline; Gail Ann Graff Schmidt with her husband, George; and David Michael Graff. Also there to offer their support and love were her grandchildren Adam IV with wife Regina; Kristen Elizabeth Graff; Amanda Rosalie Schmidt with partner Kaylyn Ehler; and Allison Schmidt with husband Tommy Ardeneaux. She is additionally survived by grandsons Mitchel Paul and Daniel Michael Graff and great-granddaughters, Sarah Anne and Claire Madeline Graff. Rosalie was a truly unique and giving person who never met a stranger and lit up every room with her infectious smile and her bright eyes. She was dedicated to the Virgin Mary to whom she said the Rosary every night. She loved gardening and being surrounded by her flowers and her hummingbirds. She was the sunshine of her family's life. Her departure from this world is a devastating loss from which we will struggle to recover. Rosalie was active with the bingos held by the Slidell Knights of Columbus Council 2732. She was variously involved with the Bayou Liberty Community Organization, the Happy Hour Senior Citizen's Club, the Elks Lodge 2321 and the Lacombe Senior Citizens Club. Volunteering with these organizations, she and Adam visited senior citizen's homes, planted gardens for them, visited local nursing homes and played music for them and also dressed as clowns and marched in various parades. She enjoyed doing for those that couldn't do for themselves and was a very giving and generous person. This world is truly a sadder place without her. She was preceded in death by her parents Zepherin Joseph Loup and Mary Lena Reeves; brother and sisters Paul, Gloria Montalbano, and Margaret Oswald; half brothers Clarence and Andrew Loup and half sisters Bertha Stein and Stella Zerangue. He was the beloved husband of Brandi Stephens Spiers; father of Jacob and Brooke Spiers; son of Susan Couturie Spiers and Wayne Spiers; stepson of Golda Spiers; brother of Dayna Spiers Battaglia. He is also survived by his mother and father- in-law, Jeannie and James Burke; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and many close friends. He was a native and lifelong resident of Slidell.
